Nolan sighed as he approached the movie theater.
The building itself looked relatively old, the red paint chipping and cracking, but the bricks it was made of stood strong.
It wasn't the site of the theater that bugged Nolan.
It was all the movies plastered on them.
Every single one of them was some Hero flick, another way to boost the advertisement for the heroes.
The Deep: Rising Tide, Translucent: Invisible Force, Dawn of the Seven… seriously, who came up with these names?
Nolan scoffed.
Sure, some fictional comics had been made about him back home, but those were with his permission, and he barely spared a glance. He didn't make money from them, and he never really wanted to.
But these heroes were making as much money off their popularity as they could.
"Pathetic." Nolan remarked, rolling his eyes.
Shaking his head to clear his thoughts, he put on his best show face and walked into the movie theater.
"Hi, how can I help you?" A young woman's voice caught his attention at the counter, and he approached, pulling out the ad he had seen for the Security position. She looked at him with a smile, and she was bouncing, almost as if she were excited.
The woman had blonde hair, and honey colored eyes that seemed to stick out to him.
Smiling, he laid the ad on the counter. "I'm uh, here for the security job?"
The woman looked at the ad in surprise. "We put that out months ago."
Nolan looked at her, a little disappointed. "Does that mean you already have someone?"
The woman shook her head. "No, it's just that I didn't think anyone was going to accept the job."
Nolan chuckled. "At 16 dollars an hour? I'm surprised it hasn't been taken already."
The woman giggled. "Well, as popular as this place is, we are in a pretty bad area. The only reason a theater needs a security guard is if crime is really bad."
Nolan smiled at the woman's remark. "Well, I'd like to think I'm pretty qualified for the job. Maybe I can fix that?"
The woman smiled, nodded. "Maybe. Let me go tell my manager that you're here real quick."
Nolan nodded. "Take your time, Ma'am."
Sam could barely keep the blush off her face as she walked back to her manager's office.
'That's who's applying for the job after so long? He's hot!' She could barely keep from embarrassing herself in front of the man and Oh god she was probably gonna work with him!
The man was tall, especially compared to her. He had to stand a foot and a half above her, she was only 5'2", and he was built beautifully. Chiseled toned arms were defined and easily on display in a white t-shirt that hugged his frame, and his face was just handsome, accented by the perfectly placed mustache on his face.
She nearly squealed in excitement as she knocked on her manager's already open door.
"Mr. Smythe?" She called, catching the attention of a man in his early thirties, slightly overweight as he worked at his computer.
"Yes? What can I do for you, Sam?"
Sam smiled at him. Unlike most managers these days, Evan Smythe was actually very kind and understanding, and rarely ever raised his voice or got mad. It was like he didn't even know what anger was.
"There's a man who just walked in with one of our old security ads. Says he's here for a job?" She explained.
Evan's eyes widened in surprise. "Really? We put that out months ago!"
Sam smiled, bouncing up and down in joy. "I know, that's what I said! He said he's surprised no one's taken it already."
Evan smiled. "Well, send him in then!" He said, putting away some files.
Sam nodded, grinning, and quickly made her way back to the front counter, more than happy to see this newcomer again.
She saw him standing patiently at the counter, and called out. "Hey!"
The man smiled at her, giving her butterflies in her stomach. "Hi."
"My manager is waiting on you. Just down that hall…" She said with a smile, pointing towards Evan's office. "Door on the end."
The man nodded. "Thank you, Miss. I hope to be working with you more frequently in the future."
Sam nodded, grinning excitedly. "Same."
The man smiled, and walked down the hall. As he walked, Sam couldn't stop her eyes from veering a little south.
'Oh, nice ass… I wonder if he's packing something up front…' She thought, biting her lip as she stared at his moving glutes. 'No, wait, bad thoughts! I don't even know the man yet.' She shook her head vigorously to get the thoughts out of her head.
"Oh, and Miss?" The man's voice caught her attention, and she looked to see him stopped at the hallway, looking at her with an amused grin on his face.
"Yes?" She said, trying to hide the fact that he was ogling him.
"Try not to get too distracted if I end up working with you." His tone made it clear exactly what he meant.
Sam felt her face go red, blushing at the fact that she had been so quickly caught. "U-um, Yes sir!" She said, nodding quickly averting her gaze in embarrassment.
The man chuckled at her reaction. "What's your name, Miss?"
Sam swallowed. "Sam Alcorn."
Nolan chuckled at her embarrassment. "Nice to meet you Sam. I'm Nolan Grayson. I hope to work with you for a long time."
He laughed as she blushed even harder, and she hid her face in embarrassment as he disappeared into Evan's office.
