Chapter 50 Cyberspace Attack
Ash and Lillie find Viri who is working on a project, and they decide to help out.
Viri: There is a Pokemon called Type: Null that was created by the Aether Foundation. Three of them were made.
Lillie: You're looking at the daughter of the President of Aether Foundation. We know about Type: Null.
Viri: Oh? You are President Lusamine's daughter? What a small world. (Shakes Lillie's hand) We've gotten permission from your mother to create more Type: Null. Maybe there will eventually be enough to inhabit the wild.
Ash: I see...that sounds very interesting to know.
Viri: I'd like to entrust one with a trainer. But I'm not just going to give it away. I have to make sure Type: Null's trainer is competent and compassionate. Do you think you're up to the task?
Lillie turns to Ash, who nods as he decides to do the task. Viri uses three Pokemon, Starmie, Porygon-Z and Magnezone. But in the end, they are defeated as Ash uses Pikachu, Lucario, and Krookodile to knock them out.
Viri: You'll make a fine trainer for Type: Null! (Recalls Magnezone) I couldn't have asked for more. Well, I'm sure I could, but then you'd exceed those expectations too.
Then he gives Ash the Pokeball containing Type: Null, much to Ash and Lillie's surprise.
Ash and Lillie's New Capture in Research Institute: Type: Null (Event)
Viri: Take good care of Type: Null. And Type: Null, take good care of Ash and Lillie.
After sending it out, it is in pain because of the helmet.
Ash: I guess just like how Gladion did, we need to also free him from the Helmet.
Lillie: I'm sure we can, but I have another question...Silvally's ability is RKS System, and my Brother has those Discs to change its typing. But where are the Discs?
Ash: I don't know, but I guess we will get them if we help Viri again?
As they go to Viri, he is now asking them for another mission.
Viri: We've been trying to make sure no one can hack into our online database to look at classified information. Generally, we don't have problems. The more secret the files are supposed to be, the harder it is to reach them. And with the basic build for cyberspace done, we can physically find someone if they're hacking us. But you can never be too careful. I'd like you to make rounds in cyberspace to make sure no one's trying to get into our systems.
Lillie: But what does it have to do with the discs?
Viri: The discs are in Cyberspace. If you want them, you'll have to find them there. Speak to Anthony and he'll take you there.
The couple is now walking toward the man Anthony, and he decides to introduce himself.
Anthony: Hi there. My name is Anthony. I manage the PCs of the Ceolis region. I used to be the Bug-type Gym Leader, but I resigned and passed on my title to have more time to do my work.
Ash: You must be strong if you were a Gym Leader, considering I haven't faced the Bug Type Gym Leader yet.
Anthony: Why thanks. As I'm sure you're aware, Pokemon can be stored in the PC system. For as long as it's been around, people have wondered what it's like in there. We're still decades away from allowing humans to see for themselves, but I've spent years working on the precursor to it. By that I mean, allowing people to visit the physical world of cyberspace.
Lillie: And we are asked by Viri to go inside, can you let us go?
Anthony was hesitating at first since he doesn't want to let two people enter because of the danger inside, but when he sees Ash's eyes, he is a little shocked.
Anthony: Those eyes...are you perhaps Delia's son?
Ash: You know my mother? I heard that she worked there when she was at Ceolis.
Anthony: That's right, we have been teammates for a long time, how is she? Since it sure has been a while since she moved to Kanto.
Ash: She is doing fine, she has returned to Ceolis and she is in South Virima City.
Anthony: I see, then I'll send you to Cyber Space.
After a flash of light, Ash and Lillie are now at a place that seems to be inside of a computer, the ground below is glowing green, and they can see a lot of Porygon floating nearby.
Lillie: This place is weird...
Ash: I know what you mean. We're in the Cyberspace after all.
A Porygon notices them and he floats towards them, and he is trying to warn them about something in this place.
Porygon: SOME DATA PATCHES PROVIDE AN ELEVATION BOOST. USE THESE TO ACCESS PANELS THAT YOU COULDN'T REACH OTHERWISE. NOTICE THE PATCHES THAT ARE A BIT BRIGHTER.
Ash and Lillie nod as they heed the warnings, they also find a Porygon and captures it, evolving it into the Porygon-Z after using the items.
Ash and Lillie's New Pokemon in Cyberspace: Porygon (Cave)
As they move forward, they accidentally step on a red panel, and they hear a voice that seems to scare them.
Malware Pestilence: THREAT DETECTED! COMMENCING ATTACK PROTOCOL!
Just then, a MissingNo called Malware Pestilence appears and it has a Bug Memory on itself, which is why it is the color light green.
Porygon: RED DATA PATCHES ARE CORRUPTED DATA. YOU CAN CLEAN THEM BY STEPPING ONTO THEM AND DEFEATING THE MALWARE INSIDE. BE WARNED THAT MALWARE CAN BE VERY STRONG AND A BIT SCARY.
Ash: Looks like we need to fight this one...
Lillie: But how are we going to fight it? It is not even a Pokemon.
Ash: We'll fight it like a Pokemon, it has Bug Memory, which means it might be Bug Type.
But as Ash and Lillie send out Noivern and Centiskorch to battle, the Pokemon shoots out a green laser beam at Centiskorch, causing it to faint.
