Chapter 48:
The Eternal AZ
Location: Lumiose City
Me and Tierno were back in Lumiose City, but we weren't browsing the shops or checking out the sights; this was a life-or-death situation.
"This is an important announcement," said the Kalos 24 news reporter, Malva, on one of the big advertising screens. "Our great leader, Léon Lysandre, will exterminate anyone who isn't part of Team Flare to create a more beautiful world. Sorry it has to come to this, but it's the only way to create the world Lysandre desires."
"Stay calm," Tierno said. "You sure about this?"
"Yeah," I replied. "I hope so at least. And we have everyone on our side to. Serena, Shauna, Trevor and Brendan. Team Flare have been a threat for too long, and their ambitions are officially going ahead. We can do it."
Tierno smiled. "You got this, Pokémon Trainer Calem Yvonne." We shook hands. It was a bit shaky, out of fear that it could potentially be the last one.
"For the future of Kalos!" I shouted, running off.
Location: Lysandre Café
The atmosphere in the café this time was much different to the last time I went there. Rather than people casually enjoying their tea, no one was there. Understandable; this plan of Lysandre Labs, or should I say Team Flare, had caused a lot of people to boycott the entire company. It didn't matter too much; Lysandre had the funds anyway.
"May I take your order?" asked a Waitress.
"Yeah," I said. "I want an order to meet Lysandre!"
"Sorry," she said. "That's not on the menu today!"
Calem Vs. Team Flare Grunt
"Scrafty, go!" shouted the Grunt.
"I choose Talonflame!" I replied. "Use Acrobatics!" Talonflame tossed and turned everywhere, before kicking Scrafty in the face. It nearly finished it.
"Come back with Crunch!" Scrafty darted forward and chomped down on Talonflame.
"Now Flame Charge!" Talonflame set itself alight and charged into Scrafty, taking it down.
"I suppose I'm the one on the menu now."
"You fool!" said a Team Flare Grunt coming in. "Why were you beaten by him?"
"In my defense," the Grunt, still in Waitress attire replied. "He has seven Badges."
"Seven Badges?" the Grunt said. "Inexcusable. You're needed at the main headquarters this instant. Make haste."
The Grunt nodded. "Yes. Okay."
I looked over at the Waiter. "I… think I'll take my bathroom break," he said, going into the men's room.
"Good," said the Grunt who had just came in. "Now, let's let you in."
"What?" I asked. Why was this Grunt helping me? Was it a trick?
I saw the Grunt put in a password in a bookshelf. Then, it slid to the right revealing a corridor.
"Thanks?" I asked. "Wait, why are you doing this? I mean I'm grateful, but you're a bad guy."
"Am I?" the Grunt asked, grinning. He then tore off his disguise to reveal a black haired man in a brown coat. "I am not Team Flare! I am Looker of the International Police! Or at least that's my codename! I was contacted by Professor Sycamore for a bit of help. This is serious business."
Just then, we heard the toilet flush. "I hope he didn't hear all that. Cover for me," I said.
"Will do," Looker replied, as I headed down the corridor, the bookshelf sliding closed behind me.
Location: Lysandre Labs
I walked into a large-orange room with many directional tiles. There were also warp panels, just like the ones seen in Gyms. Heat was going through the pipes, and Team Flare Grunts were everywhere. But waiting for me at the entrance, was Lysandre.
"Lysandre!" I shouted. "Why are you doing this? Don't you realise than genocide is the wrong way to make the world better?"
"I want to make the world more than better," he said. "I want to bring it back to its beautiful state! And the only way to do that, is to wipe away its imperfections; horrible people like you and your friends."
"No!" I said. "I don't want anyone to die but look at yourself for once. Who's the ones who stole Fossils from Glittering Cave? Who syphoned power from the Kalos Power Plant? Who is trying to destroy the Kalos region with a horrifying weapon that has been sealed away from a good reason?"
"ENOUGH!" Lysandre shouted. "You have been no more than an annoyance to our plans anyway. I do not plan for some run of the mill Rhyhorn Racer son to get in my way!"
Calem Vs. Team Flare Lysandre
"Mienfoo, go!" Lysandre shouted, sending out a Fighting Type.
"I choose Talonflame!" I replied. "Use Acrobatics!" Talonflame tossed and turned, finally kicking Mienfoo in the face and knocking it out in one shot.
"But… how? Nevermind. Pyroar, go!" Out came a Pyroar. This one was male as it had a glorious mane on it.
"Use Acrobatics again!" Talonflame jumped everywhere and attacked Pyroar. It stayed up.
"Use Wild Charge!" Pyroar created sparks around itself and charged into Talonflame for a Super Effective shot. Additionally, it was a Critical Hit. Talonflame went down, but Pyroar also took recoil.
"We won't lose! Sableye, go!" I shouted.
"Use Flamethrower Pyroar!" Pyroar fired a pillar of flames at Sableye.
"Now use Power Gem!" Sableye fired a glowing diamond at Pyroar, knocking it out.
"You stubborn thorn! Murkrow, stop him!" Out came a black-feathery Pokémon with a long-yellow beak.

