The next day, Luz was trying to get the mermaids to eat, but naturally, she didn't know what mermaids ate.
"I don't understand this, what do mythical creatures eat?!" Luz said in frustration.
She got up and pulled out her phone. If there was anyone that could tell her about mythical creatures, it would be her cousin. In another part of Graves Field, a blonde man in a suit answered.
"Caleb Wittebane, owner of Wittebane Bookstore, how may I help you?" He asked.
"Hi, Uncle, it's Luz." Luz said.
"Ah, Luz, it's always a pleasure to speak with you." Caleb said, "How may I help you?"
"I was wondering if Hunter was there. I need his help with something."
"Give me a moment." Caleb said.
Hunter was something of a bookworm, if there was something you needed to know, he probably knew it. After a minute, Hunter answered.
"So, I was told you needed some information." Hunter said.
"Hi, Hunter, I was wondering if you knew anything about... mermaid feeding habits." Luz said.
"Feeding habits for a mermaid? Not the weirdest thing I've been asked." He said, "Well, from one of the books I found, it said they like things like kelp, coral, and other sea plants, along with a large variety of schooling fish."
"Schooling fish?" Luz asked.
"Yeah, you know what I mean, you work in an aquarium. Fish like Tuna, Snappers, Marlin, stuff like that."
Luz thought about it. They typically have those types of fish in the freezer for the sharks and other types of predatory animals.
"Alright, thanks Hunter." Luz said.
Luz hung up the phone and ran to the freezer. She grabbed one of the trays of Tuna and carried it back to the tank.
"Alright, they don't like squid, salmon, trout, or anything like that, so let's see if this works." Luz said.
She picked up one of the fish by the tail and held it out over the tank. After a minute, a splash was heard and the Shark bit the fish. She fell back in the water with the fish in her sharp teeth. Luz laughed at this.
"Alright!" She said, "Now we're getting somewhere."
Luz held out another one and the Betta jumped out and caught it. Luz smiled at how good she was getting with this.
"I do wonder how there's a book about this." Luz said, "Maybe those pirates from the old days were right on something."
Luz went to the lower level and watched them tear into the fish. The Shark swallowed it whole like a shark would, while the Betta one would shake her fish in her mouth, ripping it into small pieces before swallowing the pieces, almost like a fish you'd feed in your fish tank. Luz noted this down on her clipboard and noticed something on the Shark that made her chuckle.
"Well, now I know where Vee's hairclips went." Luz said, "Alright, I should go give them more fish before talking to mom and dad about their medical treatment."
Luz went back up to the Observation deck and watched them swim.
