A Million Ways to Lose a Million Dollars
Previously in part one of The Ridonculous Race grand finale: Our final four teams found maps and searched for underwater treasure. A challenge for Joseé, who needed MacArthur to help her, and for Sadie and Owen, who needed each other. So much saving for just one challenge.
In the end, the Ice Dancers came last after exchanging coconuts with the police cadets and were cut out of the race, but there was no rest for the weary as the race raced right on. Who's got what it takes to win? Find out right here right now on the explosive grand finale of The Ridonculous Race.
The final 3 teams boarded the same plane toward the JFK airport in New York. Even if each team was seated apart, you could cut the atmosphere with a knife. Only one team would get the one million dollar prize.
Plane Confessional: New York, New York
The BFFFLs were in the plane's aisle, making their classic smiles while looking at the camera.
"OH MY GOSH! Sadie, we're going to New York. This must be a dream," said Katie clapping excitedly. "OUCH!"
Sadie pinched Katie's leg. "No, it's not a dream."
"Thanks?" Katie rubbed her leg, frowning at her Best friend. "But I always wanted to visit the Big Apple! Broadway, Manhattan, The empire state…"
"Central Park, Carnegie Hall, the statue of liberty…" added Sadie with the same dreamy expression.
Katie nodded and continued,"The Bronx, The Metropolitan Museum, the Capitol…"
"Wait, Are you sure the Metropolitan Museum and the Capitol are in New York? I think they aren't," Sadie raised a hand, interrupting Katie. "I think the Capitol is in the capital, and the Metropolitan Museum is in Metropolis."
"Sadie you're right. I was mistaken. I'm glad to be the best friend of a person as smart as you," said Katie clapping.
"And I'm so glad to be best friends with someone as kind as you," said Sadie also clapping.
"EEEEEEEEE!" both squeed and hug each other. "Let's win that million, EEEEEEE!"
The three teams arrived in NYC, the Cadets going down first, followed by the BFFFLs, and then the Reality TV Pros. Outside the airport was the Don Box.
Katie pressed the button at the top of the machine, and Sadie read the travel tip.
"All in: Who is ready to face the traffic?: Each team must take one of the Ridonculous Race taxis and drive all the way to the Empire State Building. Once there use the stairs to reach the observation deck and collect your next travel tip attached to a suitcase. Fun fact: the last team to arrive is pretty much doomed. Good luck," Sadie tilted her head, "Do you think doomed means you're out of the race?"
"Yes, so less wondering and more running!" said Katie running toward the taxi.
Katie sat at the wheel while Sadie sat next to her, fastening her seatbelt. The taller BFFFLs then stepped on the gas and sped up toward the street, making the wheels screech.
Confessional: Taxi Driver.
"We're so lucky that the final is a driving challenge," said Katie flexing.
"Yes so lucky," Sadie was frowning, the corners of her mouth pointing downward.
Katie patted her friend's shoulder. "Don't worry Sadie, we have this in the bag."
"Of course we have it," Sadie made a forced smile. "I was just wondering, do you think the producers hate me?"
After pondering a moment, Katie shook her head. "No, I don't. Why do you think so?"
"Oh no, I was just wondering… Just wondering…" Sadie sighed and muttered. "Why it should be a driving challenge…"
The Police cadets were the first to go out of the taxi stop, with Sanders driving, then The reality TV pros with Noah driving and lastly the BFFFLs.
Owen sat next to Noah and fastened his seatbelt. "New York, I can't believe we came back again. Do you remember our first time here, buddy?"
"Are you saying we came to New York before? Sorry it was such a delightful experience that I forgot about it," said Noah rolling his eyes.
"Really? I thought you have a better memory than that," Owen chuckled, not understanding the sarcasm. "It was so fun! With Izzy, Al, Tyler, Cody…"
"Yes, yes, yes, I hate to interrupt your beautiful trip to the memory lane, but we have a race to win. So help me with the map before Katie and Sadie overtake us," said Noah, giving an NYC map to Owen.
"I think it's already too late," said Owen tilting his head.
"What?"
"The girls aren't behind us. They just disappeared," said Owen rubbing his chin, "Maybe Katie is going really fast?"
Noah was as shocked as Owen. The BFFFLs weren't behind nor in front of them. They just disappeared from the expressway.
At the same time, Katie was speeding up, going through a series of streets, and entering the city.
