Ian and Barley take a vacation to bond as brothers. However, they end up in an old west town named Dodge City that has lost access to all of its water for an unknown reason. But soon they have to deal with an outlaw scorpion man and his posse, the Roc Brothers, who is said to have something to do with the disappearance of Dodge City's water.

Walking across an invisible bridge over a bottomless pit is not so scary if you have a rope tied around your waist and your big brother holding the other end. Unless the rope is too short. What do you do then?

After a traumatic experience, Ian realizes he can't handle the fame of being his town's resident wizard. When he tries to prove he can be strong, he lets his emotions get the best of him.

When the brothers head to the Manticore with a shaking staff, she herself senses something wrong in the realm. They go with her to search for the source, and Ian and Barley find out that they're in greater danger than they've ever been.

One night, Ian woke up as a ghost outside of his sleeping body. And, of course, magic from his staff was to blame for this transformation. Ian soon finds out he can go into dreams in this ghostly form. When Ian found out Barley was having a nightmare, he went his dream to put a stop to that once and for all.
