Izuku was a baker. It had been a habit he had picked up when he was younger, a way for him to do something other than use his quirk (and subsequently drive his mother crazy). He'd bake cookies, cupcakes, cakes, and random pastries depending on how he was feeling as well as who he would be giving the treat to. If it was for him then he would make snickerdoodle cookies, if it was for his mother he would make her regular butter cookies, if it was for Auntie Mitsuki he'd make her a mini chocolate chili cake, etc. After leaving the group chat, he immediately took out his allergy list for his classmates (one that he had told Aizawa-sensei he should have as the class rep, Yaomomo had gotten a copy as well) and looked for Iida's name. After making sure that Iida wasn't allergic to anything that Izuku planned on using, Izuku raided his specifically marked baking cabinet and got to work. Unable to decide on one cookie (and not knowing what Iida liked), Izuku made chocolate chip, butter, strawberry, and some lady fingers. He carefully packaged the cookies in separate containers, taking care to label what each cookie type was as well as the ingredients that he used. That particular habit was one that his mom had him do for her as she wasn't allergic to anything but she had her sensitivities.
Once he was finished packing the cookies into their containers he cast reducio and shrunk them, carefully stacking them into his bookbag for school. He nearly texted Iida but decided not to, instead opening up his messaging app and shooting a text to Yaomomo about them talking to Iida at some point to show their support.

Tuesday morning after the caffeine heist
Izuku knew he shouldn't have drank that coffee. High amounts of caffeine always made him jittery, a little anxious, and a little more eager to destroy stuff, but he made sure not to let it show as he walked over to Iida's desk. Iida was there early as usual, but later than his normal standards.
"Good morning, Iida!" He carefully reached into his bag and pulled out the cookies, setting them on the desk before waving his hand and casting Engorgio. "I apologize for bothering you, but I made you some cookies for you to share with your family. If you need anything, as your class rep just let me know. As your friend, I'm here for you with whatever you need." Izuku bowed his head and shot Iida another smile, not waiting for his friend to say anything before he bounced to his seat, making himself look like a model citizen as his other classmates began to slink in. Just before the bell rang, Aizawa stormed into the classroom, eyes glowing red before turning their normal black. Luckily for Izuku, he had already shrunk and shoved his thermos back into his bookbag. Served his teacher right for not telling Izuku about the speech.
His teacher's eyes zeroed in on Izuku immediately, a hint of red lurking in their depths but Aizawa couldn't prove anything beyond the fact that Izuku had been in the teacher's lounge, talking to Snipe-sensei. It wasn't a fake cover story either, Mei really was making Izuku a gun to store some of his spells in. He knew he would have to get a license to carry it so why not bug Snipe-sensei about it?
"Settle down." Aizawa-sensei flashed his eyes and Izuku immediately straightened up, eyes narrowing as he saw the smirk that appeared on his teacher's face. "So, internships. The people with the highest number of offers are on the board. Izuku choked on his spit at the number of offers Kacchan and Todoroki got, both of them charting in the thousands. Izuku himself got around 200 offers which was pretty good considering he didn't even place. "For those who didn't get any offers, you will still participate as we have agencies that accept students no matter what. Look through your packets carefully. In addition, we'll have a guest coming in today-" The door slammed open and Midnight stood in the doorway, a wide grin on her face.
"Hi, kiddos!"
"-And the guest is Midnight. Listen to her and don't disturb me." Aizawa slinked into a corner, producing his sleeping bag out of nowhere. Midnight walked into the classroom, smoothly taking her place behind the podium. She placed her elbows on the podium, leaned her face into her turned up palms, and leaned forward, mischievous eyes glittering.

They were working on hero names. Izuku didn't know what he wanted his to be, he had toyed with the idea of using Deku and immediately scrapped it. It meant something to him but he didn't know if he wanted to be known as that by people other than those closest to him. He stared at his white board, weighing his options. Tongue sticking out the corner of his mouth he carefully wrote out his choice, capping the marker and turning his attention to his classmates that were showing off their names. He personally thought Ashido's first name was pretty cool, but he could see how it could be taken as scary. Kacchan's hero name was downright laughable and Izuku poked him hard in the back when he sat down fuming.
"Kacchan, nothing with murder, killing, or explosion in the name. C'mon be serious." Kacchan twisted his body to a full 180, eyes smoldering.
"Oh yeah? Like you could name me any better!"
"Ground Zero or Dynamight, two off the top of my head." He stuck his tongue out at him and quickly hopped out of his seat, striding to the front to avoid the explosion to the face that he would have gotten. He slid behind the podium and flipped his whiteboard forward, a smile on his face.
"I'm going to be the Magic Hero: Mage" After gaining Midnight's approval he went back to his seat, smirking as Kacchan went back up and declared himself the God of Destruction: Dynamight.

Izuku was right, he had earned meetings with Inui-sensei for the rest of the semester. It was fine though, he enjoyed going to talk with the dog-man and he knew that Inui-sensei enjoyed his cookies. In his session he made sure to mention his worries about Iida as well as hinting that Hound Dog might want to talk to Todoroki too. Inui had nodded before directing Izuku to a chalkboard that sat behind the bean bags. Izuku sighed but accioed the chalk to his hand.
"What do I have to write, sensei?" When Izuku had come in for his session after dangling Mineta out the window, he had to write down what he was feeling when he did it, what made him feel like he had to dangle Mineta out the window, and then "I will not dangle people out of the window because it can make them feel_" 10 times, each with a different feeling.
"Gr..don't think I didn't hear about how you threatened to set Mineta on fire."
"Okay, totally understandable that you heard about it- but sensei he was exhibiting perverted behavior again!" Inui-sensei growled at him again and Izuku sighed but turned to the board, silently changing the white chalk color to purple and he began to write.

When I threatened to set Mineta on fire I was upset because Kacchan had been muzzled in front of thousands of people and I needed a way to work the anger off.
I wanted to set Mineta on fire because of the stunt he pulled with the cheerleading outfits, it made the girls uncomfortable.
I will not threaten to set people on fire because it can make them feel scared.

