1. Int. Bedroom. Evening.

Darcy is lying on a bed with the covers over her, looking disappointed in herself.

Darcy:

I come here to break up with you and what do I do? This is insane, we can´t be together!

Drew, only in his boxers and a t-shirt climbs under the covers with her and smiles at her like a love sick puppy.

Drew:

But we´re great together. You said that yourself.

Darcy:

There´s also the obvious problem, that you´ve just turned 15 and I´m about to be 18 soon!

Drew:

So what?

He tries to kiss her, but she pulls away from him and wraps herself up in his covers, while she tries to find her clothes, that have clearly been strewn around the place in the heat of passion.

Darcy:

If I were a guy and you were a girl, maybe it would be different. It wouldn´t seem as icky to people.

Drew:

Do you think what we just did was icky?

She stops what she´s doing and smiles at him.

Darcy:

No and you´re an extremely generous lover, Drew.

He looks as proud as someone, who had just won an Olympic gold medal at what she said.

Drew:

What do I do, that´s so right?

Darcy:

You´re sweet and gentle and you don´t rush anything, like most guys try to. There´s also not that many guys who accept getting to do nearly everything, except for the one thing, they want to try the most.

Drew:

I´ll wait for you, as long as I have to.

Darcy:

We can´t do this anymore and you can´t tell anyone what we did here tonight ever! Got that?

Drew:

Not even Dallas? He´s my bro, I tell him everything!

Darcy:

Not this! I can´t have it come out, understood?

He looks disappointed, but nods anyway. There´s a knock on the door.

Gracie (off screen):

Drew, whoever the girl with you in there is, she´d better get a move on! Mom´s almost home!

Both of them go into panic mode, as he tries to recover her clothes, while she puts them on.

Darcy:

Fast, Drew! Your mom scares the crap out of me!

Drew:

There´s not enough time, you´ll have to hide under the bed.

Darcy:

Seriously?

They hear Drew´s mom coming up the stairs and it´s enough to get Darcy to go into hiding under the bed. Drew thinks fast, picks up one of his hand weights and pretends that he´s exercising, as the door opens and his mom comes in. At the last second, he looks down and sees Darcy´s panties on the floor in front of him and quickly puts his foot on them to conceal them from his mom.

Drew:

21, 22, 23 ... hi, mom!

Audra smells something in the air and Drew starts to get nervous.

Audra:

Is that a girl´s perfume I smell, Andrew?

Drew:

It´s my new deodorant, that smells like that.

Audra:

I´d return it. It makes you smell like a girl.

Drew looks relieved and smiles at her.

Drew:

Thanks for telling me your unfiltered opinion, mom.

Audra:

What are moms for? Have a good night and sleep tight.

Drew:

You too, mom.

His mom leaves them and Darcy comes out from under the bed. Drew hands her her panties.

Drew:

If my mom had seen them, we would have been toast!

Darcy:

Nice job, by the way!

Drew:

Thanks. Do you need help climbing down the drain pipe?

Darcy:

I´ll be okay. It´s a good thing, you live on the first floor!

She climbs out of his window and he waves goodbye to her. He´s clearly fallen big time for her.

OPENING CREDITS

2. Int. Car. Morning.

Drew is being driven to school by his mom. His very tomboyish little sister Gracie, who clearly likes her baggy skate wear, is in the back seat. He looks annoyed with his mom.

Drew:

Mom, there´s nothing to worry over!

Audra:

That´s what you said last year and the year before!

Gracie:

And the year before that!

Drew:

You´re not helping, Gracie!

Audra:

If you get detention the first day, like you did last year ,,,

Drew mouths along to her words, being used to hearing it from her. She sees it and looks at him sternly.

Audra:

Stop being such a wise-ass, Drew! If you don´t start shaping up, you can forget about going to college!

Gracie:

What was it your GPA was last year?

Audra:

Like yours was much better, missy?

Gracie:

At least it was better than his!

Drew:

At least I can make friends!

Gracie:

That´s low!

Audra:

Will you stop it, the both of you! Drew, all I want is for you to start doing your homework and paying attention in class. Is that too much to ask?

Drew:

No, mom.

Audra:

Gracie, would it hurt you to be more inviting to people?

Gracie:

What do you mean by that?