"What are you doing? We're supposed to go through the Van Wyck Expressway until exit 12B. Whatever that means," said Sadie holding a large NYC map that covered all her face.
"Don't worry, it's a shortcut," said Katie smirking.
Sadie raised an eyebrow, "How do you know it's a shortcut if it's your first time in New York?"
"C'mon Sadie, because we watched a lot of movies that occur in NY, and in all of them, the alternative streets are always quicker than the highway and the main street."
"In Toronto, the highway is usually faster than the other roads."
"Yes, but do you remember any chase or action movie filmed in Toronto?"
"I rather not…" said Sadie, not wanting to remember a certain remake.
Katie smiled, "Then just trust me, we'll be in the Empire state in a minute."
"The guide with the map says that we would arrive in the best scenario in 35 minutes," said Sadie, watching the map.
"I was saying that like literally," Katie rolled her eyes.
Sadie pouted, furrowing her brow. "I think literally means that we'll arrive exactly in one minute. You wanted to say rhetorically, which means what you say isn't exactly what it means."
"No, literally mean that you didn't mean what you said. And rhetorically means the opposite," said Katie in a harsh tone.
"Katie, don't be stubborn. You're wrong."
"NO SADIE, YOU'RE WRONG!"
As their discussion heated, the girls didn't see a cat crossing the street.
"KATIE LOOK OUT!" shouted Sadie.
Katie saw the cat and made a hard turn, the wheels screeched, and the taxi went off the street, spinning. Soon the vehicle stopped crashing against a post.
Katie raised her head from the airbag. She was dizzy and her head hurt. After a moment, she remembered what had happened.
"SADIE!?" she shouted, but her best friend wasn't there.
"I'm here Katie!" Sadie's voice came from outside the taxi.
A feeling of relief filled Katie after hearing her friend's voice. She unfastened her seatbelt and tried to open the door, but the door wasn't there anymore, so she just went out of the car.
"Oh my gosh Sadie, I'm so sorry. Are you alright?" asked Katie, hugging her best friend.
"I'm ok, only a little dizzy after so many twirls." Sadie was a little pale, but smiling. "And are you ok?"
Katie flexed her arm, showing her small bicep. "Yes I am. Now let's go to the taxi. We have a race to win."
"I don't think we can use the taxi anymore," said Sadie, tilting her head.
The taller BFFFL turned to look at the car. It crashed against a post lamp, the hood and the bumper split in two, and part of the engine was visible and smoking. The windshield was smashed, the driver's door was missing, and it only had 2 wheels.
"Maybe if I drive slowly, the car can last until we reach the empire state?" said Katie, pouting.
There was a small explosion, and the engine caught on fire. The BFFFLs looked at it with wide eyes.
"I'm not an engineer, but I think we can't use this car anymore," said Sadie, rubbing her chin.
"I think you're right," Katie also rubbed her chin. "But we need to reach the empire state! What should we do?"
Sadie looked around. Maybe they could ask for a new taxi? Then she saw it.
"Look Katie a subway entrance!" said Sadie in an excited tone. "We can use the subway to reach the Empire State Building!"
Katie pouted. "I'm not sure."
"Katie c'mon, it's our best chance!"
"I know but…" Katie whispered that last part.
"Sorry I didn't hear you. Can you repeat that?"
"I'm really bad at navigating on the subway. I always get lost," said Katie, looking at the ground while lowering her eyebrows.
Sadie made a big smile. "Oh, don't worry about it. I'm quite good at navigating."
"Really?" asked Katie tilting her head.
"It's one of my secret talents, so don't think too much about it," Sadie winked. "So let's go."
Katie saluted. "Aye aye Captain!"
They both ran enthusiastically toward the subway, and Sadie was confident that her years guiding Katie would help her.
Over the expressway, the Police Cadets were enjoying their lead.
"I don't see the twins or the Z-list celebrities. That million is as good as ours," said MacArthur putting her hands behind her head and leaning on her seat.
"Don't be so sure. You know the fable of the turtle and the hare?" said Sanders, going as fast as she could.
MacArthur laughed aloud. "HAHAHAHA, c´mon Sanders, everyone knows that is just a silly story to make slow people feel better. How could the hare lose? Those little pests are really fast."
"It's a fable. It isn't meant to be taken literally. The important part is the moral of the story," replied Sanders, who knows the correct meaning of the word literally.
