Lily's P.O.V

The whole trip for supplies was pretty quiet. Everyone seemed afraid and awkward. Maybe it was good because we needed to make sure nobody could spot us, whether it be a zombie or an unfriendly human, but it didn't feel good.

"Lily?" I got a nudge to my ribs from the little brother of Lawrence next to me. I hummed in response to signal him to continue talking. "Am I even wanted here?"

I looked over at him shocked, almost offended. "Of course you are! Where did this come from?" I responded, though I still tried to keep quiet so as to not alert anyone, including Eugene and Lawrence.

"I can't help but feel like I'm being a burden-"

"Quiet," A stern voice spoke to the two of us. "You can talk about whatever topics you're discussing later, but not while we're out."

"Lawrence, calm down," Eugene defended us. "Don't have to be a jerk right now."

It went quiet again.

Until a growl was heard.

"Everyone, hide!" Lawrence whispered in a rush to the group. We ran to a near alleyway, away from the source of the noise. "Stay quiet."

So we did. Silent. This time it wasn't uncomfortable though. It felt scary. Maybe it was because we were hiding from zombies. The more we waited the more it sounded like we heard around.

"Follow me," Lawrence directed in a whisper once again, taking lead down the alleyway. "I think I know a place that will be safer and have some supplies for us."

I didn't really know how he knew this area so well, but maybe he was just used to it after the many months of going on supply runs. He just seemed so smart, having everything mapped out. Like he had this mapped out for years, not just months.

We walked into the building he directed us to, quietly and safely. He was right. A place that seemed safe and also had supplies. Sure, it seemed as if some others had found the area first and went through it, but there was still enough left over that could possibly help us out.

"Just grab what you might think is needed, don't over pack," Lawrence spoke up, his voice a little higher in volume but still quiet.

We all nodded in response and did what we had to do.

I chose to stay close to Matthew. Both of us had some awkward encounters with the two that were with us, we still had more to discuss with each other.

Matthew seemed deep in thought. Everything he grabbed, he grabbed so gently and slowly. He was physically here, but mentally somewhere else. What was going on in his head?

"Matthew?" I spoke up finally as we walked towards the front of the building we were in, near large windows and a glass door. "Are you okay?"

"Hm?" He snapped out of whatever trance he was in. "Oh, yeah, great." He muttered.

"What's wrong?"

"Thinking. That's all."

It was only about maybe a minute later after that small talk, but it felt like hours. Hours of Matthew just passing glances towards me every couple of seconds. First, it was my face, but then it was my weapons.

"Matthew-"

"Everyone, quiet!" Lawrence shouted quietly at us. Matthew and I quickly whipped our heads towards the windows we stood next to, to see a horde of zombies going down the street next to us. Most likely the ones we ran from earlier.

"Get away from the-"

But before Eugene could even finish his start of a command, Matthew dashed to grab an axe that was hung by my side, to full force smash it against the glass window. It shattered quickly and loudly, causing me to let out a small scream of Matthew's name by instinct.

"What the hell are you doing!" Lawrence's voice raised as he began to run towards us, obviously knowing our cover was blown anyway.

I was incredibly blown away. The horde of zombies immediately turned their attention to us almost making a run for the noise they just heard.

Lawrence immediately went to grab Matthew's wrist to pull him back from the shattered glass that surrounded the area, but before he could reach him, Matthew jumped out of the new hole he had created.

"Louis!"

"Matthew!"

Lawrence and I screamed in unison.

Louis?

As soon as it set in that Matthew was going head first to the herd, my immediate instinct was to go and follow but there was a grip on my wrist that stopped me from going.

"Don't!"

"Eugene, let go!" I turned to face the blonde, knowing his voice in an instant. "I have to get him!"

"You'll die!" He panicked, his grip on my wrist tightening up.

"But-"

"No but's Lily!" Eugene interrupted me. "I," He began to stutter as tears started to form in his eyes at a rapid speed. "I can't lose you too." His voice cracked with his words.

When I turned back to face what was happening, Matthew had approached the zombies with my axe, preparing for what seemed like a battle he wanted to start. Then looking at Lawrence I could see fear and intense conflict in his eyes.

"Lawrence, what do we do?" I asked, my voice beginning to stutter itself. Was I going to cry? Was I that worried and scared? I was. Matthew was my friend.

"Fuck it," Lawrence swore without even glancing at me, jumping out the shattered window and full speed running towards his younger brother.

"Lawrence!" Me and Eugene this time screamed in unison.

Eugene let go of my wrist, his eyes widened and his face filled with pure terror and panic. "Fuck!" He swore, soon throwing a random can on the shelf across the room we were in. "Go!" He then demanded, taking after the brothers and jumping right out the window.

"Shit!" I muttered under my breath, grabbing another axe I had with me prepared for whatever Matthew was trying to start.

I jumped right after, joining the crowd of boys and zombies fighting for their lives and for the life of a simple kid who was just wanting the approval of his big brother.
