Millicent was done being ignored. Her family ignored her, she wasn't their heir, she was just a daughter who'd had the misfortune of being born. Her housemates ignored her, she wasn't the smartest, the prettiest, she wasn't the most anything. She just kind of blended into the background, a nameless thug of a girl.

She was done being ignored! This is why she was now walking towards Greenhouse Five, knowing Hannah's class was about to exit. Hannah stepped out, her left cheek smeared with dirt. Millicent fought the smile that threatened to spread across her face.

"You can't ignore me forever," she stated, her chest heaving as she looked at Hannah. "I know I messed up, know I should have said something, but…"

"You were afraid," Hannah finished. "I was too. We both come from worlds where they expect things from us, marry a good wizard, have a family. I'm part of the stupid twenty-eight for Merlin's sake," she said, shifting her back to the other shoulder. She curled her fingers around the brown leather strap, something Millicent knew she did when she was nervous.

"You're afraid too?" Millicent asked, her blue eyes wide. She hadn't thought Hannah might feel the same way. For some reason, she'd thought she had a monopoly on being afraid. It was a stupid thought, and one Millicent knew was only because she wasn't used to thinking about how other people thought. It was one of the things she was working on about herself.

"I was, but then I realized something, Mils, I realized that we might not survive this war and I do not want to die with regret, with knowing fear kept me from doing what I truly wanted," Hannah stated, pressing her lips against Millicent's. Millicent's tongue traced Hannah's lips, tasting her tropical lip gloss. She was done being ignored. She was done being afraid, and apparently, so was Hannah.
