Maybe I don't wanna know the way home...
Dark waves crashed harshly, being pushed by the overly warm breeze. She had not meant to be at the beach at dark, but that's where her path had led her. Alone, in the darkness of night. The stars looked a blur through her tear-filled eyes. Part of her wanted to scream in pain and agony, another part wanted to be downright angry, and that anger was pointed at more than one party. But if she was being totally honest, she was a bit relieved but back to that place of insecurity. Why couldn't she just be happy being alone? Why did her emotions have to come so easily? Damn if she didn't try.
Why did that jackass always have to be right?
Tears rolled down her cheek as she took in a deep breath, trying to calm herself. But it's like fate loved testing her. Her phone buzzed. She answered without even looking; she knew who it was, and honestly, she needed a quick detraction.
"Hello," She tried to sound normal, but she knew it wasn't going to get by him; nothing ever did. On his end, the phone sounded loud as the wind blew against it. He knew instantly where she was.
"Why do you pin your hopes on something utterly hopeless? Do you enjoy pain Miko?" He was beginning to think she did.
She bit her lip, oh, she could start an argument, but she decided to throw him a curve ball and respond in a way he would not expect; after all, she was doing all sorts of crazy stuff things tonight. "Tell me what to do,"
"I do not enjoy repeating myself miko, and you, like a pup, do not listen."
"I'm not a pup"
"Where are you?" He knew, but this was her punishment,
Tears rolled down her face; this was his I told you so moment.
"Screw you,"
"If you wish,"
"Sesshomaru!" Now was really not the time, all joking aside.
He wanted to sigh. It was late; she was a thousand miles away; what did she think? He was going to save her. No. Not this time.
"I told you not to go, Miko,"
"I loved him."
"Pathetic,"
She was feeling so; he didn't have to rub salt in the wound.
"You miko love the idea."
"I loved him," She whispered,
"You loved that he is with her almost every moment that you are not under him?"
He was met with silence,
"As I have stated before Miko, he is not meant for you, you are not meant for him, and his instincts told him this long ago, but we all know he is but a mere pup child such as you are and thus not man enough to tell you so, yet I have done so for him and for your benefit many times over, and yet you refused to listen to me and are now met with the outcome, I told you not to go,"
"Why do you even care," Her voice told him he had won; she was defeated.
"Do not mistake this as caring Miko for I do not care about either of your personal matters nor your feelings,"
"Why did you even call me then?"
"Because you are my assistant, need I remind you that your job never ends and comes before your personal life? Was this not what we agreed?"
She had, but at the time, she thought she would be marrying his brother, and thus this would never be an issue. Well, now it was an issue.
"Perhaps," She started as she looked up at the moon, which glowed brother against the angry ocean, "Perhaps we need to update the agreement,"
"Come home Miko for I will not come fetch you this time," And that would suggest he cared.
He had come to her aid once when Inuyasha was too stupid with his lies to keep up and left her pretty much stranded in New York on New Year's eve.
"Home," She repeated.
She dug her toes into the cold sand and closed her eyes.
"Kagome," He said her name, "Plane, home, now."
God, why did he always have to be right?
"It is not love, miko; love is not cruel," He had no idea why he said it, but he did.
"Well, that explains a lot about you,"
"Enough,"
"What do you know about it anyway," Emotions were boiling again,
"I know you are letting your emotions run you,"
"Oh, so should I be like you? Cold, uncaring, cruel?"
"Cruel would be to lie to you; I have never lied to you, Miko," He was going to give it to his brother; this little game was over because he was tired of it.
"Im just supposed to be ok? Act like it didn't happen?" She could keep it in inside and cry herself to sleep at night till it didn't burn anymore.
"Start looking before you leap, and perhaps you wouldn't get burned,"
She wanted to throw her phone into the dark sea,
"Call it whatever you want Miko, but do not fool yourself any longer by calling it, love,"
Why was he always right? Perhaps that's why she was a little relieved. It was finally over, finished, sealed, no going back.
No going back.
"Goodnight Sesshomaru,"
"Do you know how to get home? I will send the plane," He would do that for her; it was the least he could do after what his brother had just done.
She half smiled but did not speak another word to him. Instead, she hung up, looked out to the sea, and tossed the phone. She would stay on that beach and, instead of fearing the wild waves and darkness, embrace the moon's light as it danced across the unforgiven sea. She let the warm sea breeze dry her eyes, and the sound of it all made her feelings drunk and calm.
Did she know the way home?
Perhaps she didn't want to.
The plane would come, but she didn't get on.
