Power Supreme

AN: Hello there, my dear readers. I hope you're ready for another chapter of Power Supreme. Enjoy!

In Our Lives

"Uh, not that I doubt you, uncle Ethan," Mark said as he floated next to the red-and-white clad superhero. "But are you sure this is a good idea?"

"And what makes you think this is a bad idea?" Supreme said with a teasing smirk.

"Well, things like criminals, villains, meteors, I can pretty much handle," Invincible said before pointing forward. "But how exactly am I supposed to stop a freaking tornado?!"

Indeed, not even half a mile in front of them was a giant tornado, easily in the F5 class just from the looks of it.

Supreme said he had to take Mark somewhere, so Ethan ended up leading him right in the middle of Oklahoma… and right in front of a giant tornado.

Thankfully, the tornado wasn't that close to cause any harm to people, but it could eventually if it wasn't stopped. Yet despite that, Supreme looked completely calm as his red cape heavily flapped because of the strong winds.

"Well, how do you think you can stop it?" Supreme asked.

"All right, um," Invincible stammered before looking back at the tornado and considered his options. Well, he couldn't exactly punch the thing, and flying through it would do no good either. He'd just pass through in every scenario.

So what was left? He didn't have super breath, he couldn't control winds or any fancy power like that.

"Uh, sorry, but I got nothing," Mark said as he looked back at Ethan. "I'm honestly not sure what I can do. So could you please stop this before it gets out of hand?!"

And to his surprise, Supreme didn't look frustrated or disappointed in any way. He just nodded in understanding.

"I honestly didn't expect you to get it immediately," Supreme said. "But I wanted to see if you could come up with a solution. But don't blame yourself. Here, I'll show you what you can do."

Supreme then turned into a red and white blur that entered the tornado, making Invincible look curiously. Then there was a giant thunderclap heard, and immediately after, the entire tornado dispersed.

Invincible almost felt his jaw drop on the ground when he saw Supreme floating where the tornado was previously with his hands clasped in front of him in a clapping position.

Flying over, Supreme was now in front of Mark with his hands crossed and a smile on his face. "See, that's one way of dealing with it."

"Okay," Invincible said as he scratched his head. "That was… I mean, I saw a lot of crazy things, but even I didn't see my dad dealing with a tornado before. Also, there are more ways with dealing with that."

Supreme nodded. "Of course," he said before bringing his gloved index finger up and moving it in a circular motion. "You can fly around the tornado at great speeds, but in an opposite direction of the winds, and thus neutralize it. Another way is going inside the tornado and spin yourself around, in the opposite direction as well, and it will have a similar effect."

"Ah, I see," Invincible said. "I gotta admit, you're pretty creative with your powers."

"Well, I guess it comes with the territory when you've had seventy years to practice your powers."

Invincible chuckled. "Man, I always forget you're older than you look," he said. "Though, it's a shame there isn't another tornado around. I'd really like to try out some of the methods you've shown me."

"Oh, that won't be a problem," Supreme said before zipping away to the previous position of the tornado he dispersed before Mark could ask what he meant. Then he spun around at great speeds, picking up winds around him until yet another tornado appeared. not as large as the previous one but still pretty big.

Supreme once again appeared next to Invincible. "Okay, now try it."

"Uh," Mark mumbled as he cast glances between Supreme and the newly made tornado. "Right, uh… Which method should I use?"

"That's up to you," Supreme said, gesturing towards the tornado. "Pick whichever you want."

"Whichever I want. Got it," Invincible said before taking a breath. He honestly wasn't sure which one would be the best, at least Supreme didn't mention which was, so he'd just have to make a choice on his own.

And after thinking of it for several moments, he made a decision. Invincible clenched his fists before pushing them forward and flying right into the tornado. He stopped himself just in time where he was in the middle of it, and he looked around the inside of it for a bit.

"Okay, here goes nothing," Invincible said before taking a breath and putting his fists to his sides. He then focused on spinning in place, making sure he was going in the opposite direction of the winds just like Supreme said.

So his spinning became faster. And faster. And faster! Mark gritted his teeth as he felt himself spinning around within the tornado.

Outside, Supreme watched as the tornado slowly disappeared, and Mark spinning inside it. Once it disappeared completely, Mark stopped himself. And immediately began fumbling in the air while his hands awkwardly waved.

Letting out a small chuckle, Supreme flew over and grabbed Invincible by the shoulder so he stopped moving around. "How are you feeling?"

Invincible shook his head to get rid of the dizziness. "Like my brain has been scrambled."

"Trust me, it gets better over time. And I have to admit, that was a pretty good job you did."

Invincible rubbed the side of his head as he smiled. "Thanks, uncle Ethan. Means a lot."

