Chapter 4: Love Has Arrived
Selina and Bruce had been seeing each other secretly for several months after their brief encounters had turned into something more; something they could not turn their backs on even though they both had doubts. When they saw each other again after that night, their feelings had blossomed into an inferno. Their love affair had not cooled down; in fact, they were seriously considering telling Alfred about them.
Now, though, they had other things to consider. His real estate agent had found them several apartment buildings, but the thing is they were in the same neighborhood near to his home. He had to tell her even though the buildings were close to him, it will not be affordable too long, which could cause problems, but he had to tell her the truth about the mix-up.

The next morning, on their drive back to her hotel, he had to ask her. "What about your job; you haven't been there that long?"
"I have thought about it and I can commute; it's only ten miles," she replied.
"Are you sure? You should find something here in Gotham. You would be out late at night."
"It won't be that late, plus the restaurant closes at 10pm; it's fine."
"I guess it will work, but I will worry about you."
"If you're going to worry, I can call you when I get home. How's that?"
"You should try the commute for a few days and we can revisit my offer to take you to work and pick you up. I truly would not mind at all, plus we could see each other every day."
She thought about it. "Now that you mention it, what is your schedule for the Batman? I heard you are back doing your mid-night runs."
"Yes, I saw the news articles about that, but yes I am but not until dawn like before."
"Oh, does that mean you have cut back?" She asked but that idea seemed odd.
Instead of answering her, he paid attention to the road. "We're here; we can talk about it in your room."
"Okay, we can stay there for now; but check-out is at 10am."
"It won't take long."

In her hotel room, she packed her bag, which wasn't that much. Now sitting on the bed, he explained a few things, plus he had to tell her about the mix-up with the apartment search. If she knew that he would pay part of her monthly rent, she would drop him like a stone. He inwardly sighed but there must be a way to fix this. He had to ask her first about the stealing.
"Selina, when you move back to Gotham, will you be tempted to steal again?"
"Yes, I admit it will be a temptation but the Batman will keep me in line." She replied with a slight smile.
He frowned; no way could I keep her in line, he thought. "Selina, I'm worried about you. I can tide you over if you need anything."
She did not want to argue. "Is that your subtle way of offering me money? Bruce, now we talked about this. I can take care of myself in more ways than you think."
He frowned again. "What does that mean?" She didn't answer him. "Are you sure because you know I want you safe and not out late at night putting yourself in danger."
She smiled and decided to calm him. "I know you do and yes I understand, but you need to find a place that I can afford and with more than one room would be nice."
"Don't worry, I'll find a place for you."
"Thanks, Bruce."
They both smiled determined to make it work.

Bludhaven, an hour later:
After checking out of her hotel, Selina watched her boyfriend walk around her place taking notes of what needs to be packed and how many trucks they may need.
"Bruce, now I told you, the furniture is not mine, only my belongings, kitchen ware, and my tech; that's all."
He tapped his chin. "Yes, I know, but I don't want to leave anything behind, just to be sure because once you return the keys, there is no turning back."
She was having second thoughts. "Well, now that you put it that way, I may have to think about this."
He did not like the sound of that and came closer and sat down beside her. "Have you changed your mind about moving back to Gotham?"
He looked worried. "No, I have not changed my mind."
He relaxed and took her hand. "Selina this is for us, like I told you before."
"Yes, I remember, and you were right; this is for us." She smiled and squeezed his hand.
He leaned over and kissed her sweetly. "You have made me a happy man. Thank you, Selina, for doing this for us."
"I was thinking of what happened in Gotham. We deserve this, I mean, after what we went through. We both almost died, but we made it through."
"Indeed, we did. Okay, are you sure about the apartment we found? It is a nice neighborhood and the rent isn't too high, at least for now."
"Yes, it looks nice on the Internet, not too big; it's perfect, but you haven't told me where its located."
Not wanting to upset her, he changed the subject. "Are you hungry? It's lunch time."
"Sure, where should we go?"
"How about the restaurant you work at? It did look nice from the outside. Is there a reason you didn't want to eat there?"
"To be honest, I did not want any gossip about you and me plus the food is not that good."
"Oh really, but you work there. You must hate your job, I mean, if the food is awful."
"Not all the food is awful only several items from the menu."
"That's over now. We'll find you a wonderful place to work and the food will be amazing."
She had not changed her mind. "Bruce, we decided I would try the commute first before I decide about another job; remember?"
"Yes, I remember; it's just I will worry about you out after dark."
"I'll be fine and I will call you when I get home; Okay?"
He did not want to argue. "We can talk over lunch; I'm starving. Let us go." He stood up and grabbed his jacket, still worried about her out late and all he could see in his mind was her in costume stealing and getting into trouble.
She could see he was still worried about her and put her arms around him. "I'm sorry, Bruce. We can talk about other things like your work with the orphans. How's that going?"
He pulled away excited about the orphans at the home. "It's going great. We can find a place to eat and I'll tell you all about it."

