Gandalf cared for Legolas, he was his son at heart, and when Thranduil was not there for his son, Gandalf was. MOVIE BASED! AND MORE HEADCANON THAN NOT. Just a mostly sweet story about Gandalf and Legolas because I always thought that they could've had a sweet father-son relationship, since Gandalf obviously knew him before the Hobbit (movie) took place.
