Night had fallen on the camp and after performing the cleanup task caused by 'Ping' and his friends, the men went to their tents to sleep for the next day when they would begin training.
Because of Mulan's gender situation, she didn't want to be near the men while she slept for fear that they would enter her tent unannounced and discover her. So, she decided to set up her tent far enough away from the camp so she wouldn't get caught and close enough so she wouldn't be late for anything.
Once the tent was pitched, Mulan went inside, took off her man's disguise and prepared to sleep.
"All right, guys, we know the first day hasn't been the best..." said Mushu.
"And who was to blame for that?" asked Cera.
"As I was saying, it hasn't been the best, but tomorrow, I'm sure things will change." said Mushu.
"Yes, tomorrow is training, and I can't imagine how hard it will be." said Mulan.
"Don't worry, Mulan. We'll be by your side every step of the way." said Littlefoot.
"After all, we came to join the army with you." said Chomper.
"Really, kids, thank you. I don't know what I'd do without you." said Mulan with a grateful smile.
"That's what friends are for, right?" asked Ducky as Spike nodded.
"Okay, you're her friends, but I'm her guardian. Don't forget that." said Mushu.
"We know that, Mushu and that's why we will need your help too because we know you are Mulan's guardian." said Ruby.
"*Yawn* As much as I'd like to have a chat between friends, it's time for bed." said Mulan.
"Yeah, tomorrow rough day." said Petrie.
"Oh, don't worry. She'll be able to handle it, she just has to stand firm and tough in front of those men and she'll not only complete the training, but she'll also fit right in among them." said Mushu with a smile.
Mulan lay down to sleep, but then, she opened her eyes as she felt something pressing against her side and turned to see Littlefoot sleeping next to her. The young woman let out a smile before closing her eyes to sleep, happy to have such faithful friends.
"Indeed. How young people are these days." said Mushu with a smile before blowing out the candle.
The next morning, everyone was sleeping peacefully in the tent, until suddenly Mushu picked up the cricket, twirled his wings like a wind-up toy and put him close to Mulan before he began to shake and ring like an alarm clock, causing everyone to start waking up.
"All right, rise and shine, Sleeping Beauties! C'mon, hup, hup, hup!" said Mushu tapping Mulan's head to wake her up at all.
"Ugh. Isn't it a little early to be up?" asked Chomper.
"Maybe time for humans wake up." said Petrie.
"Well, some of us aren't awake enough. No, no, no." said Ducky pointing to Spike, who was still sleeping despite the noise.
"Neither am I." said Mulan pulling the covers over herself to try to get some more sleep, but Mushu tugged at them to get them off altogether.
"Get your clothes on, get ready! Got breakfast ready." said Mushu before standing in front of the young woman with a pink apron and a bowl of food. "Look, you get porridge! And it's happy to see you!" said Mushu showing that in the bowl was porridge with a couple of eggs as eyes and a strip of bacon as a smile. Suddenly, the cricket came out from inside the porridge. "Hey, get out of there! You're gonna make people sick!" said Mushu pulling the cricket out of the porridge.
"Am I late?" asked Mulan before Mushu started shoving the food into her mouth.
"No time to talk. Now, remember, it's your first day of training, so listen to your teacher and no fighting, play nice with the other kids, unless, of course, the other kids want to fight, then you gotta kick the other kid's butt." said Mushu shoving the food into Mulan's mouth as he spoke as if he were a mother taking her child to school.
"I didn't think I would say this, but I like that last piece of advice." said Cera.
"But I don't want to kick the other kids' butts." said Mulan with her mouth full.
"Don't talk with your mouth full. Now let's see your war face." said Mushu.
Mulan tried to put on a tough face, but with a mouth full of food it was impossible.
"Eh… I don't think that would scare even a bug." said Ruby.
"Yes, I agree with the girl. C'mon, scare me, girl!" demanded Mushu throwing down the bowl and grabbing the collar of the young woman's shirt.
