In the summer of 1994, Nymphadora Tonks receives extra training from Alastor Moody before he begins his year as DADA professor at Hogwarts. The training culminates in a major change of events in late August. Changes cascade from this major change across the rest of 1994. Six chapters are planned. No ships and not really any Harry.

Report! / &&^^&& SCENE CHANGE

Nymphadora Tonks watched for one minute as the wizard who'd consumed the Polyjuice screamed and withered through multiple transformations of different parts of his body. The short wizard was mesmerized, the baby was screaming in frustration, and even the snake was watching the wizard on the floor scream through the changes in his body.

Back in her natural form, Dora Tonks resembled her aunt, Bellatrix Lestrange, enough to be her twin. Her mother and father encouraged Dora to hide that fact with her bubblegum hair colors and slightly different cheekbones. Now, she used her metamorphic abilities to play chameleon. Her figure blended perfectly with the dirty walls, furniture, and shadows in the room. With her second, hidden wand in her hand, Auror Nymphadora Tonks (Probationary) struck.

The snake was decapitated with a single, powerful Diffindo. A second, equally powerful Diffindo struck the smaller wizard, cutting off his forearms as well as the baby's legs. The snake's torso flung itself around the room, and the wizard in Polyjuice pants continued to howl with the pain of the transformations that would not cease, while the other wizard and the baby cried out in shock and pain.

Dora cast Expelliarmus to summon all the wands in the room. She caught five wands in the air and begin triage. Her prisoners had to live to be questioned by the DMLE.

At that moment, Alastor Moody and Auror Proudfoot burst through the door. Without any questions, Alastor stupefied the screaming wizards and baby. Proudfoot followed up the retired Auror's spells with tourniquet spells on the bleeding appendages. Dora, once again with her bubblegum-colored hair, didn't hesitate to cast Incarcerous at the two injured wizards.

Moody kept his wand on the screaming wizard while Nymphadora cast silencing spells on the captives. Then, Proudfoot screamed when the head of the snake at his feet continued to snap at the air with long fangs. Instinctively, the Auror banished the head into the wall hard enough to embed it there.

"Report!" demanded Moody.

"Sir, I woke here about five minutes ago," Dora stated clearly. The adrenalin of the afternoon continued to power her magic. "The kidnappers left me alone because they assumed I was unconscious and disabled without the peg leg and mechanical eye.

Motioning toward the wizard continuing to experience the transformation of different body parts, she explained, "The others called him 'Barty'. He took some of my hair and put it into what he said was Polyjuice. As soon as he drank it, his body began to change into many different shapes and things I have used in the past."

"Merlin," Proudfoot interrupted Dora. He pointed at the short wizard and declared, "This is Peter Pettigrew."

"Shut it, Proudfoot," Moody ordered and the other Auror fell silent, fearful of what this event would lead to before the end of the day.

Tonks continued her report. "I gauged the threat level of each opponent and knew I didn't stand a chance against two wizards and the snake, but when Barty fell to the ground, even the snake couldn't take its eyes off the man's transformations. That's when I struck, cutting off the head of the snake first and the other wizard's arms.

Moody observed, "You injured the kid."

"He…it talks like an adult with an unnatural voice that doesn't belong to a child," Tonks replied. "Why would two wizards and a giant snake be carrying a baby around? And if you look at it…that's not a natural child."

Moody's Patronus of an English Bulldog sped away with a message to Scrimgeour. Within five minutes, a dozen Aurors apparated into the yard and moved the injured wizard and baby back to the Ministry.

Moody and Scrimgeour agreed that the other wizard who continued to transform into different shapes and things couldn't be moved until the Polyjuice wore off. Tonks was adamant that she'd remain on the scene until the man's transformations ended.

"This started when he helped kidnapped me," she reminded the two men. In the dirty room, Tonks found paper, muggle pens, and a relatively clean surface where she began her after-action report.

&&^^&& SCENE CHANGE

When the wizard in Polyjuice pants began to return to his normal body, Alastor Moody stared at him without blinking. Then he turned to Tonks and asked about the man's name again. She replied, "They called him 'Barty' before he took the potion."

Moody began cursing under his breath and cast several spells at the man. Scrimgeour who was about to return to London asked, "Alastor, what's the problem."

Leaning close to the Head Auror, Moody whispered, "This is Barty Crouch, Jr. who was reported to be dead in Azkaban thirteen years ago. How did he escape and stay healthy? The warden provided a memory to confirm the body they threw into the North Sea was Barty Crouch, Jr."

Scrimgeour frowned, "I'll go arrest Crouch Sr. and update the director."

"We have to move quickly here Rufus to stay ahead of Fudge and Malfoy."

"Malfoy?"

Moody tried to smile which was a scary sight before he said, "Peter Pettigrew is alive. The left-arm Tonks left on the wizard bears the dark mark. He's a dead Death Eater so we can pump him full of veritaserum and ask lots of questions about taking the dark mark. Malfoy and the others lied all those years ago. Bones – and you – can benefit from correcting the travesty of injustice with their escape from Azkaban."

Nodding his head as he saw himself in the minister's office before Halloween, Scrimgeour ordered two Aurors to accompany him back to London.

