Summary: He shouldn't have agreed to this. He despised humans, and the last thing he wanted to do was mate with one. However, with the success of the previous year, Sesshomaru has no choice but to compete in this year's forage. Especially if he wants to have heirs. So he'll choose a mate. He'll just treat this like any business transaction he's ever done. No emotions involved. That should be easy. Right?
They walked in the direction that Jiro and Lila had taken, which didn't take them long. Oh God! The fox had her pushed up against a tree, and they were seriously making out. He was dry humping her and it sounded like Lila was well on her way to… well, to having a party in her pants…That, and he had his hands up her top, squeezing her boobs in tandem. These two hadn't wasted any time.
"Stop mauling that woman." Sesshomaru growled.
"My name is Lila." She said, as Jiro came up for air. She was panting heavily as well.
"I do not care." He said to her. Then he glanced down at Rin. "That is Jiro." He pointed at the other man. "He is leader of the fox demon tribe."
"Oh my God!" Lila shrieked. "I knew you were someone important, but I had no idea you lead your own tribe."
"You better believe it." Jiro winked at her. She shrieked again as he lifted her into his arms. "Lila and I had a discussion."
"I could see that." Sesshomaru said, emotionless.
Jiro grinned. "She's tired and hungry. They gave the humans shitty tasting protein bars for the forage instead of any real food." He pulled a face. "We're going to walk until nightfall and then set up camp, closer to the river. My woman wants some roast meat. You're welcome to join the party."
"No thanks." Sesshomaru said. "I would like to get back."
Jiro was right, although the protein bars hit the spot, they weren't very appealing. The thought of sinking her teeth into freshly barbecued meat, dripping with fat, made Rin's stomach growl.
Jiro laughed. "It looks like your woman likes the idea." Oh shit! Had he heard that from way over there? Of course he had. Demons had a good sense of hearing.
Sesshomaru turned to her. "Do you wish to camp out with them?" He didn't look happy about it.
The thing was, the thought of being alone with him so soon nerve-wracked her a little bit. He was just so intimidating, she wasn't sure she was ready for that yet. Even as a young girl when she had dinner with him, she was internally nervous. Though being alone with him wasn't ideal, sleeping out in the wild wasn't all that appealing either. On the other hand, at least they wouldn't be alone. This way she could have a night to mentally and physically prepare herself for what was to come once they reached the castle.
"I'd like to camp, if that's okay with you? I'm hungry and tired. I'll never be able to walk all night."
Sesshomaru frowned, those beautiful yet intense golden eyes of his bore into her brown ones. "I would never expect you to walk. I would carry you."
She snorted out a laugh. "What, the entire way? No way."
He remained perfectly serious. "I am not a weak human, like yourself. I have the strength and stamina to carry you and not become tired."
"Wow, you sure have an ego on you." The words just came out.
"This has nothing to do with ego." Deadpan.
"Oh! Okay." Maybe he could carry her. "If you say so."
"I do." It came out growly. "I am carrying you."
"Demanding as well I see. Do you plan on telling me what to do all the time?" Just because she told him earlier that she was grateful for what he did for her, didn't mean that he had a right to talk to her like this. She wasn't the little girl anymore that needed his help. She was a confidant young woman who had so much going for her now. This relationship wasn't going to work if she just let him walk all over her and make all the decisions.
"I am not demanding." Sesshomaru looked put out.
"You kinda are." Jiro chimed in.
"No one asked you."
Jiro held Lila in one arm, and raised his free arm as a sign of apology. "Forget I said anything."
Sesshomaru sighed loudly. "This is ridiculous, just let me carry you. I assure you that I can handle it. We need to make ground before nightfall. Unless you feel you can keep up."
"Now, that wasn't so hard was it?" Rin knew that she was busting his chops but at the same time they hardly knew each other. She didn't want him to think that he could order her around and that she'd be fine with it.
Sesshomaru turned his head away, not saying another word. This certainly wasn't going to be easy. Sure, he admitted that he did find her attractive, and she of course finds him attractive, despite his attitude. But relationships were all about chemistry, weren't they? At least in the beginning. Did he really plan on picking someone he didn't have those kinds of feelings for? What would be the point in that? From the way they started out, it sure looked like they certainly had their work cut out for them if they were to make this work.

