Chapter 18: Date Night

Jack was looking himself over in the mirror in his room.

He was dressed in a dark blue polo shirt and brown dress pants. His hair was combed, so there were no tangles in it, and he was excited!

Jack was going on his very first date with Raven. They were going to dinner, and then the movies.

Jack grabbed his staff and walked out of his room towards Ravens. He took his staff everywhere, since it was what gave him his powers, and he didn't wanna risk him and Raven being defenseless on their date.

Jack soon stood outside of Ravens door, and knocked on the door.

He heard Raven, "who is it?"

Jack, "it's Jack. Are you ready yet?"

Raven, "almost, give me a minute."

Jack, "take your time sweetie."

Unknown to either of them, BB, Vic and Blackfire were watching from around the corner.

BB, "I still can't believe those two are going out on a date."

Blackfire, "are you kidding? They blush at each other constantly. It was bound to happen sooner or later."

Vic, "I'm just amazed that Raven's been opening up more since that incident with the mirror."

Blackfire, "we can probably thank you three for that."

The three of them grew silent as the door opened.

Jack, "so-"

Jack's words were caught in his throat at the sight before him.

Raven was dressed in a sparkling black shoulderless dress that went to her knees. She had some eyeshadow and black lipstick on.

Raven, "h-how do I look?"

Jack, "R-Raven, you look breathtaking."

Raven gave a genuine smile as she blushed like a tomato.

Raven, "thank you. Y-you look handsome."

Jack, "thank you. Now, are you ready to head to the movies?"

Raven, "yeah. They're playing a few older films there. I'm hoping we can catch Bad Dreams on Oak Avenue."

Jack, "don't worry, I checked the schedules, we should be able to make it after dinner."

Raven smiled and Jack took her hand, and the two made their way to the elevator.

BB, Vic and Blackfire looked at one another, eager to see where the night would take all of this.

….

Meanwhile, we see Rose sitting on the couch in some new clothes. She was wearing an orange hoodie with blue accents, with a grey shirt underneath. It had a logo on it of a cigarette in a circle with a line over it.

(Think that one shirt Marceline wore in "I Remember You.")

Starfire was off in the training room, while Dick was in his room looking over their files on criminals they've faced.

Rose looked around, and then pulled her hair back to show her eyepatch.

And then, she suddenly removed it.

Underneath was a vacant eyehole with a scar over it. Rose felt the scar, and sighed as she felt the eyelid that bore the scar as well.

Rose regretted doing this to herself for a very long time.

And she hoped her new family could help ease the pain...

….

Later, we see Raven and Jack sitting at a table in a nice looking restaurant.

The two were chatting as they waited for their food to be served.

Meanwhile, outside, Vic, BB and Blackfire were all hiding in some bushes. Vic was using his robotic eye to get a closer look.

BB, "what do you see?"

Vic, "I think Jack told a joke. And Raven's laughing at it."

Blackfire, "a polite laugh, or a real laugh?"

Vic, "well, her cheeks are turning red, so I'd say it's genuine."

BB grumbled, "how come she never laughs at my jokes?"

Vic, "because-"

Blackfire, "don't say it, we don't want a T-Rex versus Cyborg fight ruining our friends' night."

BB and Vic nodded.

Back inside the restaurant, Jack finished telling a story.

Jack, "and that's how Bryan lost the use of his middle fingers for a year."

Raven actually snorted in laughter at the story.

Raven, "you and your brother got into some crazy stuff, huh?"

Jack, "yeah, I hope he's doing alright."

Raven, "you haven't seen him in awhile, have you?"

Jack shook his head no.

Jack, "last I heard, he's living somewhere in Jump City. But with our lifestyle as heroes, it ain't easy to stay in touch."

Raven nodded in understanding.

Jack, "so…. Do you have any stories?"

Raven looked to the side, "there weren't many people for me to associate with back home. And anyone who did, it was usually with my mother, since she became an important figure there."

Jack, "you've never really told me about your mother. I remember seeing your father. That big red monster."

Raven, "Trigon the Terrible."

Jack nodded, "I'm guessing you got your looks from your mother?"

Raven nodded.

Jack, "Raven, you don't have to tell me anything you don't want to."

Raven, "no, it's okay…."

….

