"Noooo, don't gooooo, don't leave me alone with Rufus and Adam!"
"You say something you airhead?"
"I said that I can't imagine working alongside you without Skye around! Whyyyyy? Why is it that the person leaving is the only normal person on the team?!"
"There, there," I tried my best to reassure Amy that everything will be fine without me around... Alright, who am I kidding? Jacky is fine, but ultimately not the closest friend with Amy. Adam is not the best person around to socialise with even if he is a dependable Ranger to rely on, and Rufus is… Rufus.
"I think she might have drank a little too much," Jacky scratched his chin in thought as Amy continued to drunkenly wail and hug me tightly, not wanting to let me go. This is supposed to be a farewell party for me as I am leaving the Rangers for better prospects.
I am joining the interpol.
It had somehow caught me by surprise that Looker had given Jacky the same offer he gave me but at the same time, it really shouldn't be a surprise. Jacky is just that skilled, and I'm sure that even the STAR forces had their eyes on him after his performance back at the operation on Five Island. Jacky had seriously given the offer some thought, but had decided to reject it in the end and continue to stick with the Rangers.
"I would say it would be a headache trying to fill the position you will be leaving behind but other than that, congrats, Skye, not everyone could claim to be part of something big like the interpol."
"Heh, thanks boss," I accepted Pyral's words. "Sorry about leaving at such short notice, especially when manpower now is kinda low."
"Don't sweat over it," Pyral waved my concerns away. "On the contrary, you brought honour to us Rangers, especially to our squadron. Now I can brag to my fellow commanders and say "Hey see that? That crazy flying girl in the interpol doing superhero shit? She was my Ranger, I trained her.""
"Awwwww."
"By any chance, any of you superheroes taking in any sidekicks? I can volunteer!" Rufus laughed as he swung an arm around Jacky, holding a mug with his other hand. "I can work for free too if there are any pretty gals in the interpol!"
"You will be the first ever person that the interpol will arrest for sexual harrassment."
"Damn, now I kinda want a female Ranger to fill up Skye's spot, just to see the flirt going after her like a little puppy," Adam grunted before turning to face me. "That said, I think I will miss you, honest. Deployments are going to be a lot slower now without that dragonite of yours."
"Awww, how sweet of you."
"Fuck off bird-brain."
"Actually," Pyral drew out his words slowly to catch our attention. "The higher-ups were recently discussing the possibility of rolling out another form of swift deployment that does not rely on teleportation, and the idea that is gaining the most traction right now is raising dragonites for the job. Don't say that you learn about this from me though, it's supposed to still be a secret."
"Wait, you shitting me right, boss?"
"No, it's just that Skye's dragonite was really too instrumental in the evacuation efforts during the whole National Day mess. We were the squadron that actually got the most number of people out of the stadium in the shortest time, simply because we had a dragonite doing all the heavy lifting. Not just that, because Professor Oak had hitched a ride on her dragonite and had testified to how fast a dragonite can be when it was trained solely for speed and transportation, the higher ups are really considering this possibility. It also helps that our deployment records had also shown that ever since Skye joined us, our deployment speed had drastically shortened simply because she can ferry us anywhere."
"But, dragonites, they aren't easy to raise, and that is not including how costly and time consuming it will be," Jacky pointed out.
"Exactly, but people are also arguing that the pros will outweigh the cons once we actually succeeded in raising dragonites to be able to excel in that specific job. Speed aside, dragonites have an overall gentle temperament, which is also what we need in our pokemon as Rangers when we are out there rescuing who we can, and dragonites are reliably powerful too. A dragonite, no matter how untrained in battling, is still a force to be reckoned with once it reaches that stage of their evolution. There are discussions that the 1st Ranger Regiment might be the testbed of this project with each squadron assigned with a dragonite, just to see how this pans out. If all goes well, the higher ups might really try to assign every Ranger squadron in Indigo with a dragonite for easier and faster deployment."
"Whoa, now you guys made me feel as if I did some sort of historical contribution to the Rangers," I cannot help but let out a low whistle after learning all of that. "Will my name be framed up in the Hall of Fame or something for this? Maybe I can get some sort of prize?"
"I can put in a request if you wish."
"I'm just joking."
"No, seriously, put her name in," Adam objected. "Just for shit and giggles. Skye Bale, the reason why every squadron now has a pseudo-legend. You think we use them to battle? Sorry bro, wrong answer, their only job is to transport our asses. We have motherfucking badass dragonites, as our personal stead."
"Imagine if this really gets approved, the STARs will have a fit if they knew we use dragonites not to battle, but for deployment, probably say something like this is a waste of resources or something similar," Rufus laughed uncontrollably with his back hunched, almost to the point of wheezing for air. "Oh man, I totally want to see it happen."
"Hey, but deployments will really never be the same if every squadron has a dragonite for the job. I mean, you guys rode Tino all the time, you should know."
"Wait, that totally means that we will be the first squadron they are testing this shit on," Adam groaned. "Oh come on, I just want a break."
"Uh uh, out of here. No longer my business," I crossed my arms in an X.
"Traitor!"
"Amy, you are drunk," I patiently tried to get Amy off the table where she was pointing at me and squinting her eyes real hard. I'm pretty sure she is seeing doubles of us right now.
"I'm, not, drunk!"
"Yes, yes, now get off the table. C'mere."
