Check me out at Royal Road or Wattpad for original work. My penname is MikaMathews.

This magic system is really fun to play with, I have to admit. I just wish it was less vague.

"So... Fairytales are realm, magic is real, and Emma is the Savior of a Dark Curse cast by the Evil Queen to render you all without a happy ending bar her and her teacher Rumplestilkskin?"

The Blue Fairy nodded, a smirk on her face. "It's a lot to take in, I know... but that is the long and short of it."

"Cool... I guess that makes sense. I cannot really argue, I did see actual magic teleporting me so why argue against this. So... when are you teaching me magic?"

She gaped. "Huh?"

"When are you teaching me magic, I mean I plan on staying and magic exists here now... so why not? Plus being untied to bloodlines or past feuds, I can be impartial when you all cannot. Let me become a witch, and I'll help keep this place safe. Consider it my rent for staying here."

She sighed. "I cannot really argue against that... I guess I can try to teach you, see where you lie as a practitioner." She smiled. "There are Four Types of magic users. Those born to the craft and can use it immediately or with little training, they are among the strongest. Those with a spark but need intense training to master their gifts, like Regina. Those blessed with or made from magic, like the Dark ones or Faries like myself. We are always rather strong, but our powers are limited by the blessing. In my case, it is through my wand or other such things. Lastly, there are people like you, without the craft as a part of them. You are pure effort, having to learn to connect to magic and tap into it from scratch.

Your road will not be easy, knowing that, do you still wish to practice?"

He beamed. "Magic is everything I have ever wanted, even as a kid. I am always up for it."

"Then we will get started immediately." She twisted her hand and a book appeared, she winked at his stunned expression. "I cannot use much magic without my wand, but some is possible. Some minor feats, mostly for show. Now, shall we begin?" She opened her book and waved her hand. A layer of words, in a language he could not read, lifted from the page. "Breath in these words, through your nose, and it should jumpstart the magical sensitivity in you." She waved her hand and the words flew toward him.

Bracing himself, he breathed in the words and power shot through him, like cold lightning, exploding through every facet of his being. Mind, body and soul. He gasped, and the magic released. "That was incredible."

The Blue Fairy nodded. "I imagine it was, for someone who is so new to magic. Now that you've eaten, and gained some magic, let's go to the convent. It would be safer for you to practice the craft there." Together they stood and left, with Daniel to practice magic for the first time. It took about thirty minutes of walking to get to the Convent, a massive structure of marble. When they got in, Blue led him to a brazier that was empty of fire. "Magic is an emotional endeavor, you must focus on why you are doing something. Dark practitioners focus on hate and pain, so as a light one you must focus on love and empathy. Who are you seeking to protect and why?"

Focusing hard, on the power from before, Daniel let his mind wander for a minute with only one being worthy of his protection crossing his mind. The moment he made the connection power surged through him and fire burned in this brazier. Soft and small, but fire nonetheless.

"I did it!"

She nodded, clapping softly. "Very, very good. An excellent start. Now, I am sure you've noticed how tired you are?" He nodded, feeling a wave of exhaustion."Why don't you practice by reading books. It's half elfish, but there is a spell to translate it into English so you can understand the principle and rules of magic. It will also educate you on plants and other subjects used in the craft. While you do that, I will arrange for you to have a place to stay for the night and food to eat. We can't have you starving now, can we?"

"No ma'am... and thank you, for all you've done."

She just nodded and moved away, stopping at the doorway. "What do you imagine for your spell, what did you focus on?"

"Protecting myself, as I have always done. I have no one else to protect so far, so it made sense."

"I see,... a wise choice."

Chapter end, tell me what you think in the reviews.

This was a lot of fun to write.
