Prologue [Somewhere Else]
The triple goddess muses….
Supports…how central they are. Stone, Wood and Brick hold up structures. Rock lined ways keep your wheels from sinking into the mud. A chain is no stronger than its weakest link. Interconnections prove vital between all beings. These groups bring about thinking and concepts of identity. Your mortal groups rely on these things at all levels be it families, tribes and governance. My priests and priestesses relay my wishes and your prayers.
That is true no matter what the grouping or person. In the Pendragons' Camelot, we see all of the connections therein. Arthur Pendragon has told his neighbor, Rodor of Nemeth, that his kingdom is nothing without its friends. Alas! If only he and his sire's elder mortals would realize that I wish to be their friend as well if they would stop murdering my people and spitting on me. I would be his support as well. The Purge forces my people's hand and action.
Merlin of Ealdor…or as I call him Emrys…is a question in this regard. Who is he really? Is he the peasant from Ealdor? Is he the Younger Pendragon's servant, chamberlain and protector? Is he the last Dragon Lord? Is he all of these things? Or was there something else meant for this mortal? Before his death, Balinor revealed to Emrys how Uther drove him into hiding in Cenred's kingdom. These options were hanging before himself. Still, even as he tried to balance both sides, Emrys drifted away from me as Gaius had a generation earlier. His misinterpretation of Prophecy and misplaced loyalty led him to favor Camelot over me. He who should have been my support became the Pendragons' instead. He allowed their sacrilege to continue. Still, what if Emrys did not have these loyalties? What if his sense of self was removed and then rebuilt? What decision would he make then? How would his sense of identity and choice align then?
Uther shaped Emrys in various ways. Arthur's friendship keeps him in lockstep. Yet what if Morgana Pendragon shook Emrys? And there is another who could set him on another path as well….
Supports…which direction will they send him on? Read and see….