"Oh I'm so stupid!" She exclaimed, propping her elbows up on the glass counter as she groaned in embarrassment.
"Well, that was one hell of a site." A familiar voice caught her attention, and she groaned even more.
"Go away, Ellis." She groaned, refusing to remove her hands from her face. "I don't want to hear it."
Ellis just laughed, ignoring her complaints. "I think you crashed and burned as hard as you possibly could at the end there."
Sam simply groaned.
Ellis chuckled and rested his hand on her back. "I'm just joking with you Sammy." He said, smiling as he comfortingly rubbed her back.
"That was so embarrassing." He remarked. Sam just groaned in response. He chuckled. "Though, he is pretty hot."
"I know." Sam groaned as she stood up, pulling her hands from her face. "He might be the new security guard, and I just made a fool of myself."
Ellis chuckled at her remark. "I don't know, he didn't seem mad. Sounded like he thought it was funny."
Sam groaned, running a hand through her hair. "It seems like I either weird out every guy who I might like, or I end up with assholes."
"Ouch…" Ellis joked, smiling. Sam smacked his arm jokingly.
"Hey, you're gay. Our breakup would've happened sooner or later." Sam remarked, smiling at Ellis.
"Yeah, your right. Honestly, still kinda hurt though." Ellis admitted, before glancing at Sam. "But hey, maybe he's your guy."
Sam scoffed. "Doubt it. He probably thinks I'm some creep."
"That's an interesting girl you got out there." Nolan remarked as he shut the door, looking at the slightly overweight man sitting at the desk.
The man smiled. "Sam? Yes, she's a bundle of joy and energy if I've ever seen one." He joked as he stood to his feet. "Evan Smythe, owner of this beautiful place we call Kirkman Theater."
Nolan smiled as he shook the man's hand. "Nice to meet you. I'm Nolan Grayson. I'm interested in your security job, if it's still available."
"Oh, it is." Evan nodded as he retook his seat. "It's hard to find someone willing to take a security job in New York." He admitted, before looking up at Nolan. "Please, take seat, let's get started." He offered, gesturing to one of the empty chairs behind Nolan.
Nolan smiled and sat down. "Thank you."
"So, first things first. Full name?"
"Nolan Robert Grayson."
"Age?"
"35"
"Height?"
"6'2'"
"Alright, so tell me about yourself." Evan said, looking at Nolan.
"So I've been relatively sheltered my whole life. I was born in a small community in Arizona who pretty much renounced modern civilization." Nolan started, carefully crafting a cover story as to why, officially, he doesn't exist. "My birth wasn't even recorded by the U.S. government because of it. Technically, if I got this job, I won't exist until today."
Evan was surprised at the admission. "Really? Can I ask why you decided to leave your home?"
Nolan felt shame well up as he spoke again. "My people are a pretty violent bunch, and they live by the survival of the fittest mindset. Honestly, I'm lucky to be alive."
Evan was definitely surprised by the admission. "Oh." He turned back to the computer. "So you have no ID? No social security number? Nothing?"
"No."
Evan thought for a moment. "Tell you what, I'll go ahead and give you the job, off the books. We need the security terribly anyway, and we get enough business that we can still afford the 16 dollars an hour."
Nolan nodded. "I appreciate it, Mr. Smythe."
"Please, call me Evan." Evan smiled, before taking a serious tone. "I do ask in return though that you go and notify the government of your presence. I do not like to commit illegal acts, and your off the books hiring is a federal crime."
"I understand." Nolan said with a nod.
"Just get that done as fast as you can. I know you need money for it, but I would like to hire you officially as soon as possible." Evan said. Nolan nodded, smiling.
"Thank you, Evan."
Evan nodded, and then stood up. "Well, when's the soonest you can start?"
"The soonest you can let me." Nolan responded as he stood up. Evan thought for a moment as he moved around his desk.
"Does tomorrow work?"
"That's perfect."
Evan smiled. "Well alright then." He patted Nolan's back as he opened the door. "Let's go introduce you to your coworkers. Well, to Ellis anyway."
Nolan followed him out, following him to the front counter, where the girl from earlier, Sam, was now joined by a young man of similar height to her, with brown hair and blue eyes.
"Ellis, Sam, meet our new security guard, Nolan Grayson." Evan said, catching their attention as he gestured to Nolan.
Nolan smiled when he saw Sam beginning to blush, and he decided to have fun. "I'm familiar with the girl. She decided to the my behind was a rather nice view."
