" you are cleared and are allowed to continue in the tournament if you want" I looked at the nurse who gave me my medical papers for my treatment. It's surprising to me that I was able to be healed in a whole week. Lucky me the tournament got postponed and honestly, I think they were waiting on me.
"Volcan, are you sure you want to compete? No one will look at you differently if you drop out" My father tried to convince me.
"I passed all their examinations and I promise I won't push myself too hard, but with Leon gone, it's my time to take the number one spot" I smiled at my father.
"If you think it'll be easy to take that top spot, you are mistaken" I looked to the door and there was Tyler. Behind him were Flora, Snap, and James.
"We came to see if you were feeling better, but I can tell you're fine" Flora looked a bit flustered. I'm glad my teammates and Tyler came to see me and then I noticed my father staring at Tyler.
"Tyler I have a gift you should hold on to" without hesitation, my father gave Tyler his necklace. "There is no reason for me to hold onto that old thing plus I already got Zexeler again" he laughed and patted Tyler on the back.
"Thank you" Tyler smiled at my dad. "I know I'm a part of Zexeler but still at the same time I'm still me" Tyler and my father shared a laugh. Tyler then jumped up remembering something. "Since you are feeling better I'll let Dean Dark know" Tyler left as quickly as he came. My teammates then looked at me. Flora was blushing, Snap had a face full of remorse and James is as unreadable as ever.
"I want to start. I want to apologize, we all know I'm still struggling to use my overseer power and I let him control me" I could see the tears in his eyes. "I wanted to be strong like you so that I would do anything to be your rival, but in turn, I lost myself to my power. I'm sorry" James caught Snap as his knees buckled.
"Snap, I have forgiven you since the attack happened. There is no need for you to rush to my level because you are at my level. Otherwise, you wouldn't have made it to the finals to fight me. Please get stronger though don't rush" I gave him a goofy grin to comfort him. Snap then nodded and James took him out to the common area.
"I think I should go too" My father followed the other two out.
"Volcan" Flora sounded hesitant.
"Yeah" I answered.
"With everything that has happened this year, I don't think I've had the time to talk to you about how I feel" She started playing with her petals.
"Well when you hang around Arthur like a dog in heat I didn't make it easy for you" I chuckle and Flora slapped my shoulder for my bad joke. "Okay, I deserved that, but there is no need for you to say anything since I feel the same way" I walked up to her and trapped her lips in a kiss. It wasn't passionate, it wasn't desperate. It was quick and sweet. When I pulled away she was blushing and we both didn't need to say anything to know that we wanted each other.
"Let's get out of here" Flora took my hand in hers and we left my medical room. Walking down these halls and getting out of the hospital. To know my teammates, friend and father are waiting for me. To know I'll still be able to compete and fight my heart out. I would be lying if I was feeling completely fine but what champion is fighting on a perfect day to reach their goal.
"Volcan, I have good news!" Tyler sounded excited. "Dean Dark said the finals will continue tomorrow" we all cheered. Then James, Tyler, and I shared a look as if we will not lose.
"Everyone, let's not think about the tournament for now. Let's go get lunch, it's on me" my father diffused the situation.
~James's~
(Light that fire up in the night - Persona Q)
I'm looking forward to this. I'm match one of round two and I'm up against Axel the most powerful of the noivern trio. I then hear my back door open and in walks Tyler.
"I think you're in the wrong room if you're looking for Axel" I tried to sound normal but it came out as if I was annoyed with him. This is why I hate myself sometimes.
"Honestly I was looking for this room, this is my waiting room too since I'm the third battle" Tyler scoffed. I sighed.
"Okay, you of all pokemon know I'm not the best at emotions, and most of the time my tone doesn't match my words" Tyler nodded at my little spheal. "Then why do you always seem annoyed with me?" Tyler giggles at my little outbursts.
"For a guy of few words you are letting your emotions show" Tyler started laughing. "Honestly I've forgiven you a while ago" Tyler got serious rather quickly. "I guess a part of me is just jealous of how fast you moved on. Not just you, I'm jealous of the relationships that are forming around me. It's nothing against you and if it's any consolation good luck" Tyler smiled at me.