The two of them soon began flying towards Mark's home, both of them satisfied with the results. Supreme was happy to see Mark was doing so well, and Invincible felt happy that he could spend his time like this with Supreme.

It reminded him of the time when he just got his powers and he was training with… his dad.

"So, Mark," Supreme began. "I heard that you're going by the name 'Invincible' as a superhero."

Invincible sighed. "Yeah, I know. That's a very optimistic name. People told me before."

Supreme chuckled at that. "Sorry, sorry. It's not that I find this funny, it's just that you reminded me of something that happened some time ago. Just a little while after your dad officially became a superhero."

Ethan Crane sat on a couch in his apartment, calmly sipping coffee and watching the news.

Then a sudden emergency broadcast came up, and it showed a floating alien with blue skin dressed in a green bodysuit with red markings all over it. He was also holding a big brown technological hammer in his hand.

"I am Dominex!" the alien proclaimed. "Bring me your greatest champion so that I may best him in physical combat! If no one appears before me, I will lay waste to this pitiful planet!"

Ethan's eyes narrowed before he changed into his costume in a blink of an eye.

Supreme opened his window and flew over to where Dominex was located. Which was thankfully a bit further from civilization.

As he flew, Supreme was surprised to see two more people in front of him flying that way. One of them he recognized as Omni-Man. Another man with short black hair sporting a blue cape and a red bodysuit with golden-orange bracelet-like gauntlets and belt, as well as yellow boots and a big yellow 'D' on his chest. He was the main hero of Tower City, and one of the most powerful heroes ever, Captain Dynamo.

"Hey, Omni-Man!" Dynamo called out as he saw Omni-Man fly past him.

Omni-Man noticed him. "Oh, Captain Dynamo. I didn't see you there. Where are you headed?"

"What do you think? I'm responding to the challenge issued by this alien invader," Dynamo answered.

"Really?" Omni-Man said with a raised eyebrow. "But he said he wants the Earth's champion."

"Well, yeah. That's me."

Omni-Man narrowed his eyes. "Like hell it is."

"Well, it certainly not you. You're an alien," Dynamo said annoyed.

"So?"

Dynamo rolled his eyes. "So this guy wants to face Earth's champion. You can't be the Earth's champion if you're not even from Earth."

"Says who?"

Supreme groan in annoyance as he listened to the two bicker, so he decided to fly over to them.

"Are you two done?"

"Supreme?!" Captain Dynamo and Omni-Man said at the same time.

"And what are you doing here?" Omni-Man asked.

"Looks like it's for the same thing that you two are," Supreme answered.

"And you think that you're qualified to be the Earth's champion?" Dynamo asked.

"If I'm being honest, I think that I am," Supreme said.

Dynamo scoffed "Yeah, right."

"Are you girls done with your argument?"

Omni-Man and Supreme heard Cecil's voice in their earpieces.

Captain Dynamo seemed to hear something similar as he put his finger to his own ear. "Yes, Maddie?"

"All right, you two, listen up," Cecil began. "Maddie Warner from F.L.A.G. is here, and our departments are teaming up to see if we can get any intel on Dominex. Because right now, we have nothing. You three will now work together against him, so please try not to knock each other out of the sky."

Supreme and Omni-Man nodded while Captain Dynamo gave confirming 'Fine.' in his earpiece.

"So, now we're a team," Supreme said. "But let me be in the lead. I'll test Dominex out."

"Oh? And why you?" Dynamo asked.

"Somebody has to gage him, and I might as well take the first blow," Supreme explained as he flew in front of the two. Though despite that, he was still confident in his abilities to fight against this alien invader.

Speaking of, they just arrived at Dominex's location who held a large grin on his face as he saw them approach.

"At last, someone approaches," Dominex said. "I was honestly thinking I would have to make good on my threat to decimate this planet. Tell me, white-haired one, what are you called?"

"I couldn't just sit back and let you threaten our planet," Supreme said. "As for who I am… I am Supreme!"

Supreme closed the distance between them but was caught off guard as Dominex's arm moved at incredible speeds and backhanded him across the face.

"That's a rather optimistic name, isn't it?" Dominex said with a large grin.

Omni-Man and Captain Dynamo looked in shock as Supreme passed them. And with a loud crash, Supreme found himself embedded into the side of a mountain.

Supreme groaned and rubbed his jaw.

"Supreme, are you all right?!" Cecil's voice rang in his ear.

"I'm fine. But damn, this guy hits hard."

"Well, get back there! If Dominex could do that to you, then those two are also in a pickle!"

"Right," Supreme said before quickly flying back to Dominex as began engaging Omni-Man and Captain Dynamo.

"Really?" Invincible said. "So your name also got criticized?"

"Oh yeah," Supreme answered. "So trust me when I say that I have no right to judge."