"Murkrow, Foul Play!" Murkrow picked up Sableye and threw it on the ground.
"Power Gem!" Sableye fired a diamond at Murkrow for Super Effective damage.
"Now use Aerial Ace!" Murkrow flew down on Sableye, hitting it.
"Use Power Gem!" However, this Power Gem missed.
"Finished with another Foul Play!" Murkrow threw Sableye down once again, sealing the deal with Sableye.
"Thanks," I told Sableye. "Okay Lucario, go!" Out came my Fighting Type. "Use Aura Sphere!" Lucario fired a blue sphere at Murkrow, and it was done for.
"No! This won't happen! Gyarados, go!" Lysandre's ace. A long-blue Pokémon feared by many out at sea. It was Gyarados.

"Heads up Lucario!" I told it. "Me First!" Lucario read Gyarados' mind and used Earthquake. But with Gyarados being a Flying Type, Earthquake did nothing.
"This is an Earthquake done properly!" Gyarados made the ground shake, and it fainted Lucario.
"No!" I yelled. "I'm not finished. Go Chesnaught!" I shouted.
"Use Crunch!" Gyarados leapt forward, ready to bite down on Chesnaught.
"Spiky Shield!" Chesnaught increased the spikes on its back, and Gyarados hit them, doing damage to it.
"Ngh. Gyarados, use Outrage!" Gyarados went angry and thrashed at Chesnaught. It managed to take it though.
"Use Body Slam!" Chesnaught brought its body down onto Gyarados. Thankfully, it also paralyzed! "Great timing! Now, give em a taste of your Seed Bomb!" Chesnaught fired some seeds at Gyarados. They exploded on impact and were a Critical Hit. Gyarados was almost finished.
"Use Outrage again!" However, Gyarados couldn't move because of paralysis.
"One last Seed Bomb!" Chesnaught used the last move that secured me the win.
"You… YOU WILL BE… our plans are officially underway. You won't last long."
"Okay Lysandre, I've beaten you. It ends here."
Lysandre just started laughing. "Ha… ha ha! HA HA HA!"
"Something funny?" I replied.
"It will take more than beating me here to stop Team Flare," Lysandre told me. He got out a Holo Caster and started talking to Xerosic. "That Trainer. Yes, the Rhyhorn Racer. He is here. I will check up on the prisoner. Get the burning ready."
"Burning?!" I asked. "Who is this prisoner and why are you executing him?"
"It's not for the prisoner and it's none of your business," Lysandre said.
Deciding that Lysandre had wasted enough time, I barged passed him and started making my way through the lab.
I stepped on a panel and found myself darted left. I stopped when I hit a wall, and saw a warp panel. So I stepped on it and was warped off.
I found myself in a small room with my next big foe; Aliana. She was blocking some warp panels. Quickly, she noticed me.
"Oh, great. It's you. The kid from the Power Plant. Listen, why can't you just stay out of this? You're too cheap to join Team Flare after all!"