"There is a moral in that story?" MacArthur kept laughing, "An what's the moral? Don't compete against turtles? Or maybe don't sleep during a race? Hahaha."
"Exactly, it's to not count your chickens before they …" Sanders suddenly pressed the brakes, MacArthur hitting the airbag compartment with her head.
The older police officer rubbed her forehead. "HEY! what's the great idea?"
"We're trapped in one of the famous NYC traffic jams," said Sanders sighing.
"You could at least tell me beforehand. What if I hurt my beautiful face?" MacArthur frowned at her teammate, folding her arms.
Sanders raised an eyebrow. "Maybe you should fasten your seatbelt before blaming me for your accident."
"Well that's a good point," said MacArthur, nodding.
A few miles behind them, Noah and Owen were also trapped in the traffic jam.
"This is bad. While we're here the other teams may be arriving at the Empire State," said Owen biting his nails.
"Calm Down. Based on this situation is more probable that the other teams are also trapped in this traffic jam," said Noah, who then extended his hand toward Owen. "Now give me the map."
"But you can't check it while driving," replied Owen putting the piece of paper in his hand.
Noah smirked. "I just want to see the routes to the empire state and point out what would be the best one. I don't have exact data, so I would just use the information we have."
"Noah, you're really smart, buddy," said Owen eating a bite of a long subway sandwich.
"Thanks Owen," Noah then raised his eyebrow. "Where did you get that?"
Owen chuckled. "The sandwich, ehehe, I bought it at the airport and put it in my pocket. It's a Reuben. Do you want a bite?"
"No thanks, I'm sure I'm allergic to the pocket dust of your pants," said Noah, closing his eyes and not wanting to imagine that.
"Ok, your loss," said Owen munching his sandwich happily, while Noah retched.
While the Police Cadets and the Reality TV Pros were looking for ways to escape the traffic jam. Katie and Sadie were the first team to arrive at the Empire state building.
"See, I told you I knew my way in the subway!" said Sadie in a proud tone.
"You're awesome Sadie!" said Katie raising an arm. "Well, you're always awesome, but this time was like extra awesome."
"Aww you're so kind," said Sadie making a big grin.
They entered the lobby and looked at the stairs. Sadie blanched again.
"Stairs again!? Really!?" said the smaller BFFFL, her voice trembling.
"Sadie, calm down. It's not that bad," Katie held her friend's shoulders and looked into her eyes. "You climbed the CN Tower, so I'm sure you can climb the Empire state."
"Really?"
"Yes, the Empire State is smaller, so just believe in yourself," said Katie, winking.
"Ahahaha, if it's smaller then I can do it! Thanks, Katie," Sadie smiled confidently. Then both friends began to run upstairs.
Confessional: Vertigo
Katie was in front of the camera, her eyes darting back and forth. She was smiling nervously.
"I want to apologize to Sadie, because I'm not sure if the Empire state is bigger or smaller than the CN Tower," said Katie, bowing.
She then scratched her cheek, "I mean, it's possible that the CN is taller, and this was technically not a lie. But it's also possible the other way around."
"So either way I just lied because I wanted to motivate you, Sadie. I hope when you see this confessional everything worked out, and we're half-million dollars richer," said Katie winking at the camera.
While the BFFFLS started running toward the observation deck, the Police cadets were still trapped in the traffic jam.
"Ugh! This is ridiculous! We haven't moved in 15 minutes," said Sanders, frowning at the traffic.
"Don't worry, I have an idea!" said MacArthur, who lowered the window, put her head out, and began to howl.
Sanders chuckled. "You sound like a dog. But it's a great idea."
"Like all my ideas, but it isn't working," said MacArthur snapping her fingers.
"Let me do it, Wee-woo, wee-woo!" Sanders cupped her mouth with one hand and began to imitate a police siren. In contrast with her partner, she sounded like the real thing.
The cars in front of them start to pull over to let them pass.
MacArthur smiled with wide eyes. "It's working. Keep going Sanders!"
However the police cadets weren't the only ones that were doing well avoiding the city traffic.
The TV Pros taxi came out of an alleyway and entered a small one-direction street.
"Noah, are you sure this is the right path?" asked Owen, holding the handle on the car's top.
"Yes I'm sure, I studied the guide, and we need to turn the 23rd street and look at that," Noah turned into a way street and found a park after advancing a little.
