The brothers had gone to their required basic training, a condition set by Taminick. They were also instructed not to cause trouble when interacting with the other cadets, and preferably keeping to themselves. That suited the brothers just fine, since that would reduce the number of questions asked about their background.
Jade was currently looking up information regarding the now Rogue Weaver, Taylor McKay. Any information she found, would help when she went to speak with him. During interviews, her hunches always pointed her in the right direction to take the conversation.
"So, you're an Empath," Alden's voice came up from behind her, she hadn't heard him come in. That was something that annoyed her, people entering without knocking.
"Excuse me, don't you know how to knock before entering? I'm not an empath, I just happen to know exactly when people are lying," Jade said, in a tone that conveyed her annoyance at the interruption.
"I do when I choose to, I didn't choose to," Alden replied, sitting down in a chair. He rested his arms on the top of the chair's back. It made him seem like he owned the place. "How long have you been having these hunches of yours?"
Jade was still annoyed, but she knew Alden wanted an honest answer. "Since I was twelve or thirteen, I don't know."
"What do you know about your family history?" Alden asked, continuing using the same tone.
"I was adopted as a baby, so nothing really. My parents, Jim and Pat Young, raised me from that point. If it wasn't for them, I wouldn't have turned out as well as I did. I thank them for everything they've done for me. My dad died of cancer, and my mom followed him about four years later due to complications post hip surgery," Jade said.
"Do you have any other family?" Alden asked, his tone shifting, he knew how it was to lose someone you cared about.
"I have one cousin, from my mother's side, I occasionally speak to, but I'm not really close to anyone else," Jade replied. "What does that do about you claiming that I'm an empath when you barged in here without knocking?"
"From what Taminick told me about your first meeting with her, and what General Muher told me about your time on the Lynx. Both of those point to an Empathic Gift, even though you think it's only a talent of knowing when someone is lying or not. That's something that would fall under the Healing Gifts, which in turn fall under the Aether training." Alden answered.
"My hunches are very sporadic, and I have no control over them," Jade pointed out, "I don't feel that requires training."
"It is however your Gift, and it's never led you wrong. How do you explain being able to conduct your interviews on sensitive matters accurately?" Alden pressed, "Especially with people that wouldn't normally tell you the whole truth."
"I just know?" Jade said. "If I have this gift as you say, are you going to force me to go to Weaver's Guild for training? If you've done that much research on me, you know the instances are rare when it's used." Jade said, as she remembered the dream, she had during the Lynx incident. Unfortunately, the look she had on her face while remembering that dream, didn't escape Alden.
"Yes, I do, anything else you want to tell me?" Alden asked, as she remembered the Dream.
Jade sighed and told him everything that happened on the Lynx during the Titan Incident, as well as the dream. Of the scene where the Rogue was serving as Warrior on the ship, and she was trying to keep them from stopping the nightmare she'd seen. Then she told him about how her walks took her to random places. Those places ended up where she needed to be at the time. She admitted to having lucid dreams, but never a dream like that one. In the dream she also remembered being contacted by one of the spirits killing the Weavers. They wanted help, and their freedom.
"Well, that's a lot more than I thought you would tell me," Alden said, taking it all in. "Your dream, leads me to believe that you have a touch of foresight as well. Foresight is more of a psychic gift, and not related to Weaving." Alden paused, before continuing, "Where your walks take you, is probably connected to your empathic gift, as is the impression of feeling from the spirit in the victim's berth."
"Does that mean I have to go to the Weaver's Guild for Training?" Jade asked.
Alden thought for a moment, "Not if you can find a Master to train you in basic shielding, or how to tell when your gift is active. I happen to be a full Master, I also think some training in misdirection, which will keep up the common knowledge of your gift just being hunches."
"You're not going to turn me over to the Guild?" Jade asked surprised.
"No, you're more useful outside of the Guild. Your gifts are closer to Aether training, and not Weaver or Warrior," Alden said, before continuing, "Myself, General Muher, or Taminick will probably train you in misdirection. I am the only one who can try to strengthen your awareness of your gift. You'll also need to learn the meditation techniques that all Weavers learn. They'll keep you centered and calm during times of stress, and they might also help you focus your gift."
"Muher and Taminick are both occupied, after the Stars Plot. Are you sure you've got the time to do this? I mean during the case; you're not going to have a lot of time either," Jade reminded Alden. "They don't want us passing out from lack of sleep, and I'm fairly certain the medical teams will kick us both. Your seniors will drag me off to the Guild after such a thing happened."
"I'll make the time. If your gift gets strong enough, there's a possibility you will be able to project your emotions onto another person. Such an ability is bordering on invading personal space, and could get you locked up," Alden warned, "We'll go over ethics as well, because of that possibility."
Jade sighed, and asked Alden, "I see I have no choice in this," she saw Alden looking at her, waiting for her reply. "When do we start?"
Alden replied, "Now." He started to instruct her on shielding techniques.
Jade was not looking forward to the rest of the day, however, she knew it was better than the alternative. "Bring it on," she said, as the training began.