"You have internships coming up right, Izuku? Did you decide who you're going with?" Inko looked at him from her place in the kitchen where she was currently cooking dinner. Izuku sat on the couch, practicing turning a spoon into a teacup. The idea was that if he got used to transfiguring metal then he could transfigure weapons into something different.
"I think I'm going to go with Aizawa-sensei. He extended an offer when he found out I might want to go underground." His mom made a thoughtful noise behind him but he wasn;t paying attention, instead cheering when he successfully turned the spoon into a teacup. He'd have to borrow a knife from the kitchen to see if it was any different. He transformed the teacup back into a spoon. "Do you need help with dinner?"
"No. But you're thinking about going underground? Didn't you want to become #1?" Izuku shrugged, running a hand through his hair. He had this same conversation with Kacchan a few days ago.
"I just want to help people while also keeping myself safe. My quirk is actually pretty easy to figure out, if someone figured out what each light means or can even dodge my spells really quickly I would struggle. Underground it would be easier to strike because people wouldn't expect it. But that's also why I'm going with Aizawa-sensei, I can't be a one trick pony. Maybe I will become a limelight hero, maybe not. I don't know yet."
"I'm glad you're putting thought into it though." His mother gave him a warm smile. "On second thought, cut these potatoes, please. Without magic!" The look she gave him made him twitch.
"It was one time!"
"Your spell cut the counter and you panicked until you remembered you knew a repairing spell."

The week before internships started passed in a blur, and every day Izuku grew increasingly more concerned about Iida. There was a spark in his eye when he told Izuku he would be interning in Hosu, a spark that Izuku didn't like. Uraraka felt the same way, and so on the morning that internships started they both cornered Iida in the train station (Izuku had to come because he was going back with Aizawa-sensei anyway).
"Iida, please remember that you can rely on us as your friends." Uraraka started off, grabbing Iida's hands.
"I won't say that we understand what you're going through because that would be disrespectful, but know that we are here for you no matter what you need." For a minute, Iida's eyes softened and it looked like they had gotten through to him but in the next instant his face shuttered and hardened and he gently removed his hand from Uraraka's grasp.
"I appreciate your concerns, but I am fine. Enjoy your internships." He told them both stiffly before turning and heading to his train. Uraraka gave Izuku a helpless look before wishing him luck with his internships as well. He watched as she wandered off to her train and waved at the rest of his classmates that were leaving. Kacchan was already gone, his train that was taking him to Best Jeanist had left 5 minutes before everyone else's. Now it was just Izuku there with Aizawa-sensei.
"Come on problem child, we have one more person to pick up." Izuku tilted his head in confusion.
"Someone from 1-B?"
"You'll see."

The 'someone' was the purple haired kid from 1-C that beat Kaminari (Izuku knew because Kaminari wouldn't stop complaining in the group chat, swinging from being upset he was beaten to being impressed by how easily a non-hero student did it. From Kaminari's description of what happened, the purple haired boy's quirk sounded really similar to Imperio. He'd have to ask the boy about it).
"This is Shinsou. He won't be doing patrols with us because he is still a gen-ed student, but he'll be working with us in the afternoons."
"Hi Shinsou! I'm Midoriya Izuku." He stuck his hand out to shake but Shinsou just gave him a disgusted look and turned away. Izuku dropped his hand and turned to look at Aizawa-sensei, shrugging at the assessing look that he was given. "So, afternoons? No morning training?"
"Not for Shinsou. You have an additional opportunity if you choose to take it. Snipe offered to help you with your shooting in the mornings on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Mic also wants you to come in to the radio station on Thursday. You don't have to decide right now, see how you feel after tonight's patrol." Izuku visibly nodded, but he already knew he would be accepting those offers.
He had just gotten his spell gun from Mei the other day, it was really cool. Instead of being filled with bullets, Mei found a way for him to store spells. All he had to do was place his hand on the handle, activate the spell acceptance chamber and then cast the spell with his hand still on the handle and it would be absorbed. He decided to put capture spells in it (immobulus, incarcerous, stupefy). The gun he had was just a prototype and couldn't handle the destructive spells yet (Izuku had a new set of scars on his hand to prove it, he had to sit through a lecture from Majima-sensei (Power loader) and Recovery Girl on safety when handling prototypes). The gun also had the drawback of only being able to store 6 spells before it would overheat. Mei was toying with the idea of him embedding spells into bb pellets instead and seeing if that would work.
"Alright, we're here. Midoriya, leave your overnight bag in the car. Both of you, follow me." The two boys followed Aizawa-sensei to the training gym, Izuku trying to make conversation with Shinsou to no avail. He only stopped chattering when they got to the training gym and were sent off to change their clothes. Izuku changed into his P.E uniform and came back to the gym, drumming his fingers against his leg. Shinsou joined them a minute later, face blank. "Now that you're both here, you're going to spar each other so I can get your baselines. You'll go for 5 rounds, three without quirks and two with quirks." Aizawa waited for them to take their place on the sparring mat and then nodded for them to start.