Lila slumped back against the tree trunk, giving a loud moan and patting her belly. "That was the best steak I've ever had in my whole entire life."
Rin made a sound of agreement and rubbed her own distended belly. "I couldn't eat another bite even if I wanted to." They had all eaten like there was no tomorrow.
The whole set-up was rustic. They had grilled chunks of meat on long pieces of stick and then proceeded to eat their dinner right off the makeshift skewers. It was the best thing she had tasted in the longest time.
"I'll hunt for you anytime, sweetness." Jiro pulled her against him.
Rin couldn't believe at how well the two of them were getting along. They seemed completely relaxed in one another's company, like they'd been dating for a long time. She only heard about something like this happening in movies or books.
Lila made a disgusted noise. "Hunted? As in you butchered an innocent animal?" She crinkled her nose in clear disgust.
Jiro frowned. "Yes. How did you think we got the meat? It's not like we have a store or a butcher shop around here."
"Eeeeew!" Lila pulled a face. "What did I just eat anyway? I thought it was beef."
Jiro laughed. "Beef? No way. That was cane rat. I bet you never knew that rodent tasted so good?"
Lila slapped a hand over her mouth and made a choking, gagging noise. Her eyes turned watery and she looked like she was going to barf any second.
"I'm only joking, sweetness." Jiro laughed. "You should see your face right now."
"That's not funny." Lila mock punched his arm, her face looking more pale than usual.
"Those were a couple of deer steaks." Rin said.
"You could tell?" Jiro asked her, surprised.
"One of my friends couldn't decide on place to eat for her birthday, so I suggested one to her. It so happened that they served deer steak. Even though it was a five star restaurant and cost a pretty penny, they had some really excellent food there."
"Pretty surprising. It's rare to find a human with taste like yours." Jiro commented, impressed.
"I just love food." Rin answered with a smile.
Surprisingly, Jiro wasn't the only one impressed. Sesshomaru didn't think someone as young as Rin would have such elegant tastes. He would assume that most her age would only want to eat unhealthy and fast food. But now that he remembered, she did mention that she wanted to go to culinary school, so it was obvious she had a love for food. He couldn't help but let a small smile grace his lips. It seems he made the right decision to choose her after all. However, when Rin glanced in his direction, the smile Sesshomaru had on earlier turned to a frown. He turned serious the moment she laid eyes on him. What was that?
"So, what did you think? Did you enjoy the meal?" Sesshomaru asked her.
"It was really good." Her hand was still pressed against her belly.
"Good." He paused. "I take it you do not mind that we tracked down a deer and killed it for your supper?" It felt like he was testing her, but at the same time, it also felt like he cared about her opinion. Maybe this was the part of him getting to know her better.
Rin shook her head. "No. Like I said, I love food. So trying different types of food is really exciting for me."
"You mentioned that you wanted to go to culinary school. What made you decide that?"
Rin smiled. "It actually started when you took me to that restaurant."
His eyes widened in shock, though it quickly faded as she continued.
"I always remember the meal I had there, and it was so good. In fact, whenever my friends ask where I want to go for a birthday dinner or lunch, I always choose that place. I even order the same dish every year. It was always a reminder of a life-changing experience. Every time I got older, I look back on the day that I was given a new life."
Sesshomaru couldn't even form the words. This was surely was a first. Never in his life was he ever left speechless. The fact that her love of food was because of him was amazing in a way. A part of him was proud to know that he helped her decide what she wanted to do for her future, even though it wasn't intentional.
"I am glad that I was able to help you in some small way." He stated.
Rin stared at him in surprise, then she gave him a smile. "Don't be so modest! I know deep down you must be proud of me."
"Of course I am. It is good to know that you did not put my money to waste and chose to do something ridiculous." His delivery might've been bad, but at least she knew that he was proud of her in a way.
"What's your tribe like? Is where you're located have any good views?" Lila asked, catching the attention of Rin and Sesshomaru.
"My tribe is amazing." The flames illuminated Jiro's face. The guy looked like he was beaming. "They're fierce men and women and they're amazing. And we're located a few miles south of the main castle. We live deep within a section of the forest and have the best views of the mountains."
"That sounds amazing. I can't wait to see it!" Lila's eyes were wide and bright. She seemed genuinely excited.
