Ash's Pokemon Journey
Summary: This story is about how I think that ash's journey should have gone through, Kanto, Orange Islands, Johto, Hoenn, Sinnoh and Unova. Smart, a psychic and an Aura user. I do not own pokemon.
Note: I am not doing the Kalos Region. So fairy pokemon and Mega Evolutions don't exist.
Chapter 160
Bertha And
Arrowroot Town,
Today the gang were making their way to Lake Valor to the Sinnoh Grand Festival. Right now they had arrived at a town. But to their unknown, trouble was going on in that town.
Cassidy and Butch were in the same town and they were setting up another plan to steal pokemon. "So Cass what are we going to do this time?" asked Butch. "I am not sure just yet," admitted Cassidy "I mean it's no good using the old fake pokemon day care or things like that; that plan is too old now. Not to mention Bertha of the Elite four is here". "Hey maybe Bertha is our key to success" said Butch. "You're not thinking of us stealing her pokemon are you Butch?" asked Cassidy, thinking that's a stupid idea. "Course not; I'm not that dumb enough to attack an Elite four member," said Butch "what I'm thinking is maybe we can use someone or something Bertha holds dear. And use that to make her surrender while we nab other people's pokemon". "Now that's a more sensible idea," said Cassidy "but how shall we do it?" "It just so happens, I've learnt something about her family" Butch smirked.
While Cassidy and Butch were going over a new plan, the gang had met up with a trainer named Roland. Roland was ten years old like Dawn and his first pokemon was a Magby. "Your Magby looks cool as well as cute Roland" said Dawn. "It sure is;" said Roland "I must admit though I can't wait till it evolves into Magmar and then into Magmortar". "Ah that will happen sooner than you think as long as you take good care of Magby and train it well" said Brock. "Brock's right;" said Ash "and anyway you should make more memories with Magby while you can. Once Magby evolves it won't go back to being a Magby". "Ash is right" said Dawn. Roland started to see that Brock and Ash were right. "I take it you four have evolved some of your pokemon right?" he asked. "Lots" replied Ash. "Just a few" said Dawn.
While Roland was talking to the gang, Cassidy and Butch were peeking on Roland. "Oohhh the brats are here," growled Cassidy "so Butch who are we dealing with?" "It's that boy with the twerps;" said Butch "I've heard he's a relative of Bertha. I'm sure she would pay handsomely if something was to ever happen to him". Cassidy was starting to see the point.
Roland was now done talking and had to get back home because a great-aunt of his was visiting. The great-aunt of course is Bertha of the elite four, but the gang didn't know this yet. This was when Cassidy and Butch decided to strike. "Well Magby as soon as we get home, let's do some practicing" said Roland. Magby agreed to that idea. Suddenly a car came up to Roland, then Butch came out of the car and quickly grabbed Roland and placed him in the car. Then Cassidy quickly drove on. Magby, who had been left behind saw everything and decided to go for help.
At that time the gang had just finished having a snack. "So guys what shall we do?" asked Dawn. Before anybody could answer Magby turned up in a panic; he had decided to ask the gang for help. "Oh hi Magby, what's up?" asked Ash "And where's Roland?" Magby started talking worriedly. "Magby just said that Roland had just been taken away by somebody and they drove off in a hurry" said Ash. "You mean Roland has been kidnapped?!" gasped Dawn. "We better tell Officer Jenny right away" said Brock. "Excuse me, but has something happened?" said a voice.
The voice belonged to an old lady, wearing a smart white coat and a brown scarf around her neck. "Hey aren't you Bertha of the elite four?" asked Brock. Bertha quickly shushed him. "I do not like being called that" she said, crossly. "Sorry" said Brock, nervously. The gang was surprised they were meeting Bertha, but this was no time for introductions. Dawn explained to the woman what has happened. "Oh that's bad" said the woman. She turned to Magby and asked it to lead her to where it happened. Magby showed everyone where Roland was kidnapped and pointed what direction the car went. "How are we going to find Roland at this point?" said Dawn, worriedly. "Nothing my pokemon Gliscor can't help with" said the woman. She released a Gliscor. "Gliscor I need your help with locating my great-nephew" she said. "Roland's your great-nephew?!" gasped Dawn. "He is a son of one of my nephews" replied Bertha. Gliscor flew up and started using screech in the area. "I take it it's using its radar ability to seek out Roland right?" said Ash. "Correct young man," said Bertha "you seem to know about Gliscor". "I have one myself" said Ash, smiling. Soon Gliscor came back. "Did you find Roland?" asked Bertha. Gliscor nodded and then started talking. "Oh no, Gliscor is saying the car has left this town and is in the woods near here" said Ash. "Oh great, how will we catch up to them now?" said Dawn. "I can help with that" said Bertha.
