If there was a particular kind of case that Nemuri Kayama, more commonly known as the R-rated Hero: Midnight, hated (okay, maybe not hated but definitely disliked), it was any kind of case involving children. The sad fact that a decent portion of cases were cases of child abandonment due to the parents or guardians of the child being unable to handle the needs of the child brought on by the child's Quirk, particularly Animal-classed Mutant-Quirks, only ended up upsetting the heroine further. She was often requested to participate in the various cases involving Animal-classed Mutants for multiple reasons. The primary one being that her Quirk, Somnambulist, was perfect in the majority of cases for knocking out the Mutant if necessary, with very few exceptions (the few exceptions being children who's Quirks allowed them to produce a gas with similar properties as Somnambulist, granting them resistance, but not immunity, to the gas produced by Nemuri's Quirk), but also the fact that she was surprisingly good with children despite what her persona of Midnight make her seem, being able to make them calm down (sometimes without the use of Somnambulist).
The most recent case Nemuri had been called in for revolved around the sightings of a figure that had been described as being demi-human based on witness accounts, which was the only thing to go on as the figure had mostly been spotted either near the edge of Endoru Forest or the sky too high above the forest to properly see any details, making it very likely that the figure was a holder of an Animal-classed Mutant-Quirk, as Demi-human was a rather common, if generalized and relatively vague, description of an Animal-classed Mutant, one with an aerial animal as the basis of their mutation, based on the witness accounts of seeing it in the sky. A very select few witness accounts had also reported seeing the back of the figure doing what appeared to be eating recently dead animals, quite savagely, suggesting that whatever animal their Quirk gave them the traits of was a carnivore (and most likely a predator), something that meant bringing some relatively unprocessed meat-based food along might be a good idea for either drawing out the Mutant or as bait if necessary.
A pair of fellow Heroes that had become regular colleagues of Nemuri whenever she was called in for a case involving a child with an Animal-classed Mutant-Quirk that had been abandoned or run away from home were Shino Sosaki, a.k.a Mandalay, and Tomoko Shiretoko, a.k.a Ragdoll, of the Hero-team known as the Wild, Wild Pussycats. The two cat-themed Heroines' Quirks made them useful in the kind of cases that three Heroines were usually called in for at the same time. Thanks to how often the three worked together and considering that the cases they were usually called in for together involved children, Shino and Tomoko knew that there was more to Nemuri and that her Midnight-persona was for the most part just an act. While Nemuri did genuinely enjoy the stuff she mentioned as Midnight, she had more control over her urges than what her act of having next to no filter implied.
As the three Heroines approached the edge of Endoru Forest in a van, the Heroes grabbed some gear that usually wasn't a part of their sets of gear, provided by mission control. An earpiece in Midnight's case and a pair of gas masks in Mandalay and Ragdoll's cases. With the extra gear secured on their person (and in her ear in Midnight's case), the van came to a stop by the roadside near the beginning of Endoru Forest.
"We're here. I'll be remaining here with the van. Happy hunting you three." Exclaimed the driver, who earned themselves an annoyed roll of the eyes from their passengers as said passengers exited the vehicle.
"Would it hurt them to use a different phrasing?" Asked Midnight her colleagues as the Heroines called in for the case entered the Endoru Forest.
"Like you're one to talk." Deadpanned Ragdoll at the dark purple haired woman.
"Hey! The innuendos and such things are mostly just an act! It's my shtick."
"True, but it's rather refreshing to not hear you spewing such things constantly." Replied Mandalay with a slight shrug.
"What can I say? I know when it is and isn't time to let loose on the filter."
"I'm still surprised that you of all people managed to get an adoption license."
"What's wrong, Ragdoll? Jealous?"
"No…"
"…"
"…"
"…"
"…"
"Okay, maybe a little."
"Anyway, we shouldn't be too far away from the caves where our little quarry should be using as their nest or something. I can pick up a fourth human mind in this forest." Replied Mandalay. Unknown to the Heroines, their quarry was closer than what they thought, silently following them through the trees.