They left her place and now in his car, they found a place to eat. It's lunch time and they found a place that sold sandwiches, salads, and desserts. After ordering, they took their food and sat down in a booth and began their meal.
"This is nice. Have you eaten here before?" He asked and took a bite of his sandwich.
"Only a few times," she replied and began eating her salad. "Now tell me about the orphans."
He swallowed his food. "The building needed a lot of work, but it was completed in a month. We hired staff, meaning a cook, housekeeper, counselor, and a nurse to make sure the boys are healthy and keeping busy. All boys, no girls."
"Oh, that is a clever idea. How many are there?"
"We have five right now but room for ten, ages from 10 to15."
"Was that your age when…" She stopped. "I'm sorry."
"No, it's all right. Yes, I was ten."
"How does this work? Isn't it difficult to find parents for boys that age?" She asked feeling sad about it.
"Yes, it is, but the staff are trained to keep them busy and to help them adjust to all of it, meaning no one who cares about them more than the staff."
"I can imagine how difficult it is to keep them entertained. I remember in a foster home; it was hard for me to talk to the other children to not feel so alone."
"Yes, that is the key. All of them are in the same circumstance, feeling abandoned like no one cares about them, but it's not true. We all care."
"I'll say it again; I'm proud of you Bruce."
"Thanks, Selina." They both smiled.

A little while later, they left the restaurant, now in his car, but Bruce didn't say anything. "Hey, where are we going?" She asked.
"Only taking a drive," he replied sounding evasive.
"I'm hungry," she said, but not for food, she thought.
"I suppose you're still hungry. You had a salad, which is not real food," he said and glanced at her face. Inwardly smiling, he knew that look.
"I'm watching my figure. Don't you have some place to be?"
"Not for a while; there's a real estate agent planned with a few buildings I need to see, but that's not until; plus, this place makes a mean lasagna for dinner."
She hesitated but only for a moment. "You got me," Selina said and smiled and wished that were the case for a while, no, forever sounded good to her too.
~o~o~
Still in his car, Selina felt the need to talk about their first time to clear the air between them. Watching the scenery fly by her window, she took several sips of water to gather her courage.
"Bruce, after what happened that first night, we were together, and."
He interrupted her. "Please let us not go there; we need to move ahead; it hurt to leave you. Then you turned me down after I asked you to move back, I thought I wouldn't see you again not for a long time."
"Was that the reason you only called me once because I turned you down?" She sighed when he didn't reply. "I know you were hurt, but we care about each other. That will never change, not for me." She watched him trying to understand why he ignored her for weeks.
"All of that is in the past. Talking about it won't change what happened; so, let's not continue this conversation."
"Pull over." Frustrated, Selina waited for the car to stop, exited the car and made her way to a private terrace looking out onto a beautiful river and lovely countryside. She breathed in the clean air and tried to cool down, but she was getting upset by his constant rejection of their need to move past the hurt and pain. They never talked about it, even though the memories were burned into her soul.
He followed her and came up behind her and took her by the shoulders. "Don't Selina, please don't." He paused trying to understand. "What is this truly about besides me not calling you, but I told you I was busy." He thought about it. "Is this about the date the other night with Ms. Real. I told you; it was business."
"You told me, but when I saw you with her, I got this horrible feeling that I'm not good enough for you." She paused and thought of the good times. "I remember when you walked into the station, we stared at each other, and our connection was still there. Please, I missed you but then the doubts about us and if we had a chance to make it work." She paused again and turned to face him. "We said those words last night and I meant it. You meant it too; didn't you?"
He touched her cheek. "Of course, I meant it. Selina, as I told you before, you can call me anytime. You said you felt you were not good enough for me, but you are perfect for me. We belong together and this, you and me, we are not going to change. Okay?" He smiled.
She went back into his arms. "Yes, I believe you."
He stroked her back, raised her chin and kissed her then with more passion, and she could not help responding to him with all the feelings that had been bottled up inside of her for months since the day they met.
He stopped after a moment. He had to tell her about the apartment. "Selina, I ..."
She touched his lips to stop him from speaking. "You were mine first you know?"
Sighing, he got it. "This is about the Batman. Before you left Gotham, you said that I was taken because of him, but now everything is different and our lives will have to change."
"Yes, I did say that and you now understand why this is hard for me." Her eyes watered.
He wiped away a stray tear and brought her closer, their foreheads touched as they both tried to breathe each remembering their nights on the rooftop and at her place, all of it was after they met again at the station, and the memories were overwhelming them.
His eyes roamed over her face then his expression became serious as he lowered his mouth to hers again, this time kissing her with an intensity that stirred her blood to a raging fire. He pulled back after a moment then touched her cheek softly. "Don't move, I'll be right back."
He kissed her hand, and after about five minutes, he returned with a key, took her hand again and smiled at her.