Her face turned tomato red and she covered it with her hands, groaning in embarrassment. "Oh my god…"
Evan just shook his head, smiling, while Ellis laughed at her reaction. "Sounds about right." Ellis remarked, poking fun at Sam's expense. "Anytime a beefy man with a nice face walks in, she turns to jelly." He looked at Nolan and approached him, offering his hand. "Ellis Winters."
"Nice to meet you, Ellis." Nolan smiled as he shook Ellis hand. He glanced over at Sam, and chuckled as he approached her. "It's nice to meet you properly, Sam."
Sam mumbled something, slowly shaking his hand as she continued to avert her gaze, still embarrassed. "Nice to meet you too…"
Nolan chuckled at her mumbling. "I'm sorry for embarrassing you, I was just joking with you."
Sam looked up at him as she removed her hands from her face, still red from some embarrassment. "S'okay."
Nolan smiled as Evan and Ellis laughed at the display. "Well, Nolan, I'll see you back here tomorrow. Try to be here around 9 AM, that work?" Evan asked Nolan, who nodded.
"Yeah, that works." Nolan responded with a smile as he left from behind the counter, before walking up to Evan, offering his hand. "Thanks again, Evan."
Evan smiled. "I'm glad to help." He responded as he shook Nolan's hand. "I'll be glad to see you back here tomorrow. Would you like a tour of the place before you go?"
Nolan chuckled, but accepted. "Sure."
Evan smiled, and then turned to his two other employees. "So, which of you two wants to give our friend here a tour?"
Ellis glanced at Sam, smirking. "Well, I've still got to mop up the lobby, so I'll leave it to our good girl here." Remarked, laughing at Sam's glare, while she mouthed 'I hate you'.
Evan nodded, seeing what Ellis was planning, and grinned. "Why yes, that sounds like a good idea." He glanced at Sam as he left for his office. "Try not to ogle him during the tour though, Sam." He laughed at Sam's groan of embarrassment, before retreating to his office while Ellis disappeared to the janitor's closet, leaving Nolan and Sam alone in the theater.
Nolan looked at Sam, with a smile, gesturing grandly towards the path that led further into the theater. "Shall we?"
Sam sighed and tucked some of her hair behind her ear, smiling at Nolan. "Well, follow me."
"With pleasure." Nolan remarked, smiling as Sam lead him further into the theater.
Billy Butcher could safely say that his day was not going at all as he was expecting.
It went exactly as planned at first. Meet Hughie, show him A-Train being a right cunt, and then convince him to help him against Vought.
What he didn't expect, was a new supe that seemed to be another version of Homelander to pop up.
One Homelander was bad enough, he was not anywhere near happy at the possibility of dealing with another one.
Lucky for him, he had happened to spot the cunt landing in a nearby alleyway.
Thanks to all the media coverage of him in the past couple of hours, Billy had a fairly good idea of what he looked like.
Tall, muscular, thick mustache and hair that looked like somebody took a shit on a snow cone.
If he hadn't seen him floating down, he probably wouldn't have known it was him, the way he was acting. Rather than flying or using his abilities out in the open, flaunting them like most supes would, this Omni-Man cunt was walking on the street like he was a normal person, keeping his powers completely hidden as he walked along the sidewalk.
"Now, what's this cunt up to?" Billy asked himself, quietly, hoping and praying that he wasn't making it obvious, though, with the kind of power he held, this guy probably would've flattened him already if he had caught on.
He trailed him all the way to the movie theater, Kirkman Theater, and then watched him enter.
He sat outside, waiting for him to come out.
Assuming that he didn't kill everyone inside and destroy the place, that is.
He sat on a bench, adjacent to the theater, across the street, and spied, thinking about his next move as he waited.
Was this fellow Vought's next big hero? Were they replacing Homelander?
Billy felt a sadistic satisfaction take him at the thought of the star-spangled cunt losing all his fans to this new guy.
'Serves the cunt right.'
But something was off to him. If this guy was supposed to be Vought's next big thing, then why was he hiding away, visiting a movie theater? Especially only after a few short hours of PR stunts? Wouldn't he be enjoying the attention? Wouldn't Vought want him to attract as much attention as he possibly could?
Your could say Billy was overthinking this.
You would be right.
He would admit it too.
But with Vought, it's never this simple.
'Why's the cunt hiding away? Is this a stunt to? Or is this something else…?'
As odd as it sounded, especially with his hatred for superheroes, something was nagging Butcher, telling him that this Omni-Man fellow could just be the saving grace he needed. The smoking gun to help bring Vought down.
He just had to try and figure out if his gut was right first.
Preferably without his gut leaving his body a few seconds afterwards.
"Shite… this is gonna be fucking hell, isn't it?" He mumbled as he sat, patiently waiting for the supe to leave the theater.
His patience eventually paid off… after a few hours.
