I don't own Naruto, Kishimoto does.
Chapter 4: Goodbye, Hello, and Goodbye Twice More
December 27
In the 2½ months since Naruto's birthday, he had gotten a lot closer to his surrogate family. He and Shisui spent almost every day together, and in fact, Shisui had taken up Kushina's offer to come live with them. He had also gotten closer to Kakashi, Itachi, and Anko. He was no longer deathly afraid of his now big sister figure, but she was still able to creep him out sometimes. Because of Kakashi's ANBU duties, he was the person he got to see the least, but whenever he did he would always help him in his reflex and speed training. Kushina, Shisui, and Itachi had started him on basic knowledge about the shinobi world, and he had gotten some helpful knowledge for the academy.
…
Naruto was currently standing in the courtyard of his compound. He was in a black and white kimono and had on wooden sandals. Next to him stood Shisui. He was in a blue and white kimono and he had his Konoha headband around his neck.
"Ne, Shisui-nii, what is this about again?" asked the curious redhead.
Shisui chuckled at his little brother, "Kumogakure has come to sign a peace treaty with Konoha. After this we will be allied with 2 of the great villages," he explained.
"Oh," said Naruto.
Kushina walked out of the door in her jonin uniform. She had her katana strapped to her back. She walked up to the boys and smiled.
"Alright! Ready?" she asked, smiling.
Naruto smiled at his mom and nodded. Shisui frowned at the smile but nodded anyway. He felt that she was hiding something, but didn't question her about it. In reality, Kushina really was worried. It was Kumo who had kidnapped her when she was a genin. They wanted her for her chakra. The 5 Great Nations were declining in power, and Kumo, wanting an ace, had decided to take her so they could have the power of the Uzumaki Clan. Fortunately for her, Minato had caught on her trail and saved her from the Kumo shinobi on the borders of Hi no Kuni. This is what would eventually start the Third Great Shinobi War, and what would get Minato and Kushina together. Kushina was afraid that history would repeat itself, and she was afraid it would happen more than once tonight.
…
The family walked towards where the parade was being held with Naruto being carried on Shisui's shoulders and Shisui to Kushina right per usual. It was blatantly obvious that this was a big event and it seemed that the entirety of Konoha was in front of the Hokage mansion. When the three got to the crowd, they noticed it was split down the middle with the Kumogakure shinobi waving and smiling at the civilians and shinobi on the sides. Naruto and Shisui watched the parade with interest, with Naruto's mouth being dropped open in curiosity. However Kushina stood stiff. No matter what happened today, good or bad, she would most likely never trust Kumo. The Third Raikage was a power-hungry man, even having his own "son" become a jinchuriki for power. She had her left arm resting on the hilt of her sword. The watched the Kumo ambassador and for a split second she thought she saw him peering at Naruto. She had learned to trust her gut, and her gut was never wrong. But this time, she hesitated. Why? She had just gone over so she wouldn't let her guard down, but right now, will she really let this go? She looked over to her son and Shisui. Naruto was smiling and pointing over the crowd, and Shisui was smiling at the younger boy. She smiled at her sons, she knew now. She wanted them to be happy. She dropped her left hand, and watched the parade with her family.
…
"That sure was fun, right Kasan?" asked Naruto as the family walked back to their home.
"Yes, Naruto, I suppose it was," said Kushina, smiling at her son.
"How 'bout you, niisan?" asked Naruto.
"I think it's great that Kumo and Konoha have settled their disagreements and have decided to align. I feel that peace in this world is finally coming to fruition, even if it may take a while longer," said Shisui, smiling to himself.
Kushina felt a chill go up her back, as if they were being followed, however when she looked to a nearby roof all she saw were patrolling ANBU. They weren't watching, but more watching over the village while Kumo was still inside the walls. However, she couldn't shake the same feeling she got at the parade.
"Ow!" came from Naruto, as he slapped his arm.
"What's up, Naru?" asked Shisui.
"It's nothing, just a mosquito," said the redhead.
The two jonin nodded and began to walk again.
…
"Well, finally home," said Kushina, sighing in content as the family made it to the gate. She pricked herself with a kunai, and slashed her blood across the gate. Glowing golden fr a second, it dissolved into the wood. Kushina pushed open the gate and led the boys inside.
Making it inside the house, Shisui put Naruto on the ground who rubbed his eyes in tiredness.
"What, tired? I did all the work," chuckled Shisui, before yawning.
"I think we all need sleep," said Kushina, as she went to her bedroom, "Goodnight boys," she finished.
"Night, Kasan/Kushina-san," said the two boys before heading to their separate rooms and shutting down for the night.