I was about to respond when " Would the first match fighters please step out!" Mai's voice screamed out. I then nodded at Tyler, leaving.
"Welcome first to the field, his flames are just as hot as Volcan's, and the ability to fuse his two separate powers! We welcome James!" Ai did my opening as I walked out on the turf field.
"His opponent, the prodigy whose power frightens all and it's not just his voice dripping with poison. It's the gatekeeper of Hell, Axel" Axel walked in facing me with a smirk on his face.
"I've been looking forward to this" he licked his lips.
(Light the fire up in the night - Persona 3 dancing in moonlight)
" I don't think we have ever fought or should I say I have fought you before when you were a part of Tyler" I taunted a bit.
"No need to worry about me being weak if that's the problem because I'm way stronger without my brother. Though I'd worry about yourself because after facing me you won't be able to get up" he licked his lips again.
"Now, if you're ready it's time to begin!" Mai and Ai both cheered. I'll make the first move.
"Flame Dance!" I took the heat from my body and spread it throughout the field. Normally it would take a while but since energy is easily released in dance I learned the flames will spread faster. I got the idea from Volcan.
"Talk about an explosive opening!" Mai commented.
"Sorry, my friend but even with explosive skills, I will finish you in under a minute" Axel whispered in my ear. How fast is he able to avoid my attack and get behind me? I then got stuck with poison from behind. "I do have to say you are grouped in the pokemon. I actually enjoy fighting you, but let's see if you can handle my power?" he flashed a smirk as I got up. "Rise my true kingdom, Despair Paradise!" He cheered in mad laughter as the despair-ridden area rose with the one inch of blood water and cities in the far distance, There was a storm brewing with red clouds with thunder and lightning.
"There it is Axel's hell-like universe" Ai cheered.
"Your gaze can't stop me" I flew forward in flames of blue after I shot a massive ball of flames in the sky. Axel easily moved out of the way.
"You missed!" Axel snickered.
"I wasn't aiming for you" I smile as I fly up. "Brave Meteor!" The flames surrounding me blast in every direction meeting the Draco meteors crashing into the blood water.
"Sorry but time is almost up for you," Axel said as he charged up with power.
"Like I'll let you take me down! Burst!" one of my meteors crashed into me but it didn't hurt. I absorbed its flames and made it my own. They were like additional flaming wings.
"It looks like they are ready to finish this!" Mai cheered.
"Burn Up!" Flapping my wings All the flames held within my body were drained and blasted in a multichain explosion in Axel's direction.
"Is that it for Axel?" Ai asked.
"I'm sorry flame butterfly but it's been fun" his voice came from behind me. I turned around and he was high above me. "Let me finish this" he started charging poison on his tail and started his descent towards me. " Devil combo three, swirling poison" he sliced at me with his tails and I got sent staring into the water with a splash, but he kept coming at me. I then realized I couldn't move, looking up I saw his eyes were blood-red showing he was using his eyes to stop me from moving. I guess I did lose in under a minute.
"Devil combo xros three" Axel completely morphed into a ball of dark energy and came crashing straight into me.
"Knockout reading from James's ORB and the winner once again without a synergy burst is Axel Dark.
"Dang, I thought you would last till the last configuration" Axel commented. "Also, your technique has a major toll on your body. Instead of using your body as a source of power use your opponent or another natural source" Axel lectured me before I passed out.
~Jason's~
(Keep your faith - P5R)
The second round is here and I'm up against Volcan. As much as I'm here to compete and win, Milo plagues my mind. I haven't cried and grieved since he was imprisoned. Though why is he the only thing on my mind?
"If the second match contenders please come to the field" I slapped my cheeks and did as the announcement asked. Walking onto the stadium field I was met with crowds cheering for Volcan and I as we entered.
"Hey Jason," Volcan said, snapping me out of my trance.
"Yeah?" I asked.
