Sherlock Holmes has always prided himself on being without 'emotion.' He has found a complication in his theory with his traitorous desire for Molly Hooper. He knows that he must keep his feelings hidden for fear of them leading Molly into danger, even if that means breaking her heart. Title is from the song I Can't Make You Love Me by Bonnie Raitt

This is an alternate version of the scene at the hospital in The Lying Detective. In this version Culverton Smith's attempts at suffocating Sherlock have progressed to a point where it may already be too late for John to save the detective.

"Mycroft stumbles backwards, and the gun falls to the floor. Sherlock spares Eurus a fleeting glance, and sees something he doesn't recognize in her eyes. John isn't looking at him. He's looking down at his own hand pressed to his side, his fingers are sticky and stained in crimson." *It's not the three Garridebs John need be concerned with. It's just the one Holmes with the gun.*
