Chapter 32: Alienated

Blue Jay's POV
Me, Nightwing, Green Lantern, Captain Atom, Wonder Woman and Eduardo Dorado Sr. stood waiting as the Zeta Squad returned to us.
"Recognised: Adam Strange, A-1-1."the computer announced. "Miss Martian, 5-0-5. Superboy, 5-0-4. Beast Boy, 5-1-9."
"Nightwing! Blue Jay!"Beast Boy remarked as he rushed forward holding what a appeared to be some kind of black belt. "Check out my super-cool alien souvenir."
I smiled as Miss Martian placed a hand on Beast Boy, reminding him of the mission at hand.
"Gar."Miss Martian reminded. "Business first."
"Noted."Beast Boy answered.
"Zeta Squad, report."Nightwing ordered.
"Our mission to neutralize the Krolotean's Zeta-Platforms on Rann was a success."Miss Martian declared.
"I've brought back specs to create a Zeta-Shield...to prevent any more aliens from beaming to Earth from off-world."Eduardo stated.
Eduardo pressed a button of the small remote he was holding, revealing a big hologram of Earth to us.
"How will that affect our own Zeta-capabilities?"Captain Atom questioned.
"It won't."Eduaro assured. "The Shield will activate at an altitude above the Watchtower's orbit. League Zeta-Tubes will still function normally."
"Tell them about Rimbor."Beast Boy reminded, looking at Miss Martian. "Tell them about the 16 hours."
Green Lantern and Wonder Woman tenses up a bit at Beast Boy's reply.
"It may be easier to show you."Miss Martian stated.
Miss Martian then used her powers to reveal what she had discovered about the Kroloteans' attacks on Earth.
"I successfully interrogated a Krolotean general on Rann, who had paid off a member of the Rannian Science Command to allow the Kroloteans to land a secret base in the Rannian jungle."Miss Martian reported. "Once there, the Kroloteans stole Zeta-Platform technology from Adam Strange's friend, Sardath. They landed another ship in New Orleans...and used the Zeta-Platforms to beam a few hundred Kroloteans to Earth. They built more platforms, brought in more Kroloteans...and began abducting and replacing humans."
Miss Martian stopped using her powers to speak to us normally.
"Perhaps as part of an invasion strategy, though that's still unclear."Miss Martian commented.
"But why Earth?"Captain Atom asked.
"And what does any of this have to do with the 16 hours?"Wonder Woman questioned.
Miss Martian once again spoke telepathically to reveal the reason why six leaguers went missing five years ago for 16 hours.
"Well, as you know five years ago, Vandal Savage placed the entire League under his control."Miss Martian commented. "Six leaguers: Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Martian Manhunter, Green Lantern and Hawkwoman went missing for a full 16 hours. It turns out you were teleported to a planet called Rimbor, where you spent 16 hours on a rampage... attacking everyone and everything in sight... and announcing in several alien languages that you were the Justice League from Earth and that the rest of the galaxy should beware."
Miss Martian's eyes stopped glowing as she looked at Green Lantern and Wonder Woman.
"That's why the Kroloteans came."Miss Martian said. "The League itself brought Earth to their attention."
"I don't know what to say."Wonder Woman responded in silent shock. "I have no memories of this. None."
"Don't blame yourself. Blame Savage and his Light."Captain Atom reminded and looked at Green Lantern. "But John, how is it that you haven't heard about this intergalactic incident'?"
"No clue. Rimbor's not a planet in my sector."Green Lanter informer. "But I'll head to Oa immediately, to consult with the Guardians of the Universe and the rest of the Green Lantern Corps. We'll get to the bottom of this, Cap. I promise."
"In the meantime...we still have a Krolotean invasion force to track down on Earth."Captain Atom responded and looked at Miss Martian. "You did good work on Rann. Now we need you...at the Hall of Justice."
South Pacific

Blue Jay's POV
A few hours later, Nightwing and I met up with the Bat Team to head to Malina Island on the Bio-Ship.
Nightwing drove the ship while me, Batman, Robin and Batgirl were seated at the back.