Amy's a sloppy drunk, who knew?
"Oh man, I already had so few opportunities to see you when you were a Ranger, and now you are sailing off to do PWL stuff? By the time we see each other again I might already be married or something!"
"Don't be dramatic, we can always have a video call when you miss me," I chided Ciel and ruffled his hair as I did one last check of the things that I had packed and will be bringing along with me. The interpol will set sail for Unova soon and I will be joining them.
Am I nervous? Yes, cos who wouldn't be? It's the interpol, a place where they only accept people who are the best in their fields and I'm not even confident enough to say that I'm the best Ranger around. Yet, I was accepted, acknowledged by Looker himself. Not too sure what that guy saw in me but I'm not going to complain.
Am I excited? Of course, because this will be the first time in this life that I will be able to travel overseas to another region, discounting my scarce few trips to Kanto when I was younger. I have no idea what to expect in Unova, but Shannon had said that if we were to compare using what we remembered from our previous lives, Indigo would be the near equivalent of modern day Japan, and Unova would be somewhat similar to modern day America.
Shannon's words did help to paint a better picture, but I still had no idea what to expect from it cos I had never been to the US before.
"So what exactly are you going to do? Arresting criminals?"
"I guess that's one part of the job, but Looker is well aware that I'm not the best battler around. I guess my main job shouldn't be too different from what I did in the Rangers, which is scouting and transportation and if required, rescue."
"So a glorified Ranger?"
"Hey."
"What? You said it, there's not much of a difference between what you will be doing and what you used to do!"
"But the way you said it sounded derogatory. Glorified Ranger? If it wasn't for us Rangers doing all the rescue work Johto would have been up in flames back in that Rocket fiasco."
"It was up in flames."
"Don't be a smartass with me," I swatted at Ciel's head, who simply ducked and stuck his tongue out at me in return.
"Honestly though, I'm surprised that big bro didn't even throw up a fuss when you really signed the paper to be an interpol agent."
"Make that two," I replied as I finally locked my luggage shut. Had Falkner truly given up on trying to convince me otherwise, or did he have something else planned out?
Either way I wouldn't be too thrilled, but I guess he finally made a concession when it comes to the decisions that I made.
"If you see any cool or rare pokemon there remember to catch some for me. Unova pokemon are really special."
"What kinds are you looking for?" I asked, knowing that Ciel wasn't as particular as Falkner and I when it came to picking the type of pokemon we wanted to raise. Falkner and I are Flying type enthusiasts, but Ciel is fine with any type of pokemon as long as they are unique and interesting in his books although due to our family's history, he has a slight preference for Flying types.
"I already said it, something cool or rare!"
"Your definition of cool is not something that I share. You picked a wimpod cos you think it's cool, a bug. I'm not going to help you catch a Bug pokemon."
"Oh come on. You are a Ranger, sis! You shouldn't be scared of Bug types!"
"Was a Ranger," I corrected Ciel. "But if you want unique pokemon, maybe I can see if I could capture a rufflet or a vullaby. Those are rare to see in Indigo."
"And here I thought I could get a leavanny or a scolipede or a karrablast or maybe even a volcarona-"
"You are just messing with me now, you punk," I grabbed my little brother with a chokehold and rewarded him with the biggest noogie I could do. "One entire list of Bug types, and volcarona? Do you know just how rare those are even in Unova? I would have a better chance trying to strike a lottery."
"Hey I've seen people using it in Pokemon League Tournaments before! There's even a guy from Alola who used it in the last Ever Grande Conference! It's probably not as rare as people made it out to be as long as you can find their nests!"
"And what makes you think it would be easy to find their nests?" I huffed in part amusement and part exasperation. This little brother of mine, I swear…
"Cos I have the best Ranger in the world as my sis!"
"Sucking up to me now isn't going to convince me to get you a volcarona, if that's even remotely possible."
"Drats, I thought it might work."
"Any other type of pokemon are fine, but no Bug types, that's final. No way in hell I'm going to find and catch any of those for you."
"Sissssssss!"
"No means no, you brat."
"You've changed! You weren't so cold hearted before!"
"I still haven't forgotten how you tricked me into giving you a free ride to the Bug Catching Contest that day. Look at how well things turned out from that."
"But you caught Heli from the contest! You didn't lose out on anything!"
"I nearly lost my life you little shit. You want to try going up against a Rocket Executive?"
"If it means getting myself a volcarona I might consider…"
This little brat.
AN: Just to say that I'm not dead, I guess…?
So for people asking for updates for the pokemon series (I personally refer to them as the Seven Sages series until I found a better name lol) IJWTTTW currently has 30 chapters written for the Unova arc, RE has 37, RFTS has 10… Like wow, when put this way I guess I surprise even myself. But the other four stories still has 0 chapters written out. Not too sure if I should update after I had at least a few chapters written for each of the seven stories or I should just go ahead and post the current ones I have at the expense of possibly spoiling the plot of the other unwritten stories. Maybe some of you would have bright ideas to share?
The Unova arc is really tediously long though, wasn't expecting it to be such a long work in progress when I first started it. If each of the seven stories requires me to write at least 30 chapters each for the Unova arc (inserts shudder here) it would take me at least another year before I could even dream of starting the next arc, which will probably be the Kalos arc according to my current plan.
In any case, hope you enjoy the chapter thus far, and thanks for sticking around.
