When Esther goes for a walk with her dog Max, she witnesses the crash of a small plane. At least that's what she believes, until she approaches the crash site and discovers that the plane isn't one and the injured pilot is still alive. As the only other person on the scene, she is unable to reconcile not helping him. That decision has far-reaching consequences...

While on shore leave Chakotay experiences an unpleasant bug bite. This leads to an embarrassing and awkward misunderstanding in Sickbay and then an important conversation.
