Chapter 1: Danger Zone
Confetti, and balloons were released into the air as the crowd erupted in applause as Japan's newest elected Prime Minister waved at the open crowd. Sesshomaru stood quietly on the edge of the room watching the spectral indifferently, his golden eyes shielded by darkened sunglasses as he scanned the room, watching the humans make a fool of themselves as they jumped up and down. He held back a scoff,and crossed his arms in front of his chest as the smell of sweat wafted through the air offending the dog demon's sensitive nose. The Prime Minister stood upon the podium with a sickly sweet smile plastered on his face, as he waved and greeted the cheering crowd; they spent months grooming the newest politician, and years trying to locate the proper candidate. Grooming them, and placing them in a seat of power; Miroku Sabo was the perfect person for the job; the young man was charismatic, charming and easily manipulated as long as they provided the gluttonous human with enough booze and women to sate his appetite.
Through Sesshomaru's years of watching the young human, and assisting in the shaping of their human shaped nuke; he had learned two things: one being that Mirkou could sell shit to a baby and two being that the human would rather spend all his time inside of a woman than anything else; which made him more than easy to control. If Sesshomaru had been a lesser man, he would have laughed at the sheer thought of the human's indecency but he was a demon of high standing and refused to debase himself. He watched Miroku waiting for the human to find him in the sea of humans; he kept his body rigid as the party continued, uptempo music blared through the speakers as the crowd continued to chant Miroku's name.
He watched Japan's newest member of parliament turn and walk toward the back podium; Sesshomaru turned on his heel and quietly moved towards the back area shield by heavy bright red curtains. His imposing body, and height allowed him to maneuver himself easily through the sea of fragile humans; he longed for the days of old when his life had been filled with promises of conquest and travel but times had changed and above all else he would always provide for his people, even if it meant conversing and working with humans.
Sesshomaru gently pulled the curtain and disappeared into the dark back room, he turned and saw Miroku smiling as he approached the dog demon. Sesshomaru removed his glasses, his golden slits beaming in the night.
"Akunin! My friend, lovely to see you here on this incredible night" Miroku said as he stood in front of the stoic demon
Sesshomaru arched an eyebrow and nodded "Congratulations Prime Minister, we must speak! Alone '' he said sternly, his eyes moving towards the two men standing behind the human.
Miroku nodded, and with a wave of his hand he dismissed the two security guards.
"Do you understand what your next moves are Sabo?" Sesshomaru said coldly
"My friend, loosen up a bit! We should be out there celebrating! Come let's find some girls to-" Miroku began before his back was slammed against the wall and Sesshomaru's clawed hand wrapped around his neck. The human gasped and groaned in pain as Sesshomaru pressed light on Mirkous windpipe.
Sesshomaru leaned forward, allowing his breath to cascade along the human's cheek. "I'm not your friend Sabo! You work for us, and we expect results! There will be no partying and no "girls" .DO YOU UNDERSTAND!" Sesshomaru said forcefully, as he snarled.
Mirkou nodded vigorously, and coughed as Sesshomaru removed his heavy hand. Sesshomaru pulled out a Handkerchief and whipped his hand irritatedly.
"Tell me what your next moves are?"
Mirkou rubbed his neck, and looked up at Sesshomaru with fear in his brown eyes "I'm too get close to the Police Commissioner, and the UN representative"
"Good! You have three weeks, Sabo" Sesshomaru said as he turned on his heel and walked away from the human. Sesshomaru stopped briefly, and said "do not disappoint" before he disappeared into the darkness .
Sesshomaru walked through the long hallway, and following the route that led to the back door, he pulled open the metal door and was greeted by the cold bitter winter air; he walked down the stairs, his shoes clanging against the metal. He looked down the alleyway and walked towards the sleek black car waiting at the end. He walked towards the car, caring not for his surroundings; he reached for the car door and pulled it open before sliding in. He pulled the door closed and looked over to the woman seated beside him, the demon was sitting quietly looking out the window, wrapped in a white fur mink coat.