Drew:

Not being a downer all the time! If you weren´t, maybe you wouldn´t have been so lonely in Junior High.

Gracie sees that he´s right and sulks.

Gracie:

I can try, but I´m not promising anything!

Audra:

That´s all I ask for and can we please for once, get through a school year without any major incidents from either of you? That would be so great!

Drew makes eye contact with Gracie in the rear view mirror. They wink knowingly at each other.

3. Int. Hallway. Morning.

Darcy and Jane are moving into their new lockers, that are next to another.

Jane:

Did you do that thing we talked about?

Darcy:

I tried.

Jane stops what she´s doing and looks Darcy in the eyes.

Jane:

It´s not that hard, Darcy! You just say "Sorry, it´s been fun, but I have to move on"!

Darcy:

Maybe I won´t have to.

Jane:

Darcy, I´ve been holding my opinion back, because I thought you would do the right thing and let your little boy-toy find a girl his own age to play with, like you should! But it´s wrong and that´s coming from me, who likes to pride myself on being open minded!

Darcy:

Why is it wrong, if he likes the things we do?

Jane:

Hello! People will go crazy, when they find out!

Darcy closes her locker and decides that she´s heard enough.

Darcy:

I told him never to tell anyone. You´re not gonna rat on me, are you?

Jane:

No, but I will morally scold you over it!

Darcy:

Jane, you already have everything made for you, when it comes to love. You have no idea what it´s like to be lonely, while all your friends are experiencing all the things you wished, you were the one experiencing and feel like no one wants you. Between my break up with Sav and me meeting Drew, that´s how I felt every day.

Jane looks at her with sympathy.

Darcy:

He makes me feel like I´m not Darcy, the virginal loser, who can´t get someone her own age to date her. I can be the Darcy he pictures me as and I like being that Darcy.

Jane:

Don´t say I didn´t warn you!

Darcy:

Warning noted. Shall we get to class?

Jane:

Okay!

Jane still looks a little unsatisfied with Darcy´s decision, but at the same time sees that there´s no use in arguing with her.

4. Int. Hallway (elsewhere). Morning.

Someone who´s enjoying her first day of high school to the fullest is Alli Bhandari, who´s almost jumping with joy and excitement that the day is finally here! So much that it´s embarrassing Darcy´s little sister Clare.

Alli:

My first high school locker! Take in that whiff of learning in the air, Clare!

Clare:

Mine smells like sweaty gym socks. I don´t know what yours smells like, Alli!

A cute and bubbly, albeit a little bit overweight blonde girl comes down to them and smiles at them. This is Jenna Middleton.

Jenna:

You guys won´t believe the hottie, my locker is next to!

Alli:

Tell us about him, Jenna.

Jenna:

His name is KC and when we talked I was like ...

She squeals very loudly with joy, making Alii do the same on her behalf. Clare shakes her head at them.

Clare:

You´re here to learn.

Alli:

That doesn´t mean we can´t have fun, while we´re learning!

Clare:

I can easily imagine the kind of fun, you both want to have!

Jenna and Alli shake their heads at her, like she just doesn´t get it. Gracie comes over to them, looking for the right locker and finds out that it´s next to Alii´s, who doesn´t look too pleased with her new "neighbor", even though Gracie tries to smile in a friendly way at them. Jenna and Clare are more inviting though.

Clare:

Hi, are you new here too?

Gracie:

Was it the constant look of confusion on my face, that gave me away?

Jenna and Clare laugh, while Alli only very fakely pretends to.

Jenna:

What´s your name?

Gracie:

They call me Gracie.

Clare:

I´m Clare and this is Jenna and Alli.

Gracie:

It´s nice to meet you all.

Alli:

Gracie, huh? I would have thought that someone like you would have a boyish nickname, like Sam for someone who´s named Samantha for example.

Gracie takes Alli´s insult with a small smile, although Clare and Jenna are both ashamed of it.

Gracie:

Unfortunately, my parents named me Grace. What was I gonna shorten it to, Gra or perhaps just Gr?

Jenna:

Me and Clare have something we need to talk to Alli about, but it was really nice meeting you, Gracie.

Clare:

I´m sure we´ll end up being friends, all of us.

