Freddy looked at Saphira's sleeping form as she was laid in the bed in the office. Her injury to her stomach had been wrapped with bandages, the cut on her neck was clean and a cold pack was still resting on her forehead. She looked very pale, there was a light layer of sweat on her body and they had worked out she was starting to run a fever. It worried them because whatever happened in the lobby when they were cut off from her has caused this. He did not know what to do for her. They were waiting for Darren to arrive as he had responded and he was on his way. They were given instruction on what to do. An empty bucket in case she wakes up and needs to vomit again, multiple cold packs in the freezer to replace on her forehead when the one on her forehead gets too warm, keep blankets over her to keep her warm even if she is sweating and just to be there for her. Those were easy instructions to follow.
Freddy looked at Mr Hippo and Pigpatch, both animatronics were standing there with a lot of worry on their faces. "Are you both able to tell me what might have happened?" They look at him in surprise at the question. "You seem to have a lot of knowledge about the virus. Now it has hurt her! It cut us off, and it hurt her!"
"It is true we knew a lot about the virus," Mr Hippo responded calmly, understanding the concern Freddy had for the girl. "However, I don't know what more he has planned. I am sorry. Pigpatch, do you know more?"
The pig animatronic was silent for a moment before sighing. "I am not sure. The virus used to be a man, as far as I know." The animatronics look at him in shock when he spoke about it. "However, the virus has been trying to create a new body. You already thwarted the first attempt. That does not mean he won't try a different method. The issue is…" Pigpatch glanced down at Saphira with a worried expression. "The injury on her stomach makes me think something was injected into her to ensure that will happen. I doubt she is pregnant now…but…I don't know."
Freddy didn't like the answers, but he believed them both. He did not want to leave her side at all. He only would be forced to if he had to recharge. Thankfully, he recharged before he raced out of his room to try and rescue her. He did not know what to do. He felt like they had done what they could.
"And for once, it happened when she was with you," Monty said in a sad, gentle tone. "Unlike before when she went off to do something away from us…it shows it does not matter if we are with her or not. Where there is a will, there is a way…that is what it seems."
"You are not helping Monty," Bonnie said, shaking his head at him with a frown.
The gator looked at his boyfriend sadly. "I know…I was just stating the fact…I guess…" He looked back at Saphira sadly. "We are doing what we can. I doubt she can even go home like this, she might be forced to stay."
Freddy didn't know if he wanted that. He would have been thrilled if she stayed in the pizzaplex, but not like this. He didn't even want to go through the day knowing she is sick and injured. "I remember seeing on the TV humans have soup when sick. Chica Chowder has soups."
"I doubt she is going to want food right now, Freddy," Chica said with a hand on her hip. "At least, not yet. I know she should eat, but we can't force her if she is sick. I've hardly dealt with a sick human, so this is a new experience."
The elevator dings and they all turn to look as the doors open. Darren, who was wearing a plain, grey suit, stepped out and stopped in shock when he saw Foxette, Orville, Pigpatch and Happy Frog. "Oh…" He smiled briefly when he saw them. "She is so talented…I am so sorry this happened." He ran over to Saphira and looked over her body. "Oh dear…what happened?"
"Saphira got chased by some kind of Music Man with no casing," Freddy responded calmly as he watched Darren step away and walk over to grab a first aid kit from the wall. "It…it injected something into her abdoman. We think…"
"What?" Darren paused for a second before he pulled the blankets back and Saphira her bandaged stomach. "Oh…oh no…"
"Please tell me you know what happened to her!" Freddy pleads and watched Darren grab out a thermometer to place into her mouth.
The man sighed deeply and looked at Freddy sadly. "All I know is he wants a new body Freddy. One perfect creation mixed of living metal and flesh. He achieved it. He will stop at nothing for it. Saphira isn't pregnant. I can promise you that."
Freddy seemed relieved at that. "That is good news!"
"No, it is not." Darren looked away and checked the thermometer. "Tsk, tsk, tsk…her fever is so high."
