It had been a long day of training for Jade, so she decided go to the gardens. No one should be there at this time of day, especially in the section she planned to use. Arriving at the spot in the garden, hidden near a gazebo, she set her phone down on the railing of the gazebo, turning on her playlist. As the music played, she started singing while moving into the martial arts forms that she'd been trained in.
Dean was walking through the gardens, the training for him had been intense under General Muher's critical eye. Sam, was in his berth, reading up on the case, and wanting to do more research about the times they'd ended up in. Dean, however, was restless, and bored at the moment. He was surprised when he'd heard singing in the garden, he didn't think anyone would be here at this time of night. Curious, he followed the source of the voice, and was surprised at its source. It was Jade, and she had a surprisingly good singing voice. He saw her moving through martial arts forms, but she hadn't noticed him yet. Let's see how good you actually are at self-defense. He quickly entered the clearing and grabbed her arm, attempting to restrain her.
Jade, feeling her arm grabbed, saw it was Dean. Not a smart move, I can still sing and kick your backside. She reversed the move, and turned it into a throw that sent him flying. Neither of them noticed they were starting to attract an audience.
General Muher and Taminick entered the gardens, discussing the drone that Jade had requested. It would take some time to complete the modifications that she wanted for the mission, but it wasn't impossible. Sam, had come in behind them while looking for Dean, and Alden had also come into the gardens. Alden, had actually entered the garden to join the meeting with Muher and Taminick. All of them heard the singing, and the sound of something being thrown.
Sam, thinking he recognized the sound of the grunting, as they got closer to the source of the singing, had to stop himself from laughing. He saw Dean on the ground, and Jade who was still singing while waiting for him to pick himself up. "Does anyone sing while doing martial arts around here?"
"No, however, Jade has had this particular habit when she is trying to wind down from a long day," Muher said, with a grin. "That being said, it seems I'm going to have to retrain your brother a bit more tomorrow, Sam."
"He probably saw her doing this, and tried to see how well she could defend herself," Sam said, shaking his head. "Unfortunately, for Dean, she can defend herself very well. I would be surprised if he tries to flirt with her again after this."
"If he does, he has a death wish," Alden said, watching them. "I think she's actually holding back a little bit. Muher, taught her basic, but effective forms for self-defense. If this is her actual skill level, I think she could be trained in higher forms."
"I offered to train her," Muher said, nodding to Alden. "She wasn't interested in anything more than the basics. I did throw in a couple of intermediate forms in her training, because they complimented the basic ones she mastered. Beyond that, she refused further training." During this time, Muher noticed Taminick making herself comfortable, and inconspicuous.
Sam went over, and helped Dean up. Jade had noticed the watchers, so she gave him time to get him up. Grinning at Dean, she paused her music list. "Did that satisfy your curiosity, Dean?"
"Way more than I expected," Dean said, sore from where he'd landed. "You're good, really good. Too bad we didn't have you on our team back in our time."
"He's not wrong, we could have used you," Sam said, in agreement. "You have a very good singing voice, but you've never heard Dean sing."
"History does record you as being an excellent singer," Jade said. "Care to sing us a song, Dean?"
"Only if you sing with me," Dean said, with a wink.
"He's got a death wish, doesn't he?" Alden asked Sam.
"That's my brother," Sam said, with a sigh.
"Normally, I don't do duets, but this one time I will make an exception." Jade said, surprising everyone. "What? Dean didn't do too badly; he deserves some compensation for the damage I inflicted on his pride." This time everyone smiled, seeing that Jade had just fired a verbal shot at Dean.
"Thanks, I think, can you throw on Wayward Son?" Dean asked Jade.
"It's already queued up, and it starts now," she pressed play and the music started.
Dean started to sing, and Jade was impressed. Sam hadn't been lying regarding the quality of his singing voice. At the refrain she joined in, harmonizing her voice with his. It was Dean's turn to be surprised as he sang. They were both getting into the music, unnoticed to both of them, the audience was getting bigger. More of the off-duty residents of the compound, both human, and dragon, were entering the area. They all took seats and watched the performance.
Most of this particular playlist were songs from the 1980s and 1990s, and Dean recognized them. They sung Livin' on a Prayer, Eye of the Tiger, and others. By the time they stopped, because their voices were getting tired, everyone was dancing to the music.
"Thank you, all. I wasn't expecting an audience as big as this, and neither was Dean. We are glad that we could get you up and dancing with our singing," Jade said. "Unfortunately, it has been a long day for both of us, and we do need to get some rest before the new day."
"Thank you for being here tonight," Dean said. "Honestly, I'm glad to see such good music is still popular here. It is very hard to find people to listen to the classics these days. If time allows, perhaps we can perform again for you. That is, if Jade is okay with it."
"I think I could be persuaded to sing with you again. You have a very good voice, as your brother said you did. Thank you for singing with me," Jade said, as the audience started to disperse after giving them one more round of applause.
"You, have some dangerous tricks up your sleeve," Dean said to Jade.
"I hope you learned your lesson," Jade said, stopping her music player, and putting her phone away.
"Yes ma'am," Dean said. "Painfully so, I am still sore from that landing."
"I'm sure I can solve that problem during tomorrow's training, Dean," Muher said with a wicked grin on his face. "The fact that she could lay you out like that, considering how capable you are supposed to be."
"Have fun with that bro," Sam said, with an equally wicked grin. "I am going to be working on the targeting range tomorrow with another one of the corps officers."
Jade went over to Taminick, "Did you enjoy the show?"
Taminick just grinned, winking at Jade. She had definitely enjoyed it, especially how she'd killed Dean's assumptions about her training. Taminick didn't have to say anything to be understood, as long as the person she was addressing paid attention to the signs.
"I'm glad you enjoyed it, you have a good night, my friend," Jade said, with a wink of her own, and left the gardens. It had been a very satisfying evening, she'd made her point to Dean, and brought some fun to the gardens. She never got to perform for an audience like that, and it was a refreshing experience.
The compound went quiet, except for those on duty overnight. The Winchesters and Jade were settled in their berths, getting some rest, before the dawn of a new day.