Shinsou's quirk was like Imperio, it was really cool! Izuku won all 3 of the non quirked matches easily. Even though he tended to rely on his quirk (which tended to make him a long/mid ranged fighter) he knew how to fight in close range. In comparison, Izuku could tell that Shinsou didn't really train his body. By the time they got to the quirked matches, Shinsou's face was beaded with sweat and he looked really pissed off.
"You've been blessed with such a great quirk huh? Bet you haven't had to work a day in your life for it." Shinsou had started insulting Izuku immediately, a frown crossing Izuku's face. Izuku had worked really hard to be good with his quirk, and he was still learning to master it 10 years later. "What no response? Of course you haven't. You and those other hero students don't have to work hard for anything-'' Izuku's temper flared, it was one thing to talk about him, but talking about his classmates was crossing a line. How dare Shinsou sit there and act like he knew anything? He wasn't there to wrap Ashido's hands with aloe bandages after her hands were red and raw from using too much acid. He wasn't there to sit Kaminari down and put on some type of cartoon until he came out of whey mode. He wasn't there to slip Yaomomo and Satou little snacks throughout the day to make sure they got enough calories. He didn't see the anti-nausea pills that everyone carried for Uraraka or the noise canceling ear jack covers that they got support to make for Jirou. He didn't know just how hard Izukus' classmates worked and continued to work to improve their quirks.
"That's not true-" Immediately he lost control of his body, a calm floaty feeling overcoming him. It was peaceful, but it was wrong.
"All you hero students are the same. Walk off the mat." His magic didn't like it, he could feel it twisting as his body began to move involuntarily. But why would his magic be upset? He could feel something building, his magic roiling through his body but then his foot stepped off the mat, red flashed, and Izuku was free, the roiling magic disappeared and when it returned it was calm. He gasped for air like he couldn't breathe. He placed his hands on his knees, taking a minute to get himself together before popping back up like nothing happened.
"Shinsou, your quirk is so cool! How does it work? It must be response activated, you didn't activate it until I responded to your question. Does it have to be a full on response? Can you activate it even if someone says something that isn't responding to you? Very cool!" He automatically cut off his fanboying when Aizawa-sensei flashed his quirk at Izuku. "Sorry sensei." He walked on the mat again to start the next match, but this one would go to Izuku. Now that he knew how Shinsou's quirk worked, he cast a Silencio at him to prevent his voice from reaching Izuku. "Also Shinsou, don't speak on things you know nothing about. My classmates work hard every day to get better and improve. We are handed nothing." Shinsou charged at him when he realized his quirk wouldn't work and Izuku dodged the sloppy punch, casting Petrificus Totalus and freezing Shinsou in place and sending him falling to the floor like a log. Once he got Aizawa-sensei's nod, Izuku cast Finite to get rid of the spell. He held his hand out for Shinsou to grab, and after a brief look the boy grabbed his hand and Izuku pulled him to his feet. The look Shinsou gave him was equal parts bitter and contemplative. He opened his mouth to say something when Aizawa opened his mouth.
"Shinsou, Midoriya is right. Class 1-A has worked hard to improve their quirks and if you want to get into the hero course, you need to do the same. You rely too much on your quirk so we'll need to focus on getting you stronger. Midoriya, you're slow. You could have ended the matches with Shinsou several moves earlier than you did. You also get too reliant on your quirk. For the next two hours you'll both be fighting against me."

Izuku was so tired and sore that when he got to Aizawa's apartment he silently followed him to the bedroom where Izuku would be staying and fell asleep on top of the covers nearly instantly. He woke up an hour later and stumbled out of the room, trying to remember where the bathroom was.
"Whatcha looking for, little listener?" The voice that spoke was familiar and certainly wasn't Aizawa but Izuku was still half asleep.
"Where's the bathroom?"
"First door on the left." He mumbled a thanks and stumbled into the bathroom. It was only when he was splashing water on his face that he froze and then turned and ran out the bathroom, absently casting tergeo to get rid of the water still on his face.
"I knew it." He whispered to himself, staring at Mic-Sensei on the couch. "Hi Mic-sensei." He spoke up louder, waving at his English teacher. He looked different when not in his hero persona, his hair wasn't spiked up but instead it was down and pulled back into a ponytail. He didn't have his shades on either, instead wearing regular rectangle framed glasses.
"Hey kiddo. You can call me Yamada while you're here, I'm not your teacher right now." Izuku nodded and looked around, taking in the apartment. His silent assessment was stopped by a gray and white cat rubbing against his leg. He crouched down, sticking his hand out for the cat to sniff. Once the cat gave him permission he immediately began scratching the cat's head. "Ah, that's our cat Sushi. We have 3 other cats, Mikan, Yuki, and Miso. Mikan is orange, Yuki is white with a few black spots and Miso is a black cat. Be careful around Miso when you're eating miso soup, he will steal it." Izuku nodded, committing the other names to memory as he moved to scratch under Sushi's chin. He always wanted a cat but his mother was allergic.
"I would die for this cat." Yamada laughed at him and rubbed the back of his head.
"Please don't, that's a lot of paperwork for Shou."

When it came time to get up for Snipe-sensei's lesson on Monday morning, Izuku was exhausted. Patrol with Aizawa had started at 10pm and ended at 3am and they didn't get back to the apartment until 3:30. While patrol was fun (he had gotten to assist Aizawa in arresting a creep that was harassing someone), he didn't realize that it ran that late. Izuku was left with 4 hours of sleep because luckily Yamada had to drive in for school anyway (gen ed still had classes) and so Izuku got up at 7:30, took a quick shower and was ready in 15 minutes to leave with Yamada at 7:45.
"Little listener, if you want to eat I can make you some toast, we can leave a few minutes later?" Izuku shook his head, using accio to summon a kiwi flavored juice pouch. He wordlessly opened it and slurped it up, ignoring Yamada's whispered "Dear god he's going to turn into Shou." Jealous, Izuku shot a foul glare to the door that was still shut, the room holding his sleeping teacher. He definitely held a greater appreciation for his teacher and a sudden understanding of why the man was always so tired. It was rare for Yamada to still be here too but the man told him that he canceled his appearances besides Thursday's, something that he normally did during internship weeks. He himself didn't have any interns this year, which is why he was stealing Izuku on Thursday. The drive to UA was silent except for the radio and Yamada's humming, and Izuku took the time to doze until he was gently shaken awake and told that they had arrived. He waved by to Yamada and walked in the direction of Gym Gamma. Snipe-sensei had said to be in the gym at 8:30 and it was only 8:10, maybe he could snooze for a few minutes. His eyes zeroed in on the perfect corner to nap in.
And then he was shot in the back of the head and face planted on the ground.