"What do you mean it isn't good news?" Mr Hippo asked curiously with a worried frown. "Are you saying…that the virus still could get her pregnant."
"No…he's moved on from that." The man felt the cold pack on her forehead for a second. "Get another cold pack please, I'll replace this one." Foxette was quick to grab one out of the freezer and bring over to him. Darren smiled at her. "It is so good to see you in your new glory Foxette. I am sorry we could not help you sooner."
"I know, and it is okay. But…as long as Saphira gets better, it will make things better for all of us," Foxette said gently. "I should be able to help Saphira, I was given some new instruction before the virus hacked my system and took control. One to help sick humans."
"Yeah, I know. But…" Darren unwrapped the cloth to remove the warm cold pack and he saw the huge lump on her forehead, making him wince and place the pack on it and wrap it. "This is going to be difficult…just…the stuff she was given might change her behavior slightly…"
"What do you mean? Darren, you know something, why can't you tell us?" Bonnie asked, stepping closer as he was starting to get impatient. "We need to know it now!"
Darren had tears in his eyes as he looked back at the animatronics, surprising them. "I am sorry. If I really knew what this plan was, I would tell you. I don't know. I only know she isn't pregnant…I hope for that anyway. But I only know that it might change her behavior depending on what exactly he gave her. I cannot tell you what you want to know. Alright?"
The animatronics glance at each other sadly. "Sorry, we thought you knew," Bonnie said, stepping back and rubbing the back of his head. "It is very difficult for us to see Saphira like that."
"I know. She will get better, I am sure." Darren stood up with a sigh. "Alright…" He turned to face Freddy. "You will be given permission to be removed from Wednesday's activities." The animatronic smiled, he was so happy he could remain by Saphira's side. "Did she get around to Mr Hippo and Bonnie tonight for maintenance?"
"She only go to do the maintenance on Bonnie," Mr Hippo responded gently. "I am afraid my hatch cannot be used today."
"You will also be removed from today. Since we do have Foxette, Happy Frog, Orville and Pigpatch back…" Darren rubbed his chin thoughtfully on that. "Actually, Foxette can stay to help. She's the only one here who was given the new system upgrade to help assist with sick humans."
"I am unsure if we want to have our return announced while Saphira is sick," Pigpatch said gently. "I would rather stay here and help."
"In all honesty, there might be too many of you helping if I let you stay Pigpatch," Darren said calmly to them. "I know she is well loved, you are her family and I know she's your family. But we cannot let the rest of the staff and guests know that too. People won't understand."
"Yet, you are able to somehow." The man looked at Roxy as she had a point. "I don't think people will worry if they knew. But, I suppose after the incident between myself and Freddy when we were caught kissing, I can understand why. We won't tell anyone about it."
"I only understand because I too had someone I wanted to have a relationship with." The animatronics look at Darren in surprise. "But he's dead now. However, I think of Saphira as a sister myself. She's so kind, strong and brave…I want to help her. But like her, I am chained to this place now. She can't escape even if she left."
"You were the one who told her it would follow her home," Freddy said as he listened to Darren and realized he had warned Saphira. "Does that mean if she left on the first week, she would have been safe?" He nodded. Freddy grimaced and shakes his head. "What can we do to protect her?"
"Nothing but support her," Darren responded, looking down at Saphira. "I don't think she will wake up for a while. However, I can't be in here all the time. So I will need you animatronics to help her as best as you can. First of all, check her temperature again in a couple hours, if it is higher than this…" He points to the red line on the thermometer. "Let me know and I'll bring up bags of ice to pour into the tub in the bathroom to try and bring her fever down, any higher than this can be deadly."
"Got it. How will you do that without getting anyone suspicious?" Mr Hippo asked curiously, tilting his head slightly at the man for more information.
