The tears wouldn't stop.
Why couldn't he make them stop?
He was a viltrumite, one of the most powerful beings in the universe! He survived the culling of his planet!
Yet, one simple sentence from his son, broke him.
Because deep down, everything Mark had said had been true.
Sure, when he had first arrived on Earth, he was wholly dedicated to his planet's cause.
But then he got used to being a hero, a family man. All thanks to…
To Debbie.
"Oh god… what have I done?"
Nolan's hands found his face as he tried to wipe his eyes, the true gravity of his actions sinking in on him.
He had tried to fulfill his purpose, even after he had found a life he truly enjoyed. Even after he was happy.
All because of a duty to a planet that forced him to fight for his life.
He had given up Debbie, Mark… killed his friends… scared those who once admired him, and killed many more…
He couldn't deny it. He was a monster. He truly was a monster.
Nolan grit his teeth as his hands came up to his face, sobbing.
Holly, Alana, Aquarius, Martian Man, Immortal… Oh god… Josef… he could never get the image of what he did to Josef out of his head.
And then the one that truly haunted him.
Mark. Beaten, bloody, broken, crying…
Because Nolan himself had beaten him to near death.
For a planet that has hurt enough civilizations…
"Nolan Grayson."
The voice pulled him out of his thoughts. He pulled his teary face from his hands.
He had never heard that voice before. It sounded so calm, but it had an echo to it that was told him that it wasn't normal.
The fact that it knew his name, even in deep space, definitely didn't help.
"W-Who's there?"
He turned around, and spotted a form, one with which he had encountered once before.
It looked as if it were a ghost, it's skin a piercing sky blue, covered in a purple cloak, with watches on sashes wrapped around his chest. In it's hand, a staff with a clock on it.
He knew exactly who he was looking at.
"You recognize from our encounter before… after your genocide of the Flaxan homeworld."
Nolan had encountered this being on his way home from the Flaxan homeworld. It had warned him that if he had kept on his current path, he would find only misery.
"Clockwork…"
The newly named Clockwork smiled, as his form seemed to blur and shift to that of a small child, though the voice remained it's deep normal tone.
"I did try to warn you."
Nolan's fist clenched. "Are you here to rub salt on the wound?"
Clockwork smiled as his form shifted to that of an old man.
"No. Instead, I'm here to offer you a chance to redeem yourself."
Nolan looked at Clockwork, sniffling. "How do you plan to do that?"
Clockwork smiled, and then waved his staff. Nolan felt the familiar sensation of teleportation, and looked around, realizing that he was not in space any more.
"Where-?"
"My domain. Where I can keep watch of all timelines. Every timeline, of every universe, in every multiverse."
Nolan glanced around, looking through some of the portals. A few things caught his eye.
A man dressed in red and blue, looking similar to him.
A giant red and blue robot, who seemed to shift it's form into that of a semi truck.
A young child, being hauled off as some humanlike giant abomination consumed someone.
A young brunette in a blue tube top, running from some abomination wielding a rocket launcher.
A puppet, with red swirls on it's cheeks.
A a red toned man with a sharp smile, who's hair seemed to resemble fox ears, walking with an old 1930's microphone.
A bald man, driving a Dodge Charger.
A group of ragged people, running from what looked like corpses.
A red demon with stubs for horns, and an oversized right hand.
Nolan gazed around, confused. "Why did you bring me here, Clockwork?"
Clockwork gestured to a portal in front of him. "Come. Watch."
Slowly, hesitant, Nolan approached.
"Superheroes exist in many timelines. Sometimes for different reasons, sometimes for the same reasons. Sometimes they are different from what you would expect."
Nolan listened silently as he came to stand by Clockwork. He gazed into the portal, and was somewhat startled by what he saw.
A group of Superheroes stood together. The most prominent of them being the man dressed in an outfit reminiscent of the American flag, with blond hair, a boy scout grin on his face.
"These heroes are the Seven. Homelander, Queen Maeve, Black Noir, A-Train, The Deep, Translucent, and Starlight. They were created by the company known as Vought America."
Nolan raised an eyebrow, his tears having mostly dried up by now. "What, like an accident?"
Clockwork shook his head. "No. In this Universe, superheroes and supervillains are made through the use of a serum called Compound V, which is injected into them as babies."
Nolan's eyes widened in surprise. Babies?
"You mean to tell me that Vought injects children with this… Compound V… with the intention of creating superpowers?"
Clockwork nodded. "Unfortunately, most superheroes in this Universe are treated as celebrities, making money from movies, media, merchandise, and everything is almost always managed by Vought."
Nolan did not like where this was going already.
"Most superheroes in this world are actually the worst scum imaginable, with Vought able to sweep their crimes under the rug with bribes, blackmail, and threats."
"Leaving these thugs to run rampant, innocent people pay the price."