Owen tilted his head. "A park?"
"Yes, as usual your observation skills are top-notch," said Noah, wondering why he even tried.
"Oh,oh,oh I know! It's Central Park!" Owen clapped happily. "We were here on WT."
Noah raised an eyebrow. "Close but no cigar… This is Madison Square Park."
Owen looked at him with a blank expression.
"Just look at the front," said Noah, sighing.
"Woohoo! I can see the Empire state building," Owen cheered, raising both arms.
Noah smirked. "Exactly."
As the other teams were getting closer to the Empire State, Katie and Sadie arrived at the Observation deck.
"And we're here! We did it!" shouted Katie, raising her arms and covered in sweat.
"Y-yes," Sadie huffed and puffed. "We're here, it wasn't s-so bad."
Katie hugged her friend. "And you did a great job! You're awesome."
"You too…" said Sadie forcing a smile. "Now, take the briefcase while I rest my legs a little."
"And look, there are three suitcases. It means we're the first team to arrive!" said Katie, jumping joyfully.
Sadie raised a hand slowly and muttered in a low voice. "Woohoo…"
Katie took the travel tip from the suitcase and read it aloud.
"Central Delivery: Take this briefcase to the mid-point chill zone in Central Park. Sounds quite easy," said Katie smiling.
"Don't jinx us," said Sadie, recovering her breath. "I'm not sure if I can survive going down the stairs."
"Don't worry. I have a plan," Katie winked at her friend,
Meanwhile, the Police Cadets Arrived arrived at the Empire State building.
"There are no more taxis here. We should be in first place!" said MacArthur, unfastening her seatbelt.
"Now let's find a parking spot," said Sanders, looking at right and left
MacArthur widened her eyes. "WHAT!? Just leave it on the sidewalk!"
"Imitating a siren is one thing, but I'm not planning to park illegally," said Sanders, nodding.
"NOOO!" protested MacArthur as Sanders began to drive away.
Just after them, the Reality TV Pros parked on the sidewalk in front of the Empire state's door.
"No other taxis. It seems we're in first place," Noah smirked as he got out of the car.
"Isn't parking on the sidewalk illegal?" asked Owen, following his friend.
"No as long as they don't catch you," said Noah in a snarky tone.
Owen dried the sweat from his forehead. "Phew, I was worried we were doing something illegal."
They began to climb the stairs. After 700 steps, Owen began to feel tired.
"This … is … hard," said the big guy taking a breath.
"Just focus Owen, we may be in the first place, but we can't be overconf…" Noah was interrupted by a loud scream.
"NOAAAAH!" shouted Katie while sliding on the handrail.
"OWEEEENN!" shouted Sadie, also sliding on the handrail, with a briefcase in her hand.
Both passed so quickly that it took a moment for the Reality TV Pros to realize what was happening.
"What the…?" asked Noah, blinking a couple of times.
Owen chuckled. "It seems we aren't in first place after all."
"I'm not sure if they're stupider or smarter than me. Anyway we don't have time to waste. Let's hurry!" said Noah as he started running again, followed by a tired Owen.
In the lobby, without a way to brake, Katie crashed against the floor.
"Ouch," she said rubbing her butt. "The landing could be better."
Katie eyes went wide when she remembered what was she doing but it was too late. Sadie crashed against her.
The chubbier BFFFL groaned and then smiled. "Katie, you caught me! Thank you!"
"Any time Sadie," Katie groaned weakly, giving her a thumbs up.
As they recovered, the police cadets entered the building.
"Move it or lose it, fake twins," said MacArthur jumping over them.
Sanders ran around them. "Don't think you already won. See you soon."
"See ya," said both BFFFLs, waving at them.
On the stairs, MacArthur frowned. "The nerve…"
"Hehehe, I'm also surprised they were the first team to arrive, but I told you they were good," said Sanders, smirking.
"I don't care about that!" said MacArthur in a harsh tone. "I can't believe they were sleeping after taking the briefcase. Do they think they're hares or something?"
Sanders chuckled, but she was as anxious as her partner. They need to hurry.
Back in the lobby, the BFFFLs recovered and went out of the building, finding the Reality TV Pros taxi on the sidewalk.
"Look Katie! The show send us another taxi!" said Sadie, clapping happily.
"Really!? I didn't think they would," Katie tilted her head.
