What if THE ROOKIE was based on one of Rick Castle's books? PWP (Plot? what plot? ) Just a ficlet

A Caskett first-meet story/A Castle Ficathon Winter 2021 entry: It's Kate Beckett's job to recognize connections and to bring people together because of them. It's a job she's successful at, one she loves. When it comes to connections in her own life, however, like the one she recognizes she has with stranger Rick Castle, things are a bit more complicated.

Kate is forced to take a vacation to relax. But some friends show up with a problem and off Kate, Rick and Alexis go.

Castle seems to be facing rough edges in his life. All changes when he rescues a woman from two men trying to attack her. Castle realizes the woman has also had a rough life and decides to get to know her better. Rated for language and a brief violence involving a sexual assault.

This one-shot AU story is from my Emma & Eli Universe. It's Rick's 43rd birthday, and he is feeling ancient. Kate and the kids work to bring him out of his funk and help him enjoy his memorable day, especially Emma! (A follow-up story for "Birthday Girl").