Jenna and Clare practically drag Alli away, while Gracie opens her new locker.

5. Int. Hallway (elsewhere). Morning.

Clare and Jenna are both annoyed with Alli.

Clare:

What was that?

Jenna:

Are you trying to make us all look bad in front of her on the first day of school?

Alli:

No, but she´s a boy repellant!

Clare:

A what?

Alli:

Like any boy would come over and talk to me, if they saw that freak standing next to me?

Jenna:

That´s no reason to start out by being mean to her.

Clare:

How would you feel if it was you, who got that kind of greeting on your first day here, from someone you´re meeting for the first time?

Alli sees what they mean.

Alli:

If I apologize to her, are we all cool here?

Jenna:

We´ll be cool.

Clare:

As a freezer!

Alli doesn´t exactly look like she´s looking forward to it, but goes along with it anyway.

6. Int. Hallway. Morning.

Alli comes back to where Gracie is moving into her new locker and looks apologetic.

Alli:

Look, I´m sorry if I was mean just before. I´m not that great, when it comes to meeting new people.

Gracie just smiles at her.

Gracie:

It´s okay. Compared to the things I´ve been called at my other schools, it barely registered on my radar.

Alli now starts to feel really bad over what she said.

Alli:

Were you bullied a lot?

Gracie:

I went to three schools in two years. I´m hoping to stay at this one a little longer though.

Alli:

If you want to hang out with us, it´s okay with me. Jenna and Clare already seem to like you, so ...

They smile at each other.

Gracie:

I´d like that. Is Alli short for something?

Alli:

Aliyah.

Gracie:

It´s a pretty name.

Alli sees Drew coming towards them and clearly likes what she sees.

Alli:

Don´t say anything, but there´s a totally hot guy coming over here!

Gracie turns her head and smiles to herself, when she sees who Alli meant.

Drew:

Hi, sis! Are you getting settled in?

Gracie:

I´d say so. Alli, this is my older brother Andrew, better known as Drew. Drew, this is Alli, my new locker neighbor.

Alli gets so embarrassed, that she can barely get out a word, as she shakes Drew´s hand. Gracie has to fight hard not to laugh.

Drew:

It´s good to meet you, Alli. Be nice to my little sister, okay?

Alli:

I will!

Drew:

I gotta get to class. Have fun, you two!

Drew leaves them and Gracie finally can´t hold in her laughter anymore.

Gracie:

I´d say we´re even now!

Alli:

Please don´t tell him what I called him!

Gracie:

Your secret is safe with me.

Alli is still having trouble getting her eyes off Drew though, as he walks away from them.

7. Int. Classroom. Day.

Darcy and her classmates are having Social studies class with Miss Oh.

Miss Oh:

Who of you can tell me the difference is between rape and statutory rape?

Several hands go up, including Jane´s.

Miss Oh:

Yes, Jane.

Jane:

A rape is when someone is forced to have sex against their will. Statutory rape is when someone older has sex with someone, who´s below the age of consent.

Miss Oh:

What is the age of consent, for those of our students who might not know?

Jane:

It´s the age, where they say it´s okay for you to start doing it!

She gets some laughs from her classmates for her answer and a small smile from miss Oh.

Miss Oh:

You might be asking yourself, why is she bringing this up? It´s because the age of consent is going to be raised next year from 14 years old to 16 years old and I´d like to hear what your opinions on the subject are. Is it too low or too high in your opinion and remember that there are no wrong or right answers here, only opinions and everyone is allowed to have theirs.

Darcy raises her hand.

Miss Oh:

Yes, Darcy?

Darcy:

Isn´t it true that there´s exceptions to the rule, if they´re not that far apart in age?

Miss Oh:

That´s true, Darcy. According to the new laws, someone who´s 12 or 13 can legally have sex with someone two years older than them and when they reach age 14, they can legally have sex with someone who´s five years older than they are.

Darcy looks over at Jane, like she just got a small victory over her.

8. Int. Hallway. Day.

Darcy and Jane are heading towards the cafeteria for lunch.

Darcy:

You heard Miss Oh. It´s not like I´m breaking any laws.

Jane:

No, but there´s something called using common sense! This is bound to blow up in your face sooner or later!

Darcy:

Maybe everyone will accept it.