Naruto lied down in his bed, slowly giving into the darkness that awaited him, but before he did he heard a creek. He pondered what it was but eventually let it go as he drifted off into dreamland. If the youngboy had peered around his room, he would've seen that silhouette of a figure in his room.
…
ANBU were frantically searching around Konoha for two kids who had been taken tonight. Unfortunately, none had been found yet. Kakashi led his team of ANBU consisting of Tenzo, Itachi, Uzuki Yugao, and Gekko Hayate. They were currently searching for one of the missing kids, and Kakashi was already having a panic attack. For the kid his team was searching for was none other than one Uzumaki Naruto. Itachi was currently attempting to calm his captain down, but it was no use.
"Inu-san!" came a voice to the left of Team Ro.
The ANBU squad stopped as they heard another ANBU squad calling to them.
"What is it, Ryu-san?" asked Kakashi.
"The Hyuga heiress was saved by Hiashi-sama mere minutes ago. As lead search team for Uzumaki-san, we came to inform you that all squads except for one dedicated to looking for Miss Hyuga-sama will be out searching for the boy," said Ryu.
"Good," said Kakashi.
The two ANBU captains nodded to each other as they rejoined their teams and went their separate ways, searching for Naruto.
…
"KUSHINA-SAN!" yelled Shisui as he barged into Kushina's room, waking her.
"Huh-what? Shisui, what is it?" she asked as she saw the look of fear across Shisui's face.
"ANBU alarms are going off, Kumo stole someone, and N-N-" said Shisui, unable to finish the sentence.
"Shi-Shisui, what is it?" asked Kushina, fearing the worst.
"It's Naruto, Kushina-san! He's missing!" he screamed.
Kushina's eyes widened in fear as her worst fears became true, 'No. No. Not Naruto,' she thought. She hopped out of bed and almost gave Shisui a nosebleed in doing so. Shisui closed the door to go put on his Shinobi gear while Kushina prepared to save Naruto. Minutes later, the two were rushing into the night to go find their son and little brother.
…
Meanwhile, in the outskirts of Konoha
"You got the kid?" asked one Kumo shinobi to the other.
"Sure do," said the second nin as he lifted up the bag with Naruto inside.
"Nice, at least we got one," said the first Kumo-nin.
"What do you mean?"
"Captain was killed by the Hyuga head after being caught in the act. There's a whole ANBU squad looking after the Hyuga heiress now because of it."
"Shit. Well, we can't stay around anymore, let's get going," said the second. He rushed past his teammate with a struggling Naruto on his back.
"AAAUUURRRGGGHHH!" yelled the first Kumo-nin.
As the second Kumo-nin turned his face turned to one of horror as he saw his friend being constricted by a bladed whip. He only saw this for a second until his friend was torn in half by the whip. As the body fell he saw the enraged figure of Uzumaki Kushina behind him. The whip retracted back into its base form, becoming a katana once more.
"You, you Kumo are the lowest of scum. You fail to kidnap, so you go after my son. You Kumo shinobi are pitiful," she growled.
She lunged at the Kumo-nin and extended her blade. Enhancing it with wind chakra, she sliced the Kumo shinobi's head clean off of his shoulders. The bag fell to the ground, with Naruto still attempting to get out. Kushina untied the bag and only had a second to see her son struggling before he glomped her in a hug, crying into her shoulder.
"Shh, shh. Mommy's here," said Kushina.
They heard footsteps land near them and Kushina looked up. She saw Team Ro, Anko, and Shisui standing there, and panting.
"Kakashi, you and the rest of your team report to Sarutobi that I rescued Naruto. Anko, Shisui, come with me, we're not letting Naruto out of our sights," explained Kushina, authoritatively.
Everyone nodded and Team Ro and the rest of the Uzumaki family were off.
…
KNOCK, KNOCK, KNOCK!
"I'm coming," yelled Kushina, as she rushed to answer the door.
Opening she saw an ANBU kneeling down. Noticing Kushina had heeded his call, the ANBU stood up and relayed his message.
"You are to be at the meeting chamber in 1 hour," he said.
"Very well," sighed Kushina. She had a feeling what this was about. Rushing back to her room, she put on her Jonin outfit and headed to Hokage tower.
…
Kushina's eyes widened at the statement and Mitokado Homura.
"W-what?!" she exclaimed.
"It's for the good of the village that you and Hyuga Hiashi give your bodies to Kumo," he restated.
"B-but why?" asked Kushina.
"To avoid war with them and any allies they may have," said Utatane Kohora, "You and Hiashi-sama killed three Kumo shinobis, and now they want your bodies turned over to them in compensation for it, or war."
