An attack leads Arthur, the knights and Merlin on a quest to find the person responsible. Along the way they make new friends and enemies, learn about themselves and each other and find out that there are things that come from far beyond the Old Religion.

Arthur goes to tell Merlin something, and finds him and Gaius in the middle of something that Arthur hadn't thought of until now.

Arthur never realised what he had, until it is no longer with him. Merlin struggles to deal with the loss of Freya all over again, and for once, he needs Arthur to be there for him, no matter what they might face together.