Aquaman and Lagoon Boy held on the straphangers on the ship as Batman goes over the plan with all of us.
"Remember, this is primarily a recon mission."Batman instructed. "We wanna discover all we can about the Kroloteans' invasion strategy before we shut them down and deliver them to the Green Lantern Corps."
I typed on my mini laptop as we headed to our destination.
We needed to learn more about the Kroloteans before handing them over to the Green Lantern Corps.
But why do I have a bad feeling about this all the sudden?
"Approaching drop-zone Beta."Nightwing declared.
On their cue, Aquaman and Lagoon Boy jump from the ship and make their way to the main gate under the water level.
They pry them open without much effort.
"Drop-zone, Gamma."Nightwing announced.
Me, Nightwing, Robin, Batgirl and Batman disembark on the third drop-zone, near another entrance.
We took out the guards with ease before we separated to head inside the Kroloteans' base.
Inside the island, we saw the Kroloteans' continue their work on their spaceship.
However, we were discovered and immediately sprung into action.
I quickly kicked and punched the guards that were trying to shoot Robin with their blasters.
"Thanks, Jay!"Robin thanked.
I smirked. "No problem."
Robin then activated his electric staff to hit the approaching guards while I threw my batarangs at the ones coming at the right.
Aquaman and Lagoon Boy jump from the water to overpower their attackers.
The Kroloteans order the Mechs into battle, but me and the Bat family were focused on taking out the guards.
"Batgirl, Maneuver Seven!"Nightwing commented.
I ran forward and Nighwing gave Batgirl to help go to the next bridge to take out the guards above them while me and Robin took out the ones in our way.
We soon have to take cover in a couple of rocks from being hit by the laser blasts of the Mechs.
I carefully moved my hand to my belt and threw two of my small explosive batarangs in an nearby bridge to take out the guards attempting to shoot me and my partners.
My attention then went to the Kroloteans and some of the guards all the sudden evacuating the base.
Something's up.
"Nightwing to Delta Squad."Nightwing spoke up. "Enemy is attempting escape. Request backup."
Superman, Superboy, Wonder Womanand Wonder Girl arrive in time to save Aquaman from a Mech that had snuck up behind him.
They take down a large number of Mechs without much effort.
I smiled in amazement when I saw Superboy took out four Mechs in quick speed.
"He just did a quadruple."I remarked.
I suddenly heard glass cracking behind me and turned around to see Batman knock out a guard that was going to attack me.
"Little less fan girl, little more Blue Jay."Batman reminded bluntly.
"Right."I chuckled with an embarrassed smile. "Sorry, boss."
I went back to my serious mode when I took out my whip to grab one of the guards and throwing him to his comrades before heading to the top bridge to join Nightwing.
"How much time we have left?"I asked.
"Three minutes to departure, Jay."Nightwing admitted.
My attention went on Lagoon Boy's yelling and saw Aquaman flank the figure, who appeared to be Black Manta.
The blow to the head knocks off his helmet.
My eyes widen in terror to see the person behind the mask of Black Manta.
It was Kaldur!
Our friend Aqualad has become our enemy.
"No way..."I whispered in pure shock.
"I had not believed Nightwing until this moment."Aquaman stated quietly.
"You did not want to believe!"Kaldur snapped.
"None of us wanted to believe this!"Superboy shouted. "How could you betray us?"
"You dare question me?"Kaldur snapped angrily and activated his aqua swords. "After all of you let Tula die!"
I felt a bit uneasy at the mention of Aquagirl's sacrifice as I went down to join the others with my boyfriend.
"Kaldur, that was a mission."Nightwing reminded. "Aquagirl knew the risks!"
"Nightwing is telling the truth!"I protested. "No one wanted her to..."
"Neptune's beard!"Lagoon Boy snapped, cutting me off as he approached Nightwing and I. "Don't cuddle this traitor. He has joined forces with our King's greatest enemy."
"Do you mean the King who hid from me the true identity of my father?"Aqualad questioned.
"That was my error in judgment, Kaldur'ahm."Aquaman responded. "No one else need suffer for it."
