The group emerges from the tall grass, sweating and panting as the heat and exercise from walking all morning was getting to them. And all was going well for the campers, until…
* snap *
All the campers let out a scream of fright and turn around except Cass, cause you know, someone has to stay calm.
"Sorry, I stepped on a twig." Ben apologized from the back of the group.
"Ugh, come on, man." Yasmina said to him.
"You done gave me a heart attack!" Sammy said.
"I should step on you." Kenji says to him.
"It's okay, Ben. We're all on edge." Darius assures the boy.
"And lost." Yasmina says to the group.
"Mhm." Cass grunts in agreement.
"Yeah, we've been out here for a while now. Darius, we sure we're still headed towards the park?" Sammy asks the navigator of this little expedition.
"Well, we'd be sure if I still had my phone, because it has a GPS, a compass, and is also a phone!" Brooklynn yelled out at Sammy.
"Sammy didn't steal your phone!" Yasmina says as she moves Brooklynn away from the girl. "No one stole your phone! Can we please stop talking about the stupid phone?" Yasmina says.
"You guys! You guys, you guys, you guys. Could you all yell at each other quieter, please?" Ben whisper shouted at the girls.
"My fellow campers, chill!" Kenji shouted to the group. "What we need here is someone who can make the hard call on what to do next. Since I'm obviously leadership material…" Kenji bragged but literally everyone looked at him like he was stupid. "I'll do this. And my first decree as leader is for everyone to stop talking and just listen to Cass and Darius." He exclaimed to the group as he put an arm around Darius and gestured to Cass.
"Huh?" Darius let out.
"Fucking… what?" Cass looks at Kenji with a raised eyebrow.
"You two were the ones to get out us out of camp alive. Darius is brains and Cass as the brawn. Plus I can blame you two if anybody gets eaten." Kenji casually tells the group.
There was a few seconds of silence as everyone just stared at Kenji. And then…
"Fair enough." Cass said with a shrug, and his response kinda started everyone up again.
"Wait, really? You're okay with this?" Yasmina asked him.
"I didn't exactly plan for this role of uh… hand-off leadership, but I did plan on watching over you all in the first place. So I don't really care?" Cass says as he looks at the shorter girl. "What? Don't think I can keep you safe?" He teased with a chuckle.
But as Yasmina was gonna stutter out an answer, Cass put his hand on the girls head. "I'm the only adult here. It's my job to make sure you all get home safe." He turns to the resident dino-nerd. "Isn't that right, co-captain Darius?"
The younger boy could only smile and nod. "He's right, believe in him. And me too of course."
"Good. Now that that's settled, which way you two?" Kenji asks as he backs up to the others as Cass and Darius meet up a bit closer.
Darius and Cass look at each other, look at the group, look at each other again, and then turn away with their backs facing the others.
"Please, you're just trying to cover up the fact that you're lost, too, Mr. VIP." Brooklynn says to the supposed leader of the group.
"Seriously, calling yourself the leader then giving those two all the responsibility. Not cool." Yasmina said as she glared at Kenji.
"None of us know where we are." Brooklynn adds to her comment.
And just as Kenji was gonna try and defend himself, both Cass and Darius spoke up.
"I know where we are!" Darius shouts out to the group.
"Yeah, I think I know where we're at… if I'm remembering correctly." Cass said to himself but loud enough for the others to hear.
"We're by the Carnotaurus paddock! I thought this place looked familiar." Darius said as he jogged ahead.
"Oh, so I was right." Cass said as he threw his eyebrows up quickly in surprise before returning to his usual face of gentle RBF and followed after the younger half of this leadership.
"Am I an excellent leader or what?" Kenji tried to take credit for the discovery as he followed after them. The other four could only trust in their navigation skills and chase after them.
"I remember the fence." Darius says as he and the others finally step out of another patch of tall grass. "The broken, ripped-down fence." He lets out as he looks upon the massive opening that was now there.
"That means… That means Toro is out here… with us." Ben says in between breathes as he tries to calm himself down.
"Now we have to deal with the Indominus and Toro." Darius says before coming to a realization. "Hold up. How do you know about Toro?" Darius asks Ben.
"We all know. Kenji told us, like, the day after it happened." Yaz explained to him as she walked by to be with her first friend.
Darius glared at Kenji, who responded with. "In my defense, me saving you was super cool." Darius could only sigh at him.
