The dust has settled after The Motion Picture, but Kirk still doesn't know where he stands with Spock. A game of chess brings out some old memories and some new realizations about how much they need each other.

After his wife's death, he'd left her with his mother and realizes he's lost valuable time. The program is just getting off the ground so there are bound to be some space bumps along the way!

Turns out it wasn't Leila who had trouble getting over the spores' influence...rated T for her language. One shot.

What if, after the kal-if-fee, Spock still felt he deserved punishment for all the wrongs he had caused?