He would never admit this, but he was actually giddy at the site of the supe leaving, and he was somewhat relieved to see that the cunt hadn't torn down the theater or killed anybody.
Though he wasn't expecting the girl.
He watched this Omni-Man fellow step out of the theater, a blonde little woman following him. They both seemed to have smiles on their faces. He looked away, careful not to stare and attract attention, and listened.
"It'll be good to have you with us, Nolan." Spoke the woman.
Nolan? Was that the wanker's real name?
"I'm glad to be working with you. Thanks for the tour Sam." 'Nolan' thanked, and Billy noted his gratitude sounded genuine.
The woman beamed. "No problem! I'm glad to make up for my earlier… ahem… goof up."
The woman, Sam, sounded a little sheepish as she spoke. 'What did she do?', Billy wondered.
'Nolan' chuckled. "It's fine. You're not the first person I've had ogling my muscles, and you definitely weren't the last either. At least you weren't trying to be blatantly rude."
Billy had to hold back from laughing at that. So, he caught her staring at his pecks?
"Besides, my butt before my arms or pecks? That's a first."
At that one, Billy had to stifle a laugh. Oh, that was a funny thought.
Sam sounded embarrassed as she spoke again. "Um, yeah… sorry…"
'Nolan' laughed. "You're fine. I really did enjoy the tour. Thank you, really."
The woman beamed, smiling widely at 'Nolan', her face lite up with joy. "No problem! If you need me to be a tour guide again, just let me know!"
'Nolan' chuckled. "I'll remember that. I'll see you tomorrow, Sam." He said, waving at her as he turned and began walking down the sidewalk.
Sam smiled, waving enthusiastically. "Talk to you later, Nolan!" She called after him, before reentering the theater.
And now it was time for Billy to make his move.
Standing up, he approached the supe, who was walking down the sidewalk. Since he was still just walking, Billy was quick to catch up, calling out to him.
"Oi! Nolan!"
At the man's voice, 'Nolan' turned around, surprised and confused. Billy swore he could see some concern in his face right now.
"Yes? Do I know you?"
Billy smirked. "Nah. I only know that name from your talk with the little blonde broad just a second ago." He admitted, looking 'Nolan' dead in the eye.
The man's eyes narrowed. "You were listening to that?"
Billy grinned. "Oh yeah. I've been waiting for you to walk out of that theater for the past three hours, you cunt." He pulled out his wallet, flashing his CIA badge. It was fake as fuck and would fail a background check faster than that cunt A-Train could move. But it looked real. That was the important part.
'Nolan' looked at it, confused, and raised an eyebrow. "What do you want with me?"
Butcher grinned as he put away his badge. "Well, you see, you resemble this new hero that everyone's making a fuss about, this Omni-Man wanker."
Billy felt great satisfaction when he noticed the man tense up.
"Huh. Odd coincidence." He tried to shrug off.
Billy grinned. "Really? I could've sworn I saw you land in an alley in those very same clothes a couple hours ago."
'Nolan's' face took on a stunned expression, and Billy knew he had his attention.
"How about we talk somewhere private?" 'Nolan' proposed, glancing around as if checking for people.
Billy grinned. "Now why would I do that, when you just might kill me?"
'Nolan' simply glared at Billy.
Billy realized a few seconds later that he may have jumped the gun, when he was hanging from the supe's grip by his foot above the clouds.
Looking down at the ground from high up, he craned his neck and glanced at 'Nolan's' face, which was stern.
"I wasn't asking."
Billy sighed.
"Well, Shite."
A/N: And so ends this chapter of Omni-Man: Vought's Downfall. Obviously, Nolan would make a civilian life for himself again, I don't see him just staying in his Omni-Man persona at all times.
I was debating on a scene with Homelander, but ultimately, I decided that I wanted to go ahead and set up Nolan's collaboration with The Boys.
I don't plan on having them go most of the episodes being strangers to each other, when I know that Nolan would almost immediately see through Vought's ruse, and assuming they met later on, He would actively seek them out with the intent of helping them, especially if he's going to bring down Vought covertly.
Honestly, my biggest problem here was making it seem like this was something Butcher would most definitely do. He has no problem, no fear, confronting supes he thinks he has an edge on, and considering his general knowledge of superheroes, he most definitely assume he'd have the advantage.
Nolan would most definitely respond in kind, interrogating him conversely and making sure they had privacy once Billy revealed his knowledge.
Also, No, Billy is not going to get hurt or killed. That would defeat he purpose of Omni-Man's existence in this world.
Anyway, I hope you enjoyed this chapter, and I will see you all in the next one.
Side Note: Damn this story blew up!