"You're going to love it. However, it's not as grand as Lord Sesshomaru's castle. For the ruler of the Western Lands, his estate is vast and wide."
Rin turned to look at Sesshomaru in surprise. "You're the ruler of the Western Lands?"
"Of course."
"Wow Rin, not only did you snag a royal, but the king of the entire land!" Lila said.
"Um, well." Rin didn't know what to think. She remembered that Kagome mentioned that royals would be in this forage, but Rin didn't think that one would pick her! At first, she didn't care either if he was royal or not, but for the fact that Sesshomaru was in fact the ruler of the region they were in, that would possibly make her a queen. If they decide to mate. Oh boy, this was a lot to take in.
"Looks like you two need to have a little discussion." Jiro commented, seeing the confliction on her face. "Come on, sweetheart." Jiro tightened his arm around Lila. "Let's give these two some space."
"Um… I'm cold. Maybe it would be better if we stayed by the fire."
Jiro's gaze turned molten. Rin felt like she was intruding, so she looked away.
"I'll keep you warm, sweets. Don't you worry about that." The fox was trying to whisper into her ear, but his voice was so deep and so loud that everyone could hear.
Lila sighed. "If you think it'll work."
"Oh, it'll work all right."
Sesshomaru snorted in disgust, but didn't say anything. Oh shit! Were these two about to disappear in order to have sex? Probably. No, definitely, judging from the massive erection in Jiro's pants. She'd purposefully chosen the camping option so that she wouldn't have to be alone with Sesshomaru too soon. This was awkward. She turned away, trying to not pay attention to what was about to take place.
"So…" Rin blurted, her voice a little high-pitched. She needed to change the direction fast. "You're the ruler of the Western lands? Am I supposed to treat you differently? I mean, I'm okay with you being the ruler and everything. Um…not that it mattered to me either way. But, I don't think this is going to work if I'm expected to bow to you or anything like that. I want a partnership, equal ground. Is that going to be a problem?"
"First off, relax." Sesshomaru told her. "You do not need to be so nervous around me."
She gave a nervous laugh. "I'll try."
"And to answer your question, no, I do not expect you to treat me differently. As my mate, you would be the queen and a partner in all aspects of the word."
"That's good to know." Rin said. "Is it hard work being the ruler?"
"It is taxing at times." Sesshomaru stated. "Also, there would be times where you would have to sit in for important meetings and other gatherings. Would that be a problem for you?"
"No, of course not. Whatever that needs to be done, I'll be sure to do my best."
"Good." He nodded.
Okay, they were getting somewhere. Their conversation seemed to loosen up the tension between them.
"Do you by chance have any siblings?" She asked him.
"I have a younger brother."
"Really? I have siblings too. Brothers, five of them. I'm the youngest." Rin then frowned. "Sadly though they passed away with my parents when I was nine. It was a home-invasion. I was sleeping in my room and just heard noises. My brother, Jin, instructed me to hide under the bed and all I remember was hearing the screams of my family being murdered." A lone tear fell down her checks. "All I remember is that the police came barging in and escorted me out of the house. However, on the way I saw their lifeless bodies covered in blood in different parts of the house."
When he just gave her a look, Rin quickly wiped her eyes and gave a soft chuckle. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to pile this on you."
"It is alright." He stated. "If it is any consolation, I lost my father when I was fourteen, in human years. So I can understand how it is to lose a parent."
"I'm sorry." Rin told him.
"It had happened twenty years ago. I have long since moved on and continue to honor him by continuing to rule this land the way that he had."
Rin gave a nod, then looked at him surprise when she realized something. "Wait a minute…you mentioned earlier that you were fourteen in human years. How old are you actually?"
"I am over five hundred years old."
Rin looked at him in shock. Over five hundred years old with a face like that! Even though it shouldn't be surprising that he was older, much older, since demons aged differently from humans. It was still a shock knowing that he was this old and didn't look a day over thirty.
"What about in human years?" She asked, curious.
"About thirty-eight in human years."
So she was right. She was about to ask him another question when a loud moan punctured through the darkness.
"What was that?" She jumped to her feet.
There was another loud moan. Her heart rate jumped up. "That sounded like Lila. She sounds like she's in pain." Her own voice was laced with panic and concern.