Bertha owned a SUV and she drove the gang to the woods; the gang had offered to help. "Keep your eyes out for a car kids" said Bertha. The gang kept their eyes peeled. Suddenly Tomo saw the car and called out. Then Bertha drove to where the car was.
At this time Butch and Cassidy had parked their car in the middle of the woods and right now they had Roland tied up around a tree. "Just you wait till Bertha hears about this!" shouted Roland. "Sorry but we are not scared of her, it is her who will be scared of us after we take her pokemon" Butch smirked. "Yes especially since we have you here to persuade her" said Cassidy. Roland was getting angry.
At that moment Bertha and the gang turned up; they saw Roland tied to the tree. "I should have known you two had something to do with this!" shouted Ash. "You know these people?" asked Bertha. "They are Team Rocket; bad guys who steal pokemon from people" answered Tomo. "What did you kidnap Roland for!?" shouted Dawn. "Simple all we want is Bertha's pokemon" answered Cassidy. "Since this boy is a relative of yours Bertha," said Butch "I suggest you just calmly hand over all your pokemon to us; that way you will get the boy back in one piece". The gang was shocked to hear Cassidy and Butch were using Roland as bait.
Suddenly Cassidy and Butch got hit by some sand. The sand had come from Bertha's Gliscor. "Now Gliscor cut the ropes" said Bertha. Gliscor used its claws to cut the ropes and Roland was now free. "Bertha!" cried Roland, in delight. "Are you alright Roland?" asked Ash. Roland was just fine. Cassidy and Butch were not happy to have their planed foiled and they sent out their pokemon Machamp and Swampert to attack. Ash was about to call out one of his pokemon, but Bertha stopped him. "I will deal with these people for kidnapping my great-nephew" she said, angrily. Ash stepped aside while Bertha sent out a Golem. Team Rocket smirked; because they were using Machamp and Swampert, they believed they would defeat Golem as it's a rock type. But they were wrong. Cassidy ordered Swampert to use water gun, but Golem easily rolled through the water with rollout and tackled Swampert really hard. Next ordered Butch ordered Machamp to use dynamic punch, but Golem easily countered it with mega punch. "Wow, look at that!" gasped Dawn. She found it amazing of how strong Golem is. "Bertha isn't an elite four member for nothing" said Brock. "Now Golem use hyper beam" said Bertha. Golem fired a hyper beam attack and Team Rocket was sent flying off with their pokemon.
Bertha and Roland were grateful to the gang for helping them. "I wish there was something I could give you to show my gratitude" said Bertha. Ash spoke up. "If you please Bertha I would like to have a battle with you," he said "I want to take any chance I can of battling strong trainers. So please say yes". Everyone was surprised by Ash's request, but Bertha agreed. "If that's what you want young man I accept your challenge" she said. Truth is she liked Ash's brave and bold spirit.
Ash and Bertha got ready to battle while the others stood at the side to watch. Roland was excited to see hiss great-aunt battle. Bertha sent out a Hippowdon to battle, and Ash decided to send out Torterra. Everyone knew grass pokemon have the advantage over ground pokemon, but with Bertha being an elite four member Torterra may have it difficulty.