"We know this enclosure is due north of the main park. So, if we keep going that way, we'll hit the visitor's center." Darius said as he gestured to his right. "We're sure to find Dave and Roxie, or someone else there in charge."
"Mhm." Cass grunted with a nod.
"Yes! Exactly what I was thinking, as leader, which I am." Kenji says as he once again tried to claim some form of credit. "Follow me!" He said as he began walking in the direction that Darius pointed towards. The other campers walked with him, all but Darius and Ben, who stayed behind to have a talk.
"I don't think finding an adult is going to help. A terrifying, camouflaged dinosaur trashed our camp. No way they have a plan for that." Ben said in a hushed tone.
"Ben, I know it's scary, but this is Jurassic World. Dealing with dinosaurs is what they do." Darius tried to comfort him in a similar tone.
"They didn't deal so well back at their first park, did they? Hmm?" Ben said back.
"Everything will be okay. Trust me." Darius said as he began walking off towards the others with Ben following soon after.
* thuds and rumbling *
After the two boys left, the Indominus showed itself and let out a low growl.

WITH ROXIE AND DAVE
"Ugh! This is taking forever! I know Claire's a busy lady, but we can't leave the kids alone all day." Roxie exclaimed as she paced around the room that she and Dave were in.
"Wow, hittin' the first names. You only do that when you're annoyed." The male of the two said from the couch in the room, with a card in his hand.
"Of course I'm annoyed, David." She snaps at him. "We need to talk to Claire and get back to the kids ASAP! But instead, they shove us in here and just tell us to wait for her, and then everyone just disappears!" She walked over to the window and looked through the blinds. "Where'd they go? Something's going on."
"Look, I'm sure Claire- yeah, that's not gonna work- Ms. Dearing will get to us when she can." Dave reasoned.
"When? We've been here so long, someone gave you a birthday card to sign." Roxie said to him.
"Alright, the real issue is that no one else signed it. That's just sad. Poor… Eddie." Dave said as he began writing on the card. "Dear Eddie, I don't know you, but I'm sure you're doing…" He was toned out by Roxie as she began talking.
"Will you put that down and help me find a phone or radio? We have to get ahold of someone, ideally, Claire Dearing." Roxie said as she started looking through drawers and finally stopped at the big double door cabinet.
"Okay, maybe she's hiding so she doesn't have to sign this card and-" * metal clicks and rustling * "Are you picking that lock?" Dave asked incredulously.
"What?" Roxie turned away from the cabinet. "I watched Brooklynn's "Hacks for When You Lock Yourself Out of Your Hotel Room" video. It was actually so good, I subscribed." She looked away then back to Dave. "Don't tell her." And then went back to picking the door. "Almost…"
* click *
"Ugh, I'm so good." Roxie said as she unlocked the door.
"Mildly impressive." Dave agreed with a head nod.
Roxie then opens the cabinet, and is then bombarded with radios going off. The sounds of dinosaurs screeching, men and women screaming for help, and gun shots being fired. And one by one, the radios cut out until there's nothing left but static.
Dave and Roxie could only stare at the radios in horror as they could only imagine what was going on outside.

BACK WITH THE CAMPERS
The group were walking through the jungle being in the order of Darius, Cass, Ben, Kenji, Sammy, Brooklynn, then Yasmina. There was a low hanging leaf in front of them and right as Sammy was about to pass it, Brooklynn just walked through her, shoulder checking her on the way.
Yasmina came up to Sammy and said. "Don't let Brooklynn upset you. She's just being… Brooklynn." The two girls shared a smile as Yaz went on to catch up to the others.
Sammy stayed behind to pull out the phone, reminding herself of what she's done before putting it back into her pocket. "Yaz, there's something I…" She started as she pushed past the leaves only to stop and gasp.
And before the group, there was a rolled over gyrosphere that was broken and shattered in some places, and a dead ankylosaur.
"The Indominus Rex was here." Brooklynn said as she stared at the wreckage.
"Predators don't kill prey and then just leave without feeding. This… this isn't right." Darius said as he and Cass crouched next to the dinosaur body.
"I agree. Even if it's only a little, there's usually some piece of the animal missing. But… there's nothing, just the bite mark." Cass said. 'I can't think of a single reptile or amphibian that they could use to make it portray this kind of behavior. It's mostly just mammal species that kill for fun. What is this thing made of…?' Cass thinks to himself as he looks over the body.