"We both have experienced something very dramatic and life-changing recently, but this shouldn't stop us from putting our best in this match" Volcan looked lively as he spoke as if he wasn't bleeding out a week ago. I hear his words and Milo would want me to do the same thing.
"You're right so let's do this and I want to go up against Tyler so I need to win" I cheered.
"That's the fire I like to see" Volcan joined me in my flare of excitement.
(Throw Your Mask Away - P5R)
"Both competitors are ready so let's begin!" Mai and I cheered. At the start, Volcan blasted towards me and gut-punched me. In reaction, I coughed but that wasn't all he had. He set off an explosion as well, sending me back. I was able to catch myself and land on my feet.
"You know the punch is more effective than the explosion" I mocked and he nodded, but that is all the time I needed. Standing still you see ropes of pure earth wreaking havoc in Volcan's direction. He used the flame on his back to set off a massive explosion breaking the ropes but he wasn't prepared for my next assault.
"What's this?!" he asked as he had all four limbs restrained by obsidian. Though it would require a lot out of me to use pure obsidian so it's a mixture.
"Who would have thought Jason's power extends from basic rocks?" Mai commented on my power.
"Be careful because not only can I change the mineral but I can turn up the heat" With the snap of my claw I can hear Volcan scream as I heated the obsidian past his heat tolerance.
"Don't get cocky, I can still fight" as he said that he set off an explosion next to me sending me back. He can set off explosions even without touching me. I then notice a light smoke coming from the field, I need to get out of it. "Too late" He laughed as he set off a massive explosion.
"Burst!" I said right before the explosion went off. I use everything I possibly can. Unlike the previous two explosions, this one hurt and was enough to melt some of the turfs.
"Had enough yet" Volcan smirked from his restrained position.
"Full counter!" I screamed and four different vines and four different minerals started attacking Volcan and I was going to join in with multiblast "Flash Cannon" As soon as my onslaught was unleashed I realized my mistake. I felt a massive heatwave as if Volcan was increasing his body temperature. He heated his body to the point that when my attack hit his restraints they instantly broke.
"It seems Volcan took advantage of his body heat and his opponent's attack to break his restraints" Ai sounded bored. All that happened next was a blur to me and the field was covered in smoke.
When it cleared, Volcan was staring right at me and he used his synergy burst.
"Are you ready to end this match?" He asked confidently.
"Let's do this" I charged in slicing him with my wings and he countered with two blasts. I then low-swept him with my tail and "Dragon pulse" sending him back but I'm not done. I fly in with four vines behind me. With him still dazed I fly up in a spiral and the vines wrap up in a spiral as well. "Take this finishing move, Mineral Massacre!" From my wings, minerals of all types shot at the vines and sliced through it hitting Volcan. "This'll end it" I shot a final blast magnifying the power of the sun through my wings. The whole spiral crumbled but Volcan was still standing with a few cuts. I then landed in front of him.
"I have to say you did better than I expected but I have to win this" I was confused but then he made his move. "Precipice Blades!" A bunch of stalagmites appears trapping me. A few even hit me. Volcan jumped up and spun as his blue flames covered him. "Here's my finisher, Core Overburn!" Flames spread everywhere in the forcefield. Not only was I hot with ultimate fire but the sharp rocks were hitting me everywhere. How is he so strong even after having surgery? When I didn't feel the burning of my scales I opened my eyes. I didn't know I had closed and I was staring straight at Volcan letting out heavy pants.
"Jason is still standing, everyone!" Mai cheered. Volcan then started running towards me ready to continue the battle.
"I want to keep fighting and to prove my power. That Milo was right to trust me, but I can't go on anymore" I whispered my words and fell into Volcan's arms. Everything went black.
~Xavier's~
(Maze of Life - Persona Q)
"Hello, hello, it's me, Mai!" Our announcer cheered.
"Also me, Ai" our other announcer sounded depressed. Both being Typhlosion though Ai is an ancient hisuian form.
"We are here tonight to welcome our semi-finalists to the field!" Mai gestured to the four of us on the field.