Ash started off by telling Torterra to use leaf storm, but Hippowdon used dig to dodge it. Torterra became worried as he didn't know where Hippowdon was now. "Stay calm Torterra and remember what Venasaur taught you" said Ash. So Torterra did calm down and then he started thumping the ground hard with his two front feet. "That's superpower;" said Brock "Torterra is using it to get Hippowdon to come out of the ground". "Must be something Ash's Venasaur taught him" said Dawn. Hippowdon came out of the ground alright because of Torterra's thumping. "Hippowdon use iron head" said Bertha. Hippowdon charged towards Torterra with iron head. "Counter it with superpower Torterra" said Ash. The two pokemon tackled each other with their attacks. As Hippowdon was stronger than Torterra, Torterra was hurt a lot. "Let's not give up Torterra, use energy ball" said Ash. Torterra fired an energy ball and this time Hippowdon got hit, but it didn't do a lot of damage like it normally would. Hippowdon was indeed very strong. "Fire fang Hippowdon" said Bertha. Hippowdon bit down on Torterra with fire fang, before Torterra could do anything. The attack was painful for Torterra. Then Hippowdon tackled Torterra with iron head. Torterra fainted from the attack right away. Bertha had won this battle.
Ash tended to Torterra and told him he did well battling Hippowdon. "I have to say young man;" said Bertha "you and your pokemon certainly showed an impressing way to deal with things when you are in a tight spot in battles". "I have been in tough battles many times before," said Ash "and thanks to them I learnt many things". Bertha could tell that Ash will be a greater pokemon trainer than he already was in the future, if he kept on working hard with his pokemon. Roland was impressed with how Ash battled his great-aunt and vowed he will work hard with Magby so he will become a great pokemon trainer too.
Today was an exciting day; the gang got to meet Bertha of the elite four and Ash had a chance to battle her.
Today the gang were passing through a town called Arrowroot Town to make their way to Lake Valor. Just then Brock noticed something. It was a poster, saying a pokemon contest was being held in Arrowroot today. "Ha well we don't need to enter this contest, do we Dawn?" Ash chuckled. "Of course not;" answered Dawn "we have already got our five ribbons, so there's no need to enter this one Ash".
Suddenly a lady in a smart ladies uniform came up to the gang. "Excuse me but you must be Lady Dawn," she said to Dawn "we have been waiting for you". Dawn was confused with what the lady just said. "Excuse me but how do you know who I am and what do you mean about waiting for me?" asked Dawn. "Oh do excuse me, my name is Freesia and I'm here to ask you to become a princess for today" said the lady. "What?!" gasped Dawn.
To answer everyone's confusion, Freesia brought the gang to a palace and introduced them to a princess. The princess' name was Salvia and to everyone's surprise she looked just like Dawn, as if she was a twin. "It so nice to finally meet you Dawn, and Ash, Tomo and Brock as well" said Princess Salvia. "You know who we are?" said Brock. Princess Salvia explained she was a big fan of Dawn's and she had seen her in all the contests and other competitions she had participated in on TV. "The reason I asked Freesia to bring you here Dawn because I want to swap places with you just for today" said Princess Salvia.
Freesia explained Princess Salvia really wanted to enter the Arrowroot contest today, because she always wanted to participate in one for once. But unfortunately due to her royal duties as an ambassador of goodwill in Arrowroot Town she wouldn't be able to enter the contest. "So please Dawn can you swap places with me just for today until the contest is over?" asked Princess Salvia. Dawn understood Princess Sylvia's feelings and agreed to swap places with her. "Are you going to be alright with this Dawn?" asked Ash "I've been told before that being royalty is very difficult". (He knows this due to the number of times he's met royal people before) "Don't worry Ash I'll be fine" said Dawn. (She has no idea what she's going to get herself into) "That's settled then" said Freesia.
Dawn and Princess Salvia went into the princess' room and changed clothes; the princess wore Dawn's clothes and Dawn wore the princess' clothes. "Wow," said Dawn, admiring the dress, "I've always wanted to dress up as a princess". Princess Salvia was finding it strange wearing Dawn's clothes because she had never dressed up as a commoner before. "You two really do look like twins" said Brock. Princess Salvia took out a pokeball and sent out her pokemon, a Togekiss. "Togekiss and I have been training together a lot, hoping we would enter a contest one day" said Princess Salvia.
Suddenly there was a knock on the door. Princess Salvia quickly returned her Togekiss. Princess Salvia's butler came into the room. Freesia quickly led the boys and Princess Salvia out of the palace, leaving Dawn to be the princess. "I don't seem to recall any meeting schedule at this time your highness" said the butler. "No need to worry, it's okay" said Dawn, nervously. "That is not the language for a princess" said the butler. The butler, having no idea he wasn't talking to Princess Salvia, told Dawn about the meetings she had today and to make sure she smiled at all times. Dawn was starting to get really nervous now because she was going to do things she had never done before.