* low groaning *
The campers all snapped their attention to the direction the noise came from, which was some tall grass to their left.
"Move, now." Cass whispered to them as he didn't want to take any chances.
And the group listened to him. With Ben, Darius, and Sammy hiding behind the gyrosphere. Brooklynn and Kenji hiding behind one tree. And Cass and Yasmina hiding behind another. The younger campers were all panting in fear as they watched the tall grass for what was coming. Cass took deep breathes as he tried to calm himself while hiding Yasmina behind him.
Then the creature leapt from the tall grass as it let out a snarl, startling the campers, causing a few to let out screams. But it soon replaced its noise with soft growling. Ben peaked around the corner to see what it was. And boy was he surprised when it was…
"Bumpy!" The boy called out as he ran over to his favorite little ankylosaur. Well… she wasn't quite as little anymore. Being about 3-4 feet in length and about 1.5-2 feet in height now.
The other campers came out once they realized they weren't gonna get eaten… yet.
"And drooly, and smelly. How do you even know that's the same dinosaur?" Kenji asked the resident dino-dad.
"Her big head bump. Dr. Wu said she's asymmetrical, but he's wrong that it's bad. And so what if she's asymmetrical?" Ben asks as he affectionately pets her. "There's nothing wrong with being different, or bumpy, or getting tired after reading an overly thrilling book! And maybe if her parents had listened to her, she wouldn't have come here and gotten attacked!" Ben exclaimed and everyone looked at him with a look of surprise.
"Are we still taking about the dinosaur? Feels like we're still not talking about the dinosaur." Yasmina whispered to Sammy and Cass.
"We are absolutely not talking about the dinosaur." Cass said with a smirk.
"As fun as this reunion is, shouldn't we keep moving south? Kenji said as he thumbed in the said direction.
"I'm not spending another hour walking through the jungle, hoping that we don't run into that Indominus. We need a new plan." Brooklynn said to the group.
"Uh, yeah, obviously we need a new plan. So I had Darius and Cass figure out a new one. Lay it on us, yo." Kenji said as he once again was being useless.
"Okay. So, uh… we need to find somewhere safe close by." Darius started.
"Agreed." Cass said.
"If camp is that way, and the park is that way… Isn't Dr. Wu's field genetics lab near here?" Darius asked Cass.
"Now that you mention it, yes, it is. If we're at where I think we're at, it should be that way." Cass said as he points to his left.
"That seems right." Yasmina agreed with him.
"I think so too." Sammy says.
"Great! That's where we should go. There's bound to be an adult there who can help or tell us what to do. Right?" Darius says to the group.
* faint roaring in the distance *
"We don't really have a choice now. Let's go." Cass said as he began leading the way with the other campers following his lead. All except Ben.
"What about Bumpy?" He asks.
"She's a dinosaur, bro. She belongs out here in the wild." Kenji responded.
"And she'll just slow us down. We gotta go now." Yasmina added on.
Said dinosaur in question let out soft growls as she rubbed up against Ben.
The boy could only look into her eyes with a frown upon his face.

It's been a good few minutes since the group took off in the direction of the lab. Moving through tall grass, and pushing leaves and branches out of the way as they kept moving. Yasmina totally didn't purposefully let a giant leaf go just so it would smack Brooklynn in the face. Definitely not.
"We're doing the right thing, yeah? Going towards the genetics lab? Or should we have stayed at camp? Would that have been safer? How are you so calm about this?" Darius fires off questions at Cass.
"It's not about doing the right thing. It's about doing what's best for the group, and right now, what's best is if we keep moving. Especially in the direction of shelter. The group needs to rest, you all specifically." Cass responded. "As for why I'm calm? Panicking won't help the situation, and worrying about everything won't help either. I plan on getting you all home safe, and back to your families. Other than that? I don't really care." He said as he pushed forward through the foliage.
"Wait. Guys, where's Ben?" Darius suddenly called out and everyone stopped and turned around to look for him.
Said teen was trying to drag Bumpy along with the group without them noticing, but that didn't work out. Bumpy let out her soft growls again.
"Shh! Shh! Come on." Ben whispers to the dinosaur.
Yasmina clears her throat to get the boy's attention.
"Oh!" Ben lets out in surprise as he shoves Bumpy into a bush to hide her. "Hey! How's it hangin'… dudes?" He tries to play off like nothing happened.