Without really giving it any thought she turned to face the area where the noise had come from and was just about to take off in that direction when Sesshomaru grabbed her arm. "She is not in any pain."
"Yes, she is. Didn't you hear…" Rin felt her cheeks get super-hot. "Seriously? They're doing that? Is that what you're telling me?"
Sesshomaru let go of her arm and turned away, emotionlessly. "Yes."
There were a couple of louder drawn-out moans. "Good God, yes!" Lila shouted. Right! She felt like a total idiot. They were definitely doing the nasty. Lila moaned…again.
Rin's face blushed scarlet. It wasn't like this was the first time she heard other people having sex before. She remembered a few times in school she caught wind of other teenagers having sex in certain areas of the school. She even heard a bit inside the girls dorm after curfew, normally when some of them would sneak their boyfriends inside.
"They sure aren't being modest, aren't they?" She muttered. She never understood the reason for people finding the thrill of having sex where others could hear. "They must know that we can hear them." Rin sat back down.
The groans had turned into high pitched cries.
"I think they are beyond caring and, for the record, they are not having sex."
"It sure sounds like it. How would you know anyway?" She glanced at Sesshomaru.
"Demons have enhanced hearing." He replied, simply.
"What's he doing to her then?" She held up her hand. "Never mind, don't answer that." Why did she have to ask such a stupid question? Lila made this loud keening noise that had orgasm written all over it. The noise went on for what felt like ages. No way in hell could a pants party last that long. Could it? At long damn last, there was silence.
"Thank goodness." Rin muttered. She didn't know if she could take hearing it anymore.
Sesshomaru threw a few more logs on the fire. "You should get some sleep. It is going to take almost the entire day to make it back to the castle and you will need your rest."
Rin nodded her head in understanding, letting out a long yawn. She didn't realize how tired she was until now. It was a long and vigorous day and sleep sounded like a good idea at the moment.
"Use your pack as a pillow." He handed her backpack.
"Thanks."
"That jacket looks warm." He glanced down at the garment in question. "Do not worry, we have plenty of wood, I will keep the fire going so that you do not get cold." He was frowning. He scooted further away from her, putting his back to the fire and inadvertently to her.
Rin wasn't sure what she had expected but this sure wasn't it. Body warmth was important, especially when the temperatures dropped. She had to admit, snuggling up to him did sound good at the moment. Maybe he was trying to be courteous. Though he could've also offered that fur around him, because she wasn't sure her jacket was going to help much during the night. Though even if he had offered to snuggle with her she would've turned him down, so maybe it was a good thing he hadn't offered.
She laid down, also putting her back to the fire. However, before she could fully close her eyes to get some rest, a loud groan was heard. Sound sure did travel in the woods at night…unfortunately.
"Oh fuck, you're good with your mouth." Jiro growled out the words.
"Really?" Rin huffed, turning back towards the fire and giving her bag a punch to try and make it more comfortable to lie on. It seemed that hearing a guy in the throes of passion was just as disturbing and gross just as much as hearing Lila earlier.
Rin stared across the fire at Sesshomaru.
"Ignore it and get some sleep." Sesshomaru sounded pissed off…royally pissed off.
She'd find it funny if she wasn't disgusted herself. He didn't sound like the others having sex affected him in any way. He might be demanding and a bit emotionless, but at least he wasn't a pervert, that was a relief.
Jiro was loud and made more noise than Lila. Grunting, growling and plenty of dirty talk. Words that had Rin blushing a thousand times more. The guy also had a ton of stamina because it seemed to go on and on and on. His orgasm was quick and loud. A roar that echoed through the entire forest, he sounded like a grizzly bear. Not that she knew what a grizzly bear in the throes of orgasm sounded like. He probably scared away all the wild animals in a wide radius, including the grizzly bears.
A laugh slipped out. She managed to stop it quite quickly.
"What is so funny?" Sesshomaru didn't sound happy.
"Nothing."
"Then go to sleep." He growled at her.
"I'm trying but it's hard with all the noise."
Just as she was dozing off, Lila started up again. "You've got to be kidding me!" Rin unzipped her backpack and pulled out her spare set of jeans. She then proceeded to lay back down. Her pack wasn't as comfortable without the extra padding but at least she had something to cover her head. More importantly, her ears. It definitely muffled the cries. And then the weirdest thing happened… she fell asleep.