Clockwork nodded. "You're catching on. Nobody can really oppose these so-called supes, and with Vought backing them, very few even care to, ignorant to their crimes and more than happy to give them attention." Clockwork turned to Nolan. "There is already a small group of people opposing them, and not all supers are scum. Some, like Starlight, actually do want to do good. But I had a theory, that we could inject a real hero into the equation."
"Me." Nolan guessed, "You want me to try and bring down Vought, and bring these scumbags to justice."
Clockwork smiled. "Exactly."
Nolan shook his head, looking at Clockwork. "But why me? You've seen what I did to my Earth. Hell, you probably already knew about it years before I could even imagine doing it. Why would I be a good choice?"
"You're right. There are better choices." Clockwork admitted. "But you are not the evil being you believe you are, and there was a time, brief it was in your life, that you truly upheld and represented the beliefs of Truth and Justice, as Omni-Man."
Clockwork floated close to Nolan, and his staff gestured to his chest.
"Though your home may now fear this symbol, it can be the icon for hope it once was in this new Universe, where people are ignorant to the true horror of Vought Superheroes."
Nolan looked down at his chest, deep in thought, and raised his hands, looking at his palms.
How many people had he hurt? Had he killed? How much blood stained his hands already, even before he came to Earth?
Earth was his respite, his happiness.
It… it would feel nice, to do good again… with no one fearing him.
Clenching his hands with resolve, Nolan looked up at Clockwork.
"I'll do it." Omni-Man declared.
Clockwork smiled, and touched his staff to Omni-Man's chest.
Omni-Man felt a wave of energy pass through him, and he looked at Clockwork.
"You will be able to stay in this alternate universe with no repercussions. Some forewarning, you will be the most powerful being in this Universe. Nothing will be able to stand up to your might. I shall check in on you every so often, to see how you fare in this new Universe. When you are ready, step through the portal."
Nodding, Nolan stepped forth, staring into the portal with determination. Turning to Clockwork, he offered his hand. "Thank you, Clockwork."
Clockwork smiled. "Safe travels, Omni-Man."
And with one final breath, Omni-Man stepped through the portal.
Nolan felt weightless. A familiar sensation, whenever he was flying. However, the darkness in his site was a little more unusual.
Then he opened his eyes as his senses returned.
He stood on his feet, out in an open area of grass. He was on Earth again. Another Earth.
Looking into the sky, Nolan blasted off with the familiar sonic boom of his take off, flying at high speeds towards the nearest city he could find.
He reached Manhattan in a matter of seconds.
He slowed his speed, coasting through the air comfortably as he used his enhanced site to gaze at the city.
All throughout the city, merchandise and advertisements were all over the place, dedicated to the so-called heroes of this world.
Nolan rolled his eyes. 'Pathetic. These heroes with all their power, and they use them to get rich.'
Already, Nolan could tell that his time here was going to be long.
But it would be worth it.
As he flew over the city, his enhanced hearing picked up something.
The sound of a vehicle, and heavy one at that, speeding through the city, hitting almost anything in it's path.
Nolan grinned.
Time for Omni-Man's debut.
Cody could safely say that today was not going how he was expecting. On his way to school with Ray, they were having their typical superhero discussion, which devolved into a debate about how Translucent would kick the Deep's ass.
The last thing he expected to encounter was a rampaging armored truck.
He was frozen, unable to move, terror gripping both him and Ray as they watched the truck approach quickly.
Then a red blur slammed down in front of them.
And then there was a man with white and black hair in a red cape, sliding along the ground as he pushed against the truck, the front of said truck now dented as the man's feet dug into the pavement.
The truck came to a stop a fair distance away from them, and the man stood up and turned around, looking directly at Cody and Ray.
"You boys alright?"
His voice was deep, but it held a calming tone to it as he asked them, a light smile on his face. He wore red gloves and red boots to match his cape, and his outfit was mostly white, with some red stripes converging in his chest, making a symbol that vaguely resembled the letter 'O'. His face was nicely complimented by a mustache.
Stuttering, Cody quickly answered. "Y-yes sir!"
The man smiled. "Good to hear." He turned around and walked towards the driver side of the truck, ripping the door off its hinges as he looked at the masked men inside.
One of the culprits looked at the newcomer in disbelief. "Who the fuck are you? Some new hero?"
The man smiled. "Yes I am. Now, I'm going to have to ask you to relinquish your weapons, and step out of the van."
The driver glared at the newcomer, and instead of complying, pulled out his weapon, aiming it straight at the hero's face. "Or I could just shoot you."
The newcomer rolled his eyes. "Please." In the next instant, the man disappeared in a blur, and the thugs only heard what sounded like a shotgun going off, before they were looking bewildered at the site in front of the truck, where the new hero stood, every single one of their weapons sitting in twisted and mangled piles behind him.