"Ben, are you hiding Bumpy in that bush?" Darius asks.
* soft bellowing *
"Nope. That could be anything. The jungle makes all sorts of weird noises." Ben tried to deny but was immediately caught as Bumpy rushed out from the bush and knocked the boy on his ass as she let out her soft growls.
"How did she get here?" Ben tried to play stupid.
"Mhm?" Cass hummed with a raised eyebrow.
"We don't have time for this! There are dinosaurs eating people out here, and Bumpy can't keep up!" Yaz told him.
"Ankylosauruses run fast. Right, Darius?" Ben tried to get the help of the resident dino-nerd.
"When they're fully grown, maybe, but she's just…" Darius started but Bumpy proved their point by immediately flopping onto the ground and began snoring.
"Wow! Yeah, total speed demon. Say goodbye, Ben." Kenji said as he and the others turned around to keep walking.
"No! You say hello, because she is coming with us! So… there!" Ben put his foot down on the matter as he wasn't willing to part with Bumpy.
"Ben, you're not thinking this through. Bumpy's too slow." Brooklynn told him.
"Then… then we'll put her in the van!" He called out.
"What van?" Sammy scoffs out.
"That one!" Ben pointed out past the group, and sure enough, there was a black van out on one of the dirt roads.
Everyone turned and looked at it for a hot second.
"You know… I could've sworn that wasn't there before." Cass said as he scratched the back of his head in confusion.
Sammy and Yasmina open up the back of the vehicle so that they and the others could get into it.
"It's an ACU transport! Asset containment unit. Got the tour of their HQ. Super hardcore dino-trapping security dudes." Kenji bragged to his fellow campers.
"Then where are they?" Darius asks, because they wouldn't just leave a van out here for no reason.
"Is that a tablet?" Brooklynn calls out as she shoves past Darius and Kenji to get into the van and grab it. She turns it on and goes to sit down and look through it.
Sammy let out a sigh. "What did they tell us? Oh, right. Come on, channel six." She said as she grabs the walkie-talkie in the back of the van and gives it a try. "Dave, Roxie! Can y'all hear us?"
* static crackles *
"And of course this doesn't have communication enabled. Because you know what? Why would it?" Brooklynn complained. "If I had my phone-"
"Enough already! There are bigger things going on here than your phone!" Darius finally yelled at the girl.
"I agree. It'd be best if we focused on getting out of here with what we have, instead of complaining about what we don't." Cass said as he got into the driver's seat of the van, considering that he's the only one to his knowledge who actual knows how to drive. Yasmina joined him by getting in the passenger's seat. That leaves Darius, Sammy, Kenji, Brooklynn, Ben, and Bumpy to be in the back.
* beep *

* beep *
"There's a map program with little moving dots on it." Brooklynn said in response to the beeping of the tablet.
"They chip all the dinosaurs electronically to track them." Darius explains. "See? There's us, and there's…" Darius says as he points at the first spot, then the second. With the second being a herd of brachiosaurus.
Kenji was looking at the map before he frowned in confusion. "Wait. Here's the Brachiosaurus Grove on the map, so why are the Brachiosauruses way over there?" Kenji asked as he pointed out the two different locations.
"I think maybe the fences are down. At least some of them." Darius offers an explanation.
"I think you're right. Why else would we have seen four dinosaurs already?" Cass says as he finally finds the keys to the van.
Bumpy lets out growls and some squeals as she looks to be panicking.
"Easy, girl." Ben says as he hops out of the van to comfort the dino.
* rumbling *
Bumpy whines out at the sound and Ben calls out to the group. "Guys? Something's coming this way."
* rumbling *
"That's weird. Whatever that is, it isn't showing up on the tablet." Brooklynn stated while looking at the device.
"What kind of dinosaur wouldn't have a transponder?" Darius questioned.
"I am not in the mood to find out." Kenji asked in a scared whisper.
Bumpy kept squealing out as Ben tried to keep her quiet.
"Ben, shut her up!" Yaz said said to the boy in a hushed tone.
* roaring *
"We gotta go now!" Darius yelled to Cass.
As Ben and Bumpy got into the van, and everyone buckled in, Cass started up the van and put it in drive.