Izuku had 30 new bruises and bumps and was sitting on the ground slurping up ramen when Aizawa and Shinsou showed up to Gym Gamma. Snipe-Sensei had spent the first hour of the lesson making Izuku memorize the 5 basic rules of gun safety and shot him with bb pellets each time he repeated a rule incorrectly. By the end of the hour Izuku had gotten them memorized, and then Snipe-sensei showed Izuku how to correctly dismantle and clean his gun before allowing Izuku to do it himself. Then after that Snipe-sensei had Izuku practice shooting a non-moving target for an hour. For the last hour of their 3 hour session they had a gun battle that Izuku was woefully unprepared for and he ended up getting hit with the pellets more than he would have liked, especially because Snipe-sensei said he couldn't use his quirk. Izuku personally thought that it was Snipe-senseis' version of revenge for cornering him in the staff room. The magic user hadn't handled his own gun at all today, but it was still fun learning how to use one.
The reason that Izuku was eating ramen at 2pm when his session with Snipe ended at 11:30 was that Izuku had silently gone and took a nap on his beanbag chair in Inui-sensei's office and had woken up 20 minutes ago. Luckily Lunch Rush liked Izuku and so he made him something to eat even though it wasn't the regular lunch period.
"Shinsou, start running the perimeter of the room. 10 laps. Midoriya, finish your food and join Shinsou. If you puke I'm adding another 5 laps." Izuku slurped up the rest of his ramen, banishing the bowl to who knows where. He tugged on the laces of his shoes to make sure they were tight enough and started running, easily catching up and then matching pace with Shinsou. The boy gave him a bland look and didn't bother speaking, and Izuku didn't either. Instead, they ran together in what felt like companionable silence.
After they finished their 10 laps they came to a stop in the middle of the floor where there were two bundles of white cloth. Aizawa gave them a cheshire grin and Izuku mentally prepared himself.
"Today you both will learn how to use capture weapons." Aizawa's grin only grew as they both put the scarves around their neck and tried to use them. Izuku would have to learn a detangling spell, because he got stuck in his capture weapon within 30 seconds.

The rest of the week went pretty much the same way as Monday did. The only difference was that on Tuesday Izuku got to sleep until noon and they didn't go on patrol Wednesday night. In his downtime on Wednesday though, Aizawa-sensei made him do paperwork under the guise of learning the ins and outs of the hero business. Joke was on him though, Izuku liked doing paperwork. It was the monotonous type of work that allowed Izuku's brain to wander and think about new things to learn or practice. It was also what gave him the idea to look for Aizawa's sleeping bag, cast the duplicating spell on it, and charm the new one green. He also added warming and cooling charms to it and then folded it up and tucked it into his backpack so now he had his own sleeping bag. He couldn't wait to pull it out in class on Monday.

"Hello listeners! Welcome to our early morning broadcast, I'm your host Present Mic! Today I'm joined by a special guest, a UA student! To protect his identity we'll refer to him as Green bean for the segment."
"Green bean?"
"It was that or Broccoli."
"Eh, Green bean is fine."
"Glad to hear it! So, we're going to do our regular segment of accepting caller questions until 7:30 and then we'll switch to our music portion for the morning! First caller please!"
"Hi Mic and Green bean! This is a question for Green Bean, what's it like being a UA student? And what's your favorite class?"
"Ah hi- I'm sorry, what's your name?"
"Oh forgive me, you can call me Koujou!"
"Hi Koujou! Being a UA student is pretty tough, it involves a lot of work and Saturday classes but I wouldn't have it any other way! I'm pretty sure my favorite class is Foundational Heroics. We learn a lot about what it means to be a hero and then we apply it in a practical way."
"Thanks for answering, Green Bean, bye!"
"Good job Green Bean! Oh, it looks like we have another caller. Hello, you're on the air!"
"GREEN BEAN, YOU DIDN'T SAY YOU WERE GOING TO BE ON THE RADIO!"
"Ah, Ashido it's good to hear from you-"
"KIRI IS ON THE LINE TOO! KIRI CALL KAMINARI-"
"Hi Kirishima!"
"Hey Green-Bean! Mina, Kaminari isn't answering-"
"Uh, Ashido do you have a question?"
"Oh, hi Sensei! Yes, question for Green bean. Do you routinely betray your friends by airing on the radio and not even shooting the group chat a text?"
"Only when said friends call and try to embarrass me on the radio."
"OOOH THIS GREEN BEAN IS SPICY! SORRY ASHIDO, CHAT HOUR IS OVER!"
"No it's not, it's only 7:15-"
"CUE THE MUSIC!"

"Midoriya, get ready, we're leaving a little earlier than usual tonight." Aizawa stuck his head in the doorway, raising an eyebrow as he saw the little wisp of light Izuku was cradling in his hands. "What is that?"
"An embodiment of my happiness that I am trying to make stronger so it can have a true form." It was a weird way to explain what Expecto Patronum was but Izuku didn't try to explain it further so Aizawa-sensei just shrugged. "Are we going somewhere different tonight?" He canceled the spell, resolving to try and find a happier memory to use. Maybe it wasn't focusing on a memory but the emotion of happiness itself?
"Yes, we're heading to Hosu. Now get ready, we leave in 20 minutes." Aizawa closed the door and Izuku immediately grabbed his phone, shooting a text message to Iida. All the other messages Izuku had sent had been read but not responded to, so he didn't really expect this one to be any different. He put down his phone and pulled on his hero costume, taking his spell gun out of its holster and leaving it on his bed. He wouldn't have permission to use it for another few weeks. Snipe-sensei wanted to look at it and have Izuku practice with it first. He left the holster empty and opened his pockets on his belt to make sure he had cotton balls and migraine medicine. He wished he had known that they were going to Hosu sooner, he would have stopped at the store to grab orange juice for Iida. On a whim he reached out and grabbed his capture scarf. He had charmed it to be a light mint color instead of gray. His reasoning was so that he didn't get it mixed up with Shinsou's (the boy refused to let Izuku make his capture weapon purple), but he was pretty sure Aizawa saw right through him. He still couldn't effectively use it but in a pinch Izuku was pretty sure he could just spell it to tangle people up. He clipped his cargo belt in place and left his room, crouching down to pet Miso.
"You two about to head out?" Yamada asked from the couch and Izuku nodded. "Alright then, I'll see you both in the morning." Yamada blew Aizawa (who had materialized behind Izuku and nearly made him pee himself) a kiss and Aizawa rolled his eyes.
"Let's go." They made their way to the train station and hopped on the train.
By the time they got to Hosu, it was already in flames.