Meanwhile Princess Salvia and the boys were standing outside the contest hall. "It is almost time for this contest; I'm starting to feel a little nervous" said Princess Salvia. "Don't worry your highness;" said Ash "as I've said to Dawn lots of times; remember to have fun in the contest and have faith in yourself and your pokemon. And remember you've waited a long time for this chance, so enjoy it while you can". "Yes I will, thank you Ash" said Princess Salvia. The group went into the contest hall and Princess Salvia signed up at once.
It wasn't long till the contest was starting. Marian did the usual introductions and showed off the Arrowroot ribbon. The Arrowroot ribbon was purple with white lines across it and it had quite a big pin. Princess Salvia waited in the waiting room, while the boys sat in the seating area. Soon the contestants were showing off their pokemon in the appeal round. There were many great acts going on between the coordinators and their pokemon. It wasn't long till it was Princess Sylvia's turn. Of course everyone believed she was Dawn, so they had no idea she was someone else; Princess Sylvia entered herself with Dawn's name. Princess Sylvia called out Togekiss with a line seal. To start off Togekiss released an aura sphere attack into the air, and used sky attack to break the aura sphere into pieces. To finish it off Togekiss used air slash to break apart the aura sphere pieces and it created a rain of the northern lights. The audience liked it and the judges thought it was beautiful.
After the performances were over, the boys went to see Princess Sylvia in the waiting room. "Your performance was wonderful your highness" said Ash. "Thank you," said Princess Sylvia "to tell you the truth I was really nervous while on stage. My heart is still pounding, how about you Togekiss?" Togekiss had been nervous but she found it fun all the same. "Relax your highness," said Brock "I know you have passed onto the second round for show". "Yeah and I bet you will win this contest" said Tomo. "Thank you for your kind words," said Princess Sylvia "you know I am very happy I entered this pokemon contest, seeing these coordinators working alongside with their pokemon. I haven't had so much fun in all my life". "With how you've always been so busy with royal duties I understand that," said Brock "but it never hurts to have fun once in a while". "Speaking of royal duties," said Ash "I wonder how Dawn is coping in the palace?"
Poor Dawn was not coping well at the palace. She had to meet and greet a lot of people. Then she had to attend lunch with a lot of other people. Dawn didn't know a thing about a princess' etiquette, so she ended up making quite a number of mistakes. As the butler had no idea about the switcheroo he didn't understand the princess' behaviour and felt he needed to have words with her later.
Back at the contest the results of who were going into the second round was up, and Princess Sylvia was one of them. One by one the princess defeated her opponents till she finally got to the last round. When the final battle came, there was a big surprise for everyone. Dawn arrived at the pokemon contest with Freesia and the butler to watch the final round. This was an appointment Dawn had to do as the princess. Ash, Brock and Tomo saw her too and they were surprised. "I hope Dawn has been doing alright" said Ash. "I hope no one has suspected that she's not the princess" said Brock.
Princess Sylvia's final opponent was a girl, four years older than her, named Emma and she was using a Probopass. "That could be bad for Princess Sylvia," said Brock "as Probopass is a rock type, Togekiss has a big disadvantage over it especially since Probopass can know electric moves". "Yes but I have faith that the princess will win this" said Ash. Dawn watched on nervously for Princess Sylvia. She wanted to call out to her to give her encouragement, but she feared that would get her into more trouble with the butler.
Princess Sylvia started off by telling Togekiss to use aura sphere. But Probopass used stone edge to counter attack it. Probopass attack next with discharge and Poor Togekiss got hit by it. "Togekiss are you alright?" asked Princess Sylvia. Togekiss was okay but she was a bit shaken from that electric move. "This really will be hard for the princess" said Tomo. Dawn looked on nervously from her chair. Emma ordered Probopass to use sandstorm next and sand flew everywhere. Probopass used to sand to hide itself. "That's a good strategy that Emma is using; have Probopass use the sand to keep itself from being seen" said Brock. Ash agreed. "Togekiss use aura sphere to try and find Probopass" said Princess Sylvia. Togekiss fired an aura sphere at the sand but it didn't Probopass at all, only the sand. This caused Princess Sylvia to lose points. "Probopass use power gem" said Emma. While still hiding in the sand, Probopass fired a power gem attack and the attack hit Togekiss directly before it could have a chance to dodge.