After they entered their room, thoughts of being closer again stirred their hearts and minds. "The room is lovely," Selina said as she walked around the charming room, went to the window and pulled the curtain aside. She admitted how strange this was from the first time, but it was no less exciting, even more so, if that were possible.
Bruce wasn't looking at the room; all he could see was a beautiful and very desirable woman who wanted and needed him with a passion he had never experienced before. He needed her, as he came up behind her, leaned down and kissed her throat and her ear as they both sighed their feelings took over everything, every thought.
Soon they were naked lying atop the huge bed, their kisses and caresses became frantic as moans and sighs were the only noises in the quiet room. Bruce's mouth closed over hers then as her lips parted under the pressure of his tongue as it slipped inside her mouth, demanding a response. She melted against him reveling in his body close to hers again, the feeling indescribable.
He kissed her thoroughly, as she came into his arms whimpering her need. His lips moved down her neck where he sucked lightly at her skin, and she tilted her head to the side to give him more access. His lips wondered down her throat to her beautiful breasts then bent his head to take one pebbled nipple in his mouth. He suckled her until her chest lifted off the bed, moaning loudly when her sighs and cries to continue spurred him on as he moved to the other breast to give it equal attention.
Selina stroked his head but she knew his need, felt his hunger in the intensity of his kisses; his excited moans and rapid breathing fueled her own desire and she clung to him, trying to pull him closer. His fingers moved over her center, as she gasped into his mouth and arched her back. "Please!"
That word, coupled with her tugging motion on his erection, finally galvanized him into action. He positioned himself at the entrance of her body and thrust home in one smooth glide. And then he was kissing her again, his mouth slanting across hers in a deep, consuming kiss as he began to slowly move in and out of her body, setting a pace that had her writhing in his arms. She was driving him crazy; making love to Selina felt like heaven as his body moved at just the right angle to pleasure her and him, as hearts pounding, lungs straining, they began that climb until they reached the highest peak, soaring together as lovers have done for ions.
Finally spent, he lowered his weight to rest gently on top of her, pressing tender kisses to her lips, her cheeks and her eyelids. As their breathing returned to normal, they lay together, her head on his chest and their legs entwined.
Minutes passed and Selina was the first to speak. "That was wonderful," she said and sighed.
He pulled her closer. "It was, wasn't it?" He paused. "I missed you, Selina."
"I missed you too so much; it was hard, so hard but I got through it; I don't know how I did it, but I did."
He smiled and kissed her temple. "I'm so proud of you," he said meaning it then he rolled her to her back and kissed her again. "I don't want this night to end."
"Neither do I, but ... we have to leave," she regretfully said as she pulled him closer not wanting to let go.
"I know," he said but then he kissed her again.
Bruce let her up and watched from the bed as she went into the bathroom to change. He followed her and the next thing she knew, they were in the shower together unable to let go, not now, not ever.
Now fully dressed and ready to leave, but he had to tell her. "Selina, before we leave, I need to tell you something. It's important."
Now she was worried. "What is it?"
He took her hand. "You know I love you and I want you to be safe, especially in Gotham. Everything has changed. You were right about the city; it's going to take a long time before the city will be safe. Then I found out about the apartment we agreed was perfect for you, but it's far too expensive and you cannot afford it. Not only that, but it's in my neighborhood." She appeared stunned. "Please believe me, the agent must have gotten my instructions wrong. I'm sorry, but we will find something and soon."
"I cannot believe this. I already gave notice at my place. I had a feeling this would not work out for us."
"Please do not give up. We will find a place for you. I promise."
Still worried, but she believed him. "I do trust you Bruce and I believe you." She sighed. "I could withdraw the notice. It's only been two days."
"No, keep the notice for now. I'll get right on it. We have time to make sure we find the right place for you. See you tomorrow?" He asked worried their plans would fall apart if he did not find her a place to stay. He did not want to go back to the way things were living in different cities and neither did she. He would do this one thing for her, no it's for them.
She smiled and winked at him. "Just try and lose me; no chance of that happening, not ever."
And with that statement, he kissed her again, then he drove back to her condominium as he watched her from her window.