"Well, I guess everyone's a critic," Invincible said. "So how did that fight against the Dominex dude go?"

"Well, me, Nolan, and William fought him for hours on end. Dominex was definitely incredibly tough. But we defeated him and he teleported back to his homeworld."

"Ah, cool. I honestly shouldn't be surprised. I mean you're you, my dad isn't a slouch, and from what I've seen of Captain Dynamo, he was a pretty tough guy, too."

"Yeah, he indeed was," Supreme said before getting a bit sour look on his face.

Invincible noticed and decided to change the topic. "Say, uncle Ethan, how about a little race?"

Supreme raised a brow. "Race?"

"Yeah. Last one to home gets trash duty for a month!" The moment he said that, Invincible sped off with several sonic booms in his wake.

"Hey!" Supreme said before increasing his speed and going after Invincible.

Seeing Supreme on his heels, Invincible increased his speed and smirked when he saw the increased distance between them.

Less than a minute later, Invincible soon found himself landing near his house. He opened the back door and took off his mask.

"Man, that was really-"

Mark halted when he saw something that shocked him. Sitting at the main table was Ethan, fully clothed in his civilian garb and sipping on a latte.

"Oh, hey Mark," Ethan said. "What took you so long?"

A frown marred Mark's face. "That was a jerkish move."

"Says the kid who tried to pull a fast one on me," Ethan said as he finished his latte and threw the plastic cup into the trash. "Say, where's Debbie?

"Mom? Well, I think I heard her say that she was gonna visit Art this afternoon," Mark explained.

"Oh, Art's still around? That's great to hear," Ethan said.

"Wait, you know-" Mark began before stopping himself by giving his forehead a small tap. "Right, right, of course you do. I'm the only one who was oblivious about all of this."

"Well, in any case, tell your mom I said 'hi'. I have to get going."

"Really? Where exactly?"

"To get my old job back," Ethan said with a smile. "I mean, you do want me to work on Seance Dog again, don't you?"

Mark's eyes lit up. "Really? You're going back to drawing Seance Dog? Man, that's awesome!"

Ethan chuckled. "Glad to hear you're excited. I mean, no offense to Philip Schaff, but there are way too many repeated panels in those comics."

"I dunno," Mark said with a shrug. "I think they are pretty good for dramatic pauses."

"And saving time from the looks of it," Ethan said. "Well, I better get going. Hopefully, they'll take me back after ten years."

"They'd be idiots not to," Mark commented.

Ethan nodded before passing Mark and opening the door. But then stopped himself for a second before looking back.

"You know, I still can't believe that seven-year-old kid I last saw grew up into such a fine young man," Ethan said making Mark stare at him. "I'm happy to see you turned out. You are a true superhero. See ya later."

And with a burst of speed, he was gone, leaving Mark to stare at that spot for a moment before smiling.

"See ya later, Uncle Ethan."

Ethan stood in front of the Dazzle Comics building, seeing that it didn't change much after ten years. The logo was one thing that was different. Before, it had the name Dazzle Comics in a special font and circled by stars, but now the purple logo looked more simplified with the font and it had just a circle around it. If Ethan was honest, it was a bit of a downgrade.

When he first arrived back in Omegapolis, he tried to look for his old apartment, but of course, somebody else had taken it, so he had found a new one, which was actually pretty close to his workplace.

With a small breath, he walked through the glass door of the building and breathed in the air of the building, smiling to see it still felt the same. He talked to the secretary about his appointment with the current head of Dazzle Comics.

His gaze turned to the end of the hall, and there he saw the statue of one of Dazzle Comics' flagship characters, Omniman. Indeed, before Nolan took his superhero name after finding out about the comics, Omniman was only a fictional character made by Scheimer and Schuller back in 1938, and one of the most enduring characters for the company.

The statue stood tall, with his red cape that was held with a circular clasp on the right side of his chest, looking like an 'O', and he was dressed in a blue bodysuit with gloves and boots that were yellow with a white outline, along with a yellow belt.

To say that Ethan was inspired by the fictional hero would be an understatement.

It was a curious situation, having real-life superheroes and then also having some as fictional characters, but the situation never got complicated, thankfully.

It did get a bit complicated when Nolan took the name Omni-Man, but nobody wanted to sue a real-life superhero as he was indeed just doing a good deed. So for legal reasons he got a different costume, with honestly the only similarity being the red cape, and added a hyphen to his name for trademark reasons.

Ethan shook his head. He didn't need his mind wandering now. Approaching the elevator, he pressed the button for the top floor and patiently waited. After it stopped, Ethan began walking through the hallway, seeing several encased posters along the way. They seemed to be movie or TV show posters. He guessed it's only natural some were made in his absence. Though, he raised an eyebrow at one of them as it was of a character he had never seen before. It was of a long-haired young woman of African descent dressed in a sort of a yellow and black suit, the title below reading 'Nami'.