"Mage, stay in this area. You have permission to use your quirk in order to help aid in evacuation. If for any reason you leave this area, let me know with your sparks. Green if you are safe and just had to move, red if you need help."
"Got it, Eraser."
xxxXXXxxx
For a while, Mage followed Eraser's instructions to the letter. He used levitation spell after levitation spell to lift people from the rubble. He cast ferula to splint broken arms and legs, and used episkey on minor wounds to stop the bleeding. He led people to the evacuation routes, joking with them along the way to calm them down. He picked up little kids as he walked alongside their parents, casting lumos with his free hand to entrance them. When Endeavor showed up, Izuku immediately moved from the area and sent green sparks into the sky to let his mentor know that he was moving.
And then he heard Manual shouting Iida's name and so now he was running from rooftop to rooftop, clumsily jumping but making it across nevertheless (Izuku was going to have to thank Aizawa-sensei for the parkour lessons, he would have never made it in time otherwise). He was about to jump to another roof when he heard a grunt, followed by a scream of pain coming from the alleyway below him. Mage didn't hesitate, jumping off the edge of the roof and allowing himself to plummet in freefall. He caught himself at the last minute with arresto momentum but the impact still jarred him and his shins immediately began aching but he ignored it. He took in the sight of a man standing over Iida and he cast stupefy immediately, the man dodging out of the way and flipping backward, over the top of Izuku's head. Mage moved, barely avoiding a silver blade. He moved his hand intending to make the blade into flowers but instead it morphed into a spoon.
"Who are you?" The man tossed the blade turned spoon away without a second thought. Izuku didn't respond, tossing red sparks into the air and simultaneously reaching into his back pocket and (hopefully) tapping the emergency button on his phone that would send his position to all of his contacts. Izuku didn't respond but Iida did for him.
"Midoriya, get out of here! This is my fight-"
"Iida, respectfully, shut the fuck up." Izuku stood in front of Iida, blocking him from the sight of the Hero Killer. "I'm here because you're my friend. I'm not going to let you end up on a t-shirt."
"So you came to save the false hero, did you? Will you save both of them?" Both of them? Izuku turned his head and swore when he saw Native pressed against the wall.
"Don't let him touch you kid. His quirk will paralyze you." Native croaked out and Izuku let out a low sigh of relief that the hero was still alive.
"Yes, I will save both of them." Stain stared at him and pulled a katana from behind him, one that was way bigger than the knife he had been about to slash Izuku with earlier. Izuku wouldn't be able to turn this one into a spoon.
"This is your last chance to run. If you get in my way then you'll be purged." Izuku breathed in deeply and when he breathed out, he was fully Mage.
"I couldn't call myself a hero if I ran, Stain." Fumos! Immediately fog swept through the alley and Izuku cast Mobilicorpus on Iida, moving him until he was next to Native. "Stay there!" A hastily put-up protego blocked the katana swing but not the roundhouse kick. The kick snapped his head to the side and Mage could feel the bruise forming on his jaw but he ignored it. Depulso! The spell slammed into Stain and pushed him back, Mage immediately casting Augamenti and Glacius at the ground. A frozen patch of ice formed and Mage cast Accio shoes! The spell hooked on to Stain's feet and pulled him onto the ice. It sent him falling but Stain caught himself easily, turning it into a flip. It became a battle with Izuku casting as many spells as possible, ignoring his mounting headache. As Stain got closer and closer, Izuku couldn't back up anymore without exposing Iida and Native. Fuck. He would have to do it.
"Imperio!" The spell connected and Izuku's vision immediately went white as blood began pouring from his nose.
Tuesday Afternoon
"Shinsou, can I ask a question?"
"You just did." They sat in a corner, stretching out their bodies before practicing with the capture weapons. Izuku stared at him pouting until Shinsou rolled his eyes. They had reached a tentative truce at some point so now Shinsou wasn't acting like Izuku was gum on the bottom of his shoe (the difference 3 days can make). "Ask your question."
"There's a part of my quirk that's kind of similar to yours. I wanted to ask if you could use your quirk on me again so that I can see how it feels and then if you would mind if I used that part of my quirk on you." Shinsou had stared at him for a moment.
"No." He got up, finished his stretches and walked over to his capture weapon.
"Ah, okay." Izuku was disappointed but shrugged and walked over to his own capture weapon. He had been practicing with it for 30 minutes (he was getting better at getting untangled) when Shinsou spoke up.
"Midoriya."
"Yes-" Immediately it felt like he was underwater. It was a strange sense of calm and Izuku would have been oblivious to it had his magic not immediately began bubbling in anger. His magic did not like being restrained. As quick as the feeling came over him, it disappeared and Shinsou was giving him a bland look.
"You can try yours on me during sparring."
"Okay, thank you!" They practiced in silence for another 30 minutes and when it came time for the quirked spars, Izuku told Aizawa what they were going to try. Izuku inhaled deeply and pointed his hand toward Shinsou. Imperio. He could feel the connection take hold for a moment and then break almost instantly, a migraine tearing through Izuku's head and blood pouring from his nose.
"Midoriya-" That was Aizawa's concerned voice but Izuku paid it no attention, sinking to the ground. He could hear Shinsou's 'What the fuck' in the background and then Aizawa was crouching next to him. "What the hell was that?"
"Qu'k ove'us. Din think it'd be that fas" He was hauled up by Aizawa's capture weapon and he tilted his head forward, trying not to get blood on his teacher's weapon. He reached up to pinch his nose, squeezing his eyes shut to keep the light from bothering him. He knew they ended up at Recovery Girl's because he felt a smooch on his cheek and then he was waking up and the sun was down. He had had to beg Aizawa to let him go on patrol. Aizawa had told him to only use that spell as a last resort until they had time to practice in a safe environment where Izuku could work his quirk and allow it to get used to casting it.
Imperio took more energy than Izuku expected, and he thought it was because he was essentially taking over the person's mind. Shinsou told him that the same thing happened to him when he controlled too many people at one time. He had promised Aizawa he wouldn't use it unless it was an emergency.
Present
This certainly counted as an emergency. He held Imperio for as long as he could, ignoring Iida's calls as he told him to stop. Izuku allowed the background to fade and he focused solely on the mental cord that held him to Stain. He didn't dare order him to do anything, afraid it would break the tentative control that Izuku held. He managed to hold him for all of 30 seconds before the cord snapped and Izuku stumbled back. Stain immediately lunged forward and- licked Izuku's face. What the fu- His body immediately seized and he hit the ground, unable to move.
"Good try little hero, but it was all for nothing." He raised his katana and Izuku would have died had ice not suddenly erupted in front of him, forming a barrier.
"Midoriya, you have to be more clear about these things. I nearly didn't make it in time."