Finally, Mulan let out a roar as she pulled the dragon back.
"That's my tough looking warrior! That's what I'm talking about! Now, get out there and make me proud!" said Mushu tying up the young woman's hair.
"We trust you, Mulan. We know you can do it." Littlefoot said with a smile that Mulan returned.
It was then that they heard Khan let out some horse sounds, as if he was saying something.
"What do you mean, the troops just left?" asked Mushu understanding what the horse said as the young woman began to dress.
"They what?" asked Mulan in surprise.
In her haste, Mulan ended up unpacking the tent as she dressed and ran off towards the camp.
"Wait, you forgot your sword!" said Mushu running a little as he carried the sword.
"Good luck, Mulan!" said Littlefoot wishing his friend luck, who waved her hand in thanks as she ran.
"My little baby, off to destroy people." said Mushu sadly and proudly, much to the confusion of the gang.
Meanwhile, in the camp, the men were fooling around while Chi-Fu walked by calmly and serenely.
"Order! People, order!" said Chi-Fu trying to shush everyone.
"I'd like a pan-fried noodle!" said one man.
"Sweet and pungent shrimp." said Chien Po, the fat man.
"That's not funny." said Chi-Fu catching the joke as the men laughed and went back to their business.
That's when Ling noticed something and slapped Yao to get his attention.
"Looks like our new friend slept in this morning." said Ling as Mulan approached them very nervously as they all remembered what happened the day before. "Why, hello, Ping, Are ya hungry?" asked Ling with a mischievous smile.
"Yeah, cause I owe you a knuckle sandwich." said Yao grabbing Mulan by the collar of her shirt and preparing his fist to strike.
But just as the fist came within an inch of his face.
"Soldiers!" called Shang managing to avoid another possible fight and getting everyone's attention.
Noticing his arrival, they all moved into position and into line.
"You will assemble swiftly and silently, every morning." said Shang taking off his shirt and laying it on a barrel full of Bo staffs as he picked up a bow and arrow. "Anyone who does otherwise, will answer to me." said Shang as he walked past the line of soldiers.
"Ooh, tough guy." said Yao.
"Yao." began Shang preparing the bow and arrow, aiming at the short man. In the next instant, everyone else took a step back so as not to suffer the short man's punishment. Fortunately, Shang changed the direction of the arrow and shot it upwards, causing it to stick into the top of a huge wooden pole. "Thank you for volunteering. Retrieve the arrow." said Shang with a smile.
Yao cracked his knuckles with a frustrated frown.
"I'll get that arrow, pretty boy, and I'll do it with my shirt on." said Yao making his way to the pole.
Once standing in front, he prepared to climb the pole when...
"One moment." said Shang stopping the short man as Chi-Fu arrived carrying a very heavy box. "You seem to be missing something." said Shang opening the box and pulling out the contents, revealing them to be two stone discs with straps. "This represents discipline." said Shang placing one of the straps on one of Yao's wrists, lifting the disk and then releasing it, causing him to tilt to one side. "And this represents strength." said Shang placing the other strap on the other wrist and lifting it up before releasing it, causing Yao to fall to the ground altogether, showing that they were very heavy. "You need both to reach the arrow." said Shang.
Despite his earlier confidence, the fact that he would have to carry such heavy disks so high up made him a little nervous, but he cast those nerves aside and proceeded to climb the pole, but soon after, he began to descend. He tried to hold on with his teeth, but he kept going down as his teeth left a trail in his wake.
Ling tried but ended up falling in such a way that his head hit the pole before he fell to the ground.
When Chien Po tried and fell, his weight caused the pole to rise a little off the ground.
Mulan also tried, but also fell on her butt on the ground, and when she got back in line, she was rubbing her butt from the pain.
Off to the side of everything, the gang, Mushu and cricket were watching it all.
"I guess this isn't going to be as easy as we thought." said Littlefoot.
"We've got a long way to go." said Shang before grabbing a handful of staffs and tossing them into the air.
