When an unfortunate night at the tavern results Arthur and Merlin being seemingly permanently separated, Arthur is left to try to struggle on with the assistance of his knights. The knights are torn between helping their Prince and at the same time battling their own grief. They all are afraid of how this story could end, for him and for each other.

Lancelot is chuckling then, however, the most sober of them all, other than Merlin, and Arthur's attention is caught on him, head whipping and eyes moving reluctantly from Merlin to Lancelot, his muddled thoughts answered before he can sort through them enough to wonder anything aloud. "It's love, Arthur," he says, "You're... in love with Merlin."

It seemed as if it was the root of his existence; as if it was nothing but raw instinct to protect that which made him whole. Perhaps it because it was such a deeply ingrained part of him, more so than it is beyond simple comprehension, that it was possible for it to be passed down. Destinies are indeed curious things.
