As you can probably tell from the title, this will be the first chapter of the more magic focused of the two one shots I made. Since this is a full story, I'll be adding many story points that wouldn't have fit into a one shot. That's about all I have to say before we start, hope you all enjoy.

Ten years B.D

"Duelist Kingdom, Battle City, that one time Kaiba Corp holograms apparently malfunctioned, and a seemingly random trip to Egypt? I refuse to believe that all of the strange things that went on in these events were coincidence." Izuku muttered in the dead of night as he did research. All of which revolved around three key people. Each one was special in their own way.

First and foremost there was Mutou Yugi, a seemingly normal teenager with a talent for games who, practically overnight, became somewhat famous by defeating the then Duel Monsters national champion Seto Kaiba followed by his victory in the Duelist Kindom tournament. A tournament that earned him the title of King of Games.

A tournament that had dozens of mysterious disappearances linked to it. A tournament that was held by Maxamillian Pegasus, the creator of Duel Monsters and the second key person in Izuku's puzzle. Specifically because of the suspicious circumstances behind the creation of his game. A random archeologist discovers an ancient Egyptian tomb and randomly creates a card game that quickly became one of the most popular games in Japan?

Never mind the fact that he came back from Egypt with a mysterious golden eyeball that he somehow lost during the events of Duelist Kingdom. Or that Mutou Yugi held a similar artifact which was confirmed to be a genuine ancient puzzle discovered by his grandfather Solomon. Or that the third person of interest on Izuku's list, Marik Ishtar, and his siblings had two more of these artifacts.

Millennium items, he learned that they were called. Ancient Egyptian artifacts dating back to the first millennium B.C. Any further description was vague at best, but it was said that these artifacts each had magical powers attached to them. A claim that once would have been ridiculous to many...Before the emergence of quirks that is.

Nowadays, the impossible was just an everyday occurrence.

So, Izuku did a bit more digging. Why you may ask? Simple, he was out sick with the flu for a week. His symptoms were mild at best but he was still stuck inside the whole time and had no real frends so he was understandably bored. Plus he already had a hobby of studying superpowers anyway so ancient shadow magic was the mental equivalent of a stone throw away.

Even closer really, after all, to a boy who yearned to be a hero, yet had no power of his own. Even a hint of a possibility of there being an alternative to quirks was enough to light a fire in his belly. A fire that wouldn't burn out until he had searched every nook and cranny of this seemingly ridiculous conspiracy.

"Those items aren't the only source of mystery. That story about the creation process and the tragedies involved with a the Egyptian God cards is even weirder." When those things were summoned, it got dangerous very quickly. Dangerous meaning several injuries, incidents of comas, and even deaths...Which came from a few pieces of cardboard, Izuku stressed.

"There has to be something deeper here. Even if you try to rationalize all of this nonsense, that still does nothing to explain away...Whatever the hell happened to Duel Academy." Izuku muttered mid-research, it happened a while ago but it hit international news when it happened.

A whole school campus with a comparable size to a small city simply disappeared one day. Completely and utterly, even the piping disappeared leaving nothing behind but a barren crater at the center of an island only for it to reappear a few short days later. Nowadays, people explained it away as an early manifestation of quirks but knowing what he did now, Izuku called shenanigans.

Well, he knew what he was buying to pass the time this weekend. It was time for him to learn how to play Duel Monsters.

The next day

"I don't know why you have the sudden interest in old card games but don't worry honey, I'll get you some. I know a nice game shop that I used to go to all the time as a kid. I'm sure they'll have a few of these, the owner is a collector of old popular games." Again, Inko wasn't sure why Izuku wanted them, but hey, its a new hobby. Maybe it would help give her son some semblance of happiness outside of his unlikely dream of becoming a hero.

Later that day Inko was good on her word and visited her old hunting ground from back when she was a teenager. Ah, those were good times, she wondered how old Mr. Yagi was doing these days...Oh. "Oh my, excuse me can you tell me what happened to Mr. Yagi? This used to be his game shop…" The man she asked looked familiar, her head filled in the gaps and a pit suddenly grew in her stomach.

"You must have been one of my dad's old patrons. I'm sorry but...He passed away very recently, we're just collecting his belongings before this building gets demolished. It's been in a relative state of disrepair since my father retired so...My apologies, my name is Yagi Toshinori, may I know yours?"

"Toshinori? Now I remember, he talked about having a son you must be him. My name is Midoriya Inko, nice to meet you, and you have my condolences." At the very least she knew that the older man's death was a natural one. He must have been pushing 90 by now.