Reaching the door at the end of the hallway, he gave it a knock after which he heard someone grumble.

"Yes, yes, come in," said an all-familiar voice to Ethan.

Opening the door, Ethan saw a familiar man sitting behind an office desk. He was on the heavier side, with gray hair, which only seemed natural considering he should be in his seventies. He was dressed in a beige buttoned shirt, a black vest, and jeans. He seemed to have a natural gruff face as he held a smoking cigar in his mouth. This man was Lucas Tate, his old boss, and friend.

The man's expression then brightened when he saw Ethan enter.

"Well, if my old eyes aren't deceiving me!" Lucas said as he rose from his chair. "I haven't seen you in a decade! Junior, how've you been?"

"Nice to see you as well, mister Tate," Ethan said.

"Oh stop with the whole 'mister Tate' nonsense already," Lucas said. "My old man didn't like to be called that, and trust me, I do even less."

"Oh, sorry, Lucas," Ethan said while scratching his head, adding to his mild-mannered appearance. "I guess old habits die hard."

"Heh, your dad taught you to be too polite," Lucas commented. "But enough about that. I assume you're here because you want your old job back?"

Ethan nodded. "Yes, if you would have me."

"Ah, excellent! You have no idea how happy I am to hear it. Honestly, I'm glad to have someone of your talents back. That's desperately needed these days."

"Come on, sir. It can't be that bad."

Lucas put his cigar in the tray, and put his hand behind his back, something pretty much every dubbed Lucas' 'I'm gonna tell you a story pose'.

"You know, Junior, when your father, God rest his soul, entered through that door right there, with you right next to him, he told me 'Lucas, my kid will knock your socks off with his art.'"

"Yeah, I remember," Ethan said.

That wasn't his actual father of course. After working for decades at Dazzle Comics and constantly having to apply make-up to make himself appear older was bothersome, so he decided to take a new identity as Ethan Crane's 'son', Ethan Crane Jr., which is why Lucas called him Junior. His 'father' was just S-1 in disguise during that meeting. And sometime later, his 'father' suffered a heart attack and 'passed away'.

He honestly felt a bit bad for the deception, but he had to if he wanted to keep this life.

"At first, I honestly didn't believe him," Lucas continued. "I've seen sons not live up to their fathers' legacies. I mean, look at me. Do I look like I run a successful construction company? But the moment I've seen you put pen to paper, all my doubts were washed away.

"Say, you remember what your dad's last work was for us?"

Ethan nodded "Yes, it was the Death of Omniman annual."

"And even after decades working here, that was his best work yet. And you, my dear boy, kept the same level of quality during the ten years you've worked here. None of the artists here are as good as your dad, much less you. So yes, I can safely say your return is a true blessing to this company," Lucas said before putting his hand forward. "So welcome back to Dazzle Comics."

Ethan shook his hand. "Thank you, sir. I won't disappoint."

"I know you won't."

"Though I am curious," Ethan said. "I saw a poster of this character, Nami. Is she a new character?"

"Ah, that," Lucas said, not looking as happy as before. "That's actually Bendis' more recent creation."

Ethan blinked. "Wait, Bendis? I thought he worked for Miracle Comics."

"Oh, he did. But he transferred here a few years back. We made quite a big deal out of it as we gave him Omniman's book, though it wasn't all that well-received with all the changes he made to the mythos," Lucas explained. "As for Nami, her comic was created so it could be turned into a TV show."

"He made a comic… just so he could make it a TV series? That… doesn't seem smart."

"Well, apparently it wasn't considering the show was canceled after the first season."

"Uh, right," Ethan said before deciding to change the topic. "So on what title will I work? I was kinda hoping I could work on Seance Dog again."

"Ah, Seance Dog. Even I'm surprised with how well that book is doing," Lucas said. "I think I can arrange that, but first I think you should work a bit on the Omniman title. The current writer, Diana Dane, is excellent on the title and I think you two would make a perfect duo for it."

"Really? Well, I don't really see any problem with it. I'll be happy to work on Omniman again."

Lucas grinned widely. "Splendid!" he exclaimed before seating himself in his chair and picking up his phone. "I'm gonna make a few calls first. Just to inform people you're back."

Ethan smiled and nodded. It looked like he was slowly getting his old life back together. Though it also looked like Mark would have to wait a bit before Ethan could work on Seance Dog again.

AN: And that's it for now, my dear readers. Mostly character interaction in this one, but I hope you enjoyed it. Though I probably spent a bit too much time on the last part, but hey.

Also, I implore you to check out my other stories. Trust me, they are worth it. And leave a review, they are great motivators.

See you next time!