"All will suffer if Black Manta demands it."Kaldur retorted. "Blood is thicker than seawater."
Kaldur shoots a rocket at us, only for Superman to shield us from and withstand the blast.
When the smoke cleared, it revealed Kaldur has escaped.
I felt more terrified as the pieces of Kaldur leaving us finally connected in my mind.
Kaldur's true father was none other than the villainous Black Manta and now he was working for him.
Wonder Girl and Lagoon Boy try to stop the Manta-Flyer from getting away, but Nightwing calls them off.
"They're getting away!"Wonder Girl shouted.
"We'll stop them!"Lagoon Boy snapped.
"Negative."Nightwing responded. "We have a bomb down here. All Squads, evacuate to Bio-Ship. Now."
A bomb?!
"Hold on!"I shouted, protesting in my comlink. "What about you and-"
"You heard Nightwing!"Batman interrupted. "Move!"
Batman, me, Robin and Batgirl started to escape the base while Wonder Woman and Wonder Girl lift out Aquaman and Lagoon Boy.
In the Bio-Ship, Lagoon Boy was surprised to see two Kroloteans in the cockpit.
However, Miss Martian and Martian Manhunter quickly revert to their normal forms.
"Neptune's beard."Lagoon Boy said.
"Hello, Megan."Miss Martian commented. "Knew we forgot something."
"Well done, Alpha Squad."Batman stated.
"Find a seat."Miss Martian instructed. "It's time to go."
"Wait."Superboy replied and looked around. "Where's Superman?"
I quietly sat down next to Nightwing since I felt lost upon discovering Kaldur was now our enemy.
However, my thoughts were interrupted when the Bio-Ship started flying away from Malina Island.
The bomb had reached the end of its countdown and blows the entire island up in a large ball of fire.
"Come on, old girl!"Miss Martian retorted.
The Bio-Ship couldn't outrun the blast and shook violently, but it survived on the outer edges of the blast zone.
Through the window, I could see a huge pile of smoke which revealed Malina Island was completely demised.
Superman was thrown clear of the island and landed facedown in the water.
Aquaman gets him out and Wonder Woman tends to his wounds.
"He's breathing. Pulse is strong."Wonder Woman stated. "He'll be all right."
"He didn't save the Kroloteans."Superboy informed. "He won't be all right with that."
"What just happened?"Wonder Girl asked.
"The Kroloteans were clearly trying to build a new ship."Miss Martian said.
"They had to, Angelfish."Lagoon Boy agreed. "It was their only way to leave Earth without their Zeta-Platforms or original ship."
"But was Aqualad helping them escape or luring them into a trap?"Wonder Girl questioned.
I didn't say anything as I stated at the clear view in front of us, trying to sink in everything that happened.
We were all still alive though and that was what mattered the most.
Mount Justice

Blue Jay's POV
Me, Nightwing, Robin, Batgirl and the others stood on the beach at the foot of Mount Justice to say goodbye to Batman and the other five accused Leaguers.
Hawkman and Icon accompany the six leaguers; the former to support his spouse, the latter to act as an advocate because he has experience with intergalactic trial law.
Captain Atom was still hesitant about sending them into space, but Green Lantern argues that it's the only way.
He also mentioned that Hal and Guy were already on Rimbor to ensure a fair trial.
"How long will you be gone, Bruce?"I asked softly.
"However long it takes to clear our names, Emma."Batman answered in a firm tone. "But we will be back."
I nodded at my mentor as I felt Nightwing place his hand on my shoulder.
"Be careful, all right?"Nightwing instructed.
"Was about to say the same to you four."Batman declared. "I fear we leave the more dangerous task here on Earth."
Nightwing, Robin, Batgirl and myself share confident smiles with each other before looking back at our mentor.
"We'll manage."Nightwing assured.
"Time to go."Green Lantern declared.
Batman then walked away to join the other leaguers.
Green Lantern gathered them all, including a captured Krolotean, and with his ring, he creates a vessel that carries them into space.
Me and the other former protégés all looked on in silence as we watched our mentors disappear from sight.