"Mightyena, deal with him!" Out came Aliana's Dark Type.
"You're up Lucario!" I shouted. "Okay, let's raise your stats. Calm Mind!" Lucario took a deep breath, and rose its Attack and Sp. Attack.
"Mightyena, Crunch!" Mightyena chomped down on Lucario's hand, but it wasn't very effective. However, Lucario's Defense fell.
"Aura Sphere!" Lucario fired a blue orb at Mightyena, finishing it in one.
"Urgh. Druddigon, go!" Out came a Dragon Type.
"Lucario, Me First!" Lucario predicted Druddigon's move. It was Revenge. Lucario punched Druddigon in the face, but it also got hurt by Rough Skin.
"Use Revenge!" Druddigon punched Lucario for massive damage, knocking it out.
"No!" I shouted. "Clever strategy, I'll say that. Tyrantrum, go!" I yelled. Upon coming out, Tyrantrum sent a large shockwave out that made the whole room shake. "Tyrantrum, that's Earthquake! Wow!" Druddigon was down.
"You… little brat!"
"Out of the way," I said.
Aliana just walked past sassily. "Just to let you know, Calem Yvonne, YOU will be one of the first to go. As well as your nitwit friends."
I took a warp panel to just outside an office. So much was on my shoulders; I felt like something had used Heavy Slam on me. Nevertheless, I walked into the office.
Upon entering the office, I saw that multiple Team Flare Grunts had been beaten. By who? Well, one had short blonde hair and one had long black hair- they were Sina and Dexio in masks and white uniform.
"Fear not Kalos, for hope has arrived, because we are here!" said Dexio.
"In the name of the Kalos region, we shall punish you!" Sina said. "We are… the Defenders of Kalos!"
"Really?" I said. "You look more like-"
Dexio covered my mouth and whispered to me. "Hey, cut it out. If they find out who we are, we'll be targets. We've already beaten them, so give us these ones okay?"
I laughed a bit. "Okay. Be careful though."
With those Team Flare members being dealt with, I continued onwards. I battled through a few more grunts (with the help of Sina and Dexio) and made it to the next warp panel.
In this room were the terrible duo; Celosia and Bryony. But that wasn't all; they had Clemont with them! He was working on some invention in the corner.
"Clemont?" I asked. "What are you doing?"
"They're… keeping me hostage," he said, a shake in his voice. "After you left Lumiose City, they knocked me out and took me here. They said they would hurt Bonnie if I didn't do as they were told."
"Let him go!" I shouted. "Or should I say, I will!" I ran in front of him. "You will have to get through me first."
"Really?" said Celosia. A television screen appeared in front of us. It showed Prism Tower and, at the top, a Team Flare Grunt hanging Bonnie from the top of it.
"NO!" Clemont said. "Let her go!"
"We will if you don't work for us," Bryony said. "But it won't be pretty."
"You wouldn't," I said.
"Oh but we would," said Celosia. "Want to see us try?"
"Clemont," I said. "Battle with me."
"Really?" Clemont replied. "Erm, okay. Wait, no. I mean okay, let's do this!" Clemont got a Pokéball ready. "THIS IS FOR MESSING WITH MY LITTLE SISTER!"

"Manectric, go!" Celosia shouted.
"Get em Liepard!" Bryony replied.
"I choose Lucario!" I said.
"Magnezone, go!" Clemont responded, sending out a large-grey Pokémon with magnets around its body.

"Liepard, Night Slash!" Liepard slashed at Magnezone.
"Use Aura Sphere!" I shouted, as Lucario fired a blue ball at Liepard. It went down in one.
"Now Magnezone, Flash Cannon!" Magnezone fired a white beam at Manectric, but it wasn't very effective.
"Come out Bisharp!" Celosia shouted. She sent out a Pokémon that looked like Pawniard, but bigger.

"Manectric, Fire Fang again!" Manectric bit Lucario once again with its fiery jaws. This caused it to flinch.
"Bisharp, use Night Slash!" Bisharp sliced at Magnezone.
"Now Magnezone, Electro Ball!" Magnezone fired a yellow ball at Bisharp who took the hit.
"Now use Fire Fang on Magnezone!" Manectric chomped down on Magnezone with its own fiery jaws.
"An opening! Lucario, Aura Sphere!" Lucario fired an Aura Sphere at Bisharp, taking it down.
"And Magnezone, Flash Cannon!" Magnezone fired another white beam at Manectric, but it wasn't very effective.
"Manectric, use Discharge!" Manectric sent electricity everywhere, hitting Lucario and Magnezone. Lucario was paralyzed to.
"Flash Cannon!" Another hit and Manectric was almost down.
"Use Aura Sphere Lucario!" Lucario fired another Aura Sphere at Manectric, dealing the final blow.
"You stuck up little! We trusted you you stupid Gym Leader! Drapion, go!" Out came a large-purple Pokémon with sharp claws and a menacing tail.