One minute he was on the ground getting chewed out by Aizawa, with Stain bound in a mint green capture weapon, the next minute he was in the air with Nomu claws digging into his shoulder, a sinking feeling in his chest. Those red wings were familiar, too familiar.
"Hey Deku, are you coming to the arcade with us after school today?"
He shoved the thought away and ignored his still bleeding nose and pounding head. He didn't know where the Nomu was trying to take him and he'd be damned if he ended up somewhere with Shigaraki. He summoned up the last dregs of his energy. Sectumsem- His spell was abruptly cut off as the Nomu locked in place and Stain appeared on top of it, slamming his blade into its brain and sending them both tumbling to the ground. A gray cloth wound itself around Izuku's ankle and he found himself tugged back just in time to avoid a fireball landing where he had been a moment prior. Stain (who had been out cold) avoided the blow too. Izuku didn't hear anything that happened after that, fisting a hand in the back of Aizawa's costume.
"I know you're gonna expel me… but I have to pass out first." He slurred and his grip slackened as he lost consciousness.

When Izuku woke up in the hospital, the first thing he did was text a number that he had always had but never used.
MagicMight: Hey Tsubasa, how are you?
He didn't expect a response, and he never got one.

Contrary to his belief, Aizawa did not expel Izuku. Izuku was actually the only one not to get in trouble as he had permission to use his quirk (why Aizawa covered for him when he only told Izuku to use his quirk for evacuation, Izuku didn't know). Still though, the disappointed look that Aizawa gave him was more than enough.
"I have half a mind to send you back home and not let you finish your internship. But as there are only 2 days left, I'll let it slide. As for you two. Todoroki you had permission to use your quirk so you're just on thin ice. Iida, I'm telling Tensei and you are suspended from the rest of your internship. You also will be spending detention with me for the next two weeks and meeting with Hound Dog until he gives you the green light." Aizawa had stared at them all before going to get the papers to have Izuku discharged. After Aizawa and Izuku left the hospital and they were on the train heading back to Aizawa's house, Aizawa had eyed Izuku over the top of his capture scarf. "Next time loop the scarf underneath his armpits and hog tie the arms with a constrictor knot, those are harder to get out of." Izuku had nodded furiously, making sure to keep the budding smile off of his face.

Kacchan showed up at Izuku's house two hours after Yamada and Aizawa had dropped him off on Sunday. It took everything in Izuku's willpower not to laugh at the smoothed down hair, especially when his mom took one look at Katsuki and said:
"Oh my, Katsuki! Don't you look dashing," and proceeded to smooth down Katsuki's hair even more. Kacchan bore it silently, anger stewing in his eyes but he was never rude to Izuku's mom. He waited until she let him go to drag Izuku to his room, slamming the door shut behind them.
"Shut it, Deku. Fuck are you doing getting the attention of the Hero Killer?" Izuku raised an eyebrow, about to ask how Katsuki knew that only for a phone to get shoved in his face. Someone had recorded the final interaction between Stain and the Heroes before he had been arrested, and though the graphic quality was awful, Izuku could be seen being dragged back away from the Hero Killer by Aizawa's capture scarf.
"Sorry Kacchan, I can't talk about it. Gag order." He didn't say a word but he didn't say a word but he knew Katsuki got the memo as the next moment he was being punched in the arm.
"You damn fucker, getting to have all the fun while I was stuck with that fucking Ken Doll."
"How long is your hair going to stay like that?" Izuku poked it and dodged the predicted explosion to the face, circling around Katsuki.
"Fuck you! But seriously, what the fuck happened your face looked like it was painted with blood, a fucking murder scene." Izuku sighed and threaded his fingers together, putting his hands behind his head.
"I cast Imperio on Stain and immediately got the migraine of a century and a nosebleed. And then I proceeded to use a Bombarda Maxima after that to help knock Stain out. Also…I think Tsubasa isn't Tsubasa anymore." He told Katsuki about the nomu with the red wings that had grabbed him.
"Deku, what the fuck."

"Bro, that is so scary. Where the hell did he get that sleeping bag from?" When class started Monday morning, no one was expecting to see Midoriya laying on the ground next to Aizawa-sensei, curled up in a green sleeping bag. Both of them were half slumped against the wall with their eyes shut, Midoriya's hair even falling into his eyes the same way Aizawa sensei's did. Kirishima winced as Mina sneakily tried to take a picture with her phone only for it to fly out of her hand and into Midoriya's- where did the sleeping bag go- and for Aizawa to activate his quirk. Kirishima blinked and Midoriya was suddenly sitting in his seat with his books pulled out and Kirishima could only stare dumbly as Midoriya gave him a tiny wink.