Little did she know Toshinori was thinking the same thing but for very different reasons. "Thank you, I'm just happy that he left this world peacefully. For the longest time I was worried that such a thing would be impossible." Inko nodded in understanding. While she was growing up things were far more chaotic than they were today. And this man was likely older than her, he must have had it even worse.

It got so bad that it was dangerous just to walk the street on your own, the villains outnumbered heroes every time and many of those heroes were on the verge of giving up entirely...That was until All Might showed up, it could not be emphasized enough just how much he changed society as a whole. And Inko's generation was the one that could see it all happen first hand.

Crime rates plummeted to a footnote, nearing non-existence in All Might's first year cleaning up the streets. All Might was single handedly responsible for not only a heroic revolution, but also a scientific one that was heralded by his sidekick David Shield. To the point where it could be argued that the two men created today's hero society outright.

To many, All Might was peace personified, he was powerful, not just in comparison to the crime that he drove back, but even nature itself couldn't get past him. Since his debut, the number of natural disasters affecting Japan similarly plumetted to nearly nothing. A consequence of him having the strength to casually change the weather with a punch.

He was seemingly incorruptable, not once in his forty years of service has he been caught in anything even remotely illegal. Every time something similar came up, it was inevitably proven to be a false lead by a corrupt hero or public official. A depressingly common thing even today.

If it weren't for his public birth certificiate, his brief but public time in the school system, and his time at U.A. People would have no doubt confused the man for some kind of god. Hell, some people still did, much to the hero's discomfort which he made very clear.

They were wrong of course, All Might. The world's idol was no god. He was an impressive man, but a simple man nonetheless. Even he took days off, few and far between as they may be. Today was one of them, and those that knew why he did so would never begrudge him for it.

After all, you only get once chance to attend your last family member's funeral.

"Would you like to join me? I'm sure you came here to purchase something but considering the circumstances, most of the merchandise in the store is going to be thrown away anyway. Might as well find and take what you were looking for before that happens." Toshinori gave his surprisingly generous offer. Honestly, he just wanted someone to talk with so that he didn't get lost in his own mind.

"A-are you sure? I wouldn't want to intrude, I just wanted to pick up a few cards for an old game that my son suddenly had interest in...Duel Monsters, I believe he called them." Toshinori's eyes widen immediately. Duel Monsters? That was a name he had not heard for...A very long time. A very long time indeed.

"Y-yeah, don't worry about it. His shop actually had plenty of those, it was a bit of a family tradition to pick up the game but ever since the quirk era started production for them has been declining. Nowadays not that many people know about it and even fewer still play it." It was a slow, painful death for the game. But a century was a long time and it was a very chaotic century on top of that. Even something as popular as Duel Monsters couldn't thrive in such an environment.

"I see, it makes me wonder how little Izuku found out about it but I suppose that doesn't matter. As long as it makes him happy, he." A pause and a frown from Inko. "He doesn't have much else. Ah, I'm sorry, you probably don't want to hear about any of that!" She corrected herself, this poor man just lost his father, he probably didn't want to hear about such a relatively small issue.

"Nonsense. There are few things in life more important than the mental health and happiness of a child. And as his parent you are more than entitled to worry for your son, I'm happy to lend an ear if it can help." Toshinori saw it completely differently, if he could help someone in any way he could then why wouldn't he? He went for his keys to get back into the building along with Inko.

Tears started to leak from Inko's eyes and Toshinori stiffened a bit, hoping that he hadn't accidentally said something to upset her. To his relief, they were tears of gratitude rather than sadness. "T-thank you so much! You've been nothing but kind to me so far. W-well, I suppose that if you're willing to listen then I should start from the beginning. You see, my son is quirkless."

*Clink It would seem that Toshinori dropped his keys. This little boy's story might hit closer to home than he thought.

There, a revised first chapter for a new story. Now, to restate the timeline. The events of Yugioh and Gx happened in the 1990s and mid 2000s respectively, meaning that humanity in this world had a small bump to technology, specifically with holograms during this time.

The first appearance of quirks happened sometime during the 2030s while the main casts of Yugioh and Gx were in their 50s and 40s respectively. From there, synchros are created but don't leave nearly as much of a splash due to the subsequent four generations of quirks.

Inko is from the 4th generation, making Izuku part of the 5th generation after quirks appeared. Assuming that people have kids at the age of 20~ this is roughly a century from the beginning of quirks.

That means that the year that this story takes place is roughly in the 2130s. And in that time Duel Monsters has survived as a game but eventually lost the rabid fanbase that it used to have during the time of Seto Kaiba.

That's about all, I hope you all enjoyed the chapter.