Kushina looked over towards Hiruzen, to her disappointment, and had a somber look on his face. She knew it was the right thing to do, but she didn't want to accept it. She had Naruto. She wouldn't be able to live with herself if she left him on his own. Suddenly, something happened that nobody expected.
"I shall go in Hiashi's place," stated Hyuga Hizashi, Hiashi's twin brother, and head of the Hyuga Clan side branch.
"WHAT!" screamed Hiashi, "ABSOLUTELY NOT- arrgh!"
Hizashi disabled Hiashi before he could go any further.
"W-why, Hizashi? Why give your life for the main branch? You have Neji," said Hiashi.
"Do not misunderstand me brother. I am doing this for the main branch, as I hate the separation of our clan. I do this for my brother. Just once, I want to choose my own path, and steer from the path destiny has chosen for me. Goodbye, brother," said Hizashi as he walked to his death.
Kushina looked at everything with tears in her eyes. Both Hiashi and Hizashi were friends, and she hated to see both of their lives end up like this. However, she still had a choice of her own. Give herself up, or war will come to fruition. Suddenly, something Shisui said came to her mind.
'I feel that peace in this world is finally coming to fruition, even if it may take a while longer'
Kushina sat there in deep thought. The counselors were looking at her intensity, waiting for her answer.
'Shisui, thank you. Hizashi, thank you. I know what to do. Naruto, I hope one day you will forgive me,' she thought.
She looked at the council and nodded. Everybody looked to one another and nodded. Kushina stood up and walked to Hiruzen and bowed, she knew what she was doing to Naruto was wrong, but the good of the village always came first, no matter how much it hurt.
…
KNOCK, KNOCK, KNOCK!
"Coming!" yelled Shisui as stumbled to the door.
He answered the door only to see a tear-stained Anko, Kakashi, and somber-looking Itachi.
"What happened?" asked Shisui, getting a sinking feeling in his stomach.
Kakashi held up a note. Shisui began to feel even worse. As he read the note he began to cry like he never had before. He sunk to the ground and threw the paper aside.
"KUSO!" he yelled.
The three others looked at each other sadly and nodded.
"Shisui," said Itachi, "Naruto needs to know, "and right now, he'll need us all."
"GOD DAMMIT I KNOW HE NEEDS TO KNOW!" cried Shisui, "BUT IT'LL HURT SO MUCH TO TELL HIM!"
"Tell me what?" asked Naruto as he walked out.
Shisui faced Naruto with a tear-stained face and took the note in his hand. Naruto walked up to his brother and began to read. By the end of it, he was crying even worse than Shisui and was on the verge of passing out from hyperventilating. He dropped the note, not wanting to reread it time and time again. Once was enough, and the pain seemed to deepen everytime.
My dearest Naruto and closest friends,
These are my last words so listen carefully. By saving Naruto, I signed a deal with death. Kumo wants compensation for the ninja I killed. I know this is not fair considering the circumstances, but unless we want war, I had to do this for the good of the village. This was one of the hardest choices of my life, and I didn't choose what I chose out of spite for any of you, but rather love. Naruto, I leave the Hebi no Muchi in your hands. Anko, I leave the Summoning Scroll with you, and I know you will let Naruto sign it when the time is right. Itachi, I leave you my weasel ANBU mask. Please carry on my ANBU legacy well. Kakashi, I leave Minato's techniques with you. Please help Naruto when the time comes. Lastly, Shisui, I leave you to protect and live with Naruto always, until your dying breath. Everybody, make me proud.
Lots of Love,
Uzumaki Kushina, Red Death of Konoha
…
6 months after Kushina's Death
The past 6 months were hard on everyone. However, it was hardest on Naruto. He kept himself cooped up all day, and only came out for dinner. He never trained, and all the work he had put in in the two months before Kushina's death was lost. Shisui didn't want to push Naruto, but he wanted to try and help his little brother. However, Naruto would often cry or lash out. Shisui would always comfort after everything, and the days would repeat. The Ichiraku's came by to deliver food to their favorite customer and were always worried for him, as they never saw him around anymore.
1½ years after Kushina's Death
Naruto was slowly coming out of his shell, however he still never went outside. He would get out of his room, but most of that time was spent in the library. Shisui was still attempting to train him, and was pushing him more and more every passing day. Itachi and Kakashi would come by weekly, as ANBU duties wouldn't allow any more than that. Anko would come around about 4 days a week, and Naruto would get to meet several snakes that Anko had command of. Slowly but surely, the shell he had put up was slowly cracking and he was opening up once again.