"Mother" he said as the car began to move
Inukimi looked over at him, "How'd it go?" she asked, her molten eyes burning.
"Good, he understands his initiative" Sesshomaru said as he turned to look out the tinted window
Inukimi placed her hand on top of his, and said "Great work son; we must be on our way"
Sesshomaru frowned " Where are we going mother?"
Kimi said cooly "The council members have called a meeting"
Sesshomaru nodded, and returned his gaze to look out of the tinted window.
"Toga, it's a problem! More and more demons are being reported missing! We aren't sure if it's the hunters or Naraku" Kirnmaru said frustratedly, his seafoam eyes peering into golden ones.
Toga sighed as he pinched the bridge of his nose "Kirnmaru, we can't simply assume that it's the hunters and Naraku has never attacked his own. He's a slimy shifty bastard but he seems to focus his time on pumping the streets with drugs,"Toga said tiredly, as he stood in front of his old friend.
"Toga someone's doing it, and as a council member it's you job to look into these things" Kirnmaru pressed
"You are also a part of the council, Kirnmaru, why don't you look into it! I have other things on my mind" Toga sighed
Kirnmaru rolled his eyes, and crossed his arms as he shook his head. He turned his head, as the door opened revealing a small dainty human woman.
"My love, they've arrived" Izaoyi said smiling widely approaching Toga, her raven hair framing her youthful face. She approached the dog demon, and placed her hand atop of his chest; Kirnmaru sighed loudly as moved towards the door before disappearing into the manor.
Toga rested his forehead against Izayoi, earning a frown from his mate.
"What's wrong?" Izayoi asked concerned
He sighed " On top of the sudden influx of hunters patrolling the streets, and the impending vote. There's apparently a large amount of missing demon reports"
Izayoi nodded "One thing at a time, first the vote and then everything else! Everything will be fine, they'd be crazy not to vote for you my love. With Tsukuyomaru and Koga's support, you'll be fine"
"I hope they understand the importance of having a representative that can liaison with the human leaders. It's the only way we can finally have equality between the speciases" Toga said quietly, as he looked at his mate lovingly.
She smiled, and said "Have faith"
He kissed her cheek, and nuzzled his nose into her neck; her scent calming his nerves. He lightly nipped at the sensitive skin earning a breathy moan.
"Toga we don't have ah time for that" Izayoi said as lust sparked in her sweet brown eyes; her husband's teeth grazed her mating mark.
Toga chuckled, and lifted his head and said "Oh but I wish we did"earning a chuckle from his small mate. He took her hand softly, and led her out of the large room, he took a breath and opened the door revealing a symphony of voices. Toga walked through the hall of the manor leading towards a large open room revealing a large group of demons arguing; large burgundy curtains hung proudly covering the bay windows, shielding them from the moonlight. Intricate photographs stood proudly on the walls, as the warm light lit the large room; it was a stark difference from the grand hall in his western palace.
Oh the days of old, they would've gathered in a grand hall to plot their attacks, and organized battles but it had been many centuries since Toga's sword bleed red, and the horns of battle ripped through the sky. Now everything was settled by old men talking, he greeted the change with reverence and joy;even if some of his people could be increasingly difficult. He knew the path of peace, and equality were through them finding common ground with the humans; they still had a long way to go but if they'd simply unite under one leader, much of their ceaseless bickering would end and they could finally move forward.
"This latest stream of missing female demons is an act of war! We must destroy the hunters" a elder bear demon said haughty
"We must find a way to live in peace with the humans, it is the only way" Tsukuyomaru said sternly
"Oh please, you are hardly the voice of reason! Your judgment is clouded because of your choice of bed warmer" the elder bear demon spat
The bat demon rose from his seat, and faced the loud bear demon; his scowl deepened on his face as he towed over the demon elder.