Sadie entered the car and fastened her seatbelt. "It's because they care, now hurry."
There was something fishy about the taxi, but Katie decided to not think too hard about it. Sadie was the smart one, after all. She took the driver's seat, fastened her seatbelt, and stepped on the pedal.
"Next stop, Central Park, EEEEEEEEEE!" said both BFFFL at the same time
Confessional: Taxi driver part II
"To be honest I'm not sure if the taxi was sent by the show or not," Sadie blushed and rubbed her head. "But I didn't want to keep walking, so I decided to take the risk."
Back in the Empire State, Owen was panting and running behind Noah. They still needed to climb up some stairs before arriving at the Observation deck when suddenly someone shouted at them.
"Get out of the way tv extras!" said MacArthur as she overtook them.
"Excuse us," said Sanders, following her teammate.
Noah's face reddened, and he balled his fists. "OWEN! Hurry up! We're in last place!"
"YES!" shouted Owen making an effort and running all the way to the observation deck.
As they entered the Police cadets were already on their way out.
"See ya losers!" said MacArthur, making a raspberry as she ran down the stairs.
"Sorry not sorry," Sanders waved and also ran down the stairs.
Noah got into the deck and took the travel tip.
"If we don't arrive at Central park before them, we're out of the race. LET'S GO!" shouted Noah, glaring at Owen.
"Sorry little buddy, but I'm not sure if I can run that fast," said Owen huffing and puffing.
"Don't worry Owen, I have an idea. But you need to go first," said Noah, smirking.
Meanwhile, the BFFFLs were parking at central park.
"Look Katie. It's Don," said Sadie in an excited tone.
"Oh MY GOSH! I can't believe it. We're in first place!" said Katie, her eyes sparkling.
"EEEEEEEEEE!" The BFFFLs ran and squeed all the way to the chill zone, jumping joyfully. Don put his fingers on his ears, frowning.
"Yes, yes, all I'm also glad, now if you let me…" the host tried to talk but they kept screaming.
"EEEEEEE!"
Don glared at them."Before announcing your placement…"
"EEEEEEE!"
"SHUT UP!" shouted Don, his face reddened and with some veins visible in his neck.
"Ok, we'll be quiet."
"Yes, there is no need to get angry."
Don cleared his throat and recovered his composure. "To make official your placing, please give the travel tip."
"Of course," said Katie smiling. "Sadie give him the travel tip."
"Eh? Katie, I don't have the travel tip," said Sadie, tilting her head.
Katie chuckled nervously. "C'mon Sadie, that's not funny."
Don looked at them and raised both eyebrows. "This must be a joke."
"No Katie, I don't have it," said Sadie, looking for the tip in her pockets.
"Are you sure? Look again," said Katie, also looking in her pockets.
Don rubbed his neck. "Girls, I'm afraid that without tip…"
"Just a minute, I'm sure we have it," said Katie raising a hand.
"Yes, don't be impatient," said Sadie, searching in her backpack.
The BFFFLs were sweating while Don took out his phone and looked at the hour.
"I FOUND IT!" said Katie giving the travel tip to the host, "I put it in my backpack."
"Excellent, you worried me for a moment," said Don chuckling. "Now go to the Don Box over there and take the next travel tip. Good Luck."
"Thanks Don!"
"You're the best!"
Saying this, both BFFFLS ran toward the Don box. Don just looked at them, making a small smile. They were without a doubt the more annoying team in the competition, but their enthusiasm was contagious.
Katie pressed the button, and Sadie read the ticket.
"All in, boats will be boats: go to the boathouse and use one of the boats to search the buoys in the middle of the pond for the combination that will unlock your briefcase," read Sadie, making a big smile. "At least it isn't a race."
"Let's go to the boathouse!" shouted Katie raising an arm and running.
"Wait for me!" shouted Sadie, following her.
Back to the Empire State, the police cadets were already on the floor 20 and running down,
"Hurry up Sanders. We can't let those starlets catch us," shouted MacArthur.
"I'm just behind you," said Sanders, who then got distracted. "Did you hear something?"
MacArthur buffed. "I only hear the sound of my…" then she heard it. It was like two people screaming. "Now that you mention it."
And suddenly, Owen and Noah passed them quickly. The big guy was sliding down on the handrail. Noah was on Owen's back, holding the big guy's shirt for dear life. Both were screaming in high-pitched voices with wide eyes and blanched expressions.