2½ years after Kushina's Death
Naruto was finally open around the people he knew again, and he would go outside. He was severely pale from all the time spent indoors, and he knew it wasn't good for him. He had finally gotten back to training and Shisui was teaching him what he had wanted to know since he met him.
"Alright Naruto, channel chakra to your feet and move as quick as you can," stated Shisui.
"H-hai," responded Naruto.
He built up chakra in his legs, and vitalising his entire body, he moved across the training ground in the blink of an eye.
Shisui smiled at his little brother. However, something seemed off.
"Naruto, can you do that again?" he asked, trying to catch what he may have missed.
"H-hai," said Naruto. Repeating what had done, he focused the chakra to where he needed to and in a flash was across the field.
Shisui's eyes widened at what he saw, 'He did that unconsciously while I'm still having problems with it!'
"H-how was th-that Sh-Shisui-nii?" asked the redhead.
"Good Naruto, and I don't know how, but you continue to surprise me," said Shisui.
"W-what do y-you mean?"
"What I mean Naruto, is that you unconsciously did a lightning shunshin. Not only that, but unlike the normal blue color, your lightning is purple. That goes to show how strong your affinity for it is," explained the ex-Uchiha.
"R-really!" exclaimed Naruto, "Cool!"
"I'm proud of you kid," said Shisui as he placed a hand on Naruto's hair.
…
"You ready?" asked Shisui.
"Ya, I think," said Naruto from atop Shisui's shoulders.
It was the first day of the academy, and Naruto was already feeling nervous. He had on a black long-sleeved shirt with a high collar that covered up to his mouth. He had on dark purple cargo shorts that went just past his knee. He had on a leather eyepatch, as his old one had worn down some time ago.
The brothers walked up to the Academy to find a pleasant sight. There was Itachi, holding the hand of what must've been his little brother. Naruto smiled and waved to the 13-year-old who waved back.
"HEY ITACHI!" yelled Naruto.
"Hello, Naruto-kun, how are you?" asked Itachi.
"Good, can't wait for the academy," said Naruto.
Naruto looked down and waved to Itachi's little brother. The boy looked at Naruto with disinterest and turned his head away.
Itachi sighed at his brother's antics, "I apologize for Sasuke, he's not the best with people."
Suddenly everybody's heads turned towards the sound of yelling.
"HINATA-SAMA! GET BACK HERE!" screamed a Hyuga.
The girl named Hinata had a paint brush in one hand and a bucket in the other and was currently painting the entire Academy a bright red in color.
"Hehehe!" laughed the Hyuga heiress as she stuck her tongue out a blew them a raspberry, "PPPTTTRRR!"
Everyone else watching the exchange laughed, including the normally quiet Naruto.
Finally, the bell was rung, signifying the new year at the Konoha Academy.
…
Umino Iruka looked at his class. He had 9 clan heirs, which included Uzumaki Naruto, the jinchuriki of the Kyubi no Kitsune, and Hyuga Hinata, possibly the worst prankster to ever hit Konoha.
"Good morning class! We are about to take attendance. I want you to tell me something about yourself, your likes, your dislikes, and your dreams for the future."
"Sensei! Can you give us an example?" said a pink-haired girl with a big forehead
"Alright, my name is Umino Iruka, I like teaching, training, and Konoha. I dislike loud classes, murderers, and traitors, dreams for the future? I guess to make you all into amazing shinobi," said Iruka, "Alright, there's your example. Now, to attendance. Aburame Shino?"
A tall boy with glasses, big hair, and in a trench coat stood up.
"Aburame Shino. I like bugs. I dislike anyone who mistreats bugs. My dream is to be a good clan head," said Shino.
"Akamichi Choji?"
A big boned boy in a green jacket, blue pants, and swirls on his cheeks stood up.
"Hi -munch- my name is Akamichi Choji. I like -munch- food, my friends, and my family -munch-. I dislike people who call me fat," Choji said with sudden seriousness. "And my dream is to be a good clan and make my family proud."
"Good. Haruno Sakura?"
The same pink haired girl in a red dress stood up.
"Hi. I'm Haruno Sakura I like my family and-"
She looks at Sasuke and squeals.
"I dislike Ino-pig, traitors and perverts. And my dream is-"
Looks over to Sasuke and squeals louder.
"Good. Hyuga Hinata."
Hinata stood up. She was wearing a yellow and white jacket with blue pants."
"Hey! My name is Hyuga Hinata! I like pranks, ramen, and my family! I dislike traitors and people who disrespect kunoichi! My dream is to eventually become a good clan head and abolish the caged bird seal," she said.
"Good. Inuzuka Kiba?"
A brash-looking boy with a black hoodie, gray pants, and red fang marks on his cheeks stood up.