* thump *
* thump *
* thump *
Cass slammed on the gas and took off just as the Indominus broke through the tree line. The giant albino nightmare let out a roar as it chased after the van. Cass saw it catching up and decided to take a sharp turn left to throw it off, and it worked. The Indominus slipped and fell, but got back up and chased them once more as it let out a roar.
"It's coming!" Darius yelled out.
"Step on that thing!" Sammy yelled.
"Zigzag!" Darius added.
"I know what I'm doing! So just please shut up, and let me concentrate!" Cass yelled back at them as he shifted gears to speed up and hooked right, driving off the path towards a small cliff that leads downhill. The passengers of this ride from hell all let out screams as they flew through the air. Finally they hit the ground and Cass saw a sign that said "RESEARCH", so he headed in the direction the sign pointed towards and swerved past and around trees to get there.
The Indominus was losing ground as the van sped off. So it stopped and stood on some rocks to let out a roar, almost as if it was a declaration to find them again.
Cass sped down the hill and slammed on the brakes as he turned left, which caused the vehicle to slide in that direction before coming to a complete stop. And lo-and-behold, Cass managed to perfectly park it in the road.
"So… everyone still alive?" Cass asked as he looked over his fellow campers.
"Thanks to you, we are." Yasmina said in between pants as the adrenaline was slowly wearing off on the kids.
"At least we lost the Indominus." Brooklynn said as she tried to catch her breath.
"Now… where do we go?" Yasmina asks.
"How about into the genetics lab?" Ben let out. And sure enough, less than 50 feet in front of them was none other than the genetics lab they intended to go to. The campers looked towards the building, then turned to look at Ben.
"It's a gift." He says in response.
All the passengers got out and began walking to the building, Cass stayed behind for a quick second and checked on the gas levels, and saw that it was basically empty. 'Thank you, Lady Luck and Lady Death. You two beautiful women have saved my ass once again.' He let out with a sigh as he left the keys in the van and got out to follow the others.
* door hissing *
The group made their way into the darkened lab and began to search rooms for people or a way to contact someone, but found nothing so far, so they head off to another room, but see something that makes them stop in their tracks.
A birthday cake with candles. Lit candles.
"What?" Darius questions.
A man suddenly popped up from behind the desk with a grunt and a crazed look in his eye, which scared the young campers and made them scream. The man stood up and screamed as he turned on a lamp and aimed it at the group.
"Not dinosaurs. You're not dinosaurs." The man said in relief as he let out a sigh. "This is the worse birthday ever." He said as he flopped onto the table before him.
After a few minutes of calming down to the best of their ability, the group plus the man had arranged themselves in the room. Darius, Sammy, and Kenji were all standing around the table with a slice of cake. Brooklynn was seated at another desk roughly ten feet from them. Ben was kneeling on the floor petting Bumpy just a few feet away. Yasmina was sitting on another desk that was a few feet behind Darius and the others, and Cass was leaning on the same desk right beside her. The man was looking through the windows of the room, probably to make sure nothing got in.
"Again, we are so happy we found you. Things are crazy! There's a giant camouflaged dinosaur out there. Also, regular dinosaurs. We've been hoping to find someone-" Darius was saying but was cut off.
"You're sure you closed the door behind you, right?" The man asked as he peeked around the door way and into the hall.
"No, I left it wide open." Cass said sarcastically with an eye-roll. "Of course I closed the damn door."
Kenji lets out a burp which catches the attention of the man and a few others. "Sorry? Did you want it back?" Kenji asked as he held out the slice of cake that he had already taken a bite out of.
"You know what? Doesn't matter. The dinosaurs got out and no one bothered to tell me; they just ran. So, why not? Knock yourself out." He said as he crouched next to the door frame.

"Ugh! There's no dial tone!" Brooklynn complained as she slammed the office phone back onto the receiver and flopped back into her chair.
"The landlines are down. So is the radio, the cell phone service keeps cutting out." The man explains the them, with the younger campers looking shocked.
"Yeah, that seems about right." Cass mumbled to himself as he stretched, popping his back. But everyone heard him.
"Really? How so?" Yasmina asked from right beside him.
"Hmm? Oh, well the island is on a closed loop more-or-less. If the island was fully functioning and nothing was wrong, we'd have full internet access and could call or text the mainland. But since everything went to hell, I'm gonna assume that something fucked with the power grid, or the signal transmitters/receivers. So for now, we're just gonna be bouncing shitty signal off of shitty signal on the island. We're not gonna be able to connect to the outside world unless we find somewhere that isn't affected by all this." Cass explained as he sat on the same desk that Yaz was on and laid down on it.
