Thanks for the favorites and follows, greatly appreciate it. As you can see some of the text in the Robb POV, I got from the ASOIAF wiki from Roose's page; the idea was when I was writing this chapter and the quotes seem to fit in well. I want to reiterate, that I am not claiming "ownership" over what I wrote since I burrow this story/characters from George RR Martin.
Disclaimer: I DO NOT own any of these character names or the story itself. George RR Martin owns all of these characters from his story ASOIAF.
Chapter 9: Laid out Plans
295 AC – 2 days till the full moon
Eddard POV
"Will the cabin be completed on schedule Jory?" Eddard asked. "With the progress we made, I believe we will complete construction within a day" I nodded at his response as my eyes turned to the project. After the revelation behind Sansa's "disease", the topic of Sansa's next transformation came into place. His daughter was terrified as she was afraid of the consequences that arrived with it. Thus came the discussion of where should Sansa should stay, during her nights on the full moon.
Robb had first suggested that they let Sansa roam in the Wolfswood. Eddard was against the idea because she could get lost in the woods and with wolfswood men, living there could get themselves maimed. They needed a secure location for Sansa, which Arya commented on getting a cage for her. Jon would be the one that they build a cabin for Sansa. It was decided that a wooden cabin be built on the outskirts of the Wolfswood.
Eddard would then have his men gather the necessary materials and personnel in constructing this cabin built with both ironwoods and sentinels. As I made my way down the rampart, I caught sight of Roose Bolton approaching me. "Lord Stark could I have a word with you?" he said in hushed tones. I nodded as we walked along in the courtyard.
"How has your family taken with the truth, Lord Stark?" Roose asked as he observed my reaction, "After the initial shock, everyone was able to accept it. My wife has conflicting feelings about it".
"Let me guess, she still believes there to be a cure," Roose said as he stopped to face Eddard. "Surely if werewolves had existed for such a time, especially on how you knew quite a lot, especially the wolf who was part of your lineage". Roose gave me a cold look of silence before continuing, "I will admit I learned about this past a while back when educating my son Domeric, the 'beast' was the brother to the Lord of the Dreadfort at the time. He perished before he could continue his line".
"Are you certain, if this past ancestor of yours never had children, how was it possible for Sansa to be attacked that time?" Roose raised his eyebrow, "Surely you jest; your daughter was cursed once the creature closed its jaws on her. While my ancestor may have not fathered children, he would have infected others who carried on the curse for a century".
"If I may ask, where did your daughter get attacked at?" Roose asked calmly.
"She was attacked in the crypts here," I answered back, Roose eyed me suspiciously "She was attacked here, in these walls", I nodded as he looked off in the distance thoughtfully. "Did you manage to catch the beast?"
"No, we are only able to pelt it with a few arrows before fleeing back into the darkness. I had men search the entire crypts but, they came up empty" I replied.
"Perhaps you weren't looking in the right spot or the right people" Roose answered smoothly, "What would you have done then?" he stared at me with those white moon eyes, "As I once said 'A naked man has few secrets, but a flayed man's got none".
My jawline tightened at Roose's statement, "Your advice is sound, however, torture should be the last resort until all other options have been exhausted" I began to contemplate for a moment "If I may ask since you and your men will be here for a least another week, could you have your men search Winterfell if they are still here" before Lord Bolton walked away I added, "No, torturing".
He nodded as he walked away while giving orders to his men. Hopeful, more answers could be provided if they find the last piece of the mystery. Eddard breathed a deep breath as watched the horizon, hoping the future for House Stark brings better fortune.
Robb POV
The sounds of swords clashing rang through the courtyard as both Robb and Jon sparred with one another. Robb was getting pretty tired, he had stronger blows than Jon but, he had superior speed and parrying to counter his moves. This was one of the few times when both of them were at a standstill. They were going on this for an hour now and neither had gained an advantage over the other.
"Giving up yet?" Jon called out, "Oh, I'm just warming up" as we went at each other again. I would then realize that we had drawn a crowd, by watching us fight. Out of the corner of my eye, I caught Lord Bolton being in the crowd. He was staring at me like a hawk; my concentration was off Jon, giving him the chance he needed. I went back to concentrating on the fight, unfortunately, I was completely exhausted and losing my grip on my sword. Jon managed to disarm me and knocked me off my feet.
"Well fought, Stark," Jon said as he held out his hand, I smiled as I took his hand. We made our way through the crowd, heading to the kitchens. We made small banter about complementing each other's skills. As we got there we saw Arya sneaking carefully out of the kitchens, she seemed to be carrying a bunch of berry tarts in her arms. We both gave each other a knowing look, as we quietly followed Arya. Jon would then slap both his hands right behind Arya, "ARYA!"
Arya gave a startled jump, dropping the berry tarts onto the ground. She turned around angrily staring us down, looking as if she would kill us. We tried to regain our composure, but we completely broke down laughing at the situation. "JON, ROBB, why did you do that?!"
"I thought it would be funny dear sister," Jon sputtered out; they were trying to retain their composure as Arya continued to berate them with a growing smile on her smile. As our laughter died down, I caught Lord Bolton walking toward us. "Lord Bolton" I replied politely.
Both Arya and Jon had both calmed down; they both turned their attention to Lord Bolton. "Oh, uh let me introduce you to my…" "No, need to give me introductions I know who you are. Robb Stark the first born, you have your mother looks just like Hoster Tully".
He then turned his attention to Arya, "Arya Stark, or should I call you 'Arya Underfoot' as what the soldiers call you?" "Why do they call you The Leech Lord?"
"Arya!" Jon yelled at Arya's question. I held my breath as I watched Lord Bolton's reaction, fearing the worst considering my father never trusted Lord Bolton, with his whispery voice and his pale, pale eyes. After what felt like an eternity, Lord Bolton gave a ghost of a smile "You see Arya, frequent leeching is the secret of a long life. A man must purge himself of blood".
"Lastly, Jon Snow, the bastard of Winterfell", I saw Jon grimace at the word, "I meant no offense, I understand your position is quite hated by Lady Stark but, perhaps your skills could be of use elsewhere".
"What is that supposed to mean?" I replied, "I saw both of you spar in the courtyard, you are quite skilled for your age Jon. Even a bastard can earn fame, and glory and become infamous for their deeds" "Thank you, Lord Bolton I take your words into consideration" Jon cautiously replied.
Lord Bolton nodded and walked away disappearing into the shadows. "Gods, that man gives me the shivers" I replied, "Arya, what were you thinking of when you called him The Leech Lord", "What, I heard it from some of the guards" "I swear your mouth is going get you into trouble one day".
"Come on you two, let's see how Sansa is doing", as we walked down the hall chatting away. As I watched Jon and Arya walk in front of me, I thought back on Lord Bolton's words; Jon would never leave us, right? I sighed knowing that sooner or later mother will have Jon kicked out if she had her way; I hoped Jon would stay cause his family needed him more than he knew.
Notes:
Read and Review. If you can give me advice on how to improve the story/tips. I think considering how I have been laying out the timeline, you may know what's coming next time. The next chapter will come out next week, I'm actually getting a schedule on how I upload these chapters.