Lillie: (Gasps at how Centiskorch is defeated easily) What was that?
Ash: (Checking Rotom Phone) That is something called Purge Protocol. It is a One-Hit KO move with 100% accuracy and 1 PP. Lillie, right now your Pokemon is a little lower level, just leave the battling to me.
Lillie: Okay...(Frowns as she wants to help Ash out, but she can't)
Noivern goes for Hurricane, but they see some chips-like things surrounding Noivern, attacking it and also healing the MissingNo.
Ash: It is using Attack Order and Heal Order? Then we just need to make sure it doesn't use that.
MissingNo goes for Fell Stinger, but it doesn't seem to do much damage to Noivern, and in the end, MissingNo is defeated by a Dragon Claw from the Dragon.
Malware Pestilence: ERROR...ERROR...
The MissingNo disappears and it leaves the Bug Memory on the ground, Ash picks it up and puts it in the bag.
Ash: So we have to defeat all 16 of these MissingNos if we want to get all the memories...
Lillie: That might be a problem, and we also need to find the hackers that Viri asks us about.
After defeating 3 more MissingNos and getting three more discs for Silvally, they notice a yellow panel in front of them.
Ash: there is a Yellow panel, I wonder what it is going to do...
Lillie: Let's try it out.
And when Ash and Lillie step at the yellow panel, a bright light envelops them and they are turning into data. Once they open their eyes again, they find themselves in another place.
Ash: I guess we are teleported.
Lillie: I must say that was cool.
As they continue to step on the red panels, all the MissingNos are going to attack them, they manage to defeat every one of them and earn the discs, and eventually, they manage to get all 17 discs that are scattered in the Cyberspace, after getting all the discs, they also manage to get Silvally out of its helmet, and they are delighted that they can use the discs.
Ash: That's all of them. I think we should continue to find the hackers.
Lillie: Yeah...
As they are about to go to the yellow teleporter, they find two scientists at a computer.
Female: Um...
Male: What are you two doing here, kids?
Ash: We could ask the same thing as well. We're checking to make sure no one's hacking.
Female: Oh, so are we! We haven't seen anyone suspicious, so I think we're safe.
Ash and Lillie look at their sweating faces and they know that those two are lying.
Lillie: You know what? I think maybe you guys are hackers.
Male: What do you mean you think we're hackers?
Ash: I am sure that Anthony or Viri didn't tell us that there is somebody inside making rounds.
Female: I'm sure they just didn't see the need to mention it.
Lillie: (Not trusting them) Then why did they ask us if you were just doing it?
After finding no excuses, the two scientists decide to show their true colors.
Antonine: Fine, you caught us. Esmeralda, assist me to stop them.
Esmeralda: You bet, I guess we need to get rid of you two.
As they use Magcargo, Alakazam, Pinchurchin, Seviper, Roserade, and Sandslash to stop them, but both Ash and Lillie beat them all with the help of the newly captured Porygon-Z and Silvally.
Antonine: (Horrified at the strength of both Porygon-Z and Silvally) No! We need more time!
Esmeralda: We have to retreat!
Ash: No you won't! (Asks Porygon-Z and Silvally to trap them) What are you doing here?
Antonine: We were paid a good amount of money from another company to steal research from here so they can take credit for it. There goes that money...and our jobs..."
Ash and Lillie then have their Pokemon look after them as they go back to the real world. After getting back to the real world, Viri and Anthony help to hand the two hackers to the police.
Anthony: Thank you for helping us catch those thieves. I wonder what will happen if our research was stolen.
Viri: I agree. By the way, there is one more thing I need to ask you, there's an employee here who we haven't seen for a while. He's a good researcher. If he wasn't, he wouldn't have been hired here in the first place. The problem is that he takes breaks for long periods of time without notifying us. One of his favorite pastimes is watching Clever Pokemon Contests in Olidroll City. Maybe you can find him there and tell him to get back to work.
Ash and Lillie are going to the Contest Hall, on the way, they manage to purchase an Up-Grade and a Dubious Disc to evolve Porygon into Porygon-Z in the end. After going back to Olidroll City, they find the said scientist there, after telling him about the stuff at the Research Institute.
Scientist: They want me back at the Pokemon Research Institute? I guess I have been watching contests for a pretty long time...Okay, I'll go back.
After getting back to the Research Lab, Viri is delighted to have his co-worker back.
Viri: Type: Null has a dependable trainer, our servers have been secured, and our missing employee has returned. You've done an excellent job. There's one more situation you could assist with if you want, though I don't expect you to know anything about this one.
Lillie: And what is it?
Viri: A few months ago, I found what we at the research institute have come to call a "Universe Fragment". Judging from the size of it, assuming all the pieces are equal, I'd say there are five in total. I have one, so that means we'd need to find the other four. We don't really have any idea what they could do, but maybe we'd learn something if we could put them all together.
Ash: Do you mean this one? (Shows the Universe Fragment)
Viri: (Shocked) Where did you find that?
Ash: At the Hip Hop Ship Shop. I mean, it was guarded by a Ditto. So we need to find the Universe Fragments just like those Mable's Marbles...I see.
After that, they bid farewell to Viri as they leave the Research Institute.