"That… makes a lot of since actually." Yasmina said as she looked back at him.
"But the park obviously has a plan. So, what's that plan? What do we do?" Darius asked the only remaining scientist.
"You're asking me?" The man gestured towards himself before letting out crazed laughter. "Asking me?" He said through more laughter.
"Is that, like, a good freaky laugh?" Sammy questioned as she and the others took a few steps back.
"Do you not get it? We're doomed." The man said as he stood up and stopped laughing. He walked towards them. "No one is coming to help!"
The campers all looked at each other with worry in their eyes,
"But what about Dr. Wu, or-" Kenji started.
"Wu? Who do you think is to blame? Wu got greedy. And instead of dinosaurs, he built monsters!" The man said as he gestured towards an incubation table that was still operating. The kids could only look at the eggs with a hint of worry and fear.
"Masrani, Dearing, they're all clueless about what's really going on here. And after everything I did for the other guys-" The man said as he picked up one of the dinosaur eggs.
"Other guys? What other-" Brooklynn tried to ask.
"It doesn't matter, does it?" The man said as he set the egg down and turned back towards the group. "Jurassic World isn't a park. It's a powder keg, and it's fucking detonating all around us! We're all going down. End of story!" He exclaimed.
"No, you have to know what to do. You're an adult!" Darius said to him.
"Am I the only one who seems to remember that I'm an adult…?" Cass whispered to Yaz. The girl could only shrug her shoulders to his question.
"Don't look at me. I was just hiding until you all barged in." The man said as he held up his hands.
"But we drove all the way here 'cause-" Darius was saying.
"Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa! You have a vehicle?" He asks as he grabs Darius and pushes him as he runs through the door to get to it.
"We need to get after him!" Kenji said.
"Not really?" Cass said as he sat up and hopped off the desk. "But we can watch him not go anywhere, if that'll help." He said as he started walking towards the exit with his hands in his pockets. The others looked at each other then quickly followed after him.
By the time they caught up to Cass, he was already outside standing at the entrance of the lab as he watched the scientist run towards the van.
"Stop! What are you doing?" Darius shouted at the man.
"Getting out of here alive! What does it look like?" He shouted back as he reached the van and hopped into the driver's seat. He fumbled around with the key until he finally got it in and started the van. The man then slammed on the gas and tried to drive away, key word: tried.
"Come on." Cass said as he walked down the steps and followed after him at a walks pace.
"Why would you just let him take the van? We needed that!" Kenji said to him.
"Because it was basically empty, that's why." Cass replied.
"Wait, really?" Darius chimed in.
"Mhm. Got us here with just enough fuel. Dude couldn't have made it further than 100 feet." Cass responded to him.
And lo-and-behold, Cass was right. They could see the vehicle visibly slowing down due to the lack of fuel maybe 75 feet in front of them. But suddenly, the Indominus makes an appearance and slams the vehicle off the dirt road and into a tree. With the dinosaur showing up, it made the younger campers scream in fright, while Cass got a bit more serious.
"And because I figured that the current pain in our ass was gonna be looking for the van." Cass said as he started to back up and making sure the others were with him.
The Indominus let out a roar as it slammed its head into the van once more, making it spin a few times. Eddie (the scientist) saw the large creature come towards the van and tried to get out through the driver side door, only to find out that it was heading for that door to begin with and he hopped back inside, barely avoiding getting eaten. Eddie slipped over the seats and tried to exit though the back door but saw that the Indominus had moved to look at the rear entrance, so he did what anyone else would do, he let out a scream of fear as he fell on his ass and crawled underneath the van. He wasn't even safe for more than a second before the Indominus moved the vehicle aside and chewed him into nothing. Once more, blood littered its maw and the ground where the man once laid.
"Let's go, now." Cass whispered as he turned back towards the lab and started running in that direction. The others soon followed after his example. They all kept running until they came across a fence.
"Come on, are you kidding me?" Darius complains.
"Perfect! The park's only intact fence!" Kenji whines as he slams his hands on the metal bars.
* roaring *
"Less whining, more hiding." Cass told him as the group moved to hide behind some large rocks nearby. It took a moment to get everyone into a spot and to get Bumpy to be still and quiet.