"My name Is Inuzuka Kiba! I like my pack, my clan's dogs, and loyalty. I dislike anyone who makes fun of my pack or breaks my trust. My dream is to be a good clan head and the greatest hunter-nin." Kiba said.
"Good. Nara Shikamaru."
A boy with a pineapple haircut and a lazy look on his face stood up.
"*yawn* toublesome. I like watching clouds, sleeping, and playing shogi. I dislike anything troublesome or tedious. My dream is to be a good clan head and have an average family."
"Good. Uchiha Sasuke."
At this many girls squealed and turned to him with hearts in their eyes.
"My name is Uchiha Sasuke. I like my family. I dislike traitors. My dream is to surpass my brother."
"Good. Uzumaki Naruto?"
"H-hello, M-my name is U-Uzumaki N-Naruto. I-I like my family, t-training, a-and ramen. I dislike t-traitors and p-people who h-hate others f-for n-no reason. M-my d-dream is to make my family proud." Naruto exclaimed.
The class just stared.
"Alright. Yamanaka Ino?"
"Hi, I'm Yamanaka Ino. I like flowers, my family, and-"
Looks over to Sasuke and squeals.
"I dislike perverts and forehead, and my dream is-"
Looks at Sasuke and squeals louder.
After everyone, including the canon fodder's, names were called. Iruka just sighed at his class. Every girl except for Hinata seemed to be an Uchiha Sasuke fangirl. Naruto wasn't what he expected. He expected a brash and wild kid, almost similar to Hinata. Except he seemed shy, timid, and enclosed.
'This is going to be a long four years,' thought Iruka.
…
"So how was your first day at the Academy?" asked Shisui.
"It was good. We got to show off the jutsus we knew and I showed off my lightning shunshin," explained Naruto.
"What was everyone's reaction?" asked Shisui.
"Well, the boys just stared and every girl besides the Hyuga heiress booed me, saying that Sasuke will always be better or Sasuke should know that not you. There was this one pink-haired girl and she was the wildest of them all," explained Naruto, slightly downcast.
"Sorry about that Naru, but remember, only people who matter to you opinion's matter," said Shisui."
"Thanks niisan."
6 months later
Naruto's next six months went by like a breeze. He spent all his time at the Academy, and when he wasn't there he was either training or out. Whenever he was going outside, he would be accompanied by Shisui or any of his other family. But the Academy wasn't so lonely, as Naruto had made a friend during his time there.
Flashback 4 months ago
Naruto walked into his classroom the same way he would do everyday, walk up to the door, and contemplate if he should ask someone if he could sit next to him. He peeked his head around the corner and saw all the friend groups talking and laughing with one another. He frowned, realizing they probably wouldn't want to talk to him. He walked up to his seat in the back of the classroom and put his head down onto the desk. Closing his eyes, he attempted to fall asleep.
"Hey, uhm… is anyone sitting here?" asked a voice.
Naruto looked up and saw his classmate Hyuga Hinata grinning at him and scratching the back of her neck sheepishly.
"Uhm, n-no. W-why?" asked Naruto.
"Well, uh, I noticed that you're not really sitting next to anybody, and I don't really know if you have any friends so I was wondering if I could sit next to you cause I don't really have any friends either," asked Hinata.
Naruto began to twiddle his fingers in a nervous fashion and nodded.
Hinata smiled, "COOL!" She sat down next to the nervous redhead and faced him, "So, what's your name?"
"U-Uzumaki N-N-Naruto," said Naruto, beginning to blush, "W-what's y-yours?"
Hinata slung her arm around Naruto, "Hyuga Hinata. Remember that Naruto because I think we're gonna be the best of friends!" she said giving the blushing boy a thumbs up.
Flashback End
Naruto walked beside Shisui to the Academy playing with a kunai he had gotten for his last birthday. Suddenly Shisui stopped in his tracks, making Naruto stop as well.
"Man, not again," muttered Shisui.
Naruto looked to where Shisui was only to find graffiti on every wall of the road leading towards the Hokage tower.
"Naru, that friend of yours really has the ANBU working," said Shisui.
For his part, Naruto just chuckled.
Shisui sighed, "Naruto, can you shunshin to the Academy? I need to go catch a wild Hyuga," commented Shisui.
"H-hai, niisan," responded Shisui.
Shisui teleported away to go and catch Hinata as Naruto shunshined to the Academy.
…
Naruto made it to his classroom before everyone, leaving him alone in the room. Putting his head down, he attempted to sleep to pass the time. However, a knock on the window across from where he sat. Looking to see who it was, he was surprised to see Hinata waving to him.
'She already got away from the ANBU?' he thought.