"It would do you well to chose your next words carefully Tao" Tsukuyomaru said forcefully
"Enough" Toga said loudly, his voice booming through the room like a spear. He stood tall in front of the room full of bickering demons. His golden eyes scanned the space, as he said "It does us no good to be at each other's throats! We must stand united"
Tsukuyomaru nodded, and backed away from the oafish as he crossed his arms and stood beside his old friend.
"We've been fighting this battle for too long, friends! We cannot continue this way, we must find a way to co-exist peacefully" Toga said firmly
The former General peered into the eyes of the council members, and stood firm as he continued.
"We must persevere what we have left, and nurture humanity"
The room fell silent as he listened to the charismatic dog demon, as he watched them intensely.
"Why must we nurture lower life forms?" a tall dragon demon said, earning mutters of approval.
Toga shook his head, and said "That's the problem, you view them as less than we are but in truth they are beyond us. They are kind, caring and filled with goodness; they are opposite of us! They are filled with-"
"Greed, hatred and strife" a voice said causing everyone to turn as the owner of the voice entered the room. Izayoi bit her lip as she watched a familiar face cut themselves into the room; voices muttered lowly as many bent their heads in respect, and lowered their gaze as the scent of fear emanated from many.
"You've always chosen to see the best in these humans, however your refusal to their worst is what leads us into peril" Sesshomaru said coldly, his golden eyes hardened as he peered down at his father with a look of disgust; his mother following closely behind.
Tsukuyomaru looked at Sesshomaru softly, and said "We must have compassion for-"
Sesshomaru waved his hand, and cut the bat demon off "I do have compassion Tsukuyomaru, as does every demon in this room! We are all whole beings, however I refuse to believe that humans are better than us simply because they haven't been hardened by life"
The sound of agreement wafted through the room, as many demons nodded as Sesshomaru spoke.
"We all bleed, love and want! There are many differences between us and them but that isn't one of them! We have a right to agency, we have a right to live and exist. Their continuous charge of hunting us merely because we are different, ends now!"
Toga crossed his arms, and scolded "What plan do you have? Or did you merely come here to insight panic"
"Sesshomaru and Kimi are founding council members! They have a right to speak" Kirinmaru said
Kimi emerged from behind her son, and stared Toga straight in the eyes until the dog general brashly looked away. A small smirk tugged at her lips, as she walked into the middle of the room "It's lovely to see all of you on this beautiful night! Thank you Kirinmaru, as always such a gentlemen" she said teasingly, as a blush dusted his cheeks.
"Toga, while you and your loyal bat have been playing a giant game of circle jerk, my son and I have been plotting! Ever since the great war when you, and Tsukuyomaru led us into our greatest failure; we knew that your leadership would only result in more of us dying at the hands of those filthy beasts" Kimi said sternly, as many of her follow demons nodded in agreeance.
"And here I thought, you two were merely lords of the Tokyo underbelly" Toga said sternly
Kimi laughed " Oh you would think that! Although, it is true that my son and I rule over this city from the underground and up! However it was our planning and plotting that placed Miroku Sabo as Prime Minister, a human leader who is completely and utterly under our control"
Kirinmaru's eyes widened, as he moved closer to the small demoness "You own Mirkou Sabo?" he muttered breathlessly
Sesshomaru nodded, and said "Yes, and our next move is to have him befriend the police commissioner and UN representative! If all goes well, we will be recognized as intelligent species separate from humans;allowing us our own sovereignty and government by the end of the year"
Kirinmaru nodded, and said "I'm impressed"
"That won't work" Toga said harshly
Kimi clicked her tongue and raised her eyebrow as her ex husband continued.
"We must be united under one leadership, and join collectively with the humans" Toga said
Kimi slowly approached him, and halted before she reached his body; she looked up at him with a dangerous glint in her eye.
"Says the man blinded by whore who warms his bed? Toga I wouldn't trust you to lead us to the fucking pub" she spat, as she rolled her eyes and spun on her heel. She walked towards the door, and halted in the doorway.