"Well, I see that my presence wasn't needed." A new voice interjected. All eyes turned to the source, spotting the renowned heroine, Queen Maeve, approaching the new hero, eyeing the truck as if she were impressed.
The newcomer smiled, and held his hand out towards Queen Maeve. "Nice to make your acquaintance, Queen Maeve."
Maeve returned the gesture, shaking the newcomer's hand as she turned to look at him. "Pleasure's mine. Nice work of the truck. Looks a bit better than it would've if I had stopped it."
The newcomer smiled. "Well, I'm just trying to make sure nobody gets killed. Speaking of…" The newcomer's gaze turned back towards the truck, stern this time. "Out of the truck, boys. I won't ask again."
Knowing they were beaten, especially with Queen Maeve here and no working weapons, the men silently complied, exiting the truck with their hands in the air.
The newcomer nodded, before looking at Maeve. "Give me just a moment, miss." Maeve watched in surprise as the man disappeared in an instant, a red blur passing around all of the men, before they were sitting, maskless, with rope restraining their hands behind their backs. "There we go." The newcomer said as he reappeared.
"Well, that was quite the display." A familiar voice to all interjected. Everyone looked up to see Homelander, slowly landing on the ground, a smile on his face. "And who do I have the pleasure of seeing in action?"
The newcomer smiled as he reached out his hand. "Just a man trying to help. Though, you can call me Omni-Man."
Homelander smiled as he took the man's hand. "It's nice to meet you, Omni-Man. As you can tell, I'm the Homelander."
Omni-Man nodded. "Pleasure to meet you." He turned his attention away from the Star-Spangled hero and looked back to the two boys from earlier. "You two sure your alright?"
They both nodded vigorously. "We are, Omni-Man sir!" Ray said, a smile on his face.
Cody fished his phone out of his coat as he approached. "Is it alright if we get a picture?"
Both Homelander and Maeve nodded, more than happy to give a picture, though Omni-Man politely declined. "I'm afraid I can't, boys."
Both of them looked disappointed, and Homelander looked at Omni-Man with a raised eyebrow. "Why can't they take a picture with you?"
Omni-Man began levitating as he looked at Homelander, smiling. "I'm afraid there's more to do than just this, my friend." He looked at the two boys. "At the moment, I hear a bank alarm going off a few states over, so I'm going to leave you in the very capable hands of Homelander and Queen Maeve." With a nod, he glanced at Maeve. "Ma'am." He then turned to Homelander. "Sir."
With those words, he blasted off, a sonic boom echoing through the sky as he flew at supersonic speed.
Homelander and Maeve looked at each other, confused, and then Homelander shrugged, before looking at the two boys with a kind smile.
"So, who wants a picture?"
Two seconds was all it took to see the deception, the lies. The deceit.
Though he would most likely deny it, Nolan could see the signs of frustration on Homelander's face at the fact that he wasn't there to stop the armored truck, having his thunder stolen by some newcomer.
Homelander was angry about Omni-Man's existence.
'Good. Let's keep it that way. Now to get to that bank.'
Over the course of the next few hours, Nolan patrolled the country, checking to make sure everything was okay.
It was hard for him to believe how quickly he was falling back into his old habits after the events that had occurred the past few weeks.
It almost felt like that first time he debuted back home. Though this time, the heroes seemed to hate his presence immediately, and he was almost positive that he wasn't going to fall for either of those two boys like he had Debbie.
Debbie…
'She heard every word I said thanks to Cecil… god, why did I say that? I'm so sorry Debbie… you're so much more than a pet.'
With a sigh, Omni-Man landed in an alley, walking out of it as he gazed at his new attire.
A white T-Shirt, some blue jeans, and a pair of sneakers.
He had admittedly stolen them during his patrol, having hidden them on Mars. When he decided that it was time to begin a civilian life, as he had back home, he had immediately taken a pair of clothes and hidden them. Now, he left his hero uniform back on Mars, as he stood in his new civilian clothes, walking along the sidewalk.
'First things first, I need a job.' Clockwork sent him here with nothing but the clothes on his back, hence why he stole some instead of buying some, and he didn't get the chance to properly prepare for this little excursion. He would need a job before he could get anything else.
He could take up writing again. Back home, Nolan Grayson was a very successful author.
But whenever he tried to think of something, all he could think of was the horror he had caused.
He needed a job to distract him.
He glanced around as he walked, thoughtful about how to do this.
'Let's see… handy man? No. Fast food? No, I've seen what Mark dealt with, No thanks.'
Then one caught his attention.
'Security Guard needed! Required to work a flexible shift. Pay: 16$ an hour. Open to discussion.'
Nolan nodded as he looked at the ad. It was for a movie theater, a few blocks down the road if he was correct.
'Well, I get to help still… let's try it.'