They woke up at sunrise the next morning. Lila and Jiro were snuggled in each other's arms, kissing each other continually and calling each other by endearments. It was sickening and yet sweet at the same time. The way they acted, you'd think that they'd been together for years. After a quick breakfast of deer steak, they had set off. Four hours later, Rin couldn't hold out any longer and Sesshomaru had carried her the rest of the way. He didn't speak to her. Her only solace was that he didn't seem keen on speaking to any of them and when asked a direct question his answers were short. She didn't want to admit it, but it felt nice being held by him. Not to mention the fur he had was extra soft that she was able to take a nap.
Within a few hours, and after she woke up from her nap, they went their separate ways. During the rest of the way they traveled in complete silence. She didn't bother trying to talk to him, mainly because she wanted to start mentally preparing herself for what was to come. Suddenly, without warning, he took to the sky, having Rin give out a loud shriek of surprise. She tightened her grip on him and closed her eyes shut. She was afraid to open her eyes, too afraid to look down and freak out in his arms. She never was a big fan of high places. Luckily, he wasn't going to fast for her to feel sick and he did have a good handle on her so she wouldn't fall.
After thirty minutes, Rin felt Sesshomaru loosen his grip on her to let her down, however, she tightened her grip on him.
"It is alright. We are here so you can let go." He stated.
Rin opened one eye, and noticed that they were on a balcony. Deciding that she was indeed safe, she cautiously let one of her legs fall onto the solid floor. Once she was fully on the ground, Sesshomaru stepped off the balcony, leading to the attached room. When she gained her bearings, she followed after him into the vast room. She looked around the space. It was big, with high ceilings. The room was painted in beige and whites, with hardwood smooth floors. There was a sitting area that held grey furniture of two matching large chairs and a modern glass coffee table sat in front of them. There was also a fireplace that was attached in the wall that acted as a border to the other side of the room. On the opposite of the border, was a huge king-sized bed with a nightstand on each side and a chaise lounge chair. Overall, Rin was truly impressed with the room. It was tastefully decorated and matched him well. Perfectly suited for a king.
"This is my chamber." Sesshomaru didn't sound happy and when she looked at him, he was frowning. "Make yourself comfortable. Your things will be brought in shortly. I will have food delivered."
"Where are you going?" It was out before she could stop it.
"I have things I need to attend to, a kingdom to run." His body turned slightly towards the door.
"Oh…of course." She nodded.
"I will be back later. Get some rest, clean up, and recharge."
She probably did smell bad. She hadn't had a bath since the morning of the forage, and after spending the night camping out in the forest, a bath sounded wonderful.
"I will return later." He stated. He was already half out the door when he turned back. "Do not try and go anywhere without me. Someone else might try to claim you and I would be forced to kill them."
He left before she could say anything. He was joking. Had to be. Although, he had looked deadly serious. Okay, maybe he wasn't joking. Exaggerating then maybe. Yeah, that had to be it. Deciding not to dwell on it any longer, she headed toward the bathroom.
Once Rin entered, she gasped in awe at it. The bathroom was huge. Just like the outside, the bathroom was luxurious in every way. There was a walk-in shower in the corner along with a large oval shaped tub that sat in the middle of the floor. The room was decorated in colors of beige and ivory. It seemed that Sesshomaru did like plain colors. Just looking at the tub, it seemed like it was calling for her to take a soak in it. Though, she decided to save that for later and hoped in the shower instead. She discarded her dirty clothes and put them in the large basket that was in the corner, then stepped into the shower. When she turned on the facet, the water pressure felt so wonderful on her skin that she was glad she opted for a shower instead of the tub. She probably would've fell asleep in there.
After her shower, she got out and changed into a pair of blue jeans and a plain t-shirt she had in her backpack and brushed her slightly damp hair before putting it into a high bun.
When she stepped back into the sitting area, there was a knock on the door. She went towards the door to see who it was. "Who is it?"
"It's Kagome."
Rin opened the door to indeed see Kagome on the other side of the door. "Kagome." She said, happily. "Come in." She moved back to allow her to enter.
