Tobias mumbled something in his sleep and I sighed, opening my eyes to peer up at my new friend. Raising my head I rubbed at my eyes watching with a sleepy smile when he leaned his head back and I blinked when he groaned. "Tobias?" I whispered and he cracked open one eye to find me staring at him.
"Som'thin...wrong?" He mumbled, still very much half asleep and I shook my head watching as he stretched his arms above his head.
"Not really but you were talking in your sleep. I couldn't make out the words though."I replied and he rubbed at his eyes straightening when I moved over. "Nightmares?"
"Talking? Yeah, apparently I do that sometimes when I'm really tired. Sorry if I woke you." Tobias apologizes but I just shake my head, kissing his cheek before he can react though his eyes widen slightly. "Um...okay."
"Just wanted to thank you for taking care of me. I know I'm not the best patient to deal with," at that I hear a snort and a small smile creeping into Tobias' face, "but I want to be better. If you need my help just let me know okay?" I finished and Tobias just smiled, leaning closer and I felt my lips curl into a smile when he gave me a quick kiss on the lips.
"Okay...sure. Maybe I should get some more rest...you too." He pointed out and I nodded at him, lying back and as Tobias curled up beside me I didn't bother hiding a smile. We must have slept through most of the day because as I finally cracked opne my eyes I found that the room had grown dark and I frowned, my eyes quickly shifting to the barricade. Feeling me shift around Tobias's eyes shot open in time to catch me sitting my shoulders trembling slightly.
"Rachel, what's wrong?" He asked, touching my shoulder and I jerked my eyes wide until I saw him sitting there staring at me. "Hey just relax okay? The barricade's pretty strong so no zombies are gonna get us." He whispered, rubbing my shoulder which helped, and as I rested my head on his shoulder he gave me a tiny smile.
"I just woke up and it got so dark..." I trailed off when he fixed me with a bigger smile. "Alright so I don't like the dark but can you blame me? There are zombies out there." I grumbled and Tobias chuckled, kissing my forehead when I shifted close enough to settle against his chest unaware that I was sweating until he wrapped an arm around my shoulders.
"Rach, you feeling okay? You look a little pale." He asked, placing his open palm over my forehead for several seconds. "You're feverish. When did you start feeling sick?"
"Dunno. An hour or so ago." I answered, closing my eyes only to blink awake when Tobias cleaned my bicep with a wet cloth. "Hey, no needles okay? I'm not that sick." I protested, trying to move away once I saw something in his hand but Tobias tightened his grip on my arm and I groaned.
"Rachel, it'll only hurt for a second. Besides what good will it do to prevent you from going zombie only to have you die from an infection?" Tobias pointed out, rolling his eyes when I narrowed mine at him. "Please do this for me?" He asked in a low voice and after a short hesitation, I slowly nodded, hissing when he pierced my arm with the needle.
"That fuckin' hurt, Tobias." I snapped at him, growling once he removed the needle. "That was not funny," I complained as he gently wrapped a bandage around my arm hiding the welt before he rubbed my arm.
"Rach, I know you hate needles but I'm trying to stop you from getting sick...well sicker than you already are." Tobias sighed and I just snorted at him, resting my head under his chin a few minutes later. "You're mad now but you'll feel better once you rest and have something to eat." He told me, blinking when I nuzzled his throat only to freeze with two wide eyes as Tobias grinned at me.
"Don't laugh at me, Tobias. I feel really woozy and you're not helping." I muttered, earning myself a chuckle and a brush of my (friend? Boyfriend's?) lips on my still warm forehead.
"You know I'm just teasing you, Rach. Anyway, that shot'll clear up any infection and help you sleep." He replied, already relieved when I curled up my head resting on his lap. As his fingers traced my forehead I sighed, unable to keep my eyes open. "There you go. Just sleep okay? You should feel much better by morning I promise." He added, noting that I'd already fallen asleep by the time he'd finished talking.