Jane:

Yeah and monkeys might fly out of my butt!

Darcy:

Watched "Wayne´s World" again last night, did ya?

Jane:

Both the first one and the sequel. I can never seem to stop, after I´ve seen the first one!

Darcy:

Party on, Jane!

They head into the cafeteria.

9. Int. Cafeteria. Day.

It´s the first lunch break of the year and Drew and Dallas are eating together, as usual.

Dallas:

That Vanessa chick won´t stop calling me!

Drew:

Are you so thick headed, that you can tell it´s because she likes you?

Dallas:

I don´t want to be tied down to one girl. Guys on the hockey team get tons of action, everyone knows that!

Drew:

You don´t think guys on the football team do?

Dallas:

For that you´ll have to make the team first. Don´t look, but there´s a freshman, who´s checking you out.

Drew laughs a little.

Drew:

Is she cute?

Dallas:

She is. She´s also sitting with your little sister.

Drew:

What?

Drew turns around and sees that it´s Alli, who´s checking him out. They smile and wave at each other, to Dallas´s amusement.

Drew:

That´s just my little sister´s friend, Alli. She´s probably only looking at me, because she doesn´t know all that many here yet.

Dallas:

I don´t know ...

Drew:

She´s cute, but she´s also friends with my little sister. If her and me dated and broke up, it could ruin things for Gracie. Right now, I for one am thrilled to see, that she´s had such a good start here.

Dallas:

You´re a true gentleman, Drew!

We cut over to the table, where Alli, Gracie, Jenna and Clare are sitting.

Jenna:

Would it be too forward to ask you, if you´re ...

She´s too embarrassed to say the word, to Gracie´s amusement.

Jenna:

Because I´d like to think, that we´re all open minded here, if you are!

Gracie:

Are you trying to ask, if I´m gay, Jenna?

Clare is clearly a little uncomfortable by them talking so openly about it.

Clare:

You don´t have to answer, if you don´t want to!

Gracie:

It´s okay. Guys don´t turn me on at all and the idea of making out with one makes me wanna gag!

Jenna:

So you like girls?

Gracie:

Maybe the best way to explain it, is that anytime I see a guy, I basically see my older brother. The idea of doing something romantic with him is worse than anything else, I could imagine!

Jenna:

I have an older brother too, so you don´t need to paint me a picture!

Clare:

It doesn´t bother you, that the bible frowns on it?

Gracie:

So far, I haven´t tried anything with a girl, so I´m pretty sure that me and God are still good. Anyway, I don´t believe that he would have created me this way, if it was only to make me do something, I don´t want to do and reject who I am. I always played with the boys on my street much more than I did with the girls, from when I was little and that´s probably why I feel more like a boy, than I do a girl for most of the time.

Clare:

I´m glad that we live in a time, where you get to be who you want to be and dress how you want to. If you ask me, that should be something everyone has the right to. But the bible is clear on how it feels about same sex relationships.

Jenna:

You´ll have to excuse Clare. She was born with a bible up the butt! I say that if you don´t want to be with a boy and you think it would work better for you with a girl, then find yourself a girl with those same pent up feelings and go for it!

Gracie looks glad at how extremely accepting Jenna is. Clare sees that she´s clearly outnumbered here and lets it lie.

Gracie:

Thanks, Jenna. I don´t mind that you feel that way, Clare. This is just something we view differently.

They all notice that Alli hasn´t been following the conversation, because she´s lost in the sight of Drew eating spaghetti and decide to tease her a little.

Jenna:

So, Alli. What´s Drew having for lunch?

Alli:

Spaghetti Bolognese.

Gracie:

He´s single, you know?

Clare:

You should try asking him out.

Alli:

I will, when I´m ready.

She sighs to herself and mentally pictures what it would be like to be Drew´s girlfriend. Her friends find it funny, but one who doesn´t is Darcy, who looks at Alli with fiery jealousy in her eyes.

10. Ext. Football Field. Day.

Drew is practicing his football throwing with Dallas as his target wide receiver, when Gracie comes over to him. Drew throws a long pass that drops right down into Dallas´s arms. Gracie applauds him and he smiles at her.

Gracie:

Looking good, bro!

Drew:

I hear that it´s between me and some other guy for QB. His name is Riley or something like that.

