Clean Slate

Chapter 23

The beach had a handful of people in it at the most. Lucas spread out a large blanket. Put the cooler to the side. And gazed up at his wife. Who was seated in a colorful chair. Wearing sunglasses. Looking over a copy of B Davis magazine.

"You aren't going to just sit while we're here are you.?" Lucas asked.

"Yes i am. i just want to enjoy these few hours. Without anyone asking for a picture video or autograph." Brooke replied.

Placing down the magazine as she felt the babies kicking.

She took ahold of Lucas's hand and placed it on her baby bump.

Lucas stared in amazement.

"Something about feeling them kick. Makes the reality of them eventually being born so real. I'm in awe of you. How you're handling this whole situation."Lucas stated matter of fact.

"Thank you. I have the countless things i worry about. But i know we'll get through it."

"I love these babies. And I love Eugene too. This family we're building. Means everything to me." Brooke proclaimed. Matter of fact.

Lucas leaned over and kissed her.

Brooke kissed him back.

"I will go into the water. I bought this bathing suit. Brand new."

"Plus the water looks so refreshing." Brooke said. Putting down her magazine. As she got up from the chair and walked over to the water.

Smiling happily. Feeling the water on her skin. While the babies kicked in every direction.

Brooke was done hiding or shielding her body. This was a miracle.

With the man she loved. She was going to celebrate that.

...

"Don't call me that. Why are you here.? What do you want.?"

"You know what. I don't care!" Eugene exclaimed. Turning from her as he started going down the drug store aisles.

Picking up what he came for. Snacks. Drinks. Sunscreen. A camera.

"Eugene will stop. And listen to me. I just want to talk." Rachel insisted.

Eugene ignored her as he paid for the items. Then left the store.

Rachel followed him out into the parking lot.

"I have nothing to say to you. Did you forget the fact that. Being my mom was a burden to you. You never really hid that. You finally got rid of me. Now you're back. Why!" Eugene exclaimed.

"Because i want to apologize. It's you're birthday and you deserve that much." Rachel replied.

"You aren't sorry. Try again." Eugene said. Knowing exactly why she was here.

Rachel had burned her final bridge. Mouth wanted nothing to do with her. He had even changed his cellphone number so she couldn't contact him.

Rachel decided to leave Tree Hill. And stay away. There was nothing left for her here.

Lucas and Brooke were well off money wise and Rachel's plan was to use him for whatever money she could get.

Her career as a model was drying up.

"Goodbye Rachel." Eugene said. Not surprised. She didn't come after him this time.

...

"So we can't hang out together today because you're so busy." One of the teenangers says.

"That's right. I have a life outside of our friend group." Mackenzie announced.

"You're hanging ot with that charity case again right.?" One of the girls asked.

"I've got to go." Mackenzie replied. Making sure her friends left before she did.

...

Mackenzie knew that she was risking alot hanging out with Eugene. I mean her friends hated him. They didn't really know him but that didn't matter.

Being of middle school age in a small town where everyone knows everything. There were certain rules you followed.

Her and Eugene were always in some kind of contact.

What was a girl to do.?

When the two eventually met up.

Mackenzie just went for it. Kissing Eugene right under the bridge.

...

Days Later

Lucas got to his office and found reliquishment of parental rights papers signed by Rachel.