"Why couldn't you leave her behind? She only gonna slow us down and make unnecessary noise." Yasmina said to Ben.
"Because I'm not gonna abandon her like we were." Ben retorted.
After a few seconds of silence, Darius responded. "Ben's right. We're on our own."
* roaring *
The campers let out their respective screams. Once they quieted down, Cass and Darius gave each other a nod before they both peeked out from behind the rock to look for where the Indominus, seeing as how they heard its footsteps close by. They heard it let out its snarl as the dinosaur stepped out from behind some shipping containers that were littered around the lab. Before ducking back behind cover as to not be seen.
Sadly, nothing works out as planned when dinosaurs are involved.
* squealing *
Bumpy was whining out in fear because of the close proximity of the large predator. The Indominus sadly heard the sound as it stood up straighter and let out another snarl.
Darius was shushing the small creature as Ben held and comforted her. The other campers could only wince at the thought of being found. Darius stood up and once more peeked around the rock in order to spot the Indominus. He saw the beast let out a growl as it walked away to search a different part of this wrecked storage area towards their right, he turned left and saw another van not too far from them.
Darius made the signal to move out with his hand and tried to step out but was stopped by Ben, who grabbed his arm and shook his head no.
"Trust me." Was all Darius said in a whisper.
"Do what he says. I'll be right behind you." Cass assures them in a whisper.
Darius could only nod in appreciation as the group snuck off from behind the rock to behind some shipping containers. Once they were safely behind those, Darius checked on the group and was about to continue but the Indominus stepped out into the open from behind a different set of shipping containers in front of them. The young co-leader of the group quickly ducked behind a nearby barrel, everyone followed his lead and ducked/hid against the container.
The Indominus looked in their direction and took a deep sniff of the air, it caught their scent and stomped its way forward, letting out a roar as it shoved its head past the containers where he campers were. But it found nothing. So it stepped out and looked around as it sniffed the air some more, trying to find its missing prey.
Ben, Bumpy, and Kenji were hiding behind some barrels as they didn't have time to get to the others before the Indominus appeared.
Darius, Brooklynn, Sammy, Yasmina, and Cass were further up ahead on the opposite end of the shipping container. Darius leaned out a gestured for them to move up to them. Kenji could only fearfully nod no to him, as the large albino dinosaur was facing their direction and sniffing around not even ten feet behind them. Darius saw this and picked up a decent sized rock, before handing it to Cass, the more physically strong of the two. And the older half of this leadership knew exactly what it was for. He stood up from behind cover and took aim at a stack of barrels at the other end of some containers, probably 30-45 feet from them, he cocked his arm back and pitched towards the barrels, hitting them and making a loud enough noise to draw the attention of the Indominus.
Thankfully the beast heard it and went to go investigate the sound. Kenji turned and saw the dino walking away, so he, Ben and Bumpy ran to join the others. Once they were all together again, Cass looked around the corner and saw the van, so he headed off in that direction as quietly as he could, motioning the others to follow. And they did, they made it about a third of the way there.
Until Brooklynn tripped and fell, dropping the tablet as she let out a grunt of pain. Suddenly, the tablet started trilling, the girl tried and managed to stop the noise, but it was too late. The Indominus let out a roar as it went to go hunt whatever made the noise.
The teens let out their screams as they ran away from the incoming danger.
"Brooklynn!" Sammy called out as she ran to help the girl.
"Meet me at the van! I'll get it started!" Cass yelled out as he sprinted towards the vehicle. Time is everything when it comes to survival, no point in wasting it.
The Indominus looked towards him, then to Sammy and Brooklynn, and decided to go after the two girls. Sammy ran over to Brooklynn and helped her up so that the two girls could run, just in time too, because the albino monster snapped its mouth right where they stood previously. Chasing after the two as they ran in between shipping containers to hide. Thankfully, the Indominus was too big in order to fit between them, catching its shoulders on the edges of the containers as it tried to take bites out of the girls, but was unable to reach them.
* rhythmic clanging *
The Indominus pulled its head away and turned to see what was making the noise. The one making the noise was none other than Darius, who was beating a large stick against the metal shipping containers.
"Hey, over here!" He called out to grab its attention as he ran away. And it worked, the beast let out a roar as it chased after the boy, thinking he would be easier prey.
