Don't Touch that Sundial

Location: Anistar City

"Amazing," said Brendan through the Holo Caster. "And that's why Team Flare prevented you from getting there?"

I nodded. "Yeah. It's unthinkable. Not just for us, but for everyone else trying to get to Anistar. How have you been?"

"Great!" Brendan replied. "Today I caught one of those Flabébé. This one has a blue flower. Once it fully evolves, I'll use it in my final Contest! Your friend said that it needs a Dawn Stone to evolve after becoming Floette though."

"Good luck with that," I said. "Anyway, today is my seventh Gym battle. Shauna told me the Gym Leader uses Psychic Types."

"Interesting," replied Brendan. "Interestingly enough, my seventh Gym battle was Psychic based. However, it was a double battle between Tate and Liza. They are very strong, and are currently looking after a Deoxys!"

"Wow!" I said. "Okay, I promised Serena that I would meet at the sundial today."

"Anytime!" Brendan replied, signing off.

With Trevor and Shauna having their battle first today, I went with Serena and Tierno to get a better look at the sundial. The sun shone off the pink crystals.

"It's amazing," I said. "And it has a link to Mega Evolution?"

"I've read up on it," said Tierno. "Apparently, when the sun shines through the sundial, that's when you can find Mega Stones. At least we had ours given to us though."

I laughed. "Yeah."

Serena looked at me. "So… shall we have a battle?"

"Sounds great!" I replied. "Wanna watch Tierno?"

"Hold on," he replied. "Go Roserade!" Tierno sent out a green Pokémon with two blooming roses on each hand.

"Watch carefully," Tierno said.

Calem Vs. Serena

"Meowstic, go!" Serena shouted, as her Psychic Type was sent out.

"And I choose Sableye!" I replied.

"Disarming Voice!" Meowstic shouted, and musical notes were fired at Sableye for Super Effective, but somewhat light, damage.

"Shadow Claw attack!" Sableye thrusted its claw into the ground. The shadow stretched forward and slashed at Meowstic for lots of damage.

"And now Shadow Ball!" Meowstic fired a black ball at Sableye. It got knocked down but got up again.

"Shadow Claw once more!" Sableye used one more Ghost attack on Meowstic, finishing it.

"Jolteon, you're next!" shouted Serena, sending in her Electric Type.

"Thanks," I told Sableye. "I'm using Chesnaught!" A Grass Type could take Electric Type moves very well.

"Use Pin Missile!" Jolteon fired multiple needles at Chesnaught.

"Bulk Up!" I shouted as Chesnaught pumped itself up.

"Now use Discharge!" Shockingly (bad pun I know), it didn't do much.

You know what did do a fair bit though? Body Slam! Chesnaught jumped up and landed on Jolteon for lots of damage. "Way to go!" I told Chesnaught.

"Another Pin Missile!" More pins were fired at Chesnaught, who took it.

"Finish with Seed Bomb!" Chesnaught fired exploding seeds at Jolteon, who went down.

"Next up, Delphox!" Out came Serena's partner. "Flamethrower!" From its fiery stick, Delphox shot a pillar of fire at Chesnaught. Chesnaught fainted quickly.

"Thanks," I told it. "Okay Blastoise, you're next!" Out came a Water Type to deal with the Fire Type.

"Use Psychock!" Delphox fired glowing balls at Blastoise. It didn't do much because, whilst being a Special move, Psyshock attacks with Psychical power. This means if a user has high Special Attack and the opposition has high Special Defense and low Defense, it will hopefully do a lot (provided it's not a Dark Type of course).

"Use Surf!" Blastoise made a large wave that crashed into Delphox for a lot of damage.

"Light Screen!" Delphox created a forcefield around itself.

"Surf again!" Even with the Light Screen though, Delphox was too weak to take another strong Water move.

"Thanks. Okay Lapras, you're up!" Out came a Water Type of her own.

"Come back Blastoise," I said. "Tyrantrum, you're up!" I know Tyrantrum is weak to Ice Type moves, but I just wanted to use it. "Use Rock Tomb!" Tyrantrum made a bunch of rocks cave into Lapras. Whilst Super Effective, it was far from knocking Lapras out.

"Use Ice Beam!" Lapras fired a cold beam at Tyrantrum. It went down in one.

"Thanks," I told it. "Sableye, go!" Sableye came back out. It sent out a weird wave at Lapras, who got confused. "Hey, that's Confuse Ray!" Lapras hurt itself in the confusion. "Use Shadow Claw!" Sableye swiped at Lapras for a Critical Hit.

"Ice Beam Lapras!" Lapras fired yet another cold beam. It hit Sableye and knocked it out immediately.

"Malamar, you're next!" Malamar was sent out.

"Why aren't you using Lucario?" Tierno asked.

"Because," I said. "I want to see Serena to try it out. But for now, Malamar, use Psycho Cut!" Instead, Malamar's tentacles went black. Then, it slashed at Lapras. "Woah Night Slash! We're learning moves left front and centre today!"

"Now Lapras, Brine!" Lapras fired some salty water at Malamar. It didn't do much.

"Finish with Psycho Cut!" Malamar sliced at Lapras once more, knocking it out.

"Okay Absol, let's do this!" Serena sent out who I was waiting for. "Ready?" She pressed her Key Stone. "With the power of Mega Evolution, AWAKEN!" Absol was surrounded by Mega Energy and became Mega Absol! It now had two wings on its back.

"Absol, X-Scissor!" Mega Absol slashed Malamar in an X formation, knocking it out.

"Thanks," I told Malamar. "Okay, now it's my turn! Lucario, go!" I sent out what would be my Mega counter. I pressed the Key Stone. "When our hearts become one. Beyond evolution, MEGA EVOLVE!" Lucario was surrounded by Mega Energy, and became Mega Lucario!

"Psycho Cut!" Mega Absol's horn started to glow, and it slashed at Mega Lucario.

"Come back with Aura Sphere!" Mega Lucario fired a blue orb at Mega Absol, almost finishing it.

"One more Psycho Cut!" Whilst it did hit, it wasn't enough to knock out Mega Lucario.

"Aura Sphere!" Mega Lucario attacked one last time, and Mega Absol was finished.

"My first Mega Evolution! Amazing!"

"You did it," I said, grabbing Serena's hands.

"Yeah," she replied, pushing her hair back a bit. "I guess I did." She then looked at Tierno. "And congrats on your Roselia evolving Tierno!"

"Which reminds me," I said. "Brendan told me today that Floette evolves with a Dawn Stone, and Roselia evolves with one. Tierno, presuming you obtained a Dawn Stone, do you have another one?"

"Yeah!" Tierno said, getting out a glowing white stone. "You think we should give it to Trevor? From what I've heard, Floette is the only other Kalos native Pokémon that evolves with it."

"Yeah!" I said.

Later that day, we met Trevor who had just won his Badge. Tierno gave him the Dawn Stone.

"Thanks!" Trevor said. "But I won't evolve it yet. I want to teach it Moonblast first."

"You want to teach it a move?" I said. "Wow, so you do like battling!"

"Yeah," he said. "A bit…"