Walking over to the window to open it he stared at Hinata in wonderment, "I-I d-don't e-even want t-to kn-know how you g-got a-away," he said.
For her part Hinata just flashed a toothy grin at her best friend, "Well, you know me. The Hyugas' "All-seeing Eyes' proved useful."
"U-uhm…"
"I could see where the ANBU were coming from," explained Hinata, having to spell out how her eyes helped.
"O-ok," responded Naruto, excepting the answer.
Eventually, students began to flood in. As the classroom filled, Naruto slumped down, dreading the person who would eventually come in. He gulped as he saw the unmistakable pink hair of Haruna Sakura. Turning towards the nervous Uzumaki, she smirked at his expense.
"Well, look who's already here!" she said pointing at him, "If it isn't orphaned Uzumaki!"
Naruto sunk deeper into his seat.
"What? Can't speak up for yourself?! Pathetic," she continued, "Having a girl like me talk down to you. And I thought the Uzumakis were strong! But maybe that died along with your mother!" she cackled.
Naruto curled up his fist, however he didn't take any action. It never ended well for him as some of Sakura's other friends, or the Sasuke fanclub some called it, would come and back her up.
"Shut up, Harun!" yelled Hinata.
"HM! See Uzumaki! You need a girl like Hinata to stand up for you! You really are pitiful!" laughed Sakura, as she pushed past Hinata, knocking over Naruto's books in the process.
Hinata turned back to her friend, only to see his head facing his lap. The only indication she knew he was upset were the occasional tears that hit his shorts.
"Good morning class!" exclaimed Iruka, as he walked into the room with Mizuki on his left.
Hinata was brought out of her musings by her sensei, and she promptly sat down.
"Today we will be going over the Yondaime Hokage's life, goals, and achievements!" explained Iruka, "Now, can anyone tell us the name of our Yondaime?" he asked.
Immediately, Sakura's hand flew up.
"Yes, Sakura?"
"Yondaime-sama's name was Namikaze Minato," she answered.
Iruka nodded, "Good, now. Can anyone tell me some interesting facts about the Namikaze Clan, or the family that Yondaime came from?"
Sakura's hand shot up once again, "The Namikaze Clan wasn't a clan of shinobi but rather a clan of merchants, similar to mine," she said with smugness, being able to relate to the Namikazes.
Iruka nodded again, but cringed a little hearing Sakura compare her family to the Yondaime's. It happened every time they went over a prominent figure. Somehow she would be able to connect herself to them via similarities or mutuality, trying to seem more important, "Uhm, very good Sakura. Anyone else?" he asked, hoping to get more than that. Naruto raised his hand, surprising many people, as he was known to not speak or answer much in class.
"Yes, Naruto?"
"U-uhm, th-the N-Namikaze C-clan are d-descendants of Senju T-Tobirama," he said softly.
Iruka frowned at Naruto, and then looked at Mizuki who shrugged at him. Turning back to Naruto he asked him, "Naruto, who told you this?"
Naruto swallowed nervously, thinking he was in trouble, "W-when my K-kasan and I-I w-were vi-visiting Ji- I m-mean S-Sandaime-sama, I asked h-her why Y-Yondaime and S-Sandaime l-looked a-alike a-and she told m-me the N-Namikaze were d-descendants of the Nidaime. K-Kasan worked c-closely w-with Y-Yondaime so I g-guessing he t-told her at o-one point," he explained.
Iruka just raised his eyebrow and nodded.
"IRUKA-SENSEI YOU CAN'T BELIEVE HIM! HE PROBABLY JUST WANTS ATTENTION!" yelled Sakura.
Iruka glared at Sakura who quickly sat down, "Haruno Sakura. If you speak out of turn again, you will be sent to the principal for punishment. Is that understood?!" he demanded.
"H-hai, Iruka-sensei," she said, scowling.
Iruka sighed, "I'm sorry about that Naruto. What I was about to say was that I will ask the Sandaime about this. If what you say is true, it should've been added to the books long ago," he told Naruto.
"O-ok Iruka-sensei," responded Naruto.
Suddenly a knocking was heard at the classroom door. Iruka walked up to it, only to see an ANBU with silver hair. He knew who it was, so in a whispering voice, he asked the ANBU what he was here for.
"Kakashi? What is it?" he asked.
"I-I need to see N-Naruto. Something bad h-happened and I-I need him to know," he explained.
Iruka could tell his friend was upset and he nodded. Peeking back into the classroom he looked at Naruto.
"Naruto, can you come outside for a minute," said Iruka somberly.
Naruto didn't like the tone of Iruka's voice, and swallowed the lump in his throat that had formed. He walked down to the stairs and out of the door and saw Kakashi.