The weeks after internships flew by and Izuku slowly found himself settling into a new routine. On Mondays and Wednesdays he now hung out with Shinsou after school, both of them practicing with their capture weapons. Aizawa-sensei was at these sessions more often than not, but Izuku (and Shinsou) had become proficient with de-tangling themselves from the scarves. On Wednesdays Shinsou would let Izuku use Imperio on him and he slowly began building up a tolerance for the spell. Now instead of a gush of blood from his nose he would only experience a trinkle and his migraines had been reduced to annoying headaches. The exhaustion was still there but Izuku could use Imperio for up to 5 minutes now before it became too much to hold. In exchange, Izuku helped Shinsou figure out different ways to catch people with his quirk instead of the usual insults. On Tuesdays Izuku would have his meetings with Hound Dog and practice casting Expecto Patronum (it only made sense to try to use a happy spell in counseling, Inui-sensei was pretty good with just sitting there and watching Izuku practice. It made him less likely to try human transfiguration on Mineta who was slowly but surely improving after Izuku hit him with a Bat Boogey Hex). Thursdays were for practicing with Snipe-Sensei, Izuku had gotten his license to use his quirk gun last week (the first foundational heroics class after that was awesome, Izuku had hit Satou right between the eyes with a sleeping spell. He made sure to only load his gun with less harmful spells when he was going to use it for class). Fridays were for sparring with Kacchan, Saturdays were for parkour using Ground Gamma, and Sundays were his free days.
Today was Tuesday and he was walking in the hallway, heading to his session with Hound Dog when he accidentally bumped into a tall skeletal man who had on the same suit that All Might had been seen wearing earlier in a citizen sighting. Izuku's mouth opened before he could think about it.
"Are you an All Might fan?" The skeletal man coughed and Izuku was immediately alarmed to see that there was blood on the man's hand. He immediately conjured a handkerchief and handed it to the blonde man. "I'm so sorry that was so rude of me, are you all right?"
"I'm alright, Young Midoriya." The man wiped his mouth with the handkerchief, blue eyes looking confused as Izuku stared at him. "Uh-"
"How do you know my name?" Izuku stared at him with suspicion, slowly rotating his hand so he could cast a spell when the man waved his hands frantically.
"My apologies! I didn't introduce myself, I'm Yagi Toshinori, All Might's secretary- yeah I'm All Might's secretary!" Izuku stared at him closely, tapping his fingers against his chin. There was something so familiar about that man…
"It must be rough." Izuku commiserated. "All Might-sensei is a lot to deal with, he's my favorite hero but he seems like a lot to manage." He reached in his pocket and enlarged the package of chocolate chip cookies he brought for Yamada as an apology for accidentally setting something on fire in English class. He had been experimenting with Mina and her acid again. Reaching in he took out a single cookie and passed it to Yagi. "Here, it's not much but yeah. Nice meeting you Yagi, you should get that cough checked out!" He made the package of cookies smaller again and took off, this time in the direction of the staff room instead of Hound Dog's office, not knowing that Yagi was staring at his retreating back with a thoughtful look of wonder.

Izuku successfully cast Expecto Patronum for the first time during Foundational Heroics. They were playing a twisted version of Capture the Flag (of course Hero v Villain style) using office buildings as their bases. Izuku had just finished grabbing the Hero team flag when someone shut the lights off to the room he was in and Tokoyami stepped out of the shadows. If anyone asked, Izuku wouldn't be able to tell them why he didn't just cast Lumos Maxima (though no one besides Kacchan knew all of his spells, Tsuyu and Mineta only knew the ones that he had verbally cast at the USJ). Call it a hunch but he drew upon his brightest emotions and feelings and cast the spell. Expecto Patronum! The wisp of light grew and grew until a fox formed with 5 tails swinging from the back of it. A Kitsune. It was fitting, his patronus would be represented by something that was said to have magical powers, just like he did.
"Sorry, Dark Shadow." He directed his patronus forward, the kitsune (he would have to name it) stalking forward and sending Dark Shadow rearing back. While Tokoyami and Dark Shadow were distracted by the spell, Izuku pulled his spell gun from his holster and shot Tokoyami with 'Petrificus Totalus', the first spell loaded into the weapon. Izuku crouched down and called his patronus back to him, gently running his hand over the fox's head. He wasn't quite touching it, but he could feel the coolness radiating from his spell. "Go to Jirou, tell her the Magician is about to perform his trick." The fox turned on its paw and disappeared and Izuku shrunk the hero flag, tucking it into one of his pockets. He cast a glamor spell on the wall to make it seem like the flag was still there and then he cast the disillusion charm on himself, taking care to be silent as he crept through the halls.
Now that the moment of aw had passed, he took notice that there was blood trickling down his nose but he didn't have the headache that normally came with his nosebleeds. He wiped the blood away and focused on his task, waiting on his signal from Jirou. After a minute he was about to try and reach Jirou using their coms but his patronus returned, appearing in front of him.
"Midoriya," Jirou's voice echoed from the creature, "This thing just stared at me until I started talking, Ashido is coming to your 3 o'clock and she has the flag, engage." After delivering Jirou's message, Izuku's patronus dissolved and he stared at the place where it had been before. None of the books mentioned other people being able to relay messages through the patroni. It was something to think about but Izuku shelved that thought for another time and pulled his gun out of his holster again. It was go time.

"Ah, Midoriya it's good to see you!" Izuku looked up from where he had been writing in his notebook while walking down the hallway, a smile crossing his face as he shoved the notebook into his bottomless backpack. Yagi-san was waving at him from across the hall.
"Hi Yagi-san, just the person I was looking for!" Izuku summoned the container from his bag, crossing the hallway and shoving it into Yagi's hands. The container was full of different pastries. "I asked Yamada-sensei if you had any allergies and he gave me a list of your restrictions, so all of this stuff is sugar free and you should be able to eat it." Yagi stared at Izuku, holding the container loosely. He looked confused and Izuku tilted his head. "Should I have made something else?"
"No, no! Thank you Midoriya, I appreciate it. May I ask why you made them?" Izuku shrugged, absentmindedly taking a hair tie out of his pocket and tying a portion of his hair up into a ponytail. The front and back of his hair still hung down and he knew if he looked in the mirror he would resemble his mother.
"Baking is a fun coping mechanism and so I bake a lot. Me and my mom can't eat all of it though, so I bake for people at school. You're on the rotation this week!"
"Rotation?"
"Mhm! I have a rotation list for the teachers since I only do two a week. I did Yamada-sensei twice though because I refuse to bake for Aizawa-sensei when he tries to kill me throughout the week." He would have continued on but his phone pinged and Kacchan's name popped up on the screen. "Sorry Yagi-san, have to go! See you soon!" Izuku waved at the man and turned around, running towards the doors of the school. Yagi stared after him, silently wondering if he should have waited and made Midoriya the 9th holder of OFA.