"I will think of something. Second, if she does make up, do be gentle. I am sure you can do that." Darren smiled at the animatronics as they nod affirmatively. "Thirdly, um, if she asks you keep her company Freddy, don't deny her. That's kind of part of being gentle. She'll want to be close to you for comfort." He nodded, he would be there for her regardless. "Help her if she wants to stand, if she does vomit, let her empty her stomach when she needs to. But make sure she keeps drinking water, even if she keep vomitting it, she needs to stay hydrated. Only empty the bucket into the toilet if it's too full or if she goes back to sleep."
"And wash it afterwards right?" Foxette asked curiously and Darren nodded. "Got it! Alright…I guess we should get her new clothes. They're dirty. I have no doubt she will want a bath when she wakes."
"Freddy can help her with that, but yes, I will get her some sleepwear from the stores so she is comfortable. She may, or may not want to do her duties tonight. But I will clock her off at six if she does not wake before than to do it." He did what he could for her right now, Darren knew Saphira could potentially be here for a few days. "I will go and get something fresh to wear, keep her company. Try not to crowd her when it looks like she's waking up. You might scare her, depending on her mind."
Darren did hope she won't need an actual doctor. It would be really hard to explain her injuries to them. He knew doing that would get a lot of people in trouble. With only an hour until six, Darren didn't think Saphira would wake before than. This was going to be a long day for him. He left the office to get pyjamas for Saphira, a comfortable, casual outfit and a fresh uniform if she wanted to change into later. He brought some comfortable pillows as well, and he made sure that the animatronics knew how to help her take aspirin if she needs it, which she probably will. After that, it was just a waiting game.
Five hours pass, Darren did as he promised to clock Saphira out for her so no one would suspect she was still in the building. He managed to convince most of the animatronics to resume normal duties while Mr Hippo, Freddy and Foxette remained in the office with Saphira. They all wanted to stay by her side, it was perfectly normal, but they had guests that needed them too. Freddy barely left Saphira's side. He wanted to lay with her in the bed to comfort her, but he did not. He did manage to change her in the pyjamas, reluctantly accepting Mr Hippo's help with that. He didn't want her to wake up feeling dirty from the clothes she wore. Thankfully, the lump on her head had gone down at this point, not completely, but it wasn't as big as before. They kept reapplying the cold packs though so that way it would continue to go down as quickly as possible.
During this time though, Saphira slowly began to stir. It was not noticeable at first, but when Freddy was rubbing the back of her hand gently he felt her fingers stretch out to his palm to grasp it. He was so happy, but he didn't try to force her to wake up. He said nothing, he only continued rubbing her hand gently so she knew she was not alone. Everything hurt though. Her head was pounding, her stomach still felt like it had a knife in it and her body just generally ached all over. Her stomach twisted uncomfortably, making her feel the horrid threat of nausea. She opened her eyes slightly, her sight was blurry and the dim lights of the room still blinded her. She grimaced with whine for a moment before she felt a strong sense of nausa.
She groaned and covered her mouth, sitting up quickly, wincing at the throbbing of her head. "Saphira, you're…" Freddy stopped when she held up her other hand to stop him and he realized she was about to be sick. "Oh, here." He picked up the bucket and gave it to her. It wasn't even a second before she began to heave heavily into the bucket. He grimaced but he steadied the bucket as he saw her hands were shaking and Mr Hippo walked closer to place his hand on her back, rubbing gently. "Let it all out Saphira. It will feel better once you do."
Saphira didn't respond, she stopped heaving, but the nausea was not going away. "It is okay Saphira, you are safe with us." She glanced up and blinked wearily, she saw only Mr Hippo, Foxette and Freddy. "You have been out for quite a few hours." She didn't know how long that was, but she glanced down and saw she was wearing a set of Freddy pyjamas. She felt herself blush when she realized she had been dressed. "Do not worry, Freddy was the only one to do that."
Freddy rolled his eyes at Mr Hippo before he spoke to Saphira. "Darren gave you those to wear…" She looked at him in surprise and he nodded. "He is aware of what happened. He said you should stay, you're not fit to drive home." Saphira wasn't going to argue, though she worried how it will affect her work. "Which is why you were given fresh clothes, the ones before were dirty and damaged anyway."