As they passed, the handrail fell, not enduring their combined weight.
"Those cheaters!" shouted MacArthur hitting her hand with her fist.
"You can get angry later, focus on running," shouted Sander, pulling her partner as she began running again.
As the Police Cadets tried to catch up, the Reality TV Pros arrived on the first floor. Flying and crashing against the floor, making a big dent.
"Ouch, that hurt a lot more than I expected," said Owen, his voice muffled with his face buried in the floor.
"You can rest in the taxi big guy. Let's go," said Noah, pulling Owen by his arm.
Owen stood up. His face was red, his hair disheveled, and his shirt and pants dirty. He followed Noah, staggering while running.
"Oh no! Someone stole our taxi," said Noah, snapping his fingers.
"Hehehe, that's New Yor for you," Owen chuckled, still a little dizzy.
Noah gave him a death glare. "Just forget about it, and let's take that one."
"But Noah, that our taxi was stolen doesn't justify we stole someone else taxi. That just perpetuates the cycle…"
"I understand what you mean. You hit your head during the landing. Now enter the car and rest while we arrive at Central Park," said Noah interrupting him and fastening his belt.
Owen shrugged and entered the car. "If you insist, but you're perpetuating a vicious circle."
"The only vicious circle here it's you on a buffet. So stop complaining and fasten your seatbelt," said Noah, speeding up.
As the Reality TV Pros departed, the Police cadets exited the building.
"HEY! THAT'S OUR TAXI, YOU THIEVES!" shouted MacArthur raising her fist.
"Don't waste time. We need to find another way to arrive at Central park," said Sanders, running toward Central Park.
MacArthur then smiled. "Wait a minute, I found our vehicle."
In Central Park, the BFFFLs were looking for the boathouse without any luck.
"I can't believe we can't find it?" said Katie, huffing and puffing.
"Maybe we should try asking someone, or at least let me guide us," said Sadie, also huffing and puffing.
Katie shook her head. "No, I'm sure we're close, just follow me."
"Katie, you're lost. Admit it. We're running in circles," said Sadie, rubbing her legs.
"No, we aren't! How could you say something like that?"
Sadie didn't answer and just pointed out something with her thumb.
"Are you still here? Shoo, shoo, go and win that million," said Don dismissing them with one hand.
Katie blushed. "Ok, you guide us."
"Leave it to me," said Sadie hitting her chest.
As the BFFFLs kept looking, the Reality TV Pros were speeding up in "their" taxi.
"NOAH, Central Park is just ahead!" shouted Owen. "We did it."
"Don't get cocky, those cadets are resourceful. I won't be suPRIS…"
Noah was interrupted when a hotdog car rammed them. The impact was so strong that it Knocked down their taxi.
"BOOOYAAA!" shouted MacArthur, while Sanders drove the hotdog car toward Central Park.
"Oh my, oh my, oh my, I want one of those!" shouted Owen, clapping happily.
Noah unfastened his seatbelt and ran out of the taxi. "If we win I'll buy you one, but right now, focus on running."
Owen jumped off the taxi, and both began to run toward the mid-chill zone.
But they were way behind the Police Cadets, who arrived at the Chill point, raising their arms victoriously,
"Looks like team number 2 is here!" Said Don, making a small smile.
"WE DID IT! We're still in the race" cheered Sanders.
Don smiled. "Well, once you hand me your tip, yes."
MacArthur took out the tip, showing it victoriously when a gust of wind blew the ticket away.
"OH NO!" shouted Sanders.
"COME BACK HERE!" MacArthur began to run behind the piece of paper, but it flew away quickly.
When the wind finally stopped, the tip slipped into the sewers through a rain cover.
"Darn it," said Sanders, looking at the tip in the bottom.
At the park entrance, Noah and Owen were sweating and running.
"I think we can't catch them," said Owen, huffing, puffing, and sweating a lot.
"Don't give up! See, the cadets are struggling, we still have a chance," Noah smirked. He was also sweating buckets, and although Owen didn't seem to notice it, he was running slower and slower.
Then Noah had an idea. "And look, there is a hot dog cart next to the Chill Zone."
"HOT DOG CART!" shouted Owen, and he began to dash toward the chill zone faster than before, carrying Noah under his arm.