"A long time ago, my mother ran away from home. She was your typical runaway, rebelling against her parents. But she went through a lot of hardship. And then, one day, she found the church who worshipped my father as a God. She had no idea what she had gotten herself into until it was too late. She was led to believe that my father was an angel. But in reality, he was a monster. After meeting my father, she ran again. Only this time, she had to make things work. Because she was going to be a mother. Eventually, my mother was met by people against Trigon, who wanted to keep me away from him, so I may never aid in his evil. My mother was taken to Azarath, where she raised me. Most children stayed away from me, frightened of me because of my father. My mother never saw a monster though. She always treated me like an angel sent from above. Eventually, I set out to form my own life..."

….

Raven, "... and here we are."

Jack, "Raven... I'm so sorry your mother and you had to go through so much."

Raven, "it's alright. If I hadn't, I might not have met you."

Jack smiles as he says, "well, I'm glad our paths crossed like this."

Raven and Jack smile at one another before touching hands.

Soon, their food arrived, and the two began to dig in.

Raven ate a small salad and steak with some tea, while Jack had a chicken tender meal with fries and water. The two made chit chat while they ate, talking about various aspects of their lives.

Afterwards, they paid for the meal and the two of them left for the movies, Raven seemingly excited to see the flick.

BB, Vic and Blackfire continued to spy on the date, grabbing some burritos on the way at a taco truck.

….

Back at the tower, we see Starfire back in the living room.

Rose had dozed off while holding Percy.

Starfire was just thinking to herself.

Wondering if she would find love, like Jack and Raven had?

Only time would tell.

Little did she know that Dick was thinking the exact same things as he finished sorting out some things in his room.

….

We see Jack and Raven watching the film, seeing the burned man in a sweater and fedora with knives on his fingers chasing a girl.

The character was named Eddie Craven.

Jack was the one who held onto Raven whenever he got scared, making her giggle. The popcorn sat on Raven's lap, since she didn't jump around as much during horror films.

Unknown to either of them, their three teammates were watching them more than the film.

BB whispered, "he put his arm around her shoulders."

Vic whispered back, "I can see that."

Blackfire whispered, "anyone notice that Jack is getting more frightened while watching the movie than Raven is?"

BB whispered, "yeah, what a wimp."

Right as BB said that, in the movie, Eddie Craven suddenly jumped out of a room.

Vic had to put his hand over BB's mouth as he screamed.

Blackfire had to cover her own mouth as she snickered at BB's reaction.

The movie continued as normal, and when it finished, Jack and Raven left with their three teammates following behind.

….

We see Rose had woken up from her nap, and she saw Dick sitting at the table with some playing cards. He turned to Rose and asked, "hey Rose, you wanna play some cards?"

Rose, "uh, sure."

Rose got up and sat opposite of Dick. The two began to shuffle their cards and began their game.

….

We see Jack and Raven later walking through the park, smiling as they look at the moonlight shining on a nearby pond.

Raven felt at peace as she walked with Jack. To Raven, the night was perfect. The same was said for Jack.

Meanwhile, BB was hiding in a tree, while Vic and Blackfire were in some bushes.

Soon, the two love birds were standing on a bridge above the lake in the pond.

Raven, "Jack, this night has been absolutely perfect."

Jack, "agreed. Spending this night with you has been beautiful. You wanna head home and snuggle on the couch for a while to cap the night off?"

Raven, "that would be perfect."

Jack and Raven began making their way home, and as this happened, our other three began hurrying home as well, so Jack and Raven wouldn't know they had been there.

….

Later, we see Jack and Raven back home from their date. They walked into the living room to see what everyone was up to.

Vic and BB were playing video games, but they seemed very tired.

Dick and Rose were playing poker.

Backfire was drinking an entire jug of water in exhaustion, and Starfire was playing with Percy.

Raven and Jack got onto the couch and started snuggling under a blanket.

Dick, "hey guys, how was your date?"

Raven, "perfect."

Jack, "our evening went off wonderfully."

Raven, "although, I kept getting the feeling we were being watched."

Rose, "eh, I'm sure it was just your imagination."

No-one noticed the nervous looks BB, Vic and Blackfire gave.

….

During all of this, we see a lone figure standing atop a rooftop, staring out over Jump City.

The man is roughly the same age as Jack, maybe slightly younger, his hairy is spiky, and a dirty blonde color. Their face is covered by a black mask.

One arm is actually made of a shiny metal.

As they stared out at the city, they said a single name.

"Jack."

You guys can probably guess what movie I'm referencing earlier. Nightmare on Elm Street.

Doing these chapters of the characters relaxing are some of my favorites. And any chapter focusing on Raven, since it allows me to throw in moments between her and Jack.

The next chapter will be with that creepy as heck puppet king that sounds like Peter Lorre.