Saphira just nodded silently before she gagged again and began to heave into the bucket again. "Don't worry about anything for now Saphira, just focus getting well again. Darren will be taking care of everything for you." Mr Hippo continued to rub her back gently as she heaved again. "We will look after you."
Saphira stopped heaving and she looked up at Freddy and glanced at Mr Hippo with a smile. "Thank you…" She managed to say in a croaky voice. "I definitely don't feel good. Everything hurts…"
"Would aspirin help?" Foxette asked with a smile. "We have some right here for you."
"Wait until I am sure I am not going to throw up again," Saphira responded weakly, shaking her head slightly with a grimace. "But thanks for the offer Foxette."
"Well, whatever you need, do let us know. Darren told us we will be responsible for you for a little while. He will do what he can though when he can." Freddy rubbed his thumb on the back of her hand as he kept the bucket steady for her. "Although…I have to admit." He turned his head away from the bucket. "I wish I couldn't smell vomit. It's horrid."
"Sorry, can't help it," Saphira said with a slight smile. "I think I am fine now. You can tip it in the toilet and flush it away now. I don't think I will be able to walk myself yet."
Freddy nodded and moved to stand only for Mr Hippo to take the bucket. "Allow me, you stay with Saphira."
Freddy chuckled a little and looked at Saphira, he saw she was rubbing her stomach with worry on her face. "We've been assured you are not pregnant Saphira." She looked up at him as he spoke to her. "But…you might not be yourself. Darren thinks you'll have a personality change."
"He does? Well…I might…" Saphira shrugged a little. "Would you mind holding me? My body feels like jelly, I can't even shuffle closer to you."
"Of course, super star." Freddy smiled as he moved to get around her on the bed and sit beside her, pulling her in for a hug. "I had suspected you would need me to comfort you. I have my whole day free to spend with you. I might ask Darren to do the same for tomorrow."
That would depend on how she was feeling, but that sounded really, really nice. Saphira's eyes were heavy as she leaned against him with her cheek resting against his chest. "This is so nice…if only it were under better circumstances."
He kissed her forehead gently and she smiled weakly. "I agree." He rubbed her side gently as they stay huddled together. "How is your stomach?"
"It still feels yuck, but I think I will be fine." Saphira glanced at Foxette with a smile. "I might take that aspirin now. Just get me a cup of water so I can take it."
Foxette nodded and walked over to the soda machine to fill a cup with water. It was good it had a water option on it. Saphira felt so tired, sore and weak. She probably would go back to sleep soon. Mr Hippo returned after cleaning the bucket and walked over to place it by the bed. She felt bad she couldn't fix the stomach hatch for him, but there was nothing she could do about that right now.
"Alright, here you go," Foxette said, bringing over the cup of water and pack of aspirin. "Freddy can help you with that."
Saphira did not mind, Freddy took hold of the cup and she grabbed the aspirin pack to push out the tablets. She held them in her palm and popped them in her mouth. Freddy moved the cup so the straw was touching her lips and she was quick to take a drink, gulping slowly to not upset her stomach. She moved her lips away and relaxed against Freddy. She took in a deep breath, she thought about what happened to her and what we injected into her abdoman. It scared her. She didn't know what it could be. The virus told her that he couldn't force her to become pregnant, something about that sent shivers down her spine. Freddy did not have the fertile product that the fake Freddy had in the warehouse, at least, she did not think so. Otherwise there was no need to inject her with something.
"Would you like something to eat at all?" Foxette asked her gently, Saphira was quick to grimace and shake her head. "Understandable. You're not ready for food yet."
"I just want to sleep…" Saphira turned her head a little into Freddy's chest as she leaned against him. She glanced up at him. "Please don't leave me."
"I won't, I promise. I will be here when you wake up." Freddy kissed her before shifting a little. "How about we lay down? It will be more comfortable."
Saphira did not respond as Freddy helped her to lay down, he pulled up the covers and she moved to lay her head and shoulders on his chest. He was a bit surprised by that, but she seemed comfortable as she closed her eyes and rested her arms on his chest. He rubbed her back gently in a circular motion. He touched the cold back on her head and huffed a little.