At the same time MacArthur was trying to take off the rain cover.
"It doesn't budge," MacArthur pulled the cover with all her strength, but it didn't move.
"Hurry, the TV Pros are coming," said Sanders, looking at them running through the entrance.
MacArthur put her hand into the sewer's cover but the opening was too tight and she couldn't reach the tip.
"It's impossible. My arm can't bend in that way," said MacArthur, scoffing. "It seems we're done."
"No we-"
But before Sanders could finish her sentence, she was interrupted by a loud shout.
"WOOOOOOW!" Owen shouted and reached the Chill zone.
"Reality Tv pros, your tip please," said Don extending his arm. Noah put the tip on the host's hand.
"Congratulations, you're in second. Now take your travel tip and run," said Don, who then walked toward the police cadets. "Sanders, MacArthur."
"I know, I know. I just ruined everything," MacArthur sighed sadly.
Sanders patted her shoulder. "It was an accident, and you didn't ruin it. Without you, we won't be here right now."
"Sanders is right. It's a shame you let go of the travel tip, but you were one of the strongest teams in the game. That's why it's a shame to tell you're eliminated from the race. Good fight," said Don nodding. "Now follow me, the last challenge is ongoing."
"Darn it," said MacArthur, sniffing. "Sanders, it was an honor to be your teammate."
"Don't say it like that. Even if the race is over we're still partners," Sanders, also sniffed, trying to hold her tears. "So don't cry and let's go and cheer for the remaining teams."
"I'M NOT CRYING!" shouted MacArthur, drying her tears with an arm. "It's my allergies that decided to act right now."
Sanders smiled. "Of course they are."
Owen and Noah were running toward the boathouse, the big guy eating 2 hot dogs at the same time. Meanwhile, the BFFFLs had already arrived at the boathouse.
"Sadie look, we find the boathouse," said Katie excitedly.
"It was closer than I thought," replied Sadie. "Now let's hurry before the next team arrives.
They rowed toward the first buoy, but they couldn't find any number on them.
"Maybe this is the wrong boathouse?" asked Sadie, tilting her head.
"Maybe, but then why are there so many buoys in this lake," said Katie also tilting her head.
Sadie shrugged. "Maybe they're really fashionable."
But as they talked the Reality TV Pros arrived at the lake, boarding a boat and rowing toward them.
"I guess this is the correct place," Katie bit her lower lip.
"If it's the correct place where are the combinations?" asked Sadie, frowning and putting her hands on her hips. "Are we supposed to jump in the water and look for them?"
"Sadie that it's the answer, you're a genius," said Katie, covering her mouth in excitement.
"I am?" asked Sadie, not understanding what was her friend saying.
Katie held a buoy and pulled it out of the water. On its base were 3 golden numbers.
"Eight, three, two," Sadie tried the combination, "it's not opening!"
"Let's row to the next one."
Owen and Noah also row next to a buoy. Owen pulled it out of the water, smiling, "It's not as heavy as I thought. Six, Eight, E?"
"Did you say E?" asked Noah raising an eyebrow.
"Hehehe sorry, I mean Three, eight, nine," said the big guy, blushing.
Noah sighed and tried the combination,"it's a dud. Let's go for the next one."
While the teams were looking for the correct combination, Don went to the final chill zone. There the 32 eliminated competitors were waiting in the bleachers. Don stood on the final carpet of completion, the suitcase with the million on a table next to him
"The BFFFL and the Reality TV Pros are neck to neck as they hit their boats searching for the combination of their suitcase," said Don in an excited voice. "Inside it awaits the last tip that will send them to the final chill zone. Whoever gets here first will win ONE MILLION DOLLARS!"
"Please Noah," said Emma crossing her fingers. Kitty rubbed her back. Then they were startled by a sudden shout.
"SADIE YOU CAN DO IT!" shouted Brody, cupping his mouth with his hands.
Geoff laughed. "Dude relax, she can't hear you yet."
"I know, but my feelings will reach her," said Brody smiling. Suddenly he was startled by a shout.
"NOAH, YOU'RE THE BEST!" shouted Emma, who then smirked mockingly toward the confused surfer dudes.
At the same time, the competition in the lake was a close one. Both teams rowed, pulled, and read as many combinations as fast as they could.
"Five, one, five."
"Zero, three, eight."
"Two, three, four."
"One, four, six, sorry I mean nine."