Each of the men caught their own, but when Mulan was about to catch hers, Yao snatched it from her and used it to make her stumble and fall to the ground before handing her the staff as he acted innocently.
Shang
Let's get down to business.
Shang used his staff to grab two nearby vases and throw them into the air, to everyone's surprise.
To defeat…
Then, before they hit the ground, Shang quickly smashed them to pieces with his staff
the Huns.
All the recruits got ready to train.
Did they send me daughters?
While no one was looking, Ling tucked a bug inside Mulan's shirt.
when I asked for sons.
That made Mulan start moving like crazy and hit everyone around her. Mushu slapped his face in frustration at how things were going.
You're the saddest
bunch I ever met,
Shang used his staff as a pole vault to launch himself towards Mulan.
but you can bet
before we're through
Just as Mulan calmed down, Shang took the staff from her.
Mister,
I'll make a man
Mushu and Cera tried to go to teach the captain a lesson, but the cricket and the others grabbed them to stop them.
out of you.
Later, they were in a practice in which they had to hit an arrow into a target while simultaneously sticking it into a ball-shaped bag. But while Shang was able to do it with three arrows at the same time.
Tranquil as a forest,
The other recruits were able neither to hit the bull's-eye nor to stick the arrow in the bag.
but on fire within.
Mushu even got as far as sticking the bag in the arrow before it went off, but Shang caught her, and she gave him a nervous smile.
They then proceeded with a training session on the edge of a cliff, where Shang had a staff and a bucket full of water over his head.
Once you find your center,
Several recruits threw rocks at him, but Shang was able to block them with the staff without spilling any of the water in the bucket.
you are sure to win.
Unfortunately, Mulan was having a hard time keeping the bucket balanced on her head and to make matters worse, the ones who were going to throw rocks at her were Yao, Ling and Chien Po.
You're a spineless, pale, pathetic lot
When they were thrown at her, Mulan ducked her head, causing the bucket to fall on her head and spill all the water as she wildly waved her staff. Although she did get to hit a stone, but she knew that wasn't enough.
and you haven't got a clue.
Then they went to a river where the exercise consisted of catching fish with your hands quickly, as Shang demonstrated in one move.
Somehow, I'll make a man out of you.
Mulan and Yao tried, but Mulan ended up catching Yao's foot by mistake, throwing him into the water and, with a nervous smile, stuck his foot in the water as well. Soon after, Mushu arrived with a stick acting as a snorkel and a fish he had caught.
Afterwards, Chien Po, Yao, Cera, Ducky, Petrie and Spike were seen running through an area where they were shooting flaming arrows and needless to say, they were having a hard time dodging them.
Chien Po
I'm never gonna catch my breath.
During the exercise, Yao tripped, and a flaming arrow hit his butt, making him scream in pain as he jumped up and down.
Yao
Say good-bye to those who knew me.
Ling was then seen with Chomper and Ruby in an area where there was a stone block that the skinny man had to break with his head.
Ling
Boy I was a fool in school for cutting gym.
But when he tried, he ended up breaking a few teeth before fainting.
Afterwards, Mulan was seen having a little fight with Shang. She tried to defend herself and dodge, but, in the end, the captain hit her so hard that he sent her rolling into a tree where Mushu, the cricket and Littlefoot were standing.
Mushu
This guy's got 'em scared to death.
Cricket fanned her with a leaf while Littlefoot splashed some water on her face.
Mulan
I hope he doesn't see right through me.
After preparing her, Mushu pushed her back to training.
Later, Chien Po, Ducky and Spike were seen doing an exercise in which they had to walk on poles in a river.
Chien Po
Now I really wish that I knew how to swim.
Unfortunately, Chien Po ended up stopping on a pole, causing the two dinosaurs, the captain and others behind to stop while Petrie flew by them.
They then began an exercise in which they were to fire missiles at a Shan Yu dummy acting as a target.
Chorus
Be a man.
Shang
We must be swift as a coursing river.