"Here you go." Freddy looked at Mr Hippo in surprise as he held a cold pack to him. "I suspected she would be needing a new one."
"Thanks." Freddy smiled as he began to unwrap the cloth around her head.
Saphira felt it, but she did not open her eyes. She knew what it was. She was afraid of asking how her head looked, she knew she had hit the ground hard. And that was one of the reasons why she felt sick. She felt the old cold pack being pulled away and sighed as the new one was placed on her forehead and he wrapped the cloth around to keep it in place. It was very soothing. A cool shower sounded nice.
"A shower sounds nice…" Freddy paused and looked down in surprise, however, the relaxed breathing coming from her told him that she was alseep.
He kissed her forehead gently and finished wrapping the cloth around her head. Once that was settled, he simply laid there with her, rubbing her back gently to keep her comfortable. "She wasn't awake for very long."
"I wouldn't expect anything different," Mr Hippo said gently. "She's lucky to have us here to help her. But…I hate the feeling of being toyed with. I have a feeling Darren knows exactly who is behind the virus, but he can't tell us."
Freddy hummed for a moment as he processed those words. "And I think Saphira does too…but she has not said it to me."
"I wouldn't be surprised. After all, she was in that warehouse long enough to know who is behind the virus. But don't expect her to tell us. Especially not after this." He looked at Saphira thoughtfully, he wanted to do something to give her more comfort, but Freddy was all she needed. "I wonder if we should get her some food for when she wakes up next."
"She could throw up when she wakes again…" Freddy was not thrilled by that at all. He now hated vomit a lot more now that he could smell it. "But…at least we can give her water. That is all that matters honestly."
"He is right, Mr Hippo," Foxette said, placing a hand on Mr Hippo's shoulder. "We are just lucky her fever has not gotten too high, or we would be sticking her in an ice bath. Human bodies are so strange…oh well."
The animatronics nod in agreement. But they could only do what they could for Saphira as she slept. Freddy did shift Saphira off his chest after an hour, resting her on her pillow. He did not move off the bed however, he did not want to break his promise to her. Still, Freddy worried about what was coming. With Vanessa coming in a couple days after all this…he began to consider being on guard with her. This is something the virus said would happen, another night guard. And now with what has happened to Saphira, Freddy suspected maybe she was here to be the eyes for the virus. She might not cause any trouble, but Freddy definitely will standby Saphira about this.
"Hmm…" Mr Hippo and Foxette look at Freddy when he made the noise. "We should be careful when this Vanessa shows up."
Mr Hippo blinked in surprise while Foxette frowned in confusion. "You were prepared to give the lady a chance."
"Saphira said that the virus would send another night guard," Freddy responded slowly and thoughtfully. "This happened before her arrival. I can't help but worry something will happen when she is around. I am on Saphira's side on this one."
"Hold up, we're getting a second night guard?" Foxette asked in shock, looking at Mr Hippo with a frown.
"Yes we are. Her name is Vanessa. Mr Miller has approved for her to work as the second night guard." Mr Hippo saw Foxette widening her eyes in shock. "And Saphira said that when she was in the warehouse, the virus told her someone would replace her as the night guard. We don't know if that is Vanessa or not…"
"Yet you're going to trust someone who hasn't been here for two seconds over someone who has been for over two months?" Foxette placed her hands on her hips and huffed. "This definitely sounds fishy. I'll be careful with this Vanessa too. For some reason, that name sounds familiar to me. And I don't know why."
Mr Hippo knew that they should be careful with Vanessa. Saphira has already shown her utter distrust for the woman, and they haven't met her yet. He understood her fear, and he would stand by her side regarding her fear for Vanessa. But until they meet her, he would leave his judgement until than. He did not want to argue with Freddy and Foxette though, they did not need to accidentally wake Saphira. Although she was sleeping deeply enough that she couldn't even hear them.
