Uther has accused Merlin of sorcery and sentenced him to death. There is nothing Arthur can do as he watches from his chambers where he has been locked as his servant is tied to the pyre and it is set ablaze. But Arthur loses consciousness before he can watch Merlin burn and is woken up in the morning by...Merlin? What is going on?

A glimpse of an evening where Merlin tells Arthur why he loves him.

Set in a future where Britain has devolved into chaos under the 'rule' of Uther Pendragon, Merlin is travelling around, trying to stay under the radar and stay alive, when he meets the golden haired Arthur Pendragon, disinherited son of Uther. This chance meeting could change his life. (Based on the song 'Bat Out of Hell' by Meat Loaf. Some lyrics have been shamelessly lifted.)

Arthur notices how Merlin keeps starring at Mordred, and isn't very pleased about it.

Arthur knew his father's decision to have him head up the New York division of Pendragon Pharmaceuticals wasn't a good one, but it's not until he finds himself in a convenience store being held up at gunpoint that he realises quite how bad it is.

Merlin and Arthur have grown closer since the death of the deceased King, Uther, passed away. And Arthur has come to wonder yet again if he knows his friend at all. While out hunting, the boys have a run in with an old enemy and find themselves separated from the rest of the knights. Secrets will be revealed, And old wounds re-opened. Arthur has known for a long time, but doesn't quite know how to approach Merlin about it. So the king kept quiet. But when a sudden loss at Camelot's heart shakes Merlin into extreme instability, Arthur must help Merlin find his sanity, otherwise, Morgana will find a way back into Camelot.

When it comes to Arthur, Merlin has always taken whatever he can get.

He knew he had done some questionable things in the past, knew he probably deserved for a terrible thing or two to happen to him in his life but this—this was just cruel. Like the Fates were laughing at him, enjoying his misery.

After Merlin reveals his magic accidentally to save Arthur's life, Arthur doesn't take it very well and hands Merlin over to the first bandits they come across. When Uther dies Arthur and Merlin's eldest son begins to read his grandfather's journals and soon wishes he hadn't as what he reads causes upset and problems amongst them all...

Arthur is just fine with the way his relationship with Merlin is, thank you very much. He's fine being flatmates, fine being friends—occasionally. So why does Merlin have to ruin it by looking so very attractive in nothing but a pair of Arthur's boxers? Why does he have to ruin the way Arthur looks at him, the way he thinks about him? Why does Merlin have to ruin things?

For some reason, I don't think Merlin would have taken his first time in prison seriously. Set in the first episode. Crack.

Arthur has been making plans

Whether or not they always admit it, Merlin and Arthur are best friends. Circumstances drive them both from their home, Camelot, and the boys realize they are no longer divided by the boundaries of status. For the first time in their lives, they can truly be friends.

Because Arthur always knew what he was talking about. Especially at two in the morning, after so many beers and a few shots of something Gwaine liked to partake in whenever he was feeling particularly stupid. And hey, Gwaine knew of a tattoo shop that stayed open well into the night and could do exactly what Arthur wanted done…