Things were not looking good for Princess Sylvia. Her points were getting lower and her Togekiss was getting hurt by the minute. It seemed she wasn't going to win after all and she was starting to doubt herself. 'Maybe I shouldn't have entered this contest after all' she thought. Suddenly Dawn stood up and spoke up. "You can't give up yet Dawn," she said, remembering not to call the princess by her real name, "remember you trained hard with Togekiss, and you can't stop doing your best till the very, very end". "Your highness, sit down please" said the butler, firmly. Ash, Brock and Tomo placed their hands on their face in disbelief. "For goodness sake Dawn you're going to give the game away" whispered Ash. "She's not doing well as a princess that's for sure" whispered Brock.
Hearing Dawn's words made the princess feel confident again and she ordered Togekiss to use aura sphere. The attack hit Probopass. "Probopass use discharge" said Emma. "Quick dodge it Togekiss" said Princess Sylvia. Togekiss dodged the discharge attack with grace. Probopass kept on firing discharge, but Togekiss kept on dodging the attack. Then Togekiss fired another aura sphere and Probopass got hit again. "If Princess Sylvia keeps this up she may win" said Brock. Brock turned out to be right in the end because after Togekiss gracefully dodged another of Probopass' discharge attack, Togekiss charged straight at Probopass with sky attack. Even though sky attack would have a huge disadvantage over Probopass because of it being a rock type, Probopass actually got knocked out by the attack.
And so Princess Sylvia and her Togekiss did win the Arrowroot Town pokemon contest. Everyone clapped and cheered for her, even Dawn did even though she wasn't supposed to. That of course made the butler not pleased with her. Princess Sylvia was very happy with her victory and was more delighted when she won the Arrowroot Ribbon.
After the pokemon contest was over, Ash, Brock and Tomo went back to the castle with Princess Sylvia. Dawn and Freesia were already back at the castle and in the princess's bedroom. Dawn and Princess Sylvia switched back into their own clothes at once. "Phew it was nice being dressed up as a princess but I'm glad to be back in my own self again" sighed Dawn. Seeing how hard it was to be a princess for a day, Dawn was going to appreciate her own life more. "Thank you Dawn and you two Ash, Tomo and Brock," said Princess Sylvia "thanks to you three I got to enjoy the experience of being in a pokemon contest". "It was our pleasure," said Brock "and you have your ribbon as a special memory of today". Princess Sylvia placed the Arrowroot ribbon in a beautiful looking box where she kept all sorts of precious items of hers in. She had to make sure no one else knew about her ribbon.
"Oh Dawn can I ask you special favour for me?" asked Princess Sylvia "I would appreciate it if you took Togekiss with you". "Huh? Take Togekiss with me?" said Dawn. "Correct," said Princess Sylvia "it is Togekiss' interest to go with somebody like you. As you will be in the grand festival I think it will be wonderful for Togekiss". "From what we saw in the contest Togekiss really likes to perform" said Ash. Dawn agreed and was delighted to take Togekiss in on her team. She also promised Princess Sylvia she would take good care of Togekiss.
Suddenly there was a knock on the door and the butler came in. The gang quickly said good bye to Princess Sylvia and left the castle. After the gang left the butler told Princess Sylvia that her etiquette today was unsatisfactory and she had to do better in the future. The princess simply smiled in understood. The butler had no idea what had happened today.
Today was a day the gang was never ever going to forget. They help a princess get into a pokemon contest and Dawn got her own Togekiss.
I am so, so sorry I haven't updated for nearly a year now. I started a new job last year and it has kept me very, very busy. And when it's my day offs I not seem to feel like writing due to just wanting to relax and not to anything till it's my new work shift. I will try to update again as soon as I can.
I never understood why they had Princess Sylvia give her ribbon to Jessie in the anime; in my opinion she should have just kept it as a reminder. I hope you like how I changed things with Butch and Cassidy against Bertha and how I changed Princess Sylvia challenger as Jessie wasn't in this.
