Somewhere far away from us, the doorbell rang, but neither Atticus nor Aunt Alexandra moved, the two instead clinging just as tightly to Jem's hands, as if they hadn't heard the sound. Once more it rang, and then again, and still, it could never penetrate the scene.(Halloween 1935 AU)

AU. The summer of 1932 was unfolding like every other summer for Jean Finch.

One shot. Scout wants to be the best sister she can be for Jem but feels she just can't live up to what she thinks are his standards.

"Forgive me, Jean, wherever you are. Forgive me for my failures,"

The Halloween attack may have been awful, but at least it had a reason. It was just like Atticus had said: he'd destroyed any credibility Bob Ewell had, and he'd taken it out on Jem and me. But what began to happen to Atticus a year later, when the gossip had long ago died down and Maycomb was back to its tired old self, that was worse, because it had no reason.

Quite simply, Jean Graham meets Atticus Finch.

One shot. Atticus thinks about the events of his life leading up to the morning of Tom Robinson's trial.

Dreams can be mysterious things.

A short, missing scene from during the night while Atticus sits by Jem's bedside after the vicious attack by Bob Ewell.

There were three of them; not one or two, but three Finches crushed that day, a part of them buried with Jean Graham Finch. Three Finches who lost their love.

Intelligent, witty, hopelessly romantic and breathtakingly beautiful were the words he would use to describe her.