As they walked across the yard, the Head Auror said, "Marshal and Hennessy, as soon as we enter the ministry, go find Barty Crouch, Sr., and arrest him. Lock him in a secure cell that requires the presence of me or Director Bones to open. No questions and no hesitation. If he fights, put him down with cutting charms."

Once Scrimgeour apparated away, Moody sent his Patronus out again and Tonks heard the message the retired Auror sent to Unspeakable 23.

He turned to Tonks and directed her to disappear. "Lass, hide in a corner before the Department of Mysteries arrives. I don't want them to consider you as a study subject."

Without any argument, Nymphadora Tonks stepped backward into the shadows once again and used her chameleon abilities to become part of the wall. The Unspeakable arrived in the room with something that didn't look like an apparition.

"What do you have...?" the figure began asking before he saw the trembling wizard who still had an arm changing between a horse's foreleg and a tree limb. One leg turned into an octopus appendage and then into a table leg.

Stepping closer to the wizard, the unspeakable summoned the potion bottle and sniffed the contents.

"Polyjuice mishap?"

"No, Polyjuice using the hair of my protégé who was already under Polyjuice as me."

"The metamorphic witch from the Black family?"

Nodding without making a comment, Moody waited while the Unspeakable summoned the remaining hairs that had brought about the metamorphic cascade in the man. The wizard from the Department of Mysteries asked, "Who is this wizard?"

"Years ago, he was known as Barty Crouch, Jr."

The unspeakable grumbled and said, "The DOM will be unable to hide him and experiment."

"That's why I called you this afternoon. I can give him into your care for twelve hours but then the Director…" Moody explained.

"No, take him to Bones first. The DOM doesn't want to get on the Director's bad side. She'll let us experiment on him tonight after she's questioned him."

"He's a pureblood."

The unspeakable shook his head, "This man died thirteen years ago in Azkaban. This wizard doesn't exist, so we can pour veritaserum down his throat from now until the day we throw him through the veil."

Levitating the potion bottle and the hair into separate evidence bags, that he handed to Moody, the Unspeakable nodded and vanished as easily as he'd appeared.

&&^^&& SCENE CHANGE

The DMLE resembled an ant hill that had been knocked over by a passing boot. Aurors scurried about, carrying papers from one office to another. There were no civilians in the hallway when Moody led Tonks back from the Atrium.

Director Bones appeared at the end of the hall, her hands on her hips as she watched Alastor approach with his trainee levitating the wizard with a gag in his mouth and three layers of ropes wrapped around him.

"Interesting afternoon, Moody?" Amelia Bones asked casually.

Attempting to grin, Moody replied, "Very interesting Director."

"Bring him in here. I want our healers to check him out and put him under some sleeping spell," Bones said, pointing at a secure room. "I want to talk to Pettigrew first and then little monster."

"The DOM wants to play with this one some," Moody said holding up the evidence bags with the potion bottle and hair.

The director frowned but said, "We'll reverse the order then. We'll question Crouch, Jr, then we'll question Crouch, Sr. And I've already had one Auror collapse because he wanted to sell the story to the Daily Prophet."

"Can the baby kill?"

"No. Dawlish's magical core smacked him hard for violating his oath from 1986 when he became an Auror. He'll be in Saint Mungo's for a month recovering. I'll decide his future when he is released…if his magic comes back," Bones explained clearly so that everyone in the hall heard her. "And until I say otherwise, no one outside this department can whisper a word of this afternoon to anyone."

&&^^&& SCENE CHANGE / August 24, 1994

At midday, Amelia was certain she had complete stories from Barty Crouch, Sr., most of the story from Crouch, Jr., a never-ending tearful plea from Peter Pettigrew to be released and allowed to leave. The Unspeakables collected the homunculus baby and Crouch, Jr. late in the morning. Unspeakable 23 promised to keep both study subjects alive and they would return them for trial when requested.

Peter attempted to escape by turning himself into his rat Animagus form, but the stumps of his arms translated over into his rat form. The Auror guards sealed the door of his cell against rats and the Director came to see the form lying on the floor.

There was little pity in anyone's heart for the rat – his story had been shared around the department – and Director Bones ordered the kiss-on-sight order against Sirius Black canceled.

There was a meeting in the director's office where Bones, Scrimgeour and Moody plotted their strategy to take several Death Eaters into custody as soon as possible.

Scrimgeour asked, "Where can we capture them without a big fuss?"

"Could we take 'em when they come for the Wizengamot?"

Bones shook her head, "No one can touch any member when they come in purple robes. If they break a law while in the chamber, then I can authorize an Auror to take them into custody."

Tonks who sat in the back of the office was thinking, 'So the Ministry for Magic has Unspeakables and Untouchables. Wait…what about?'

"Excuse me, ma'am, sirs, but the perfect venue occurs tomorrow night," said Tonks as she interrupted the conversation. "The Quidditch World Cup is tomorrow night. All the bigwigs will be there. We'll be providing security for Minister Fudge and these people will be coming to visit. When they leave, an Auror can pop them away with a portkey. When their family reports them being missing, we can investigate and call on any wizards or witches we missed."