"Our first semifinalist is a demon on the field and by far has had the quickest matches in the tournament! Not to mention the number one in rankings for points!" Mai squealed.
"Definitely my type, the prodigy of edginess and can raise a kingdom of despair in the blink of an eye," Ai said Monotone.
"We have the gatekeeper of hell, Axel Dark!" They both cheered. While We were on the field there were spotlights on Axel as he waved to the crowd.
"Definitely not a fan of being on a big stage, but know it is my strength alone that got me this far!" He exclaimed to the audience.
"Show off" I scoffed.
"Next on our roster is the flaming prodigy whose flames can melt the most sturdy rocks" Ai took the lead.
"Don't get too close to the flame on his back because it blazes bright the more damage he takes!" Mai winked at Volcan and you can see him shiver a bit.
"The master of explosions, we have Volcan Overcrest!" The twins got the crowd riled up.
"I'd like to say kidly to my opponents and you all. I will be winning this tournament hands down" he flashed a pearly white smile.
"We still have two more and we have a masterful tactician who controls the elements almost flawlessly!" Mai gave Tyler high praise.
"With nifty tricks and high charisma he can take down many opponents effectively" Ai evaluated him.
"Welcome the element specialist, Tyler Loft!" In reaction to his announcement, Tyler shot a ball of green light in the air and it burst into fireworks.
"Thanks, everyone, It's been a blast competing but it would be great if I won!" Tyler gave everyone a cute smile.
"Lastly we have a special guest from the elemental region and he's a gym leader everybody" Ai sounded confused.
"Not to mention out of all the finalists he competed in the least amount of matches. All his opponents noted it was as if fighting a phantom!" Mai sounded amused.
"We have the hellhound known as the phantom knight, Xavier Loft!" Mai and Ai announced.
"I'm glad to have been invited to compete and if I didn't make it this far it would be shameful for me to return to the Elemental region" I spoke calmly. The screens in the stadium changed from the twins to the Dean of the school.
"Tonight we will see these two semifinal matches and take a break tomorrow. To then continue the finals the following day. Who of these four will be our champion?" Dean Dark's voice boomed through the stadium.
"Thank you, Dean Dark, now if we can have Axel and Volcan stay on the field so we can start the first semifinal match!" We did as Mai asked. Both Tyler and I walked off the field towards the waiting room.
"Xavier, do you remember what you said to me?" Tyler asked. I was confused since I have said a lot of things to him. "The night you eliminated Polo" Tyler looked at me with his piercing golden eyes.
"That I'll tell you how my power works after I beat you" I flashed him a smirk.
"I don't plan on losing to you, remember our last battle in a tournament" Tyler never fixed his gaze.
"The Marine cup, when we were on our way to Alola. I knocked you off the ship and into the water with my Z-move and yet you were able to win. Once again sorry for that" I apologized.
"Yeah, but promise me this don't hold back like when we were kids we would do anything to win" Tyler fixed his serious gaze on his foolish grin.
"I wouldn't want to have it any other way" My tail started to swish back and forth. "Now" fixing our gaze to the tv in the waiting room. "Who do you think will win?" I asked.
"I want another rematch with Volcan, but I have never fought Axel," Tyler pondered. I was a bit mad that he just saw me as a stepping stone for reaching the finals. "What am I saying I haven't even won my match" he giggled a bit.
"Don't underestimate me, remember I am a gym leader after all and you saw what I did to Polo" I started to let out a grim laugh.
~Axel's~
(Vector to the Heavens - Kingdom Hearts)
"I have to say I'm excited and have been looking forward to this match" The whole crowd gasped.
"It's rare to hear compliments come out of your mouth Axel, but I can't say I do not feel the same way" I let out a light chuckle at his words.
"Fact is we are both strong students and yet it's funny this is our first time fighting each other" I then changed to a fighting position. "Funny thing is I have a lot of expectations from this fight so don't disappoint" I smirked.
"This is a lot of praise coming from a foul mouth and I'll take it gracefully, now I'm ready" Volcan got in his fighting stance.