"Midoriya, seriously thank you for tutoring me. I have to pass this final exam, I really want to go to the training camp!" Kaminari spoke up from the floor of Izuku's living room, workbooks spread around him.
"It's nothing Kaminari, Uraraka, Iida, Tsuyu, Todoroki, Hagakure and I were going to study anyway. Besides, I know you get nothing done when you're around Kirishima and Ashido, that's why I stole you from Kacchan." Izuku smiled from his place by the oven, grabbing the last batch of fresh cookies and setting them on the counter. He allowed his eyes to skim over his friends. Hagakure was explaining the math homework to Uraraka, slowly going through the steps of the example. Uraraka was amazing at math until letters started being added into it, then she was confused until it was broken down in terms of construction workload (something that Hagakure knew because her brother worked in construction). Iida was lecturing Todoroki on English homework. Every now and then Todoroki interjected to tell Iida that he was explaining something wrong and Iida would turn red which made Izuku giggle. Izuku himself was helping Kaminari with history and in turn Kaminari was helping Izuku with his oral English.
"You're totally right about that, lol."
"Kaminari, kindly refrain from using text message lingo in real life conversations!" Iida cut in from across the room. Kaminari rolled his eyes and a mischievous grin spread across his face.
"Come on Iida, seriously? Stay in your lane bro, you dtm."
"Yeah Iida, take a chill pill fr!" Uraraka chimed in, giggling to herself.
"What is F-R? And D-T-M?" Todoroki tilted his head in obvious confusion. The look of confusion only got deeper as all of them (even Iida) started laughing. Izuku allowed the laughter to go on for another minute before sending stinging hexes at everyone. Choruses of indignant sounds rang in the air and Izuku put his hands on his hips.
"Study or no cookies." Immediately everyone returned to their work and Izuku wandered over to Kaminari, sitting down cross-legged on the floor. "The Quirked Rebellion took place in May of 2XXX not August, August of 2XXX was the Quirked Revolution." Kaminari scribbled the answer out and let out a sigh, snapping his history workbook shut.
"We're switching to English." Izuku shrugged and pulled out his workbook, listening intently as Kaminari spoke. "What word means unwilling or unable to believe something"

The written portion of the Final Exam was easy and Izuku was confident that he had passed all of the portions (even English, his weakest subject). It was the practical portion that was the issue. It wasn't robots like the upperclassmen had told them, they would instead be facing the teachers. The teachers would have weights on them, but it would be a problem, especially with who Izuku was going up against. Aizawa definitely knew that it was Izuku who had switched his coffee with decaf after the Sports Festival and was using the final to exact his revenge. He had to be, that would be the only reason why Izuku was placed against All Fucking Might. Sure, Izuku had it better than Kacchan and Todoroki who were placed together against Aizawa (and wouldn't that be a nightmare, Kacchan was terrible with working with other people who weren't Izuku), and definitely better than Kaminari and Ashido who were placed against Principle Nezu, but this was going to be hard. Yaomomo definitely agreed with him.
"We definitely can't beat him in a strength contest, we have to outwit him and get to the exit." Yaomomo had the right idea, but there was no way All Might was just going to let them escape.
"What's the fastes-'' Izuku's words were cut off as the sound of breaking glasses echoed through the street right before the shockwave hit him and sent both him and Yaomomo flying backward. Yaomomo grabbed his arm, hauling him to his feet.
"Holy shit." He couldn't even take the time to act shocked at Yaomomo cursing because he was frozen in place- with fear? All Might's piercing blue eyes stared them down as he stood tall, chin tilted upward(for some odd reason, reminding Izuku of Yagi-san).
"Who gives a damn about the city?" Next to Izuku's side, Yaomomo was equally frozen. The aura emanating from All Might was oppressive as the Number 1 Hero played his role as a villain. "Come and stop me, heroes." All Might heaved his arm back again and Izuku pushed through the fear, tackling Yaomomo and casting protego over both of them as the wind from All Might's punch rippled overhead.
"I'm cursing Aizawa's sleeping bag! Yaomomo, what's the plan?" He cast Fumos, sending smoke mixing in with the dust produced by the dirt rising into the air, pulling Yaomomo to her feet. She took his arm and started running, and he followed her to the cover of a building. They slid down multiple alleyways, coming to a stop in a random one.
"We cannot beat him with strength. I'm not sure why we were paired with him, but we have to out maneuver him. As long as one of us makes it to the exit we'll pass. I think you should go for it Midoriya, you're more capab-"
"I'm not going without you," He cut her off, offering her a smile. "It'll take both of us to get away from him, he's really into his role." He drummed his fingers against his thigh, running through different plans in his head before settling on one. "Say, Yaomomo. Do you know how to shoot a gun?" Yaomomo smiled and the skin on her stomach began to shimmer and bubble. When it was fully formed, Izuku stared at the sniper rifle that Yaomomo had just produced.
"My parents required that I know how to use any weapon that I know how to create." Izuku nodded and grinned at Yaomomo.
"Let's pass this exam."

No one but Yaomomo would ever be able to say that they shot All Might in the head with a purple paintball. And no one but Izuku would be able to say that they cast a point-blank exploding spell at All Might and then escaped by leaping onto the back of an electric scooter that had rockets for engines.
Needless to say, both of them passed the exam. Izuku couldn't have done it without Yaomomo and was grateful that Aizawa had at least made her his partner. He and his vice president made a damn good team.
