A few weeks have passed since Takeshi and Mitsuko haven't returned from another world. Ryu and Yumi head to the world to find them. They discovered a game called SAO. What they didn't know was that they're going to be trapped, have to survive in order to beat the death game.

On the day the game is completed, all those who still live are restored to the reality they have desired for so long. All except one, who is forced to remain for reasons unknown. Now alone to face the full brunt of a splintered and discarded Aincrad's fury, he must undertake the impossible task of discovering a way out of the floating castle by himself… or die trying.

Lured by new technology from Rath, Kirito must once again dive into the Underworld to find Eugeo's soul, in the hopes that he can bring his best friend back. Once inside the Underworld, Kirito discovers people have gone missing and there is a plot to resurrect the Pontifex. However, new technology always comes with a price and sacrifices must be made.

After learning of Kirito's betrayal to stay and protect Alice and the Underworld, Eugeo falls victim to Administrator's will once again. After gaining knowledge found on a laptop in the Central Cathedral, the Pontifex decides to 'upgrade' Eugeo to match the level of the swordsman who killed her. Now, things are personal and revenge will be sweet.
