41: The Showoff
Superhero Fanfic or Original
Young decisions suck, eh?
Now, here I am, a mere fifteen-year-old, and I know that better than anyone.
Why is one so young so old-sounding and wise? Well, that is tied to my secret. Ten years ago, I wasn't the more reserved, observational person I am today. No, rather, I was, dare I say, FLAMBOYANT! I was lively, vivacious… and a showoff. Hence my opining.
You see, a few years back (when I was seven) I went through something somewhat traumatic. Oh, it wasn't damning, but it wasn't great, either. In the process, I developed a split personality, long since fixed… and superpowers.
I am a super. Yes, they are real. Or at least, I assume they are. To date, I haven't seen any but myself, but if there is one, and literature about others… well, smoke and fire, and all that. Then again, I am in a small town, and my parents are… SUPER old immigrants with deep distrust from their time in communist Russia, so maybe I am just living under the proverbial rock? Who knows!
I bet you are wondering what kind of powers I got, right. Yeah, I actually lucked out and got two sets. One set was more… observational, based around mental acuity, perceptiveness, and learning and creating knew things. I call it the Wallflower persona. It grows consistently as I use it, but it is gradual. True, it is nice, but… well, in a pinch, I have a back-up. Something to really blow my opponents away. It has also grown slowly, but it runs on a different fuel from my passive set, which are just a part of how my body works, now. They… well, I am subdued now, so I don't care to use it too much.
My Show-Off powers. And yes, the more I show off, the stronger they get. What do they do? I can use them, and showing off, to teleport, move at extreme speeds, perform feats beyond the human norm… and make my concepts reality. For example, INVINCIBLE forms a chestplate, armor, a shield, or a tank or wall, while COMFORTABLE creates well-made clothes, a nice chair or bed, and temperature regulation. I have so far managed to fuel my powers with YouTube videos (I managed to get the ability to post, but not view, through a bit of careful hacking) of me doing various things, and I am a well-known international problem solver (Send me a pic, I'll send you an answer!) in my Wallflower persona by using a local, and very shady, broker, but something in my life is changing.
I am writing this down for one reason and one reason only. My family has been looking to move ever since my… incident. We are moving to New York. When I get there, I am going to try and play hero. As a literal reality warper who has managed to build the words SAFE and PROTECTED into everything I and my folks own, I should be okay… but I worry. I am about to step out onto the big stage. My folks might be unkillable and unfindable, but I am going to become important.
Nah! Who'm I kidding? Grandstand is gonna take the big stage! Watch how I do it, ya'll!
Can be humor, or darker, to the user's preference. I see it as humor, myself, though this tidbit seem to be a bit dimmer. POV writing really messes up a story's tone. Like, for REAL!