Back in Gotham:
He called his agent again, not to chew him out but to find the right place he asked for. He needed his choices right away." He promised he would then he checked in on Alfred and told him his news about Selina coming back.
"Well, this is not a surprise. You did seem obsessed about her even before she left town."
"Yes, I was preoccupied with seeing her again and we did reconnect multiple times and it is serious. She wants to move back to Gotham but it's been difficult to find her a place she can afford. Apartment rentals have increased a lot in the past few years. It truly is insane."
"Yes, I do realize that, but let me see, I do have a place in mind. Fully-furnished rental homes are far more affordable and she could get a month-to-month lease. That would work for the time being."
"That does sound like an excellent idea. I'll call her and see what she says." He picked up his cellphone and made the call. He explained the situation and to his surprise she agreed. She hasn't lived in a house since she was a child and she loved that idea.
"Great, I'll be in touch." He hung up. "She liked the idea."
"Okay, our housekeeper and her daughter lives in that neighborhood and there are homes to rent, not too big, but it could work for her," Alfred said.
~o~o~
Two weeks later and after Selina checked it out, she was ready to move into her two-bedroom bungalow for rent and it was nice and cozy and she loved it.
Bruce helped with the move. Now they were in the living room, enjoying pizza after a long day making sure everything was put away and they could relax and enjoy her home.
"Thank you, Bruce. You have never let me down, but I still cannot believe you found this place."
"It wasn't me; it was Alfred who suggested we try renting a home and it worked out great."
"Remind me to thank him."
"You can thank him in a minute. I asked him to come over. It's way past time for you two to meet." And with that comment, the doorbell rang.
"I'll get it," Selina said. "My first visitor." She opened the door and he held out his hand. She ignored it and gave him a hug. "Thank you, Alfred, for doing this for me… and for Bruce too. Come in."
"Thank you, Selina for saying that. I had to help you find a place, I mean, you both needed this and I'm glad it all worked out." He looked around. "It is a lovely place."
"Thank you. Are you hungry; we have plenty?"
"I am hungry and I do love pizza," Alfred replied.
"Let's eat. What would you like to drink? We have soda, water, iced tea," she asked.
"Tea is fine, thank you."
"Are you British? I love your accent."
"Yes, Selina, he is British," Bruce answered for him.
They were almost finished eating, then Selina spoke up. "Would you like a tour, Mr. Pennyworth?" She teased him smiling.
"Good Lord, please call me Alfred."
Bruce covered his mouth to hold in a laugh. These two are amazing and I love them both. Smiling he watched them and realized his family is growing and he felt blessed to have them then a fleeting thought of one more would be perfect.
After their tour, Selina had a confession to make. Now in the living room with the television running of a soccer match, Alfred's favorite sport. She picked up the remote and turned down the volume.
"Mr. Pennyworth, I mean, Alfred, I wanted to say something." She took a deep breath to gather her thoughts. Eyes shining. "I just wanted to say thank you for doing this for us and to thank you for saving Bruce. He was at the lowest point in his life, you saved him, and he is alive and well and all because of you. I love him and the most amazing thing of all, he loves me too. It's a miracle and I feel blessed to have him and you in my life. That's all I wanted to say."
Bruce and Alfred glanced at each other, both touched by her speech. Bruce stood up and pulled her close. "Thank you for saying that. We are the lucky ones." He kissed her sweetly.
"I agree. Let us have a toast." Everyone picked up their iced tea then Alfred made a toast. "Here's to your new home. May joy and peace surround you; happiness be with you now and bless you ever-more."
Everyone took a sip. "Thanks, Alfred; that was nice." Bruce said.
"Thank you, Alfred for coming to celebrate with us in my home," Selina said.
"You're welcome. Well, I suppose you two want to make sure your home is blessed in other ways. I'll say good night."
Bruce shook his head. "Thank you, Alfred. I'll show you out."
"Good night, Alfred and thank you for coming," Selina said.
"Good night, Selina," Alfred said. "I'll see you tomorrow." He winked at Bruce and left.
Bruce shook his head again and shut the door. "He truly is something."
"I love him; he's wonderful." She said and began to clean up.
"I'll do that. Why don't you get changed and I'll join you… in the shower?" Her eyes widened. "He did say we need to 'bless' this house in other ways." He winked.
"I like the sound of that." She returned his wink and headed to the bathroom.
He cleaned up in seconds. He heard the shower running and he did too. At the bathroom but before he opened it, two cats walked over to him and rubbed against his leg asking to be picked up. He wasn't sure about this; he truly did not know what to do.
Selina peeked out the door. "Ignore them, get in here."
He entered and there she is in all her glorious beauty. He undressed quickly and joined her.
In the shower together, his arms held her close from behind. Selina's happy tears blinded her believing they would be together, not just one day but forever.
The end!

A/N: In this last chapter, I needed to clear up Selina's insecurities about returning to Gotham and her fears of not being good enough for him. It's a silly thought but it felt real to her, and she needed to let it out. I'm looking forward to the sequel and where the writers take them. I hope you enjoyed it. Thanks for reading. Reviews are love!