"Drapion, Brick Break!" Drapion brought its gargantuan claws down onto Magnezone. It was a Critical Hit. Magnezone was down. Additionally, Lucario couldn't move.
"We've still got this," said Clemont. "Go Heliolisk!" Out came Clemont's ace. "Use Bulldoze!" Heleolisk sent a shockwave through the ground towards Drapion. It was a hit.
"Use Cross Poison!" In an X formation, Drapion sliced at Heliolisk.
"Aura Sphere Lucario!" Lucario fired one last Aura Sphere at Drapion, finishing it off.
"I knew getting a Gym Leader was a risk."
"That stupid Rhyhorn kid."
"Don't worry Clemont," I said. "You have nothing to worry about now. Everyone will understand."
"Oh, but you do have something to worry about," said Celosia. She went into her Holo Caster and contacted a Grunt. "Drop her."
"NO!" Clemont shouted as, on the TV screen, the Grunt dropped Bonnie. "NOOOOOO!" Clemont shouted.
Just then, something appeared and grabbed her. It floated down. "WHAT?!" Bryony shouted. "What is it? Zoom in!"
The TV zoomed in to a Hawlucha. "Could that be?" I asked. On the side of the screen, I saw Korrina, congratulating Hawlucha and comforting the traumatised Bonnie. "Alright!" I shouted.
"And that's not all! Look!" Clemont shouted. He saw Valerie and Sylveon checking to see if Bonnie is okay as well, whilst Viola helped escort the citizens through one of Hoopa's portals.
"The Gym Leaders?!" Bryony shouted.
"They're here to help!" I said, just as Olympia teleported in.
"I sensed you were here.
I heard all that has gone down.
Don't sweat; Bonnie's safe."
"I gotta get to the Gym," Clemont said. "Lumiose City will need power to survive over here. Sorry about this Olympia."
Olympia nodded, then turned to me.
"Calem, we thank you.
Kalos owes you a great debt.
But, you're not finished."
With that, she teleported away with Clemont.
"Okay," I said. "Who is this Prisoner you have and what are you planning on burning?"
Celosia laughed. "None of your business."
"What was that?" I asked, holding up the Key Stone. "Lest you answer to Mega Blastoise."
"OKAY OKAY!" shouted Bryony. "So, the energy we used from the Power Plant? We're using that to power the Ultimate Weapon. Additionally, those rocks on Route 10? Those are actually gravestones of people who thought in the ancient Kalos War?"
Whilst it didn't answer either of my questions, I was intrigued. "Kalos War?" I asked.
"The prisoner will know more," Bryony continued. "But you need an Elevator Key to-"
Celosia covered Bryony's mouth. "You have said too much."
I walked by them and took the warp panel out of the room.
I walked about the Lab and found a doorway. "My best guess would be that the Key that activates the Elevator is with Mabel."
Running through the doorway, I was in the room with Mabel herself. I was feeling lucky today, clearly.
"Hey!" I shouted. "The Elevator Key. Do you have it?"
"What? This one?" she asked, holding up a card key. She twiddled it softly in her fingers.
"That's it!" I shouted. "Give it here!"
"NO!" Mabel shouted back.

"Houndoom, go!" Mabel shouted.
"I choose Tyrantrum!" I replied.
"Now Houndoom, Dark Pulse!" Houndoom fired a black wave of energy at Tyrantrum. It took a few steps back but was fine.
"Earthquake!" Tyrantrum made the ground shake violently. Houndoom was out in one shot.
"You are so annoying! Go Weavile!" Out came a black Pokémon with sharp claws and a red-feathery head.