Kagome fully came into the room and put a bag down at her feet. She proceeded to put her hands on her hips and gave Rin the once-over with a strange look on her face.
"What?"
Kagome smiled. "So you got Sesshomaru." She made a snorting noise and shook her head.
"It's not a huge deal, is it? I mean, maybe it is since he's the ruler of these lands and all. Though he is a bit intimidating. I can understand. When I first met him he was intimidating as well. Though I also thought he does have a giant stick up his ass. Though once I got to know him, he wasn't so bad. I'm hoping he'll relax a bit when he… forget I said anything." She gave a wave of the hand.
Rin was wondering what she had to say, but decided to ignore it. "It's actually all right, besides, I met Sesshomaru before when I was little."
"What?" Kagome asked, surprised. "How do you know him already?"
"It's a long story. But to get the short end of it, I was living on the streets when I was ten and he found me one night. Fed me and made it possible for me to continue my education."
Kagome was shocked to hear it from Rin's mouth, but surprisingly wasn't too shocked by it. Inuyasha had mentioned it to her that when he and Kyo did their interviews, they had interviewed Rin and she told them her story. Inuyasha had told her that he thought Rin would be an ideal candidate for his brother, and after speaking with Rin herself, Kagome had to agree with her husbands words.
"I was very thankful for what he did and I really wanted to thank him. That's kind of one of the reasons why I answered the ad in the first place. For a chance to see him again and thank him. Of course, I'm happy that I was able to accomplish my mission and thank him, so I hope I can repay him this way by becoming his mate." Rin said.
"Well I'm just happy that I have someone else that's human I can talk too. It even makes it better that we'll be in-laws."
"In-laws?"
"Oh right, I didn't mention it to you ladies when you arrived." Kagome said. "My mate is Inuyasha, he's the younger brother of Sesshomaru. Which makes him the second in line of these lands or prince if you will."
"Wow…I had no idea." Rin said, surprised.
"So if you have any problems, just come to me and let me know. I'm still getting used to some one of the responsibilities in being the mate of a prince."
Rin nodded. That's good to know she'll have someone to go to when she's having trouble and needs advice on things.
Kagome clapped her hands together. "So! Now the real question, are you happy about being picked by Sesshomaru? I know you mentioned you were able to thank him and such, and you were agreeing to be his mate as repayment. But are the two of you getting along?"
"It's really too soon to say." Rin replied. Though what she really wanted to tell her was that they hadn't gotten off to a great start. And even though they had some nice conversations the night before, it had gotten awkward again this morning. Though she didn't tell Kagome that.
"Come on, give me something!" Then she pulled a face. "You'll have to excuse me. I know I'm being a bit nosy. Like I mentioned, you might end up being my sister-in-law. Also, I think we could be friends. It's crazy because I've never had many friends, never had many people in my life. I'm really happy and…" She paused, raising her eyes to the ceiling while she thought up the right word, "safe and did I mention happy?" A big grin graced her lips. "I wouldn't mind a friend to share that all with. Sorry if I'm coming on too strong. If I am, you can say so."
Rin laughed. "No, it's okay. I didn't have many friends growing up as well, so I'm glad you're here and you want to be friends with me."
"Good. Now back to my earlier question. Were you really happy he picked you?"
"Well, um." Rin started. "To be honest, Sesshomaru was hesitate to pick me. At first he didn't want to choose me because he was attractive to me."
Kagome laughed. "You're kidding me! He didn't want you at first because he was attracted to you?" She shook her head. "Well, I suppose it made sense. He was anti in participating in the first place, and he has a thing against humans. However, the fact that he helped you years ago shows his view on us will change, and that could be why he's fighting his attraction to you."
Rin nodded, not commenting on anything else. He didn't care for humans? That was surprising. Then why would he bother to help her years ago? Not that it mattered now because, she was grateful she was able to break his views to help her, but it was still something she wondered about.
She was about to question her more on the subject when Kagome interjected. "So, besides being grateful to him, what do you think about him, physically?"
"Ummm…" Rin felt heat flood her cheeks.
"You think he's hot, don't you?" Kagome gave her a knowing grin, which caused Rin to blush deeper. "Oh my God, it's written all over your face!"
"I mean he is good-looking. I've never seen a guy as good-looking as him before. I didn't really appreciate his looks until I saw him again."