"Both competitors are ready so now begin!" Mai and Ai cheered. Instantly the whole field was covered in white smoke. The damn bastard can't set off a massive explosion like this unless synergy burst is active. Is he using it as a smokescreen? I then charged toward his silhouette and punched it for me to punch through a rock.
"Shit" I tried to get out of there but I got chopped in the back of the neck. My vision blurred a bit as I was sent tumbling forward.
"I know I can't face you head-on without my ability active, so aiming for a vital point like the back of your neck to slow you down is one of my few options" Volcan explained to me as I got up to my feet. I then started to smell burning wood. I then noticed around me small red orbs and dodged backwards. Though almost instantly I got chopped in the back of the neck again. Sending rolling back where I came from. This ass has me in his trap, if he can set off an explosion and force me to dodge he can take advantage and strike me.
"For once Axel isn't the one in control of the match! This is astonishing!" I could deal without Mai's commentary for now. Sadly I can't use my eyes because I can't see him. I guess he planned for that as well. This ass had multiple plans set to disable me from using my abilities.
"Please don't tell me you don't have a countermeasure, cause this match will be a disappointment to you and me" Volcan's voice was coming from all directions.
"No way" I then got up as my purple aura started to surge everywhere. "Devil combo one Hells wind" my aura then started to funnel into a whirlwind sucking up Volcan and the smoke into it.
"Talk about explosive power!" Ai sounded amazed. The downside to this move is using my aura as the combo doesn't have a second or final configuration.
"I can see you, you're done!" I said in a grim voice. "Rise my true kingdom, Despair Paradise!" I cheered in mad laughter as the despair-ridden area rose with the one inch of blood water and cities in the far distance, There was a storm brewing with red clouds with thunder and lightning. "I'm pretty sure this is your first time experiencing this place and let me give you a hand" I sent a glare at Volcan as he fell out of the sky. To my dismay, he landed on his feet but slid in the water a little. I then notice the flames on his back turn blue. His ability must be active. I could see him struggling to move.
"Even I Volcan am not impervious to your eyes" he chuckled. The flame on his back blasted as if a volcano was erupting and he was sliding forward. He's trying to minimize movement under my gaze so he isn't wasting energy, he has done his research on me.
"As clever as you are I can not be beaten" as he got close we grappled with each other I then felt my hands burn from how hot Volcan is. " Swirling poison" I sliced at his chest with my tails covered in poison. He was sent sliding back with his stiff figure."Devil combo xros three" I completely morphed into a ball of black energy. charging towards Volcan not giving room to breathe. Crashing into him and slicing him with my claws the black energy around me left and morphed into five black rings. Restraining his wrists, ankles, and his throat.
"Looks like the match is in Axel's favor!" Mai cheered. Watching Volcan struggle from his restraints as well as struggling to move under my gaze I couldn't help but lick my lips at how submissive he looked.
"Devil combo three: Final Gambit" I then jumped up and sliced a cross on Volcan's chest at the same time the restraints were released. Forcing Volcan straight into the water. I was ready for the announcement of me winning but then Volcan's aura flared and his form changed.
"Damn synergy burst is a terrible thing" I joked since I never use mine. Even with my gaze on Volcan, he was able to move freely. Then an explosion set off sending flying back into the water. In this form, he can set off an explosion instantaneously.
"This match is far from over," Volcan exclaimed. When I got up I was met with a thunder punch to the face and then a stalagmite pushed me up in the air and a full-power fire blast sent me back into the water. I then got up and was letting out heavy pants.
"You are starting to irritate me!" I said in a nasty growl.
Action: I know I didn't use our ending song today but I feel like it would ruin the whole thing that just went down.
Volcan: This is an intense match.
Axel: Whatever. There is no one I can't handle.
Blaze: Remember Volcan is performing this well and just had surgery.
Tyler: Yeah in all honesty I feel like the strongest characters in this series are Volcan and Axel.
Michael: Don't count yourself out either.
Action: Anyway I know this was a long chapter and who will win this whole tournament.