"Thanks Tyrantrum," I said. "Go Lucario!" Lucario was the best you could get when it came to Type advantages.
"Weavile, Low Sweep!" Weavile swiped at Lucario's legs, making it fall over. Its Speed fell, but it didn't matter.
"Aura Sphere!" Lucario fired an Aura Sphere at Weavile, finishing it off in one.
"NOOO!" Mabel shouted. In fear, she accidentally threw the Elevator Key out her hand. Lucario jumped up and grabbed it.
"Okay," I said. "We have a prisoner to save!"
The elevator was in the middle of the lab. There was a card scanner on the side, so I swiped it. The elevator doors opened, I stepped in and descended.
Below was a prison, as expected. Most were empty. However, there was a particularly tall one with a man inside, being trapped by electronic beams. And not just any man, it was the man from the vision! The man who took Trevor back to the Pokémon Center after he was bit by the Gible!
"It's you!" I said.
The man looked down at me. Considering he was three times my height, that's not too surprising. "Huh? Oh, I remember you. From the Lumiose Badlands. I never introduced myself. It's AZ. What are you doing here?"
"First of all, weird name. Secondly, I'm topping Team Flare." I looked for something to disable the beams. From what I've heard, the beams are very sharp. Even scraping them can be painful. "Were you doing the same thing?"
"It's more than that." From the other side of the room, we heard Lysandre. There was no point hiding, he already knew my presence.
"Let him go!" I said. "What did he do to deserve to do this?"
"Because," Lysandre said. "This is the king of Kalos I talked about back when you only had four Badges."
That was impossible. He ruled 3000 years ago. "How? No one can live that long?"
"Yes, they can," AZ said. "And I will explain."
"Here we go again," Lysandre said rolling his eyes.
3000 years ago, there was a great war of the Kalos region. Pokémon were asked to fight one another; it was an awful sight.
My dear Pokémon was a special Floette. We were inseparable. But we both knew the day would come where Floette had to fight in the war, so we signed it up to not go through the pain of the request.
One year later, I received a box. In the box, was a single petal. I… couldn't believe it. Floette… I had lost it.
Stricken with grief, I created the Ultimate Weapon. Using power from the Legendary Pokémon of life, Xerneas, I used the energy to bring Floette back to life. In the process, I was also granted eternal life.
However, I could not forgive the horrible filth that had killed Floette. So, with the power of the Pokémon of destruction, Yveltal, I transformed the Ultimate Weapon into the Ultimate Weapon of destruction, which wiped out the Pokémon fighting in the war, thus ending it.
After witnessing what went on, Floette fled. Not knowing what to do, I scoured the world. Eventually, I decided to start looking for Floette again. And that is my quest.
I wiped a tear from my eye.
"Thank you," said Lysandre. "And thank you for telling me the whereabouts of Xerneas. The tree has been brought here and is ready to be incinerated."
"Wait…" I said. "THAT tree… it was Xerneas?"
AZ nodded. "Once Xerneas reaches the end of its life, it takes the form of a dead tree. Before that though, it allows life to flourish all around it, hence why Santalune Forest is so beautiful. For now though, you must stop the Ultimate Weapon."
Suddenly, Lysandre got a call on the Holo Caster. It was from a Team Flare Admin. "Preparations are almost set," he said. "Please come over immediately."
"Understood," Lysandre replied, as the call was cut. "Stop us if you dare, but we have already won." He then turned to AZ. "As for you…" He opened a secret compartment on the wall and pushed a button, freeing him. "We do not need you anymore. You've told us everything. To think, you share the same blood as me. Thank you."
"Woah woah woah," I said, as Lysandre took the elevator back up. "You're Lysandre's ancestor?"
"We have more important matters at hand," AZ said. "I believe that Xerosic is the main person behind this. Let's find him."
"No," I said. "I will find him. You have a Floette to look for."
AZ looked down at the floor. "You're right. I will. I can make my own way out, thank you."
I went up a floor and made my way over to the north east room. Inside were many technological… stuff. Buttons, levers, all that stuff. Standing by a large television screen was Xerosic, in between two large square buttons. One was blue and one was orange.
"So," Xerosic said. He turned his head round, his orange goggles piercing my soul. "We finally meet Calem Yvonne."
"You're the one behind the revival of the Ultimate Weapon!" I said. "Don't you understand what this means? Lysandre is a madman! Why listen to him? Despite what he says, you will be caught up in the mass genocide to! The destruction on Kalos will be catastrophic! If we join forces, we can stop this!"
Xerosic slowly walked up to me. "No. Lysandre was right. Filth like you are polluting the world. And I will not allow it!"
"Bring it on!" I shouted.

"Okay Talonflame, I choose you!" I shouted.
"Crobat, take him down!" Xerosic sent out a pink Pokémon that was flying with four wings.