"All those who wish to fight for our freedom and dignity, may follow me! We have much to discuss, as we plan our new world order! Oh and Toga, do stay out of our way. I'd hate for Sesshomaru to have to kill you" she said as she disappeared into the hall.
Sesshomaru scowled at Toga, and followed his mother out.
Kirinmaru bit his lip, and followed closely behind Sesshomaru.
"Kirinmaru!" Tsukuyomaru said, halting the dragon demon.
"Kimi has a plan, and I think it's time for new leadership," Kirinmaru said as he left the room. Several demons followed closely behind, leaving the wolfpack, Tsukuyomaru, Toga and his mate alone.
"Shit!" Toga said under his breath as his grasped the bridge of his nose
Sesshomaru watched as his mother delegated with the new council; she was a natural as she listened to their problems and worked with them to find felt a spark of pride, as his mother navigated the new waters set in front of them; her virtuosity as she stood in front of her former husband has been admirable. The coming months would be difficult, as he was sure his father wouldn't take defeat; however as always whenever he was in his father's presence he felt the familiar sting of abandonment and rejection. He had spent decades attempting to heal the wounds left by his father and his mask covered them well, the throbb in his chest was still there.
He hadn't frequented council meetings, he was normally out on a job; his mothers doing of course. She had always strived to protect him, and keep him and his father separate was one of her many tools in keeping him safe. Although he believed this were about to change, since they presented their plan to the council members, which would lead to Toga's immediate disapproval.
Toga always found something to be disappointed in, whenever it came to him.
"Moonbeam, come sit with me" Kimi's voice echoed through the room, bringing him back from his memories.
He pushed himself off the wall, and noticed many of them members had left; he walked over to his mother and sank down on the seat next to her before she handed him a glass containing amber liquid.
"It's whisky" she said, before he took a sip allowing a familiar burn to sting down his throat.
"Are you alright, my son?" she asked, as she allowed her head to tip backwards.
"I am fine mother" he added quickly, as his eyes watched the liquid swirl in his glass
"You do not need to hide your emotions from me, my pup" she said softly, as her hand laid softly on his knee
He hummed before he said , "It was difficult, I do not normally attend these meetings so our interactions are limited. It was taxing seeing that he is still the same bigoted self rightious prick he has always been"
Kimi nodded, and said "I understand, my son. It was not easy for me either, but we are strong and I'm immensely proud of the man you have become"
Sesshomaru sighed, as he leaned his head onto her shoulder.
"What is that Kirinmaru wanted to speak with you about?" Sesshomaru said
Kimi said quickly "There have been several demonesses missing in the last few months, and nor Toga or Tsukuyomaru have done anything about it! Kirinmaru fears for his sisters safety"
"Does their bias know no bounds?" Sesshomaru seethed
Kimi laughed, and said "It appears that if it's not a human cunt, Toga is simply uninterested! Will you investigate this issue, Sesshomaru?"
Sesshomaru nodded, and said "Of course mother, I will follow your orders without question"
Kimi smiled, and held her pup close as they sat quietly in the mansion they built with their own two hands. It had been difficult getting here; having a place they called their own without anyone to answer too. She'd done many things she wasn't proud of, things she wouldn't dare utter to a soul even to her son. After Toga had abandoned her for that human wench, she had been left to fend for herself and care for their young pup. She became ruthless as she built an empire and raised a perfect warrior, assassin and diplomat. This new victory has been decades in the making, and now with the council behind her, she was on her way to more victories.
She simply had to affirm the loyalty, and prove her worth as a leader; her gaze fell to her son as his eyes slid closed. Her heart broke for her pup; she had never wanted a life filled with pain and hardships for her son, she had longed for the perfect family but alas these were the cards she had been dealt by the fates and she kept playing until she was out of moves entirely.
She touched his head, and hummed a familiar tune as the world drifted away.
They were so close to their goal, and she refused to stop now.
New story alert! I've finally gotten my creative juices flowing. lol I hope you folks, like the new story.