As He began walking, he stopped as he noticed a crowd gathered in front of a tv store display. Curious, he approached, and smiled when he saw what they were looking at.
It had only been a few hours, but the news was going nuts with his debut.
"Having debuted in New York only hours earlier, this new superhero, going by the name, Omni-Man, is making waves, stopping crime after crime over the course of only a few short hours. From bank heists, to simply robberies and even muggings, Omni-Man is quickly gaining ground as the world wonders: Who is this new Superhero?"
Nolan chuckled as he listened to some of the opinions of the crowd.
"A new superhero?"
"He reminds me of Homelander!"
"Is he just as fast?"
"Maybe he's just as strong!"
Nolan smiled as he listened to them talk in wonder.
Even despite supes being a regular thing here, his debut still made many people wonder.
With a smile, he began walking towards the movie theater, one thought in mind.
'Maybe I can make a new life here.'
'Who the fuck is this?'
Madelyn Stillwell was not happy.
No, that was an understatement.
She. Was. FURIOUS!
As Vought's Senior Vice President of Hero management, not only was it her job to manage the Seven, the world's premier superhero team, but it was her job to now everything she could about every public superhero.
When she had sent Homelander and Maeve to stop that speeding truck, she was angered to find out that some newcomer had stopped it before they could, and she had to calm Homelander's temper at being shown up by the so called 'white and red ripoff'.
Then a multitude of reports started flooding in about this… Omni-Man.
So she had sent Ashley to find out everything they knew about this new supe.
Only to discover… absolutely nothing.
Vought kept updated records of every baby ever injected with Compound V. But this Omni-Man turned up nothing.
He was a ghost. They didn't even know his real name.
And that irked her.
So, in one of the few instances of acting on instinct, she pushed the doors to CEO Stan Edgar's office open.
"Why the hell don't we have files on this Omni-Man?!" She asked, glaring at the CEO as she marched up to his desk.
Edgar barely reacted as he cupped his fingers together. "Excuse me?"
Madelyn slammed her hands on his desk in frustration. "Ashley just dug through our records. We have absolutely no record of any supe going by the name of Omni-Man. We don't even know his real name, he's a ghost."
"So track him." Edgar brushed off, unconcerned about the situation.
"Except he's not chipped."
That caught Edgar's attention.
"What do you mean?" His eyes narrowed as he leaned forward.
"I had Anika run a scan, see what name popped up where this Omni-Man has popped up."
"And?" Edgar asked, raising an eyebrow, urging her to continue.
"Nothing. According to the scan, no hero was at any of those locations, outside of Homelander and Maeve where he met them during his first appearance."
Edgar leaned back, concerned. "So we have supe, trained with his powers, playing hero."
"That's not even the scariest part." Madelyn admitted.
"Oh?"
"The math indicated that his speed reached an excess of 60,000 miles an hour. That's triple what Homelander can do."
Edgar's eyes widened. Homelander was specifically created to be their poster boy, their most powerful hero. Even A-Train wasn't as fast as him, and he was considered the fastest man alive. For someone to be faster than Homelander, and that someone to be a complete unknown…
"Keep tabs on this… Omni-Man character. I want to know every little thing we can find out about him. Try to contact him if you can, offer him a position. If we can get him, we want him. And do not, under any circumstances, let Homelander find out that he may not be top dog anymore." Edgar ordered, looking firmly at Madelyn, his tone booking no debate.
Madelyn nodded. She knew the hell that would be unleashed if Homelander knew about this.
Edgar returned the nod. "Have a good day, Stillwell."
Without a word, Madelyn turned on her heel and marched out of Edgar's office, intent on finding out all she could about this Omni-Man.
A/N: And there's the first chapter! So this is a crossover between The Boys TV Show, and Invincible, the Animated Series. While I may take elements from the comics, I have not read the Invincible comics, so this is firmly set using the animated version. Admittedly, this was spurred on by ScrewAttack's recent DeathBattle pitting Omni-Man against Homelander (We all knew that was a stomp).
Also, this is a slight crossover with Danny Phantom as well, since Clockwork will be a relatively important character in this fic. Why?
Because I've always been interested in trying to make my own multiverse, and I wanted to use an actual established character to bring Omni-Man to The Boys world, instead of a one-off quckly made character.
Also, props to you if you got the references during the bit in Clockwork's Lair. To give you the Answers, the references were
Superman from DC Comics
Optimus Prime from Transformers
Carla Yeager's Death in Attack on Titan
Jill being Chased by Nemesis in Resident Evil 3
Billy the Puppet from Saw
Alastor, from Hazbin Hotel
Dominic Torreto From Fast and Furous
Some survivors from The Walking Dead
and Hellboy from the Dark Horse Comic series.
Anyway, I hope you enjoyed this, and please leave a review as they are always appreciated, and they help motivate me to write.
As always, I will see you in the next one. Be careful and stay safe.