Gracie:

Have you met him?

Drew:

No, but he doesn´t scare me. What do you want?

Gracie:

Don´t be mad at me.

Drew looks annoyed and braces himself for the worst.

Drew:

What did you do?

Gracie:

I told Alli, that you´re single. She likes you, you know.

Drew:

Gracie!

Gracie:

It´s better than that other girl, who´s totally using you!

Drew:

She´s not! You don´t understand those things, because you´ve never tried anything!

Gracie:

I know that she´s been messing with your head all summer! I know you too well, Drew. You can´t hide it from me. Alli is sweet and nice and won´t play with your heart, I guarantee it.

Drew looks torn on the matter, but willing to bend.

Drew:

If I take her to the back to school dance, will that help you?

Gracie smiles widely.

Gracie:

I owe you one.

Dallas comes back to them carrying the football.

Dallas:

You do know that the way this game works is that first you throw it to me and then I throw it to you, right?

Gracie:

You´re trusting my brother to figure out something that complicated?

Drew:

Get out of here before I change my mind, Gracie!

Gracie:

Okay, I´ll go! You should try out for wide receiver, Dallas.

Dallas:

I just might.

Gracie leaves them as Drew tries to take in, what he just said yes to.

Dallas:

Change your mind about what?

Drew:

I´m taking that girl Alli to the back to school dance.

Dallas laughs, which doesn´t help Drew in any way.

Drew:

I swear, one word out of you ...

Dallas:

What the matter? So, she´s a freshman, but she´s a cutie! You might even find out that you like her.

Drew shakes his head at it, like it´s an impossibility.

Drew:

What would I have to talk with a freshman girl about?

Dallas:

You can talk about your sister. You have that it common!

Drew is finding it hard to see any positives right now.

11. Int. Hallway. Day.

Alli has stepped in some gum and it´s not exactly a pretty moment for her, as she tries to scrape it off the bottom of her show with a ruler. She doesn´t even notice Drew coming over to her.

Drew:

People here are savages. I have to apologize to you on their behalf.

She gets nervous immediately at him talking to her an in such an un-cool situation.

Alli:

Hi, Drew!

Drew:

The easy way is to walk it off.

She smiles at him and tries to be at ease.

Alli:

Thanks. That´s good advice.

Drew:

Oh, I´m full of good advice! Did you know that baking soda is the best thing to use, if you spill grape juice?

Alli:

Baking soda? Really?

Drew:

My mom demands that me and Gracie learn these things, so she won´t have to come running every time we spill something.

Alli:

It sounds like you have a smart mom!

They smile at each other and seem to actually be hitting it off a little bit.

We see Darcy watching them from afar, but not doing anything yet. She´s not too happy about it though!

We cut back to Drew and Alli.

Drew:

So anyway, I was wondering if you had a date for the back to school dance.

Alli looks like she can barely believe, what she just heard.

Alli:

You want to go with me?

Drew:

Yeah, it could be fun! What do you have to lose?

Alli:

Nothing, I guess!

Drew:

Cool! Should I pick you up at your house or we could meet somewhere?

Alli:

I don´t care.

Drew:

We´ll meet at The Dot then. That way, I won´t have to worry, if I can find your house. Have you been there before?

Alli:

No, but I was talking with my friends about going there after school today.

Drew:

Maybe I´ll see you there.

He leaves her looking still a little shocked that it actually happened!

12. Int. Hallway (elsewhere). Day.

Drew comes out from the bathroom, where Darcy is waiting to stare him down, giving him a small shock.

Drew:

Jeez, you scared me!

Darcy:

Why were you talking to Alli, Drew?

Drew looks a little freaked out by the way she looking at him and with good reason.

Drew:

I thought we weren´t supposed to talk at school.

Darcy:

Why were you talking to her?

Drew:

Have you been spying on me?

Darcy:

I´m not gonna ask a third time!

They´re interrupted, when Clare comes out from the girl´s room. Darcy freezes in fear, now that she´s busted.

Clare:

Hi, Darcy. What are you doing?

Darcy:

Nothing, Clare. I´ll talk to you later.

Clare:

Okay.

Clare walks quickly away from them and Drew begins to see that Gracie might have been right about Darcy.