"Well I'm so glad you think so. I really hope you guys work out." Kagome grinned. "And if he finds you attractive, obviously he's going to want to have sex with you soon. I hope you know that."
Oh God that's right. Even though she clearly had in mind to stay and become his mate, it was really up to him and if they would work out in the end. He could one day decide that she wasn't the right choice to be his partner and she could decide that this wasn't working out. However, in getting to know each other, they would eventually have to have sex. Sesshomaru had said so himself. This news was followed by a rush of nerves induced by adrenaline. Rin tried hard to remain neutral.
"Don't worry too much about it. Demons are really good in bed… oh and they're really well-endowed but don't let that scare you. They've had sex with human women before so he'll fit."
"You didn't just say that." Rin blushed deeply.
Kagome smiled. "It's a genuine concern when you first get a look at what's going on down there. Trust me."
"I don't even know if we'll have sex."
"Silly girl!" Kagome rolled her eyes. "Of course you'll have sex. Sooner than you think, trust me. They're charmers in their own rough around the edges way. You only realize you've had sex after you've had it."
Rin gave a nervous laugh. She couldn't help but looking at the king-sized bed. She felt scared at the prospect of getting into bed with him. Hopefully it won't happen soon like Kagome thinks it would, because she already knew that she would decline him. Maybe…

After a few more hours of talking and having lunch together, Kagome left in order to give Rin some downtime. Her suitcase had arrived the minute Kagome left, so Rin was happy that she had her sleep clothes for later. However, once night fell, after she showered and was ready for bed, she noticed that Sesshomaru hadn't come back yet.
Even the next morning, after Rin woke and changed, there was still no sign of him. It didn't even look like he came by at all. She had breakfast alone on the balcony. It was nice overlooking the vast greens and hills, something she wouldn't see in the city back home. It was beautiful indeed. Too bad that she couldn't really appreciate it without having someone with her to take it all in with. All she kept thinking about was why Sesshomaru wasn't here. Where was he? Why wasn't he there trying to get to know her? Trying to make some sort of an effort.
She had to remind herself that he was the ruler. He had said that he had duties to attend to but surely he could've come back at some point? Even just to have a meal with her. There was only one bed so maybe he was trying to be polite and give her some space. Finally, after lunch, there was the sound of the door opening and he entered. She'd just been settling down to take an afternoon nap. It wasn't like there was a whole lot to do in this place. Especially since she couldn't go out anywhere.
Sesshomaru didn't look all that good. From the looks of it, it looked like he'd been up all night. His eyes were bloodshot and he had a pinched expression. Like he really had a stick up his ass.
Rin couldn't help but think of Kagome's words. It was all she could do to keep from laughing. He still looked gorgeous though.
She sat up and tucked some of her hair behind her ear. It was loose, she didn't like sleeping with her hair up. He gave her the once-over, he frowned and his jaw tightened. What? Did he not like that she was asleep in the middle of the day? Maybe he thought she was being lazy. It couldn't be what she was wearing. A plain white top that hung off her right shoulder and a pair of denim shorts.
"I came to check in on you." He stayed by the door. He looked tense.
"I'm doing okay, thanks."
He gave a nod. "Good. How is the food?"
"Fine… really good actually." She stretched and his eyes darkened. He looked…angry.
"Do you have everything you need? I see that you are wearing your own things so your bag was delivered."
She nodded.
"Good." His voice was rough, not even a hint of friendliness.
"Wait, where are you going?" She asked him, once he was making his way towards the door. Man, she sounded desperate. She didn't want to appear needy.
"I have some things I need to do." He was already on his way to the door. "I will see you later." He turned the handle.
"Yeah, sure," Rin said. "Later." But the door was already closing and clicking shut.
She didn't understand what just happened. It's like they went back to square one from the morning after the forage. Rin was really calling him a liar for saying that he was attracted to her. From the way he acted, it seemed like he didn't care much her. She was wondering if he even liked her. Wait. Stop. Maybe he was just really busy. He had plenty of responsibilities, so Rin just needed to give him the benefit of the doubt. He'd said that he would come by later. Maybe they could have dinner together and talk. Yeah, that was it. She started to feel better about the whole thing. It was going to be okay. She just had to believe it.