"Three, one, seven."
"Zero, zero, nine."
It was a close competition, but none of the suitcases opened.
"So many different numbers hurt my head," said Owen, pulling the next buoy. "Six, nine, six."
"Hang in there Big guy," said Noah while putting the combination and then click.
Owen blanched "Sorry I mean Nine, six, nine!"
"Don't mind Owen, let's go!" said Noah, opening the suitcase.
"Oh no! Noah and Owen already opened the suitcase," said Sadie covering her mouth.
Katie pulled another buoy, "Don't worry and focus on our game, "Two, Two, Six."
Sadie put the combination and click. "YOU DID IT KATIE!" inside was a golden travel tip.
"It's a map to the Chill Zone!" Both shouted at the same time. "Let's go."
Owen and Noah were rowing as fast as they could. But Katie and Sadie were faster.
"Wow, they really are good at rowing. Look how synchronized they are," said Owen, whistling.
"Owen, less admiring and more rowing, there are a million reasons to focus on the prize," said Noah while rowing faster.
The BFFFLs arrived first and began to run toward the final Chill zone, the Reality TV Pros arriving at shore soon after.
Team Confessional: It's our time
"After being eliminated in Vietnam, I never thought we would be here," said Katie fist-pumping.
"Well, I still think it's a dream," Sadie smiled and then covered her cheeks. "No need to pinch me."
Katie snapped her fingers. "How boring."
"But I'm sure if we're here it was because I was with Katie," said Sadie grabbing her best friend's hand.
"What are you saying? It was because I was with you, Sadie," said the taller BFFFL.
"LET'S WIN TOGETHER! EEEEEEEEE" both squeed together.
Team Confessional: First place
"After so many reality shows, it seems it's our moment at last," Noah smirked. "First place, here we come."
"To be honest, I already won first place in total drama, so it's not like we never win anything," said Owen chuckling.
Noah just frowned at him.
"But it'll be more awesome to get our first place together, little buddy!" said Owen offering a fist bump.
"Let's get that million together buddy, and then we can make a victory party with all the food you like," said Noah, his frown turning into a smirk.
"WOO-HOOO! Let's get that prize," shouted Owen raising his hands.
"Why is always running," said Sadie while running faster.
"Don't give up, Sadie. It's the last one!" Katie shouted, cheering for her best friend.
"I can't … keep … going!" said Owen, huffing and puffing.
"Owen, there is a victory buffet if we get first places," said Noah, who was also getting tired.
"BUFFEEETTT!" Owen eyes reddened and he began to run faster than before, Noah making an effort to keep up with him.
The race was a close one, the BFFFLs had the lead but the Reality TV Pros were faster and had already beat them in a foot race two times in the past.
From the bleachers, people were supporting both teams.
"SADIE DON'T GIVE UP."
"YOU CAN OVERTAKE THEM NOAH, JUST A LITTLE MORE!"
The teams entered the stretch. The bleachers roared while supporting their favorite team. And when they were about to reach the carpet…
RUMBLE!
A small tremor filled the place. Everyone went silent … The winner was decided.
New York is almost over, who will be the winner? Find out next week.
Next week will be the conclusion, who will win? The BFFFL or the reality tv pros? Let me know in the reviews.
I was quite excited to write this episode because I could try some things with the BFFFL and the reality TV Pros. It's true I used some of the Surfer dude and Ice dancers gags, but in general I tried to give them their own twist to their race. I hope you enjoy it.
Teams eliminated: Father and Son, Tennis rivals, Geniuses, The Larpers, Vegetarians, fashion bloggers, Mother and daughter, Adversity twins, Rockers, Daters, Best friends, Goths, BFFFL(returned), The Sisters, Surfer Dudes, Ice Dancers, Police cadets.
And before closing let me answer the last week's reviews:
EscopeNotIzzy: Ok, being honest in the original draft I thought about finishing the fic in Australia 2 with the rockers, but I thought the last chapters were a little darker and I wanted to have a more satisfying resolution of Katie arc, so I decided to let them go further and here we are.
About the Ice Dancers, usually, they end in third, but I think the BFFFL had a closer relationship with the police cadets, so I eliminated Joseé and Jacques first. And If I would eliminate them, I wanted to give them a nice farewell.
Gman5846: Thanks, who do you think will win?
As always, thanks for reading and I hope you like it