But none of the missiles they fired hit the target. Not even close to the range of the target.
Chorus
Be a man.
Shang
With all the force of a great typhoon.
Whistling slyly, Ling caused the mount for Mulan's missile to fall just as she lit the fuse. Quickly, she and Petrie grabbed the missile before it fell, but the missile shot upward and got scorched in the process.
Chorus
Be a man.
Shang
With all the strength of a raging fire
Unfortunately, the missile ended up falling directly into Chi-Fu's tent, destroying it in the process. Although he was outside at the time, he ended up a bit scorched by the resulting explosion.
mysterious as the dark side of the moon.
In one night, Shang saw that none of them dared to try to retrieve the arrow, which made him frustrated.
The next day, they were all riding along a mountain walk (except Chi-Fu, who was on horseback) while carrying a staff carrying two heavy sacks.
Time is racing t'ward us.
During the walk, Chi-Fu pointed behind them, where Shang saw Mulan, with the gang beside her, having difficulty carrying her load, so much so that she ended up falling to the ground.
Till the Huns arrive.
The gang and Mushu tried to get her to get up, but she was too tired. Mushu had to hide quickly when Shang arrived and picked up Mulan's burden to carry it along with his own.
Heed my every order.
And you might survive.
Mulan felt disappointed in herself, as she had joined the army to save her father, but it would be of no use if she wasn't going to be able to keep up with the others.
Later that night, Mulan and the gang were on their way to their tent when...
You're unsuited for the rage of war.
So pack up, go home, you're through.
At the captain's words, Mulan felt he was right and was about to give up and go home. The gang didn't want her to give up easily. There had to be something that could convince Mulan to go on.
It was then, when Mulan saw the pole with the arrow.
How could I make a man out of you?
Mulan put the disks on and tried to climb the pole but fell off in the first second. But then, when she saw the disc straps, an idea formed in her head.
Chorus
Be a man.
Shang
We must be swift as a coursing river.
Tangling the disc straps together on the other side of the pole, Mulan used that as her own leash and began to climb the pole.
Chorus
Be a man.
Shang
With all the force of a great typhoon.
By the time she was more than halfway up, all the recruits had gathered outside to contemplate something that so far no one had achieved.
Chorus
Be a man.
Shang
With all the strength of a raging fire
At that moment, Shang stepped out of his tent and the next moment, the arrow he stuck in the pole fell in front of him.
mysterious as the dark side of the moon!
Looking ahead, he saw Mulan at the top of the pole as the recruits and the gang congratulated her on her achievement. Sitting atop the pole, Mulan gave the captain a smile.
Because of what she did, things began to change.
To begin with, they were all able to hit the arrow on the bull's-eye at the same time as they stuck it in a bag.
Mulan was then seen running with the gang as she carried a staff that held two heavy bags and leaving the other men behind.
Chorus
Be a man.
Shang
We must be swift as a coursing river.
Afterwards, Shang and Mulan had another fight, in which Mulan was able to defend and dodge before giving the captain a roundhouse kick that knocked him down and despite, he was smiling with pride, for his training was working.
Chorus
Be a man.
Shang
With all the force of a great typhoon.
In the river pole area, Chien Po could be seen moving from pole to pole with leaps, he even leaned on one with his hand, behind him, he was followed by Ducky, Spike and other recruits.
Chorus
Be a man.
Once, again, Shang tossed them a handful of staffs and again, Yao caught Mulan's before her, but this time, he handed it to her with a smile.
Shang
With all the strength of a raging fire
In the area of the flaming arrows, Yao and Cera could be seen running smoothly and with a smile through the area, dodging all the arrows.
mysterious as…
In the stone block area, Ling and other recruits, along with Chomper and Ruby, each stood in front of a stone block and all of them smashed them with a headbutt.
the dark side of…
In the river, Mulan and Littlefoot were able to pull out several fish.
the moon!
And finally, they fired a missile that hit the doll directly.
By the time the song ended, all the recruits were in the air in fighting position.
