Percy's eyes were locked onto his laptop in front of him, a mixture of hatred and fear overcoming him. He watched as the couple struggling against the police, desperately trying to reach for one another as they were loaded into separate vans.
Percy always knew that him and his soulmate were different. His mom had always told him from a young age, that he was different, and that he needed to be extra careful.
He knew that the government viewed 'his type' as an enemy, as they feared the power they held. He knew that they were scared of him, unaware of what he was capable of, and were worried that if he joined forces with others like him, they were in danger of being overthrown.
What he didn't know, and definitely didn't expect, was the public reaction. His eyes flickered down to the comments, blood pounding as he took them in.
'Freaks!'
'They need to die!'
'Thats so weird!'
'Ew wtf the government need to get rid asap. These people are soo creepy!'
He bit his lip and his eyes nervously flickered around the coffee shop.
How many people in here would wish him dead, if they knew? He pictured how his life would drastically change, and quickly closed the tab.
He was mad. Soulmates were celebrated so much in society, and people congratulated when they finally meet them. He didn't understand why people completely changed their perspective when the soulmates had a slightly stronger connection than others. It was still something to be celebrated!
He was so thankful for his mom. She had told him from the beginning that it was okay, and that she would love and support him through it.
As he watched the cute blonde girl, Annabeth (not that he was paying attention or whatever) stand from where she was sat and go and collect her drink, a vanilla latte (not that he was paying attention or whatever!), he thought back to the time that him and his mom first noticed his connection.

'Percy dear! Dinner!'
His ten year old self bounded out of his bedroom and made a beeline for the table, excited to eat whatever his mom had made. Ever since his mom had left Gabe, she had been experimenting with different recipes, the light in her eye growing every time she made something delicious. It made Percy so happy to see his mom become herself again. She spun around with a smile on her face and began to walk over, plates in hand.
All of a sudden, Percy felt his head rattle and yelled out in pain. It felt like he had been chucked onto the floor, and smacked his head against the concrete. Before he knew it, his finger, almost as if possessed, quickly bent back and snapped right down the middle.
Sally froze, plates clattering to the ground. As Percy cried in pain, she stared at the boy in shock, fear marking her features.
'Mom! It hurts!'
Sally snapped out of her trance and ran over to the boy, cradling him in her arms.
'Shhh, its okay, you're okay! What happened?'
Percy shook his head, confused 'I didn't do anything i promise mom! It did it itself! Please help! It really hurts!'
Sally glanced at the door and hesitated for a second, before lifting him up and carrying him down to the car.
That night, he learnt about the soulmate connection, and how powerful it was, but also how dangerous it could be, and from that moment on he swore to do everything he could to make sure that the government didn't find out, take him away from his mom, and most importantly, never hurt his soulmate again.