"K-Kaka-niisan?" he asked.
Kakashi breathed out shakily, wondering how he was going to break the news to his little brother.
"N-Naruto, I need you to brace yourself for what I'm about to say," said Kakashi, as he took out a note from his pocket.
Naruto saw the note, and it gave him flashbacks to that day. However, he nodded to Kakashi, waiting for what he was going to say.
"Naruto, while Anko was on a mission on the border of Rice and Fire Country, they ran into her old sensei's men. She only had three other shinobi with her and it was reported that there were nearly twenty of Orochirmaru's men. They fought bravely, however her three comrades were killed, and she was taken by them," said Kakashi shakily, "She wrote this and sent it to Konoha," he finished, holding out the scroll.
Naruto stood there frozen. It was when Kakashi held out the note that he was broken from his stupor. He grabbed it shakily and unfolded it. He began to read the contents of the note, and this situation was too similar to the one three years ago.
Dear whoever is reading this,
I have been captured by the traitor Orochimaru, or as many of you know and despise me for it, my former sensei. My team and I were on an espionage mission on the border of Rice and Fire Country when we were ambushed by him and his men. Please relay my next message to Sarutobi Hiruzen, Hatake Kakashi, Uchiha Shisui, Uchiha Itachi, and Uzumaki Naruto.
You mustn't worry about me. I've survived his torture once before, and I will survive it once again. However, there are some things that need to be done. As you all know, Kushina-neechan left the Snake Contract in my hands, and determining when Naruto should sign it. I will tell you this only once. Now is the right time. He will need all the power he can get. I know you may not agree with me, but if anyone knows what's best in this matter, it is me. Kushina-neechan left me to it and you will obey her and my orders. Give Naruto the contract and get him to sign it. Please. That is all I ask of you. I think they have found me. I must go. I love you all. And gaki, good luck.
Naruto didn't even know when he had started crying, but he knew it was early on. He couldn't believe it. Another person he cared for had been taken from him. The only positive was that she was captured, and that was still bad news and Orochimaru's prisoners were tortured and tested on.
"Naruto," said Kakashi sternly.
Naruto looked up to Kakashi with his tear-filled eyes.
"I promise you, I will not stop until I find Anko. I will not return until she is back safe and sound. Understand?" asked Kakashi.
Naruto nodded. He knew it could take Kakashi years before he could find her. And she could be dead or he could be killed. But he had to have faith in his family. They kept him strong, and that proves above anything else their strength. Kakashi ruffled Naruto's hair before shunshining away.
Iruka looked at Naruto, and saw the depressive aura around him. Kneeling down he looked Naruto in the eyes. Naruto, I understand the pain you're going through. I lost my parents at a young age. I know you are hurting but you need to power through. However, I also believe that you need time to grieve. You can head home for now, but I don't want this affecting you too much in the future, as that is what Konoha depends on. Don't let your Will of Fire go out, but rather let it grow. Naruto looked up into his teacher's eyes, and gave him a sad smile and nodded.
…
Shisui walked out into the training ground. He and Itachi had agreed to meet there for genjutsu training, and he suspected that he wasn't there because of the clan. Shisui looked around and frowned. It was quiet, too quiet. There were no birds chirping or sounds of nature. Suddenly, a volley of shurikens appeared from the trees, aiming directly at Shisui. He dodged them, and was greeted with a sight that he really didn't want to see.
"Danzo," growled Shisui.
In front of him was a battalion of ROOT shinobi and their leader Shimura Danzo.
"All of you stay back," commanded Danzo to his ninja.
Danzo and Shisui stared each other down, wondering who would make the first move.
"What's the meaning of this Danzo!?" demanded Shisui.
"Your eye… Kotoamatsukami, a genjutsu that creates false experiences. It can control the user without them even knowing they're being controlled." responded the warhawk, "Such an incredible power, but such a waste using it to stop your clan's coup d'etat. How unfortunate that an Uchiha doesn't know how to use the Sharingan."
Shisui glared at Danzo, releasing a killing intent that would make the Kyubi proud, however Danzo appeared unfazed by this.
"Even if you used that genjutsu on your clan, as long as the clan exists, a coup is still a possibility. And even if your plan worked, it is only for this instance. How do we know they won't plan to attack again? So by exterminating the Uchihas, that possibility dies with them," continued Danzo.
"Damn you Danzo, you were plotting this all along," growled Shisui.
"Only for the good of Konoha," said Danzo, "Do not worry Shisui, I will make good use of your eyes," finished Danzo as he rushed at Shisui.
Shisui drew his tanto and the two began their fight.