And with the dinosaur no longer biting at their heels, Brooklynn and Sammy came out of hiding and ran towards the van. Darius was running for his life as he tried to buy the girls some time. Finally the two made it to the van, with Cass and Yasmina up front, Bumpy already in the back, then Kenji and Ben standing outside to help them in. Everyone buckled in and were waiting to go.
"Why aren't we moving?" Kenji called out.
"Darius isn't with us. We're not leaving without him." Cass said as turned his head and looked out the back of the van, readying his foot in order to slam on the gas the moment Darius joins them.
Said boy was currently panting and whimpering in fear as he ran from the colossal thunder-fuck that was the Indominus Rex. The beast let out a roar as it went to take a bite, but just barely missed. He saw a tipped over container which was big enough to slide under, but not big enough for the dino behind him. So that's what he did, he slid through the gap and kept running. The Indominus tried to to go under as well, but got stuck, after a few seconds it managed to lift the container off of itself and chase down the boy gain.
Darius jumps into the back of the van as Sammy and Ben close the doors right behind him. Cass took that as his cue to hit the gas and take off, leaving the Indominus back at the lab as it roared at them, but gave no chase.
Darius lets out a sigh of relief before slowly bursting out into laughter, soon, the other campers joined him, as well as Bumpy, who just let out her little squeals. Cass just chuckled to himself as he kept his eye in front of him. Their celebration was cut short by the sound of Roxie's voice coming from the radio next to Cass.
"Kids? Come on, pick up!" Roxie said as she paced around the room with Dave right beside her. "There's something going on. Stay at camp. We're heading to you."
* static crackles *
"No, we're heading to you!" Darius says as Cass tossed him the walkie-talkie.
* static crackles *
"Darius! Wait, why are you-" Roxie started
"We're fine, but we had to leave camp." Darius said.
"What?" Both Roxie and Dave said at the same time.
"Long story." Darius responded.
"Short story: a dinosaur ate camp." Yasmina chimes in.
"Shorter story: epic leader Kenji somehow got everyone out safely." You already know who said that.
"Yeah, keep telling yourself that." Cass let out.
"And then we found a van and Bumpy!" Ben added as the little ankylosaur let out a squeal.
Dave could only look at Roxie with a confused yet blank face and say. "I got nothing."
"We're cutting through the jungle and heading to the main park." Darius said.
* static crackles *
And with that, Roxie tosses Dave the walkie-talkie and runs off out of the room that they're in.
"Should be there soon." Darius says one last message.
"We're getting out of here!" Brooklynn said as she and the others in the back cheered.
"Yeah! You hear that, Bumpy?" Ben says as he pets the dino.
Yasmina let out a small cheer as she playfully punched Cass in the shoulder. "Hey, thanks for driving, and you know… helping us in general. It's because of you and Darius that we even made it this far." She said to him in a hushed tone, so that they could speak alone.
"Think nothing of it." He responded in kind. "I told you I was gonna get you home. I'm not gonna let a few dinosaurs stop me from doing that." Cass said as he looked over at Yaz and gave a soft smile before turning back to the road and kept driving.
Yasmina stared at him for a moment before looking down into her lap as she tucked a strand of hair behind her ear. "Yeah, you did say that." She said to herself with a small smile adorning her face.
While they were having their little moment, the conversation in the back was happening.
"Good job not getting eaten, bro." Kenji said as he looked over at Darius.
"Thanks, "brah"." Darius let out.
"Oh, no, you- you made that sound weird. No more bro-talk for you." Kenji jokingly says.
Brooklynn held up her hand to give Sammy a high-five.
Sammy could only smile and laugh. "We did it, camp family! And not a moment too-" She was saying as she was about to return Brooklynn's gesture, but was jolted sideways, like the rest of the campers. Cass had to drive over some rocks in the road as to not hit the trees on either side. But because of the rough and constant movement… Brooklynn's phone bounced out of Sammy's back pocket, and came clattering down onto the floor of the van. And all went silent as they processed what just happened.
"My phone… I knew it!" Brooklynn let out as she stomped her foot down.
Sammy could only gasp as she looked at everyone as they finally knew that she took it.
"Huh? Sammy?" Yasmina asked as she couldn't believe what she was seeing.
Cass turned his head to glance back at the situation, believing that the road would be straight, and he was right, but he wasn't ready for an almost unnoticeable pothole in the road to jerk the van to the left and into some rocks.
"Hold on!" Was all Cass could get out before they crashed and the teens let out their screams.
