Luz walked onto the observation deck and watched the mermaids swim. She watched them move freely in the water, nothing stopping them, moving through the water like a bird flying in the sky. Luz looks at them and wonders what it would be like to move like that, to feel free. Her thoughts were interrupted by her radio.

"Luz, we need you to get them into the side tank, so we can use the Tricaine Methosulfonate to sedate them and get the vets to see the extent of their injuries." Philip said.

Luz grabbed her radio and held it up to her mouth.

"Got it, dad."

Luz put her radio back on her belt and went over to open the side tank. They use it for when they have a more aggressive animal while taking care of another animal. In the water, the two mermaids noticed something opening in the tank. They decided to check it out. They swam towards it and Luz closed the entrance to the tank. Luz began to pour the powdered sedative into the water and the mermaids began to get very tired. They fell asleep and began to float to the water surface.

"Alright, they're out." Luz said into her radio, "I don't know how long a mermaid can go without water, so let's get going."

The handful of vets, including Camila, came in and pulled the two fish girls out of the water. Luz had the water drain so the sedative could be cleared out. They brought the mermaids to a secured vet facility they had and put them on two tables.

"Let's hurry up, we don't know the length a mermaid can be out of water or what possible effects it can have on one." Camila said, "Team one will be handling the shark one, while I will work with team two on the Betta one."

The vets got to work, finding several injuries in each of them. Some of the injuries were minor scrapes that can be healed within a few days. Other's... we bad. X-Rays showed that the Betta one had a few broken ribs and the Shark one... well, the shark had a normal skeleton for her upper half, but her lower half was cartilage, just like a normal shark. Thankfully, they found the reason she looked so hurt while swimming. At the point her skeleton and cartilage skeleton meet, there is a part that is made of both bone and cartilage, they found that the bone had cracked, most likely due to being knocked around during the storm that got them stuck in the river.

"Alright, the severe injuries are mostly on the human part of their bodies, so we'll treat it as a human injury, but adjust it so that it works while they're in the water." Camila said, "For now, focus on the small injuries, while a few of us work on this girl's tail."

Camila looked at the betta's tail, seeing several parts that rocks has ripped at the tail. Camila had a way to help. She knew that most fish could heal from this, but in her youth, she would watch Philip try and make a cream that would help large fish with this same problem. It was meant for fish like marlin and things like that, but it might work of this girl. Before she could try it, something was going on with the other one.

"Mrs. Wittebane, we're having a situation!" A vet said.

Camila rushed over and looked at the shark girl, moving erratically.

"Is she having a seizure?!" One asked.

"I... I don't know." Camila said, "She may not be able to breath!"

Before they could get water or anything to help, the mermaid... became a human. The vets were stunned, all but Camila, who put a blanket over the girl. Without her scales, she was completely naked. Camila was quick, as soon the other girl went through the same thing. Both mermaids began breathing normally before opening their eyes. They looked and saw feet sticking out of the blankets and began to hyperventilate. They looked around, and all but flung themselves at Luz, who was near the tables. Luz was surprised... very surprised.
