So, in the writing of this chapter I'd finally committed to where I was going with this part of the story. I wasn't sure which way I wanted to go as I kept wavering back and forth but now I've committed.

Chapter Thirty-seven

Corporal had the coms, while Captain Davis was currently her eyes watching the Valiant and Sargent Peters had her eyes on the ground with Martha. While she was out of the building, she had to trust her people to keep their eyes and ears on the monitors as she directed – especially over this day, night and the next morning. The most important 36hours of the last 365days.

Raven had managed to find the people; tell them the story of the Doctor and she was beginning to travel back down to Kent. She hadn't planned on meeting with Martha but she'd moved across the lands with more speeds than she'd anticipated. With the time that she'd gained back, Raven had decided to go to Martha instead of Torchwood because Martha needed some support in this final push.

The Master knew that Martha had touched down on English soil and even roughly where, so Raven was having to be very careful as she moved passed patrol after patrol of Sphere.

"Raven," Corporal caught her attention over the coms.

Unable to speak without endangering her life, Raven silently taped her com in response to show she was listening.

"The Master has touched ground in the street outside where Martha is. He's found her. You need to pull back." the corporal warned, clear concern in his voice.

All of the soldiers that she had saved and worked closely with over the last year had grown to care greatly for her – especially since she was always going out into danger and they were left behind. They hadn't wanted her to leave the base in this final push, it hadn't been necessary, and they definitely hadn't wanted her to go to Martha instead of Torchwood with her initial mission complete.

Raven gritted her teeth, indecisively before she continued on. She made it to the end of the street where the Master and his men and spheres were focused on the figure of Martha Jones.

Martha threw her backpack, which contained the chemical weapon that UNIT had designed against Time Lords, towards the feet of the Master who destroyed it with his laser.

"And now, good companion, your work is done." The Master raised his laser at Martha who closed her eyes acceptingly.

"No!" Tom's familiar voice came from one of the refugee houses as an unfamiliar face ran out of the house with a gun raised.

Without hesitating, the master turned the lasar on Tom and killed him causing Martha to flinch.

"But you, when you die, the Doctor should be witness, hmm? Almost dawn, Martha, and the planet Earth marches to war." The Master laughed.

"And what about me?" Raven stepped out onto the street; her hands already raised in surrender.

"Hold your fire!" The Master was quick to order when he identified who was walking towards him. "The Woman who Walked the Earth and the Woman who Saved the People! Truly, this will be a glorious morning! Search her for weapons and detain her."

Raven stopped approaching as she was surrounded then, allowing the men to search her. She'd removed her weapons before she'd stepped out. The only things she'd not removed from her person was her coms and her phone which had both been concealed. The com was an 'invisible' one which wouldn't be seen in a first inspection, especially not at night, so it wouldn't be found straight away. Her found had been concealed inside her bra which they couldn't find in a pat down because of the type of protective padding she used.

"No weapons, most unusual for you." the Master observed when Raven's hands were bound behind her back without a fight and one of the men who had searched her simple shook his head.

"Why surrender while fully armed?" Raven questioned the Master, her eyes flickering to Martha.

Martha and Raven were kept under silent guard for several hours until the hour approached eight as the Master wanted to make their execution part of his statement on his declaration of war. Martha was left unbound, not being viewed as a physical threat even though she had two armed guards stood at her shoulders. Raven however, had her hands tightly bound in front of her and three guards at her shoulders in the event that she decided to escape or fight. As the only surviving Torchwood member besides Jack, she had proven herself to be a threat.

But the time had finally approached and the Master ordered the guards to bring them to the deck for the final show along with the other prisoners. Over the radio that the guards carried and had not muted, they'd been able to hear that Jack and the Jones family had already been brought to the deck so that they were there when they were brought in – a walk of shame, Raven assumed that the Master thought they were being forced to take.

Raven and Martha walked in shoulder to shoulder, ignoring the guards at their backs. Martha turned her head to look at her family, smiling sadly at them. As they came in line with where Jack was being guarded and restrained, Raven ducked under the hold of her guard and darted to where Jack was. She slid under the lazar that the Master shot at her before she got to her feet in time to reach Jack and throw her bound arms around Jack's neck in a hug. Instinctively, Jack twisted his own body so he was slightly blocking her smaller form from the Master.

"Hay love," Jack whispered, tucking his head in close as he was unable to hug her back with his arms bound behind his back.

"I've reactivated the fifteenth satellite; will you be able to stop the paradox?" Raven whispered, knowing her team where listening and watching – wating for the countdown. Dropping her hands from down his neck to his bound hands, Raven started undoing his bindings.

"Brought force approach," Jack explained his agreement.

"Separate them!" The Master snapped angrily.

Even as she felt the hands of the guards grabbing onto her and Jack to separate them, Raven lifted her head and pulled Jack into a desperate kiss that he responded to. It was still fifteen minutes until 8:02, and she needed to keep Martha alive until the final countdown when the Doctor would be able to take over and stop the Master.

"Interesting," The Master laughed when Raven was finally pulled away from Jack and forced on her knees in front of the Master with the guards keeping their hands on her. Martha was directed back to stand by the Doctor's bird cage at gun point – similar to how her family were being contained opposite her.

"I knew that you were the Second of Torchwood and the only surviving member, I hadn't realised you were also the freak's lover." The Master chuckled. "You're been a pain in my side for the past year, and before my crowning moment lets remove the thorn in my side. Any last words?"

"I have nothing to say to you, you are nothing to me." Raven told the Master, keeping her head raised. She glanced briefly to Martha. "It was an honour watching over you, Martha Jones. Doctor, thank you for saving me so that I might find my life and my love. My Captain, I'll be in your memories."

"How sweet." The Master mocked. "Kill her."

Th safety was removed from the guns that the guards on her sides carried and Raven locked her eyes with Jack, smiling apologetically that he was being forced to watch this. He had four men holding him back, forcing him to his knees to stop him from getting to her. His hands were free of binds but that just meant that his arms were free for the guards to grab along with his shoulders.