Drew:

Darcy, if we can´t be together, then you have to allow me to find someone, I can be with.

He leaves her to think about it and what just happened with Clare.

13. Int. Clare´s Room. Day.

Clare is doing her homework by her desk like the good student she is, when there´s a small knock on the door and Darcy comes in.

Darcy:

We need to talk about what you saw.

Clare:

I don´t know ...

Darcy:

Yes, you do. That thing outside the bathrooms today, where you saw me talking to Drew.

Darcy sits down on a chair next to her and looks her in the eyes.

Clare:

I didn´t know that you knew him.

Darcy:

Clare, I´ve ... done things with him.

Clare:

Sex?

Darcy:

No, not that!

Clare looks a little relieved.

Darcy:

But we´ve done other things, that teenagers do.

Clare:

Like go to the movies?

Darcy:

Yes, but it wasn´t exactly what I meant! More like stuff you do without your clothes on.

Clare:

Darcy, you know that´s a sin!

Darcy:

Yes, but here´s the thing, Clare. It´s really hard to not want to do these things, when you know that all of your friends are doing them. That and it feels really good, when you´re with the right guy! Only Drew isn´t the right guy for me, I found that out today.

Clare:

Why isn´t he? It´s not like he´s a grown up and you´re a kid or the other way around.

Darcy:

Yeah, but at our age those few years mean a world of difference in how mature you are. Drew is better off with someone like Alli, who´s on his own level. Plus I found out that I apparently turn into a complete stalker, when I get jealous and his mom scares the living daylights out of me, so I´ll gladly let Alli deal with her!

They giggle and smile at each other.

Clare:

Am I gonna become like you, when I´m your age?

Darcy:

Hopefully not, Kiddo.

Darcy looks happy with her decision.

14. Ext. Torres House. Evening.

Darcy comes up to the door and rings the doorbell. The door is opened by Audra, who eyes her suspiciously.

Audra:

Yes?

Darcy:

You don´t know me, miss Torres, but my name is Darcy. Is it possible that I can talk to Drew?

Audra:

DREW!

There´s an awkward silence while they wait for him.

Audra:

So, Darcy. How do you know my son?

Darcy:

From school.

Audra:

You look a little old to be a Sophomore.

Darcy:

I´m one of those people that looks older, than they are, I guess.

Audra:

I see ...

Audra doesn´t look like she entirely believes a very uncomfortable looking Darcy, who gets saved by Drew arriving.

Drew:

What are you doing here, Darcy?

Darcy:

I need to talk to you. It´ll only take a minute or two, miss Torres, I promise.

Audra:

You couldn´t have told him over the phone?

Drew:

Mom, will you let me have just the tiniest bit of privacy? Is that too much to ask for?

Audra:

Five minutes and then I want her out of here, understood?

Drew:

Yes, mom!

Audra leaves them and they step outside just to be sure, she isn´t listening in.

Darcy:

Drew, I ...

Drew:

Wait!

He first has to look to make sure that his mom aren´t watching them through the windows, before he dares to talk to her.

Drew:

Okay, you can talk.

Darcy:

I´m here to break up with you, for real this time. It´s been fun, but this isn´t good for either of us. We´re clearly at two different maturity levels and continuing this will only make it worse for both of us, when it ends. Therefore I´m making the grown up decision and cutting you loose, so you can find yourself a real girlfriend.

He can´t help looking very disappointed.

Drew:

I thought, you liked me.

Darcy:

I do and you´re a really nice guy, who´s gonna make some girl so happy, when you make her your next girlfriend! It could be Alli. I´m sure she´d be a perfect girlfriend for you.

Drew:

You really think so?

Darcy:

Her and my little sister have been BFF´s for ages, so I know her pretty well. She´s spunky, lovable, kind to others and just an all around great girl. I really think you should give her a chance.

Drew:

You´re not the first one to say that. Me and Dallas hung out with her at The Dot after school and she´s a cool girl, when it comes down to it. Even Dallas thinks so.

Darcy:

Don´t you think it could be because I´m right then? Good luck with love and all that, Drew. Good guys like you deserve to have good things happen to them, even the bible says so.

She gives him a friendly pad on the shoulder and walks away from him with a smile on her face.