'So, you're telling me that a jellyfish is 95% water?'
Percy raised an amused eyebrow at Jason, who was munching on a brownie.
'Yes? Whats wrong with that?' Percy asked, taking a sip of his coffee.
'Well, it's not normal, how can they be basically water but live in the water, thats like us being made out of air!'
Percy sat back in his chair and stared and his friend. He swore Jason was supposed to be the smart one out of them two.
'You're actually an idiot,' he spoke, rolling his eyes and lowering his voice, 'besides, you're not one to point the finger at whats not normal? Are you?'
Jason smile dropped and glanced round the room to see if anyone was listening. He relaxed when he saw the cost was clear, before smiling cockily at Percy. 'You're just jealous i found my soulmate. And she's super hot!'
Percy laughed at his friend before focusing back on his laptop, eager to finish his essay before the night ended.
Jason had recently found his soulmate, Piper. Percy was actually there when it happened, and he finally understood why Jason had always been so quiet about it before. Jason was like him.
Well, not completely. Percy could feel the pain of his soulmate, whereas Jason had some form of telepathic connection. He described it to Percy as 'it's more like images, not actual thoughts. Like i can't tell what shes thinking, but an image of a really good doughnut will pop in my mind, if shes thinking about it. That type of thing.'
Percy wont lie, he was very confused. But last week when he insisted that his soulmate must be in central park, because he could picture the food truck she was thinking about, he happily raced after his friend and they ended up meeting Piper, waiting in line to get a burrito.
He was really happy for his friend. He was even happier that they trusted him with their secret. Jason knows that him and his soulmate are different too, but Percy has never really gone into depth about it.
Until today.
Percy sipped on his coffee as he watched Annabeth gather her stuff from her table and put them in her bag. When he tore his gaze away he saw Jason grinning back at him.
'What?' Percy asked defensively.
'Oh nothing!' Jason stated, leaning back in his chair, 'please continue checking that girl out. Sorry for interrupting!'
Percys eyes narrowed at him 'You little-'
He was interrupted by the door open and closing, as Annabeth stepped into the cold air and began to walk down the street.
Percy watched from afar, brows furrowing when he saw a group of men cross the street and approach her. She turned the corner and they left his vision.
'Do you think she knows them?' He asked, a little worried about the girl.
Jason shrugged in response, and finished his brownie.
Percy stood up and shoved his laptop in his bag. 'Cmon', he started 'She shouldn't be walking at night by herself anyway, lets just check if shes okay'
Jason nodded and they both exited the shop and followed towards where Annabeth disappeared.
'I still don't understand Jellyfish man.' Jason started, 'like why do - ',
He was interrupted by Percy, who clutched his head in pain and let out a loud yell. He dropped his bag, and Jason rushed to his side and placed a worried hand on his shoulder as a small cut appeared on his head. Percy's eyes shot up to meet his.
'My soulmate! Shes hurt! I need to - '
'PERCY!'
Jason and Percy froze and the voice and glanced in the direction it came from, hearts pounding. They glanced at each other before running towards after it, rounding the corner and eyes falling toward Annabeth, who was surrounded by three guys - and had a cut on her head exactly the same as Percy.
Percy's blood ran cold. His breathing quickened, taking the scene in before him. His hand slowly rose to where his new cut was, shock on his face.
Annabeth was his soulmate.
'GET THE FUCK AWAY FROM HER!' He yelled, gaining the attention of the guys, who spun round to see him. They laughed a little at him before standing and pretending to think.
'I don't think i will!' He laughed, before spinning and kicking the girl in the head, causing her to black out.
Percy winced in pain, grabbing his head as agony overtook him. Jason grabbed his shoulders to support him and after a few seconds Percy composed himself and stood up straight.
His vision tinted with red. He glanced down at his soulmate who was bleeding on the floor, and anger overpowered him.
Him and Jason charged.

Sally froze, taking in the sight in front of her. Her son, carrying a girl who was bleeding, stumbled into the living room through the front door, shortly followed by Jason, who ran to open Percys bedroom door.
'Mom! Shes hurt! I need your help!'
Percy placed her gently on the bed, and his mom rushed over to her side, immediately reaching for her wrist to take a pulse. She let out a sigh of relief at the steady heartbeat, and moved to brush her hair out of her face, taking in the cut that marked her head.
She glanced back up at her son, heart pounding when she noticed the same cut on his head.
Her eyes flickered to Jason, who smiled politely and patted Percy on the shoulder, before leaving the room, knowing that this conversation was bound to be private.
A million thoughts rushed through Sallys brain, but she found herself taking her sons hand in hers,
'You're okay. Shes okay. And everything will be fine.'
Percy was shaking slightly, but at those words he broke down crying into his mothers shoulder, as they both stared at the young girl on the bed.
Everything will be fine.

Thank you for the positive reviews! Im sorry if theres any grammar errors or anything like that, i write for fun whenever i feel inspired and it just kinda pours out until i run out! I wanted to show Percy's perspective on the first chapter, and if you guys have any ideas on where the story should go then let me know! I will definitely be putting more interaction between the couple, and explaining more on the different types of soulmates (like jason and piper) and elaborating more on why the government doesnt like it - and also what they end up doing about it!
Thank you again!!