…
Shisui and Danzo had remained equal for the duration of the fight, but none had gotten the upper hand. Even after fighting well into the evening, not one of them had landed a killing blow.
"Well, I can definitely see why you are considered the strongest Uchiha," said Danzo, "Being able to put up with me is no easy feat. However, that ends here!"
The ROOT ANBU jumped from the bushes, sending many projectiles at Shisui, losing his focus on Danzo for the time being, deflected the weapons that were launched at him. Danzo smirked as he sunk into the ground. Shisui turned his head, however it was too late as Danzo stuck out his arm, grabbing his right Sharingan, stealing it from him and impaling Shisui through the chest with a kunai.
"Aaauurgh!" cried Shisui, as he stumbled to the ground.
"One down, one to go," said Danzo.
Shisui looked up to see Danzo implant the eye into his right eye socket, "Damn, I can't let this happen!'
Using every ounce of energy he had left, he sent all the chakra he could into his left eye. It changed from the three tomoes into the four-pronged kunai of his Mangekyo Sharingan. A giant cloud of dust and wind exploded from Shisui, blowing Danzo and his ROOT agents back. As the smoke cleared, they saw a giant, green, samurai in front of them from the waist up. The chest opened up revealing a red tomoe. Suddenly, green beams were shot out, and they killed the ROOT shinobi instantly as it made contact with them. Inside of the susanoo was an exhausted Shisui. He began to fall from his wounds, and as the susanoo fell, a giant fireball came from the surrounding forest. When Danzo and the remaining ROOT agents looked back, Shisui was gone.
…
Naruto sat on his bed, crying. He couldn't believe Anko-neechan was captured, she was too strong. However, before he could cry any further, he heard a crashing window and someone cry out, "NARUTO!"
Naruto ran to who was calling him, only to see a nightmare awaiting. There was Itachi and Shisui, however Shisui lay on the floor, blood gushing out of his chest.
"SHISUI-NII!" cried Naruto as he ran to brother's side.
Shisui looked into his brother's tear-filled eyes and smiled a sad smile.
"Naruto, Itachi, I know I won't live much longer… cough… so please… cough… listen to me," he said.
"No! Shisui-nii, we can get you help!" cried Naruto.
"Naruto, I said listen. Please. The Uchiha's have been planning a coup d'etat, and Itachi and I had a way to stop it. However, Shimura Danzo has taken my right eye, and I am slowly dying. I know now there is no stopping what is to come, and as much as it saddens me, this is the path that Konoha will go down. However, I still believe that peace is achievable," he said, "Naruto. I leave my legacy to you. Bring peace to this world. You and Itachi are the only ones I trust can do that. There will be people who will come along and join you on that path, and those are people that I will trust as well," he said. He reached for his left eye, and tore it out. He held it up to Naruto, "Naruto, I said three years ago that bloodlines are tools like anything else. My eye is also a tool. Use this tool however you need too, as I leave it to you," he said. He coughed up blood, only making Naruto cry harder. However, wanting to fulfill his brother's final wish, he took the Sharingan and placed it into his empty socket.
Itachi looked at Naruto and knew he needed to know what was coming, "Naruto. What I will do in the following days will be viewed as a crime against humanity, and will ruin my reputation. You will most likely not see me for a long time after today. However, what I am doing is for the good of the village, and unfortunately, this is all we have left at stopping the Uchihas coup. Please do not hate me for this, as me and Shisui both know this is the best option for Konoha's survival. You are the only other one who knows this besides the Hokage and elders," he explained.
Naruto nodded his head at Itachi.
Shisui looked at his two brothers and smiled, "I wish I had more time with the two of you, however my time has just run out. Just know that I will always be watching over you. Goodbye, my brothers…"
And with that Uchiha Shisui was dead.
Naruto stared at his brother's corpse and began to shake. He looked at his hands, which were stained with his blood. He began to shake even more until he looked up to the heavens and unleashed a scream that would haunt Konoha for nights to come.
"AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!"
END
Holy crap long chapter. My fingers are tired. I really hope you enjoyed reading this chapter as it took me a long time to think up how I would do it. Originality is hard. And I know that this was a downer, but it will get better. That I promise and I never go back on my word!
Naruto: The Boy of Three Bloodlines
The next chapter should be out in 3-4 days, as I need to take a break. I will begin to follow a constant schedule of going from one story to another. The schedule will essentially be as follows:
Naruto: The Boy of Three Bloodlines - 1 chapter
Konoha's Tag Team - 1 chapter
Konoha's Blood Fox - 1 chapter
Also, I highly recommend you go read the other to fanfictions, as I have big things planned for all three. Thank you and adiós.