It flies so silently through the dark on its four wings that it may not be noticed even when nearby.
Zubat -Lv 22- Golbat -Happiness- Crobat
"Crobat, Acrobatics!" Crobat started tossing and turning over towards Talonflame.
"Counter it with your Acrobatics!" I told Talonflame. The two started kicking at each other in the air. Both did a lot of damage.
"Poison Fang!" When in close range, Crobat bit down on Talonflame's wing; it was badly poisoned.
"Flame Charge!" Talonflame charged into Crobat covered in fire. Crobat was down, but the bad poison also fainted Talonflame. "No!" I shouted.
"You will not interfere with my plans! Malamar, go!" Xerosic sent out his own Malamar. I didn't have my own Malamar with me, but it didn't matter too much.
"Sableye, go!" I shouted. I got my Key Stone ready. "When our hearts become one, beyond evolution… MEGA EVOLVE!" Sableye because Mega Sableye!
"Malamar, use Aerial Ace!" Malamar shot down at Mega Sableye, but it didn't do that much damage.
"Use Shadow Claw!" Mega Sableye slashed at Malamar. It did about half.
"Now use Flamethrower!" Malamar spat fire at Mega Sableye, who once again, managed to block it a little.
"Use Shadow Claw once more!" Mega Sableye slashed Malamar once again. This time, knocking it out.
"Hmm. Impressive."
"Okay," I said. "I've beat you. Now please, retract the Ultimate Weapon."
"No," Xerosic said. "You want to be a hero over a Rhyhorn Racer? You stop it." Xerosic showed me the two buttons. "One of these buttons will deploy the ultimate weapon, whilst the other shuts it down. Go on, choose."
I looked at both. I thought about everything. No, the blue one. Orange is the Flare colour, so that would mean it would be the right one.
I pressed it and…
"Nice try!" Xerosic pushed the other one. "There is no button that stops it! We're not stupid! That button does nothing! But this… deploys it! Look at the screen!"
The screen showed Geosenge Town. Suddenly, bursting out through the middle, was a large silver machine. It spread itself out, like a flower. Houses were knocked over; the only building still intact being the Pokémon Center. Xerosic laughed maniacally as all the residents came out of their house and saw what was going on.
"Why so sad?" Xerosic asked. "You got the right choice! But I made my own choice, and now, the Ultimate Weapon is right there! Ha ha ha! We will have a Kalos region that is TRULY beautiful! Keep this up, we will create a more beautiful wor-" Suddenly, his Holo Caster went off. Xerosic answered it. "What? I'm in the middle of something."
"The tree," said a Grunt on the other end. "We were about to incinerate it, but now its glowing."
"It… can't be!" Xerosic said.
Me and Xerosic ran over to the room where the tree was. The glowing tree was on a pedestal with Houndoom surrounding it.
"Don't just stand there!" Xerosic said. "Burn it! Burn it to ash!"
However, the tree started glowing brighter and brighter. Eventually, I had to shield my eyes. When the glowing had died down, in the trees place was a large-blue Pokémon with antlers that glowed with rainbow colours.
"That's… Xerneas!" I shouted.

"Xerneas!" I shouted. "Thank goodness you woke up! We need your help!"
"I think you've helped enough!" Xerosic said, grabbing me by the neck. I gagged and spluttered. "You… have gone too far! Stay in Rhyhorn racing where you belong!"
Suddenly, Xerneas rammed into Xerosic. I was let go and breathed heavily in response. I looked up at Xerneas, who was gesturing me onto its back. I got on, and we escaped the dreadful lab.

Xerneas emerged from the awful lab. Lumiose City was so silent compared to earlier. Most people had been evacuated. The only talking was pretty much a message on the big screens from Malva, praising Lysandre for his goals.
"It's… awful," I said.
"Do not worry," Xerneas said telepathically. "You have me on my side now. But I cannot do it all. You are the hero Kalos needs, as well as your friends. But we will strike tomorrow."
"Why not now?" I asked.
"You've done enough, take some rest. But also, because tomorrow is when… they awaken Yveltal."
"What?!" I shouted. Realising that, I decided that Xerneas was right. I needed to be in the right mind if I was going to fight the Pokémon of destruction.
